Feared by his enemies, reviled by his father, adored by the Goddess of Beauty, and worshipped by warriors, Ares, a tortured and lonely soul, is the bloodthirsty Greek God of War.

Ares is not loved by the people. He represents everything they fear and despise: war, strife, chaos, and murder. It’s said that the sky darkens when Ares takes the field. That he rides to battle on a chariot drawn by fire-breathing steeds and delights only in the clash of battle and smell of bloodshed.

Ares is not loved by his father. Zeus has many sons, but only two with his wife Hera. However, the thunder God has long suspected Hera of having an affair that led to the birth of Ares, perhaps as revenge for all of Zeus’ infidelity. For this, Zeus is disgusted by him.

Ares is not loved by his sister. Athena and Ares are both Gods of War. Where Ares represents violence, force, and slaughter, Athena is the embodiment of intelligence, strategy, and leadership. Ares is quick to act and leave a bloody trail. Athena is thoughtful and careful with lives. Often they have been on the opposite sides, most notably at the Battle of Troy, where Athena viciously wounded him and forced Ares to retreat.

Ares is the lover of the Goddess of Beauty. Though Aphrodite is married to Ares’ brother, Hephaestus, Ares takes what he wants, and Aphrodite gives in willingly. Their union created offspring almost as terrible as Ares himself: Phobos and Deimos, Fear and Terror.

Ares is loved only by the Spartans, who revere the God for his masculinity, his merciless warrior spirit, and tenacity against all odds. The Spartans, however, know the unpredictable fury of their patron, and bind his statues in chains. This is, in part, to prevent Ares’ spirit of victory from escaping Sparta, and a vain effort to keep the God of War contained.

Ares is a Guardian-type God. His passive, ''Blessed Presence'', grants him bonus magical power for each item with an Aura effect he has. With his first ability, ''Shackles'', Ares launches a chain from his shield that will shackle onto the first enemy God it contacts with, damaging and slowing them while speeding up Ares. If the first chain hits a target, Ares can launch up to two additional chains at no cost. His second ability, ''Bolster Defenses'', buffs Ares and all nearby allies for a few seconds, increasing their physical and magical protections and reducing the duration of crowd control effects on them. With his third ability, ''Searing Flesh'', flames start pouring out of Ares' shield for a few seconds, damaging all enemies in front of him for a percentage of their maximum health. With his ultimate ability, ''No Escape'', Ares launches chains at all surrounding enemy Gods. After a brief delay Ares will pull all chained enemies to his current location, damaging and stunning them depending on how many Gods were pulled.

His Roman name is Mars.

