* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: It takes him a while to realize just how strong he is compared to normal folk and monsters due to how much time he spent in isolation for the first few months of his new life just eating things in his cave and gaining new abilities with his Predator skill. When he actually gets out and sees a bunch of scared goblins, his attempt to greet them first goes wrong because he tried out his newly-regained ability to speak at MakeMeWannaShout levels that shake trees with gale force. It takes him a few seconds for him to realize ''he's'' the incredibly powerful monster they've sensed and is freaked out when he uses his AuraVision on himself and sees the vast net of energy he's been unknowingly putting out.

* BlobMonster: He's a sentient slime monster, with his body having no solid form and able to reshape at will. Though he later learns to take on human form. Veldora notes early on Rimuru's situation is unique, as slimes are mostly low-ranked monsters incapable of higher thought (a slime capable of rudimentary speech is apparently considered rare enough), and has little issue believing Rimuru's story about his reincarnation as a result.

** When Hakurou tells Razen his country pissed off the wrong person, he wasn't kidding ''at all''. Rimuru completely and utterly kills '''20,000''' Falmuth soldiers with Megiddo, a KillEmAll skill that slaughters the opposing army without resistance, all without any aggressive rage, and in fact his attack motion was very calm and precise. Then when he holds the king and his bishop dead-to-rights, the king foolishly strokes his ego in front of him, thinking Rimuru would bow to him. He was proven dead wrong when Rimuru's next attack cuts off his left arm, this time done with a calm voice and while not moving a muscle for the slash.

** A funny instance occurs when he fights [[PlayingWithFire Ifrit]] in a seemingly high-stakes climactic battle at the apex of the Shizu arc, assuming it to be a powerful and dangerous foe. Rimuru eventually gets caught in a powerful fire attack and screams in terror, fully expecting it to be the end of him... [[ForgotICouldFly just before realizing]] that he's not actually taking any damage due to his elemental resistances no-selling fire, making the fiery titan a ZeroEffortBoss.

** The anime handles how he becomes a True Demon Lord differently. In the manga, he was completely and utterly pissed as all hell when he sees the corpses of his fallen citizens, [[spoiler:including Shion]]. He struggled with the idea that he had to truly kill another human directly. The moment he used Megido, he gave up his heart as a human and embraced having to dirty his hands. In the anime, he only goes as far as TranquilFury, as we don't see his face, and he clearly hates having to kill so many humans to revive his friends.

* AwesomeButImpractical: The [[DeathFromAbove Meggido]] spell is an incredibly devastating attack that can single-handedly wipe out a whole army when cast and ignores most AntiMagic effects since the light beams are completely natural phenomenon, but Hinata is able to realize several critical weaknesses of it after mulling over it. First, because it involves focusing sunlight, it can only be used when the sun is present, meaning it's impossible to cast at night. [[spoiler:To get around this, Rimuru had to set up a network that would let him reflect sunlight ''from the other side of the planet'' if necessary]]. Second, anything that could sufficiently scatter the sunlight such as a massive amount of dust or fog drastically reduces its effectiveness. Third, while not affected by AntiMagic, a sufficiently powerful physical barrier could still block it just fine unless Rimuru focuses the beams [[spoiler:as he notes it would be an impractical attack to use on the Empire's tanks due to their armor.]]
