* {{Hypocrite}}: When she forcefully disconnects Asuna's VR helmet for being a few minutes late for dinner, accusing Asuna of "disrespecting the staff's efforts," Asuna is sorely tempted to remind her of several occasions where Kyouko was also late for dinner, threw out the meals, untasted and had the staff make them again for her own convenience. Asuna ultimately decides not to do so.

! Unital Ring '''SPOILERS'''
!! Players
!!! Bolan's Party
[[folder: General]]

A classmate group of Shino's players seeking food and shelter that Kirito and others encounter early in Unital Ring, who frequently bullies her.then end up coming into conflict with them.

* AnimalMotifs: Her appearance is described as giving off an impression of a predatory insect, and considering that she and her GirlPosse prey on Shino.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Was one when Shino first met her. Endou and her posse were quick to try and befriend Shino when they learned that she was a MinorLivingAlone, figuring that they could use it as some kind of closet for their stuff and do solicit activities without notice, but she was quick to show her true colors when Shino refused to help her get off the hook when she was caught, researching Shino's background and exposing her DarkAndTroubledPast to the whole school. She tries pulling this again whenever she tries extorting money from her, but Shino easily sees through her bullshit since she always asks for too much money for what she claims to need it for[[note]] her EstablishingCharacterMoment has her ask Shino for 10,000 yen, almost 100 US dollars, for train fare because they somehow used up all their money doing karaoke in the 20 minutes school ended, despite the fact that they have train passes and therefore don't need to pay for tickets[[/note]], which ends in her preying on Shino's gun phobia to take it.
* BlatantLies: She says that she and her two friends spent too long at karaoke (20 minutes after school let out), and are out of money for the train (they have passes), which is why they need 10,000 yen (roughly $100 USD) from Shino. Shino sees through it, but it doesn't do her much good.
* TheBully: Endou is one who primarily uses psychological warfare against a vulnerable target.
* BullyingTheDisabled: She takes advantage of Shino's PTSD and [[DoesntLikeGuns fear of guns]] to push her around and extort her for money. Eventually, Shino GrewASpine and turned the tables on her, leaving Endou stunned and scared out of her wits.
* DirtyCoward: She's unwilling to try anything when there's even a risk of being caught, and flees when Kyouji bluffs that he's leading a police officer over. When Shino [[spoiler: disarms her and then takes a shot at a can]], Endou panics and does a TwistedKneeCollapse.
* DisproportionateRetribution: When Shino, realizing that she's being taken advantage of, refuses to have Endou over any longer, Endou researches Shino's past trauma and uses it against her.
* GirlPosse: She's accompanied by two girls at almost all times.
* HateSink: She's shown to be a despicable character, which is driven home when she and her GirlPosse researched her past used it against her out of spite and later when she unsuccessfully threatens Shino with a gun yet again.
* {{Jerkass}}: She repeatedly throws her weight around Shino, and it's indicated that she has no problem taking advantage of her so-called "friends" and retaliating when they refuse to play along.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: She and her GirlPosse are arrested for breaking and entering after a neighbor files a noise complaint on Shino's home because of her antics, and Shino refuses to cover for her. However, after the GGO fiasco, the three return and threaten Shino with a gun, ''in Japan'' while Shino is under surveilance because of Red Eyes Xaxa's "parting message". However, karma does eventually catch up to her when Shino disarms her.
* ManipulativeBitch: She took advantage of Shino's friendship to use her apartment for her own ends and, after Shino lets her be taken by the police when she finds out, she constantly extorts money from her using her gun phobia.
* NoNameGiven: Her first name is never revealed, and her two sidekicks are never named.
* NotWithTheSafetyOnYouWont: She falls prey to this, enabling Shino to disarm her and show her where she went wrong before calmly handing the gun back to her.
* OhCrap: After Shino disarms her, she's frightened out of her wits.
* SmugSnake: While it's partially out of spite, one of the main reasons she targets Shino is because she knows she can use her gun phobia against her to get what she wants. So when Shino disarms of her brother's model gun and proves (well, acts like) she's gotten over it, Endou's scared out of her wits.
* TeensAreMonsters: There's no other way to describe someone who deliberately bullies a classmate using past trauma for nothing more than pure greed.
* TwistedKneeCollapse: All she can do is slump down on her knees in shock when Shino finally disarms her.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: She once "befriended" Shino so that she and her two friends could use Shino's apartment to host parties, not caring if they were imposing on Shino or causing trouble.

to:

