* HairDecorations: Partly ties her hair into two short sidetails in place with an elaborate hairclip and ribbon ensemble. By the time of ''Cold Steel III'', she only ties the left side of her hair now perhaps as a way to signify her growth since the last game.

* HalfSiblingSyndrome: Downplayed somewhat. He and Mueller aren't estranged, though Kurt does feel somewhat inadequate compared to his older brother.

* TransformingMecha: [[spoiler:''Cold Steel III'' reveals that Valimar has the ability to do this. The first time happens when Rean goes berserk against the Nameless One, transforming Valimar into a more demonic version of itself where his horn splits into two, loses his wings in exchange for a smaller pair of boosters, and gains a back skirt tail. It again happens during the Rivalry where, upon absorbing Zector, he transforms into a form less spiky and similar to his first one, but far more silvery in color and it loses the tail. After absorbing El-Prado, who had absorbed Argreion prior, the boosters on his back are replaced by a pair of angelic looking wings.]]

* WeakButSkilled: Powerful as it is, Valimar is actually one of the weaker Divine Knights. It compensates for this through its users own natural skill, and with Rean, his ability to create special combat links with the members of Class VII who are considered secondary contractors thanks to having aided Rean during his trial and their general close bond with him. This allows them, and later New Class VII as well, to give aid to Rean and Valimar through a variety of special artes that can be used for both offense and support.

* BigBrotherMentor: The more he remembers about his past, the more he gives advice to Rean as a human like knowing what armament type he should be using and whether or not Rean can conquer the challenges that he and his class will face. It culminates to him telling Rean that he should [[BeYourself be himself]] when Rean starts comparing himself to Dreichels the Lionheart, the legendary emperor and Valimar's previous Awakener.
* ButNowIMustGo: [[spoiler:Due to the Great One disappearing, him and the five other knights all disappear together at the end of ''Cold Steel IV''.]]

* ChekhovsGun: Spirit Path in ''Cold Steel II'' is used extensively throughout Act 1 but is never used again because it requires an immense amount of mana and because the party has the Courageous. This is never brought up again until ''Cold Steel III'' [[spoiler:where Valimar and the Soldats have to pass through the barrier at Gral of Erebos, with Thomas and Roselia opening the way.]]

* CoolSword: Valimar's Zemurian Tachi. As part of the name should imply, it was forged from the strongest known metal in the series and made for use of a giant robot. [[spoiler:Unfortunately however it gets destroyed during the finale of ''Cold Steel III''. It does get repaired by ''Cold Steel IV'' though at that point, Valimar is using Millium as a sword. It does make an appearance however during a sidequest where Rean and Patrick team up to take down Alan and get rid of his curse.]]

* WreckedWeapon: Durable as it is, the Zemurian Tachi's blade ends up snapping in half during the battle against Aion Type-Alpha in ''Cold Steel III''. It's later repaired by Schmidt, but it's again destroyed during the battle against the Nameless One in the finale. It's replaced by the Sword of the End afterwards, but ]]

The Ashen Knight, one of the seven Divine Knights of old. At the end of the first game he was discovered hidden away within the deepest reaches of the 7th floor of the ruins beneath the Old Schoolhouse at Thors. After Rean completes a series of trials together with his classmates, Valimar ends up selecting him to become his Awakener with Rean's classmates becoming Secondary Contractors.

After obliging, the two then go on to have a rather intimate moment with each other which results in Valimar interrupting after sensing Rean and Alisa's increased heart rates, advising medical attention for both until both assure that they're quite alright much to his confusion.

* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: [[spoiler:When Rean loses control of his SuperpoweredEvilSide and undergoes a RoaringRampageOfRevenge after Millium dies and her soul forges a new sword for him, Valimar has Rean's dark aura and the color of his armor is slightly darker than normal. Also, the sword TurnsRed when it was originally blue.]]
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: In ''Cold Steel II'', Valimar reveals that he went to sleep for 250 years and 128 days. It's speculated that he's a lot older than that.