----
* AchillesHeel: Ares has the longest cripple in the game combined with extremely high base damage with his ''Shackles'' ability, meaning he is quite dangerous for anyone to fight early game and has the potential to set up strong ganks. However, he is pretty much barred from use in the solo lane or jungle on account of having quite possibly the worst wave clear in the entire game.
* ArtEvolution: A beneficiary, with his model being cleaned up a bit at one point.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Ares is the definition of this trope. His kit is a bruiser's - lots of damage but little CC, which is the exact opposite of what you need as a tank.
** He has very powerful CC on his ultimate, the problem is that it's too telegraphed and gives opponents too much time to react and counter it.
* BadassBeard: Ares has a goatee.
* BadassInCharge: Or he likes to assert himself as, giving commands when using his Bolster Defense.
-->''Allies! Follow my lead!''
-->''HoldTheLine!''
* ChainedByFashion: His armor is covered in lots of chains that he uses for his attacks.
* ChainPain: Though not very improvised. One of Ares' abilities involves chains coming out of his shield, while his ultimate has him fling chains outward to enemies within range and then reels them all after a short duration.
* CrutchCharacter: Probably the best example of this among the guardians. He hurts ''a lot'' early game and his ultimate is more likely to work early game as well, as it's more likely that people haven't bought the purification active yet. However, his damage starts to fall off after level 9 as he cannot rank up ''Shackles'' any further; combined with the ease of countering his ult and his lack of hard CC, this causes him to be much less effective mid and late game (this is a major reason that he isn't picked in competitive play).
* DeathOfAThousandCuts: His ability to dish out a lot of damage by himself is what sets Ares apart from other tanks, and this is how he does it. He can fire up to three chains, which can stack on the same target, each one ticking for damage 4 times, and then follow up with his Searing Flesh ability, which ticks for damage 8 times with [[UpToEleven each tick dealing two separate instances of damage!]] All told, his full combo of 3 Shackles + Searing Flesh deals ''twenty-eight'' separate instances of damage in about 5 seconds. For extra lolz, pick up Mystical Mail, which will tick for damage 5 or 6 times during that combo while also proc'ing Ares's passive.
* {{Expy}}: ''No Escape'' is basically a delayed [[{{Dota2}} Reverse Polarity]].
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: But thankfully Denton the Cyclops will as he tries to hold back Ares from attacking the screen during his losing animation.
* {{Irony}}: Ares, definition of RatedMForManly. But his damage type is Magical, so he cannot buy items that showcases his physical prowess, but more like building a mage.
** [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall Referenced]] by a specific line the G.E.B. 1 skin has for killing him:
--> "ERROR 201: You do magical damage with a sword."
** Even more irony abound when Bellona, his DistaffCounterpart (and the Roman counterpart of his ''consort'' Enyo), turns out to be a Warrior and buys physical items.
* LethalJokeCharacter: If played in the jungle despite his bad wave clear mentioned above, he can invoke this, as people will almost certainly not expect him to be in this role and subsequently won't buy purification beads at level 1 to counter his ultimate, leading to an easy gank for him at level 5. However, it's also quite likely to just be a straight up JokeCharacter and get you flamed by your team.
** Just thinking that only his ultimate counts can spell doom to those underestimating him, however, because Ares' ''Shackles'', when aimed properly, will prevent any movement skills, so his victims can just try to run in vain while their gap-closers cannot be used to escape, and then Ares can just burn that victim while his friend help beat down the shackled victim (even better if the victim is squishy). Sure, a bead can set them free, but that means it'll make them vulnerable to his ultimate, unless they have other means of anti-crowd control.
* MightyGlacier: As a guardian, he belongs to the game's most defensively oriented class, which goes along with his heavily armored appearance, prominent shield, and "Bolster Defenses" ability. He also has notoriously high damage output for a tank character with his Shackles ability. However, he has no inherent mobility in his kit whatsoever.
** LightningBruiser: ... but once he lands a Shackle on you, you won't escape him.
* PaperTiger: Played with on one of an unused joke. He'd boast that he'll never be beaten by a girl, but backpedals a bit to make sure a certain girl (Athena) isn't around to hear it.
-->''"Me, defeated by a girl?! That's just a horrible rumor! ... Uh, she is not here, is she?"''
* PercentDamageAttack: The only god to have one as a normal ability, with ''Searing Flesh''.
* PlayingWithFire: His main source of damage from his abilities has flames burst out of his shield in a cone in front of him.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: If you hear him saying "I have you now!" and there's a chain around you, you better prepare your CC-immune options in the right time, because if not, Ares will 100% drag you stunned to him and prepare a big ass-kicking, by him or his allies.
* RatedMForManly: His intimidating-looking armour, sword and shield combined with his chain and flame-filled gameplay are some pretty blatant RuleOfCool. And for a Guardian type God, Ares' skill set is designed to jump to the enemy frays and wreak havoc as much as he can, with only his Ultimate as his means of crowd control. Fitting, as this trope was the reason why Spartans worship and love him (while others hate him).
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Despite having white eyes in his splash art (as pictured above), his in-game model has glowing red eyes instead.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Athena's blue.
* VariableLengthChain: These chains can reach pretty damn far, especially for his ultimate.
* SerratedBladeOfPain: To go along with how he represents the cruelty and brutality of war.
* ShouldersOfDoom: Wears a very large shoulder pad on his left arm.
* SwordPointing: In his laugh emote.
* TheUnfavorite: Just like the original source, everybody hates Ares. In fact, when Zeus gets his visual update, the only child he got a special taunt for is ''just Ares''.
* WarGod: One of the more disliked.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: With the 'you' being every enemy god in range.

In war, there are two kinds of soldiers: those that fight for blood, and those that fight for honor. The first crave the clash of steel and smell of slaughter, the latter know the wisdom of justice, the kindness of mercy, and that life should never be taken wantonly. These different warriors seek different Gods. Ares, God of War revels in the bloodletting, but his sister, Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, is patron to those who fight with dignity, and only when there is no other alternative.

Favored daughter of Zeus, wise as ten thousand scholars, just as the scales themselves; Athena is a paragon of incorruptible virtue, and worshipped with righteous fervor. So revered is she that Athens, greatest city in all the world, is named for her, and regal temples adorn the countryside in her honor, each tended by loyal priestesses. To Athena, a life is a precious thing that need not be wasted in frivolous battle. Bloodthirsty Ares, on the other hand, is reviled by their father and chained by his ravenous subjects.

At the Siege of Troy, Ares disobeyed Zeus and joined with the battle, fighting for the mortal Trojans. Athena rose to stop him, indirectly championing the Greeks, but directly keeping the order of divine law. Their fierce battle clashed in unspeakable proportions, ending only when Ares limped from the battle field, cowed by his sister and rival. With Ares diminished, the tide of the war shifted and the heroes of the Greek Army toppled Troy.

In times of war, prayers are sent to both Gods. Ares, for bloodstained victory, Athena for honor, valor, and the wisdom to fight with dignity. Make no mistake, these are times of war, and Ares has already answered the call to arms. Athena, ever cautious with lives, goes to battle without eagerness, but solemn necessity, for the Goddess of Wisdom knows honor is for the living. The dead have no need of it.