* AnimalMotifs: Her appearance is described as giving off an impression of a predatory insect, AmbitionIsEvil: Based on the timer in the menu's and considering the words of the mysterious voice at the end of the grace period, they quickly concluded that she Unital Ring was some kind of competition with a prize waiting at the end for the winner. This leads to them trying to kill Kirito's party when they learn who he is, figuring out that taking out one of ALO's top players before he can get proper gear would give them a huge advantage. Kirito even speculates that they would have eventually betrayed each other if it meant being the last one standing and her GirlPosse prey on Shino.
achieving victory, assuming they really believed the mysterious voice from the end of the grace period.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Was one when Shino first met her. Endou They start off friendly enough, the worst they do being asking for food and her posse were quick to try and befriend Shino shelter in exchange for their map data, but they quickly reveal themselves as ruthlessly ambitious when they learned try to kill Kirito for an advantage at winning Unital Ring.
* DefiantToTheEnd: Even after the death of Bolan, the remaining members continue to fight to the last man. Though Kirito speculates
that she it was less out of VillainousValor, but more due to their belief in ''Unital Ring'' being a MinorLivingAlone, figuring Last Man Standing scenario, meaning that their leader dying wouldn't factor in much since they're [[ItsAllAboutMe technically only out for themselves.]]
* FromNobodyToNightmare: {{Downplayed}}. To quote Bolan, they were "nobodies" in ALO, but when Unital Ring began, they found themselves having a major advantage since their gear, unlike more powerful, legendary gear, ended up retaining their lightness while keeping their stats, which were more powerful than things such as the crude stone knives Kirito's group made, while leaving players with more powerful weapons that retained their high equip requirements at a disadvantage. This, along with paranoia and ambition, leads to them being the {{Starter Villain}}s of ''Unital Ring'' with their attempt to kill Kirito to secure an advantage down the line.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Not only is their attempt at betrayal foiled and they're all killed, but their gear that was dropped upon death is then smelted down to help in the log cabin repairs, meaning they more than likely won't be getting it back after Unital Ring ends.
* LightningBruiser: Due to being able to keep their starter gear after the transfer, they're this compared to the under-equipped Kirito, Asuna, Alice and Leafa. Fortunately enough, [[ShedArmorGainSpeed Kirito's complete lack of armour gives him enough of a edge in speed to avoid their attacks.]]
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: Upon learning of Kirito's status as a high-level player, they figure
that they should kill him before he gets his hands on more powerful gear, since he could use it as some kind of closet for give them competition down the line.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: Back in ALO, they were a relatively new party lacking in much renown. When ''Unital Ring'' began however,
their stuff and do solicit activities without notice, but she was quick to show her true colors when Shino refused to help her get off relatively low-level gear effectively became the hook when she was caught, researching Shino's background and exposing her DarkAndTroubledPast most powerful equipment around thanks to the whole school. She tries pulling this again whenever she tries extorting money from her, but Shino easily sees through her bullshit since she always asks for too much money for what she claims to need it for[[note]] her EstablishingCharacterMoment has her ask Shino for 10,000 yen, almost 100 US dollars, for train fare because they somehow used up all retaining their money doing karaoke in the 20 minutes school ended, despite the fact that they have train passes and therefore don't need stats while not being powerful enough to pay for tickets[[/note]], which ends in her preying on Shino's gun phobia to take it.

* ATragedyOfImpulsiveness: Recognizing Kirito
from the ALO Dueling tournament back in February[[note]] the same one he lost to Yuuki in[[/note]], he's quick to sneakily stab him in the gut and convince his party to kill him and his friends to increase their odds of winning Unital Ring. * BizarreTasteInFood: It turns out the grass Liz and Silica were using to make rope is something they eat. Liz and Silica compare the stew they made with it with ''shirodatsu'' / ''niimoji''[[note]] dried and boiled taro stalk [[/note]].
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: They speak in a strange language described to sound warped and distorted, as if subject to several layers of noise filtering. Yui is able to realize that it's multi-layered Japanese based on the Seed Nexus, and is [[TranslatorBuddy able to decipher it to communicate with them.]]
* {{Stripperific}}: Noted to not cover up much skin, to the point that Silica notes that even if the grace periods before she and Liz can get new gear and they're forced to go around in their underwear, they probably wouldn't stand out too much as a result.
* TrademarkFavouriteFood: Thornspike Cave Bear Meat is apparently is considered a delicacy among them.