* {{Ojou}}: Basically this as Alisa's the heiress to the largest heavy industrial company on Zemuria. Sharon and a couple of employees have referred to her with the terms "milady" or "Lady Alisa". She's even richer than her actual noble classmates and schoolmates at Thors, which is part of the reason why Alisa was hesitant to reveal her identity.

* BathingBeauty: She gets a cutscene in ''Cold Steel III'' taking a shower, wrapped around in a bathing suit.

* YoungAndInCharge: 16 years old and already the head of the most powerful noble family among the Four Great Houses. She's also this to the Weissland Army in general, as it's through her planning and working together with Aurelia and Vita that the army came to fruition in the first place.

* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:One of her bonding events with Rean in ''Cold Steel IV'' has Rean forcibly pulling out one of her carbine that is loaded with live bullets. Rean notes that it's not for assassination since the gun's range isn't even that far. Musse then starts unloading her grief about the fact that she's pulling off her plan that requires millions of people to die.]]

* TheGunslinger: She uses an orbal carbine in battle.

* RedeemingReplacement: [[spoiler:Takes over the Cayenne family and the other Four Great Houses. But unlike her who uncle was an ineffectual and power-hungry UpperClassTwit who started a war to put himself in charge to establish noble superiority, her ancestor Orthros who was a [[BastardBastard total bastard]] and TheUsurper who started the War of the Lions , and her great uncle Marquis Ballad was a [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]] FatIdiot concerned only with his own status and luxuries, Musse arms the Weissland Army to put a stop to Osborne's ambitions and prevent a devastating war to help save the Empire, and is clearly torn up about the inevitable blooodshed and bodycount that shall ensue.]]
* ReflectingLaser: She fires a laser beam from her orbal carbine into a previously conjured ice flower in her first S-Craft. Said laser beam reflects off the inner surface of the flower until the flower shatters.

* SheIsTheKing: [[spoiler:Ends up leading the Four Great Houses in ''Cold Steel III''.]]

* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: Thanks to the game taking place primarily from Rean's point of view, players will rarely actually see members of Class VII hanging out with each other outside of story related scenes.
** This is especially apparent with Crow who, outside of Rean and to a lesser extent Elliot, never actually spends much time with anyone else in Class VII onscreen.

* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: With so many people in the group, it was probably inevitable that, outside of protagonist Rean, not everyone is going to get a chance to interact with every other member.
** Most noteworthy is how scarce it is to see girls interacting with boys not named Rean. Jusis and Millium have their dynamic, Machias had a one-sided rivalry with Emma over test scores, and that's about it.
** Even among the guys, moments between Elliot and Jusis, or Machias and Gaius, are almost non-existent, in contrast to all other combinations.
** A glaring example with Crow, who is rarely shown interacting with the other students besides Rean.

* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: New Class VII has a relatively small headcount, so its easier for them to avoid this amongst themselves. But when combined with the their predecessors, this trope becomes really prevalent, with few exceptions.
** Altina's dynamic with her sister Millium is the standout exception, being one of the most fleshed-out relationships in all of Class VII.
** Juna has some interactions with Alisa here and there.
** As students of the two most well-regarded sword styles in the empire, Kurt and Laura have some scenes together.
** Ash has met with Sara before, with the latter having tried to recruit him as a Bracer.
** Surprisingly, Musse had a few moments with Jusis, and the two notably being the only combination of New/Old Class VII with a unique dialogue for finishing a battle together in ''Cold Steel III''. [[spoiler:Most likely due them being heirs to the Four Great Houses.]]
** Moving to back to non-interactions, Kurt/Musse stands out among New Class VII as the combination that pretty much never shows up.

* MilitaryMaverick: More so than their predecessors. While the original Class VII had its share of bending the rules for their own needs, New Class VII is able to put them to shame as they repeatedly disobey orders from Rean to stay put during his missions for the Imperial Government as they insist on helping him out every time despite scoldings from their instructor and others. Rean outright says their antics during the first chapter alone would warrant a court-martial, and their at times less than irreverent attitude towards his authority definitely would be grounds for discipline in a more serious military setting.