Athena is a Guardian-type Goddess. Her passive, ''Reach'', enhances her next basic attack after using any ability, transforming it into a ranged spear throw that damages all opponents it passes through. With her first ability, ''Preemptive Strike'', Athena charges up and then dashes forward, stopping upon colliding with an enemy God, damaging and slowing them. She also gains one stack of Block, negating the next basic attack from an enemy God. Her second ability, ''Confound'', emits a wave of light from her shield, forcing all opponents in a cone in front of Athena to approach and attack her for a brief duration. Her third ability, ''Shield Wall'', summons a host of spectral warriors around Athena that damage all opponents around her on arrival and, after a brief delay, strike again and dissapear, damaging all nearby enemies again. With her ultimate ability, ''Defender of Olympus'', Athena selects an allied God anywhere of the map and, after a few seconds, launches herself into the air and lands next to them, damaging all surrounding foes. Additionally, while she's preparing to jump, all damage dealt to the allied God is reduced by a percentage.

Her Roman name is Minerva.

----
* BigDamnHeroes: Her ultimate Defender of Olympus has her teleport to an ally after 4.2 seconds while making them take 25% less damage duration that 4.2 seconds, and do magic damage around them upon arrival which can allow her to pull off some critical entries into a fight.
--> ''Reinforcements on the way!''
* BreakingTheFourthWall: She seems to be aware of having a Russian accent and will insist that it's Greek... but when given the Red Star Athena, she has a quote that she now gets the 'joke' and remarks about 'smart move' of Hi-Rez.
* CombatStilettos:
--> ''It is not easy fighting in these high-heels. Oh, but it is ''so'' worth it!''
** [[http://phsueh.deviantart.com/art/SMITE-Athena-s-High-Heels-403189838 Some suspect another reason]].
* {{Combos}}: Her Shield Wall ability hits twice, but has a significant 2-second delay on the second hit which does the majority of the ability's damage, which renders hitting enemy gods that are unhampered and paying attention largely impossible. Thus, Athena depends on using her Confound ability to pull enemy gods toward Shield Wall's area to damage them with the second hit.
* TheCavalry: Don't die in 4.2 seconds (the 25% damage reduction will help you a bit with that), and then Defender of Olympus will let Athena pop in to save your day.
* DrillSergeantNasty: While not as nasty as the trope usually is, she does smack Denton and some creeps around in her losing animation.
* DynamicEntry: Athena's ultimate Defender of Olympus is cast on an ally, which can have Athena enter in from the other side of the map unexpectedly. Even more so if an ally manages to stay nearby you for when she enters in as the damage of the ability is decently significant.
* {{Foil}}: Ares is directly compared to her in her background as another Greek WarGod who goes about his position rather differently... their ultimates are also downright opposites - Athena uses her's to directly go to the aid of a single ally while Ares uses his to pull potentially multiple enemies to himself.
* GeniusBruiser: Goddess of wisdom and actually ''stronger'' than her brother Ares if their respective health pools are anything to go by.
* GeniusDitz: She's a goddess of wisdom, but you probably wouldn't guess it from her outlandish accent, enthusiastic voicelines, and lack of proper grammar.
--> "You is rockstar!"
--> "I am greatest!"
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Her heroic MartialPacifist approach to war is reflected in her blonde hair. Her {{Foil}} Ares has brown hair. Also unmentioned in her background (but quite likely researched and known by the developers regardless) is that she was [[VirginPower a virgin goddess]].
** She is also confirmed to be one of the Gods that wanted to protect humanity from the Gods that wanted to subjugate them, as confirmed in the Smite comics. Definitely good.
* [[HoistByHisOwnPetard Hoist By Her Own Petard]]: Two famous people from ClassicalMythology that she has cursed have now taken a stand against her: Arachne and Medusa.
* IShallTauntYou: Her ability Confound does this, releasing "a shockwave of power from her shield, taunting enemy gods, and forcing them to fight or chase her."
--> ''Over here!''
--> ''Face me!''
* LightIsGood: Athena does not directly LightEmUp, but she is portrayed very sympathetically and her abilities use a golden-light colour regardless.
** There were [[LightIsNotGood some chinks]] in her apparent goodness, though: First is what happened to Arachne. The second? Her victory animation is actually having her act downright abusive to Denton. But aside of that she's mostly good.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: From enemy basic attacks.
* MyEyesAreUpHere: As one of her jokes:
--> "I like to imagine my enemy's fear looking me in the eye, but we both know where they truly gaze."
** Which is a bit odd given that she's one of the few goddesses to not show any cleavage.
** Maybe it's one of her [[ShesGotLegs exposed leg]].
* NoSell: The passive bonus granted by her first ability, Block, allows her to do this with enemy basic attacks. When she has stacks of Block available, enemy basic attacks will neither do damage nor apply any on-hit effects to her. The word "absorb" even pops up in text over her head.
* NotTheIntendedUse: As with Ymir, Athena's high base damage and powerful CC has led to her being played as a jungler in addition to her traditional role as a support.
* PracticalTaunt: Her Confound ability taunts enemy gods, forcing them to use basic attacks against her and only basic attacks for the duration of it. Some exploit this by buying items which punish gods for hitting her with basic attacks, such as Hide of the Nemean Lion and Midgardian Mail.
* JavelinThrower: A slight example - her passive, Reach, causes her to throw a spear as a ranged attack that passes through all targets, which deals slightly more damage than a normal basic attack.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Ares's red.
* RuleOfFunny: The only possible explanation for her accent.
* TheSmartGuy: She's a Goddess of ''Wisdom'', and scrolls hang on the left side of her belt to reflect that visually. But her lines suggest otherwise, and portrait her as TheDitz. Maybe a GeniusDitz.
* SpinAttack: Every third hit in her basic attack chain.
* UnexplainedAccent: So far, she is the only one of the Greek or Roman gods who speak with an accent. And it's ''russian.''
** Used as an in-joke for the latest skin, Red Star Athena.
* WarGod: More specifically of just war and [[TheStrategist strategy]].