* BarbarianLonghair: She has long red hair that goes down to her waist.
* BrawnHilda: A large and well-built woman.
* FantasticRacism: {{Implied}}. She's immediately opposed to Liz, Silica and Yui joining her tribe's scouting party due to them apparently not proving their worth, hinting a generally low opinion of the strength of "Fels" as they call them.
* FieryRedHead: Has a head of red BarbarianLonghair.
* MightMakesRight: She's initially opposed to Silica, Lisbeth and Yui joining their scouting party due to not being convinced that they'd be much help, prompting her to challenge Silica to cut a log she throws at her to prove her skill.
* {{Stripperific}}: Like the other men and women in her tribe, she wears very little. From what can be seen in an illustration, she wears only leather chest armor that [[BareYourMidriff Bares Her Midriff]], along with a gladiator-like skirt consisting only of leather straps that leaves a pair of red underwear exposed.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/endou.png]]

A classmate of Shino's who frequently bullies her.
----
* AnimalMotifs: Her appearance is described as giving off an impression of a predatory insect, and considering that she and her GirlPosse prey on Shino.

* TheAtoner: Her post Aincrad work is her way to make up for not stopping Kayaba when she had the chance.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler: She saves Higa from Yanai by dropping a wrench on him, causing him to stumble and [[DisneyVillainDeath fall to his death.]]]]
* BigSisterInstinct: [[spoiler: While the exact nature of their relationship is unknown as of yet, she does appear rather appalled when a reporter asks that she "opens Alice's head" to show everyone her brain, and seems ready to shout at him when Alice stops her and [[TranquilFury gives her own retort.]] She also expressed a good deal of her concern over all the social events she was attending, worrying that she was getting stressed and asking if she needed a break.]]
* BrainyBrunette: She has a B.S, M.S and a Ph.D, and is notable as the only first year to participate in the Shigemura Seminar at the college she and Kayaba attended.
* ChekhovsGunman: In the light novel, she's briefly mentioned, but not by name, when Kirito describes tracking her down while investigating Kayaba.
* CountryMouse: She’s stated to have originally lived in the mountains and she used to have an accent that apparently disappeared over time.
** It does pop up again when she gets really emotive, like over Kayaba Akihiko.
* DudeMagnet: She's seemingly the only other person [[{{Sociopath}} Kayaba]] cared about, [[AbhorrentAdmirer Sugou apparently tried courting her]] back in school, and [[spoiler:Higa also admits, albeit not to her, that he also had a crush on her and tries asking her out after she saves him from Yanai, only for [[ObliviousToLove her to]] [[ComicallyMissingThePoint miss the point]].]]
* EarlyBirdCameo: She's mentioned in the final episode of Season II, as the one who sent the original design for Yuuki's Medicuboid.
* EasilyForgiven: Asuna doesn't even bat an eye at Rinko's revelations or guilt, pointing out that both she and Kirito would forgive her anyway and that the best days of their lives together were in SAO to begin with.
* TheGenericGuy: How she views herself, describing herself as a “plain, boring girl from the mountains” when pondering as to why Kayaba took an interest in her.
* KnifeNut: She planned on killing Kayaba with a survival knife she brought to Nagano.
* MurderByInaction: What she could've been charged for had Kayaba not put in a dummy micro-bomb into her chest to make it seem like she was a victim too, given that she was directly tied to the Aincrad incident and [[CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot had the opportunity to stop Kayaba and his mad schemes right then and there.]] Rinko herself feels like she committed this as a result.
* ObliviousToLove: [[spoiler:She does not pick up on the fact that Higa was trying to ask her out after she saved him from Yanai, instead thinking he was asking for a celebratory meal and agreeing to buy him a burger or ramen sometime.]]
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Rinko was Kayaba's girlfriend and fellow researcher, which is a big role to have - especially when she could've prevented the entire franchise's story from kicking off to begin with. She's also the one that helped design the Medicuboid, meaning Yuuki's entire prolonged living state and thus her storyline was able to happen because of Rinko. However, despite getting Asuna to the Ocean Turtle, and helping try to get to the bottom of the JSDF's artificial intelligence research, ultimately Rinko herself is mostly a bit character to fill in the world a little more and irrelevant beyond that. [[spoiler:That said, her saving Higa from Yanai ends up indirectly saving Kirito and by extension everyone else in Underworld]].
* TheseHandsHaveKilled: She feels indirectly responsible for the many deaths in the SAO incident, as she couldn't bring herself to kill Kayaba while he was inside the game.
* UndyingLoyalty: Arguably to Kayaba. It what's prevents her from killing him when she finally tracked him down and the reason why she hasn't confessed that the bomb Kayaba implanted in her was a RedHerring to [[KarmaHoudini get her off the hook]] in spite of her guilt is because doing so would have defeated the purpose of "the only gift he ever gave her".
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: By being unable to kill Kayaba right after he logged into Sword Art Online, Kayaba was able to trap ten thousand people in his death game for two years, with almost half of that number dying. Whether this would've hopelessly trapped everyone in SAO or resolved the death game before it even began is never answered, but Rinko firmly believes all of that blood is on her hands.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: [[spoiler: When unveiling Alice to the world, she makes it a point that she, as the current CEO of RATH, has no desire to use them as tools and servants, believing that they are no different from humans and that enslaving them would make them no better than [[HistoryRepeats those who have enslaved other humans in the past.]]]]