* EarCleaning: In her Chapter 4 bonding event, she offers to clean Rean's ears as 1 of 2 potential rewards for winning their match in Vantage Masters, the other being her washing his back. Rean is not enthusiastic about either reward and looks very uncomfortable in both scenes.

* HumongousMecha: During the Knight/Soldat battles, she pilots a Kestrel Beta, as she claims that the extra mobility makes it the best to use for sniping.

* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler: Her ancestor Orthros started the War of the Lions to crown himself Emperor but was put away by Dreichels to bring peace the the Empire. Here, she's trying to put a stop to Dreichels' reincarnation(Osborne)who has become a dictator about from starting start a large scale war.]]

* LongLostRelative: [[spoiler:She's the long-thought dead niece of Duke Cayenne.]]

* {{Expy}}: He pretty much looks like a younger [[{{Franchise/Ys}} Chester Stoddart]] and fights with a similar sword. If he wasn't part of Class VII, the white uniform Nobles get would make the resemblance even closer.

* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: When moving into Class VII's dormitory, she brings an impressive collection of dolls with her, including [[SeriesMascot Poms]], [[VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki Michey and Michie]], [[{{Franchise/Ys}} Pikkards]] and [[VideoGame/NayutaNoKiseki Noi]]. The Zwei II penguin also makes a reappearance, although at a much smaller scale. Apparently, Lechter bought all of them for her.

* ShoutOut: Her last name is ''just'' off from [[{{Franchise/Ys}} Valestine Castle]].

* Expy: He's basically a younger and more temperamental [[VideoGame/ZeroNoKiseki Dudley]]. It goes even further in ''Cold Steel III'' where Machias has started using Orbal pistols in his S-Craft in addition to his shotgun and even works a similar job of being an investigator for a government based organization.

In March S.1205 the class is formally disbanded as most of its original members graduate from school in order to pursue their respective dreams and goals. In the year S.1206, with the opening of Thors Second Branch campus, a new Class VII is formed initially comprised of three students with original Class VII member Rean Schwarzer serving as their Instructor. They're later on joined by Ash Carbide and Musse Egret as well.

After graduating from Thors and somewhat coming to terms with both her mother and her place as a Reinford, she ends up helping to rebuild Reinford Group after the events of the civil war. By the time of ''Cold Steel III'', Alisa has risen to Senior Manager within the group.

After graduating and the seeing the extent of which her strength is lacking in comparison to her enemies, Laura returns to Legram with her father in order to resume her training under him. By the time of ''Cold Steel III'', she has become a master of the Arseid style and an instructor of it as well.

After graduating, Machias decides to enter a political academy. By the time of ''Cold Steel III'', he has graduated and has become an inspector of the imperial government's justice administration.

The second son of Duke Albarea of Bareahard, head of one of the Four Great Houses of Erebonia. As such, he has the highest social standing of all the first-years at Thors and knows it. A devotee of Erebonia's ancient traditions of knighthood, he uses sword in combat as a practitioner of court fencing and believes in the idea of Noblesse Oblige. He develops an intense rivalry with Machias on their first day at Thors, and it isn't until their field study in Bareahard that the two are finally able to find common ground with each other. Having a fondness for horses, he ends up joining the Riding Club during his time as a student.

Intrigued by this and after graduating, she ends up leaving with Sara to join the Bracer Guild in order to learn more of Zephyr's operations. By the time of ''Cold Steel III'', she has become a senior Bracer.

After graduating, she returns to her work with the Intelligence Division. Despite this, she's ready support Rean whenever he desires.

A girl from Crossbell who aspired to become a Crossbell Police Agent, yet was unable to after Crossbell was annexed by Erebonia in S. 1205. Instead, she enrolls at Thors Second Branch Campus in Leeves and becomes a member of Class VII after receiving an invitation from Claire, which she also uses as a chance to learn more about the country that invaded her homeland.