[[caption-width-right:250:[[http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/smite.gamepedia.com/b/b0/Hades_Intro_01.ogg "Sound the death knells. I arise!"]]]]

Inevitably, death sends everyone to Hades, God of the Underworld. In the end, he always gets his way.

Eldest son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea, Hades was swallowed by his father as an infant along with five other siblings. Zeus, the youngest brother, escaped this fate and freed them once he’d grown strong enough to battle Cronus. Together, the six siblings defeated the Titans and banished them to the dark realm of Tartarus. Now the reigning Gods, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades drew lots for dominion. Hades drew the Underworld.

Of the few that have entered the Underworld and come back, all speak dismally of the place, never wishing to return. Yet Hades, himself, rarely leaves the subterranean realm, constantly seeking ways to grow the numbers of the dead.

When he desired a wife, Hades captured the radiant Persephone, daughter of the Goddess Demeter. Concealed in the Underworld, none could reach her, so Demeter cursed the land with a great famine. The other Gods pleaded with her to end it lest she destroy mankind, but she would not relent until her daughter was returned. Hades finally let Persephone leave, though not before feeding her pomegranate seeds. Having consumed the fruit, she was bound forever to Hades and required to return to her husband once per year to eat of the seeds again. This, it is said, is a time of mourning and the cause of winter.

[[EverybodyHatesHades While many fear death and view it as evil]], in truth, Hades endeavors only to keep balance. He is stern but fair. As God of the Dead and the Underworld, he views his authority on this matter absolute, forbidding anyone to leave his realm and growing wrathful when disobeyed or when someone tries to cheat death or steal from him.

For everyone, death is unavoidable and service to Hades inevitable. Even the Gods.

Hades is a [[StoneWall Guardian]]-type God, however he has a ranged attack and is often played closer to a Mage. His passive, ''Blight'', applies a debuff to any enemy struck by his basic attacks or his first two abilities, adding extra effects to his powers. Using his first ability, ''Death From Below'', Hades submerges below the ground and emerges in the target area, dealing damage and applying Blight to all enemies caught by the blast. Enemies already affected by Blight are additionally slowed. His second ability, ''Shroud of Darkness'', projects a wave of energy in a short but wide cone in front of him, silencing and applying Blight all affected enemies. Enemies already affected by Blight are feared, forced to run directly away from Hades. His third ability, ''Devour Souls'', deals damage to all nearby enemies. Additionally, every struck enemy that had been affected by Blight explodes, consuming the debuff and dealing damage to nearby enemies, as well as healing Hades' allies. His ultimate ability, ''Pillar of Agony'', is a stationary channel that increases Hades' protections as he deals damage over time and drags closer all enemies caught in the area of effect. Enemies affected by Blight additionally have their protections reduced.

His Roman name is Pluto.

----

* BoringButPractical: Hades's laning phase consists of little more than dashing into the middle of the creeps and following up with his 3, then waiting for the next wave to do it over again. However, this combo clears the enemy creep wave instantly while healing Hades for a huge amount, and also making it very dangerous for the enemy god to come near while he does it. Early game, he's very hard to trade with or force out of lane.
* CastingAShadow: Specifically, his attacks spread plague and terror.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Though it [[GoodIsNotNice sure isn't nice]]. And it's scary.
** The comics has a double-subversion. Turns out Hades is amongst the Gods that wanted humanity to be subjugated so it would seem that they play him as a villain. However, he acted out of order instead of malice.
* TheDreaded: Everyone's afraid of Hades, and one of his attacks used on a Blighted foe will send them running in a panic for a short while.
* FogFeet: Which he uses in his ultimate to swirl soul around and draw people in.
* NoSenseOfHumor: What's that? You were expecting him to be like [[Disney/{{Hercules}} James Woods]]? Let his "joke"-command tell you what you're up for when playing as him:
--> "Hades does NOT make jokes!"
* NotTheIntendedUse: Despite being classified as a guardian, Hades has a ranged basic attack like a mage (and he's the only guardian with this trait), and tends to be played in the mid or solo lanes with damage items, also more like a mage (as opposed to other guardians, who usually play a support role in the duo lane). Whether or not Hi-Rez designed him with this in mind isn't clear.
* ShoutOut: His dance emote references [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxBO6KX9qTA this video]].
* SkeletonsInTheCoatCloset: His robe is made partly of bones.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: The main purpose of his ultimate. It tends to be a case of [[AwesomeButImpractical awesome but impractical]] since any dash or leap ability can be used to escape from it scot-free, but if you get caught in it without an escape, you're probably dead (if not from the damage of the ultimate, then from his teammates following up with free skillshots while you're held in place for 4 seconds).