** [[spoiler: Acknowledges this in regards to the crowd's disbelief over the ''Underworld'', stating that it sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. That being said, he does believe it since he doubts Kirito would associate with people who would lie about something like that.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Becomes this post-HeelFaceTurn. He's very emotionally withdrawn, acts rude, and states that he has no intention of apologizing. However, the reason he won't apologize is because he feels it won't do much good anyway, and [[spoiler: Liz can tell from the subtext of his words that he came to the Underworld because he wants to help and make up for his actions.]]

* NeverMyFault: Believed this was his attitude pre-HeelFaceTurn, saying that he was blaming other things like SAO, Kirito, and Fuurinkazan instead of acknowledging his own weakness and fault in Yuna's death.

* PurpleIsPowerful: His OS outfit is purple, and he's the second highest ranked player in the game. [[spoiler:He later uses an ALO avatar with similar colors]].

* ReluctantWarrior: [[spoiler: He's initially reluctant to join the ''War of Underworld'' out of lingering resentment and guilt. Yuna however talks him into taking part.]]

* TheResenter: He resents the Frontlines because, when Yuna was making a HeroicSacrifice by [[DrawAggro drawing the Ruthless Warder Chief minion's away]], he begged two members of Fuurinkazan to help her only for them to refuse since they were preoccupied with the boss, leading to her death. This resentment gets worse when SAO ends and a book is released telling people of the frontline's exploits while making no mention of the other players in there, including [[TheLostLenore Yuna.]]
** [[spoiler: "What I Can Do Now" hints that this resentment hasn't completely subsided after his HeelFaceTurn, getting angry when he sees Klein dueling Eugene to save Kirito, which he angrily claims he (or more accurately, his guild) didn't do for Yuna. It does however subside by the time the duel ends, claiming he feels glad that he won.]]

* ScarfOfAsskicking: Dons one in ALO.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Tsundere}}: [[spoiler: He at first doesn't want to admit that he came to Liz's speech to see if he could help, claiming to Yuna that he thought it'd be some interesting news, even claiming to be glad that Kirito is suffering. Yuna sees through this, asking why he looks so sad if he's finding the situation "fun". After joining the war and bumping into Liz and Silica, he also beats around the bush about how he wants to make up for what he did, which frustrates Liz to no end.]]

Added DiffLines:

* YoungerThanTheyLook: Back in SAO he gave off a rather youthful impression, even appearing younger than Kirito and Asuna in the ''Hopeful Chant'' Manga. Despite this, he's a full two years older than Asuna, who herself is a year older than Kirito.

* IdenticalStranger: While there are slight differences, as a whole she has a strong physical resemblance to Alice. This is likely the reason why [[YouRemindMeOfX Gabriel becomes so obsessed with the Alice]], seeing her as a replacement for Alicia. This resentment has some basis not just because of the aforementioned example, but also since a branch of the American government hired [[PrivateMilitaryContractors Glowgen Defense Systems]] to outright steal Rath's research for themselves and, should they prove unable to, ''[[KillEmAll blow up the Ocean Turtle and everyone in it]]''.]]

* NonActionGuy: Unlike most of the others at the Ocean Turtle, Higa is not a trained combatant, meaning both times he leaves the safety of the Sub-Control room, he either does is stealthily or is accompanied by [[BadassBureaucrat Kikuoka]].

* ChivalrousPervert: There's heavy hints that she's a MrsRobinson, with her getting touchy feely with Kazuto under the excuse of checking his physical health and displaying open disappointment when he opts out of stripping completely for his Full-Dive. However, she also displays clear concern for Kazuto's physical condition, lightly berating him for agreeing to search for Death Gun, and comforts him when he confides in her about his guilt over the Laughing Coffin members he killed.

* RememberTheNewGuy: When she debuts, Kazuto evidently already knew her quite well even though this is the first time the viewers have seen her.

Added DiffLines:

* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: When she meets Kirito again in ''Phantom Bullet'', she wastes no time in grabbing his ass and feeling his arms to see if he's been re-building his muscles.

Added DiffLines:

Added DiffLines:

* ManipulativeBitch: She took advantage of Shino's friendship to use her apartment for her own ends and, after Shino lets her be taken by the police when she finds out, she constantly extorts money from her using her gun phobia.

Added DiffLines:

* SmugSnake: While it's partially out of spite, one of the main reasons she targets Shino is because she knows she can use her gun phobia against her to get what she wants. So when Shino disarms of her brother's model gun and proves (well, acts like) she's gotten over it, Endou's scared out of her wits.