* BerserkButton: Mentioning Erebonia's annexation of Crossbell or badmouthing the city in general is this for her, but she gets especially vexed if anyone badmouths the SSS. She became annoyed in general throughout Chapter 2 due to the many changes the Empire brought to the city, but loses her temper fiirst and foremost when Kurt wonders out loud if Lloyd became a wanted man by resorting to terrorism to free Crossbell, Juna explodes and goes on a tirade of how great he was and how the rest of the SSS was in the right.
* BigSisterInstinct: During the flashback to when she and her family were under attack from a Calvard Gunship, Juna threw herself on top of her younger siblings preparing to take the blast hoping to atleast make sure they survived.

* TheCameo: In a recursive EarlyBirdCameo, the ''UsefulNotes/{{Playstation 4}}'' version of ''Ao'' has her showing up at the Crossbell Police Academy as a police trainee.

** She eventually does experience a severe breakdown, after the reality of [[spoiler: Crossbell's occupation fully hits her and the truth of the birdcage incident is revealed, causing her already shaky self-esteem to completely shatter. This results in her ending up in a depressive state where she's unable to perform her field training due to a refusal to get out of bed. Fortunately, she's able to put herself back together with the constant support of Kurt and Altina, who deeply empathize and cherish her, and Rean's recorded message which gives her the resolve to step up and be hero in Crossbell's time of need, in place of ''her'' heroes who can't.]]

The younger half-brother of Mueller Vander. Raised with a strong sense of duty, he initially hoped to become the future guardian of the Arnor family much like his relatives before him. That is until Chancellor Osbourne released the Vander Family from their duty. Disappointed, he withdrew his application to enter Thors Military Academy, but Mueller convinced him to sign up for Thors Second Branch Campus instead.

* ChickMagnet: The female students of the Second Branch School all consider Kurt to be quite attractive. He also has at least three girls who have no issues coming all the way from the capital to Leeves just to see him, much to his discomfort.

About a year and a half after the civil war's end, she is enrolled as a student of Class VII at Thors Second Branch Campus for the purpose of monitoring and assisting Rean.

* BreakoutCharacter: Goes from an antagonist in ''Cold Steel II'' as an agent of the Noble Alliance to one of the leading heroes of ''Cold Steel III'' as a member of the new Class VII at Thors Second Branch Campus.

* HumongousMecha: In ''Cold Steel III'', after trying the other 4 Panzer Soldats and not really developing a preference for any them, she ends up being the only student at Thors Second Branch School who can properly utilize the Goliath Noa, leading her to test it in a mock battle against her classmates. [[spoiler:She ended up getting in a trance-like state afterwards, and after Rean gets her back to normal, the Goliath isn't seen for the rest of the game. She gets it back in ''Cold Steel IV'', though unlike her classmates, she can only summon it for an attack]].

* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:The entire purpose of Altina's creation is to serve as Millium's replacement in the creation of the Sword of Demise. For the sake of this, she's enrolled at Thors Second Branch and made a student of Rean's in order to ensure that the other Ironbloods don't end up becoming too attached to her the way they did with Millium. This trope is then averted when [[BigSisterInstinct Millium]] herself decides to take her place on the chopping block instead.]]

* TokenMiniMoe: As of ''Cold Steel III'' she is this to the new Class VII and for the whole Thors Second Branch, being very small and about 14 when everyone else is at least 16.

A delinquent who grew up in the slums of Raquel, a city in Western Erebonia known as "Entertainment City" thanks to its various attractions and the like. He earned respectable reputation from the Imperial Army and Bracer Guild after forming a team to chase off brigands during the civil war. He then enrolled into Thors Second Branch Campus and was enrolled in Class VIII through the recommendation of someone who knows his past. He ends up transferring to Class VII in Chapter 3 of ''Cold Steel III''.