[[folder:Aphrodite, Goddess of Beauty]]

[[caption-width-right:250:[[http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/smite.gamepedia.com/b/bc/Aphrodite_Intro_1e.ogg "Now, to find a soulmate!"]]]]

-> '''Voiced by:''' Martha Harms

There are too few words to describe the radiance, the magnificence, the inequitable glory of Aphrodite, Goddess of Beauty. So wondrous is she to behold that one look can inspire tears, desire, jealousy, and love. Yet, beneath her flawless exterior resides a heart burdened with insecurity.

Inattentive and hideous to look upon, her husband, Hephaestus, unknowingly leaves Aphrodite feeling lonely and worthless. She finds consolation in the arms of other men such as Ares, or validation by competing in any contest of beauty she encounters.

At a wedding attended by all the Gods, a golden apple appeared, inscribed with the words "to the fairest." Immediately Aphrodite, her mother Hera, and sister Athena quarreled over it. Zeus elected Paris, Prince of Troy, to choose a victor. In exchange for being named the fairest, Aphrodite offered any woman in the world as his wife, so Paris agreed. However, he chose Helen as his wife, and their love began the catastrophic Trojan War.

Now, a new war brews, but this one between Gods, not men. While the battlefield is no place for the fairest of all, Aphrodite recalls the destruction between the Greeks and Trojans. Perhaps, this time, her beauty can be used to stop a war instead of start one. Perhaps, this time, she will discover the beauty within.

Aphrodite is a Mage-type Goddess, capable of supporting an ally god with strong heals, buffs, crowd control and her own not inconsiderable damage. Her passive, ''Loving Embrace'', restores a percentage of all mana Aphrodite gains to her Soul Mate. With her first ability, ''Kiss'', Aphrodite blows a kiss forward in a line. If it hits an allied God they will be marked a her Soul Mate, forming a link between the two that will grant them both bonus movement speed, but will break if they stray too far away from each other, and she can only have one Soul Mate at the same time. If it hits an enemy God they will be briefly stunned and Aphrodite's Soul Mate will get jealous, temporarily increasing all damage they deal. Her second ability, ''Back Off!'', emits a blast of energy from Aphrodite, damaging and knocking back all surrounding enemies. If she has a Soul Mate, a second explosion will emit from them, damaging and slowing all surrounding foes. With her third ability, ''Love Birds'', Aphrodite will call forth a flock of doves that will fly forward in a line, damaging all enemies in their path over time for a few seconds. Aphrodite and her Soul Mate are also authomatically healed over time for the same duration. Her ultimate ability, ''Undying Love'', cleanses Aphrodite and her Soul Mate of all crowd control effects and renders them immune to all damage for a brief duration.

Her Roman name is Venus.

----
* AbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder: Funnily enough, this trope is done by the soulmate bond between Aphrodite and an ally breaking just from moving a decent amount of distance away from each other!
* AdaptationalHeroism, LighterAndSofter: The original Aphrodite is pretty much similar to most Olympian Gods, and a shameless slut and could be horrific if she wanted to, like antagonizing her son Eros and Psyche. In her Smite rendition, while she would act like how she was in the original myth, the lore gave implications that she's a BrokenBird trying to cope with her lack of self-worth with all her ProudBeauty acts and cheating, and was actually horrified with the result of the Trojan War that was caused because she won 'The Fairest' apple from Hera and Athena (in the original, she's just satisfied with winning the title and couldn't care less about the war), and her reason to join the Battlefield of the Gods was to make amends. While Cupid's lore mentioned about the antagonism of Venus towards him, the game seems to treat Aphrodite and Venus as different beings, so Aphrodite seems to be more neutral at worst on Cupid. Basically, thanks to some liberties, Aphrodite can look somehow sympathetic.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Why else do you think she hangs out with Ares? Though subverted that only Aphrodite gave a damn about him, [[TheUnfavorite the rest of the ladies thinks he's horrifying]]. And even then, she's not above taunting him if she ever scores a kill on him.
-->''The only thing endowed is [[{{BFS}} your]] [[DoubleEntendre sword!]]''
* AnythingThatMoves: Aphrodite's soulmate can include male gods, female gods, demons, anthropomorphic animals, monkeys, wolves, dragons, [[AndZoidberg Ne Zha, Cupid]]... they are also easily distracted by her blowing a kiss at them.
** FridgeHorror: Cupid is not only a toddler, he's Aphrodite's SON! Though frankly, Greek mythology being what it is, she's related to almost everyone in the Greek pantheon anyways. Or alternatively, Aphrodite's son is Eros, Cupid is just his 'Roman counterpart' and the game treated it like they're different beings.
* TheAtoner: To some extent, for inciting UsefulNotes/TheTrojanWar.
* PowerFloats: One of the many, many gods who apparently think walking is beneath them.
* BrokenBird: Her lore describes her as such. Although you wouldn't know it from her lines in-game.
* BrokenTears, {{Fainting}}: Mostly PlayedForLaughs. Her defeated animation first had her crying over her defeat so much that she fainted on Denton's arms. Aphrodite [[UngratefulBastard is not too pleased when she found out who protected her fall]], and then proceeds to kick the crap out of [[ButtMonkey Denton]], then back to crying.
* CaptainErsatz: Zig-zagged. While they look nothing alike, Aphrodite probably takes a lot of cues from [[VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends Ahri]], being the resident MsFanservice with the power to seduce anyone they want who harbors deep regret over the effects of their powers and trying to atone for their past, not to mention one of their repertoires involves blowing a kiss. However, Aphrodite (Support Mage) plays completely differently than Ahri (Assassin Mage), even their kisses work differently!
* ChickMagnet / DudeMagnet: Of such a degree she has an ability apparently created after having to fend off her innumerable suitors.
* CrazyJealousGuy / ClingyJealousGirl: Aphrodite blowing a kiss toward an enemy pisses her soulmate to give them a damage boost.
* CombatMedic: While she requires an allied god to make her soulmate with Kiss to use all of kit's offerings, she is decently capable on her own with Love Birds' impressive healing while using it and Back Off to harass an enemy out of lane.
* {{Combos}}: Love Birds travels slowly down a clearly marked rectangular area, making it very easy to avoid normally. Hence she will usually hit an enemy with Kiss first to stun them and guarantee that Love Birds will hit.
* DoesThisMakeMeLookFat: One of her possible responses if buying a defensive item.
-->''As long as it doesn't make me look fat!''
* DistractedByTheSexy: Blowing a kiss at enemy gods stuns them. [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer Any god]]. Doesn't affect minions though, perhaps they get she's out of their league.
--> ''One kiss from me will make you forget why we were even fighting.''
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: ''Any'' god can be affected by Aphrodite's Kiss ability, which marks them as soulmates.
* FeatheredFiend: Her Love Birds ability heals Aphrodite and her soulmate... but also damages any enemies caught in its range over time.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: DoubleSubverted - she's a BrokenBird blonde that ReallyGetsAround who caused UsefulNotes/TheTrojanWar with her insecurity... but is implied to have genuinely regretted her actions and seeks to atone for it.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Undying love is a more physical than abstract concept with regards to Aphrodite.
* Look into my eyes and find true lov... hey, MyEyesAreUpHere!: Serves as one of her jokes.
* TheMedic: Her Love Birds ability provides very significant healing to herself and her soulmate and her ultimate Undying Love renders them both temporarily invincible to damage while removing crowd control effects.
** Ironically, this doesn't work as well in teamfights, as she can only heal one target at a time. Compare to other healers like Ra or Hel, who can heal everyone at once. However, Aphrodite's heals are still considered stellar because it heals in a fast rate if she builds up magical damage, and [[CombatMedic it can hurt multiple enemies hard]].
* MsFanservice: Completely justified as Aprhodite isn't the "Goddess of Beauty" for nothing.
* NighInvulnerability: ThePowerOfLove renders Aphrodite and her soulmate immune to all damage and removes any crowd control effects upon them for the short duration of Undying Love.
* ThePowerOfLove: Aphrodite's abilities in a nutshell.
** Her passive titled "Loving Embrace" causes her soulmate to gain 30% of any mana gained by her (such as from basic regeneration over time).
** "Kiss" has her blow a kiss that travels. It can head toward an desired ally (though possibly intercepted by other targetable individuals) and mark them as Aphrodite's soulmate (she can only have one soulmate at a time), giving them both a movement speed boost. The soulmate bond breaks if the two are too far away from another. If the kiss hits an enemy, they are stunned for one second and if Aphrodite has a soulmate, it angers them and gives them a damage boost for a short duration.
** "Back Off!" has her damage and knock back enemies around her because [[ChickMagnet she's getting overwhelmed by all the attention]], unless she has a soulmate in which she slows instead and the ability's targeting is based around her soulmate.
** "Love Birds" summons a flock of doves to damage enemies within its rectangular area, as well as healing herself and her soulmate.
** "Undying Love" is her ultimate which renders her and her soulmate immune to all damage for a short duration and removing crowd control effects.
* ReallyGetsAround: If you know anything more about the goddess Aphrodite than her name, you probably woulda known this already.
* ProudBeauty: She isn't subtle about her job in her emotes, though her lore would imply this is just her trying to compensate for her insecurity.
* SadlyMythtaken: Her BrokenBird description for Smite is certainly artistic license verging on WildMassGuessing where her myths provide no hints to her having any sort of self-esteem issues.
* SympatheticAdulterer: Cheats on her husband Hephaestus... [[ReallyGetsAround a lot]]... but Hephaestus is stated to be inattentive which leaves her feeling worthless. However, Hephaestus is also stated to be causing this to her [[GreyAndGreyMorality unwittingly]]. How? Look at Vulcan's entry below...
* TrueBeautyIsOnTheInside: She doesn't think she's found she has it yet though.
** This doesn't stop her from mocking her enemies and allies.
--> ''Oh, but you ''are'' beautiful![[{{Beat}} ...]] in the dark.''
--> ''You should strive to find beauty in all things! Clearly in some things, it's just easier to find.''
* UglyGuyHotWife: Sort of. Hephaestus is noted to be hideous to look on when compared to Aphrodite. However, Hephaestus' Roman counterpart, Vulcan, is in the game and isn't that bad looking. No ShipTease existed between Aphrodite and Vulcan.
* ValleyGirl: After she receives her voice pack, Aphrodite turns out to have a minor case of this, with several [[PunctuatedForEmphasis "Oh. My. God"]] lines or inserting 'totally' in some of her words.
* WorldsMostBeautifulWoman: And also arguably the most {{Stripperiffic}}.
* YourCheatingHeart: Is not even remotely faithful to her husband Hephaestus, though the background states his.
** Her gameplay also weaponizes this. Aphrodite can blow a kiss to an enemy while already having a soulmate... this will enrage the soulmate to get an attack boost, which is exactly what Aphrodite player wanted, not to mention the enemy gets stunned, so the enraged soulmate can catch up to the enemy and beat the crap out of the enemy with increased attack damage. Cheating can lead to dead enemies!

[[folder: Chronos, Keeper of Time]]
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chronos_2519.png]]
[[caption-width-right:250:[[http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/smite.gamepedia.com/0/06/Chronos_Intro_1c.ogg "Time is on our side."]]]]

-> '''Voiced by:''' Stan Robak

Existence is measured in age. How many years has a mortal lived? What was the construction date of the Parthenon? When were the cosmos formed? Time begins at birth, at creation. But, inevitably, time for all things comes to an end.

Except, of course, time itself.

Bearer of the clock of eternity, rimmed by signs of the Zodiac, the Keeper of Time, Chronos, counts every tick of the second hand, preventing interference with that essential forward momentum.

If he knows who or when the eternal clock was wound, Chronos does not tell, but upon the first stroke, he came to be. Emptiness was the ocean, then, and his only companion was Ananke, Queen of Fate. Together, their powers divided the vastness into heaven and earth and sea and sky. Thereafter, Chronos became an observer, the watchman of infinity.

Patient to a fault, Chronos knows no urgency. He does not fear pain, or war, or death, for he is time itself and will outlast all. For this reason, his presence on the field of battle is alarming. This war between Gods must portend a conclusion so dire as to threaten the very existence of time. Perhaps, all the Gods should begin counting the seconds of the eternal clock. There may be few of them remaining.

Chronos is a Mage-type God. His passive, ''Wheel of Time'', is a constantly spinning wheel divided in four sections that only stops when Chronos uses his second ability. Depending on what section it stopped, Chronos gains a different bonus for a few seconds: either increased health regeneration, a reduction to the mana cost of all his abilities, bonus magical power or bonus magic damage to his basic attacks. With his first ability, ''Time Rift'', Chronos creates a time anomaly at a nearby area that detonates after a brief delay, damaging all foes inside. His second ability, ''Accelerate'', grants Chronos a movement and attack speed bonus for a few seconds, allows him to attack and move at the same time without slowing down, and also stops his ''Wheel of Time''. His third ability, ''Stop Time'', shoots several time gears forward, damaging and slowing all enemies they pass through. After a small delay, all enemies hit are briefly stunned. With his ultimate ability, ''Rewind'', Chronos moves back in time to his location eight seconds ago, with the same health and mana he had at that moment, as well as resetting the cooldown of all his basic abilities.

----
* ClockPunk: Has a bunch of gears on him, and his upper body is ''made'' of gears. He takes some of said upper body gears out to juggle for his victory animation.
* FragileSpeedster: Chronos is fairly squishy. However, he not only has an ability that speeds him up, he also usually buys the highest move speed item in the game on top of (between the item and his steroid) not having either attacking or backpedaling movement penalties. And then if you do manage to lay a hand on him his ultimate lets him rewind 8 seconds to where he was with the health, mana, and cooldowns he had back then. Have fun trying to kill him.
* MagikarpPower: Chronos has fairly lackluster damage and wave clear during the early game, and has one of the few completely non-damaging ultimates, so he doesn't get a big spike in potential damage at level 5 like most mages. However, the scaling on his abilities is excellent; come late game, he won't need a big flashy ultimate to kill you.
* OneSteveLimit: Of a mythological sort. Chronos should not be confused with ''Kronos'', king of the Titans and father of Zeus. That "h" makes all the difference.
* TimeMaster: You know, just in case his title didn't make it clear enough for you.
* ShoutOut: One of Chronos's jokes state that time is a [[DoctorWho wibbly wobbly]] TimeyWimeyBall. More subtly, he has a skin called "Time Lord".
* WingedHumanoid: Has a pair of small, mechanical wings which [[WingsDoNothing serve no purpose]] but to look cool.

Deep beneath the turbulent tides of the ocean lingers a God of idle rage. What must it be like to live forever in the shadow of your brother? To be denied again and again that which you desire, despite the power of the wrathful seas at your command? So Poseidon broods on his throne at the ocean floor.

As a child, Poseidon and his brother, Hades, were consumed by their father, Cronus. Powerless to escape, it was left to mighty Zeus to free them and slay their patron. Together, they defeated the last of the Titans and ushered in a new age of dominance for Olympian Gods, but their freedom, their very lives, Zeus would never let either brother forget were owed to him. Even as the heavens, the underworld, and the seas were divided among them, Zeus positioned himself as king of all, and what was Poseidon to do but be thankful he had been spared a fate in his father’s belly? So he retired to his new realm and began the pursuit of gathering worshippers.

Soon rose a great ocean front city of mankind, and Poseidon presented himself as their God, but another had already come, Athena, Zeus’ daughter. A competition was held – each God would offer a gift and the people would select their sponsor. Confident, Poseidon drove his Trident, a trophy from the battle against the Titans, into the ground and a limitless spring emerged, but the people found the water salty and undrinkable. Athena extended her hand and a graceful olive tree rose from the earth. Wood, food, and oil, all from one gift. The people decided and the city was called Athens.

It may be that Poseidon never desired greatness as Zeus did. Had his father never consumed him, had he never been made God of the Sea, had his brother never crowned himself King of the Gods, Poseidon might have lived contentedly, but that chance is gone. Now, with the very tides at his command, an army of sea beasts at his back, and the formidable Kraken at his call, the glowering God of the deep seeks to quench his thirsty rage and plunge all the world in endless, wrathful seas.

Poseidon is a Mage-type god with potent area of affect spells. His passive, ''Changing Tides'', increases Poseidon's movement speed and the damage dealt by his abilities (by up to 10% and 20% respectively), based on his Tide level. Landing basic attacks increases Tide, using abilities decreases it. Poseidon's first ability, ''Tidal Surge'', summons a narrow wave of water that travels in a line, damaging and pushing back all enemies it hits. His second ability, ''Trident'', is a steroid that increases Poseidon's movement speed and makes his attacks fire a three-shot spread. Poseidon's third ability, ''Whirlpool'', creates a pool of swirling water at a target area. Enemies caught within are crippled (unable to use movement abilities), dealt light damage over time, and slowly pulled towards the center. Poseidon's ultimate, ''Release the Kraken'', causes the mighty sea beast to erupt in the target area. Enemies caught in the large area are slowed and take damage; enemies in the power's inner circle take even more damage and are thrown in the air.

His Roman name is Neptune.

* BadassBeard: Poseidon has a large beard and long moustache disappearing into the beard.
* TheBeastmaster: Poseidon's ultimate, "Release the Kraken!", could technically count toward this but doesn't have the same feel as other examples since his only appears from under the ground to attack above once.
* ButtMonkey: From getting eaten by Kronus, being put under Zeus' shadow and eventually humiliated by Athena when trying to get a city named by his honor, there's no wonder Poseidon get a little pissed.
* CallingYourAttacks: "Release the Kraken!"
* {{Jerkass}}: One of his joke quotes, ''in his normal skin'' (not Poolseidon), takes potshots against fellow Water Mage God from another Pantheon, He Bo:
-->''"I ate that He Bo guy for breakfast.. with He Biscuits!"''
* {{Pirate}}: Dreadbeard Poseidon
* ProngsOfPoseidon: You can't have a game with Poseidon in it without his trident!
* TheResenter: Has this elements towards Zeus.
* SadlyMythtaken: Like ''ClashOfTheTitans'' and most other fiction about Greek myths, Poseidon can summon a Kraken to attack an area for his ultimate, despite it being a Norse myth while he's a Greek god.
* ShoutOut: Poseidon's ultimate will have him yell out [[ClashOfTheTitans "Release the Kraken!"]]
* SillinessSwitch: The "Poolseidon" alternate skin has him wearing nothing but swim trunks, decked out with various pool accessories and sporting noticeable tan lines. The skin has an alternate voice which turns him into an obnoxious man-child with a ridiculous lisp, and summons an enormous rubber ducky instead of a kraken during his ultimate (accompanied by "WEWEASE.... DA QUACKEN!!")
* SpreadShot: His basic attacks with Trident active.

Ancient poems warn of a narrow channel of water so treacherous that death touches all who approach. Sailors must choose to risk their ship, traveling close to the monstrous whirlpool Charybdis, or instead hug the rocky shoals where dwells a creature some say is made from the nightmares of all men.

Scylla, they call her, Horror of the Sea. No ship that dares sail in her waters goes unscathed. Those that cling to survival whisper panicked tales of enormous black tentacles tipped with slavering hound heads ravaging whole ships to splinters with pitiless precision. Though it’s her laughter, they say, that’s most horrible; child-like, delighting in blood soaked murder as men are dragged into the dark abyss.

Poets have tried to romanticize this beast, to provide some humanity to her monstrosity. They write she was once a beautiful Naiad, wronged by a jealous priestess and transformed. Yet the old poems say she was born this way, beget by gods full of jealousy and loathing; dropped into the sea to terrorize mankind.

Would that she had remained in the sea, but the nightmare has come ashore. Dragged by dog-headed tentacles she roams our streets, plucks us from our beds, and fills the night with disturbing laughter. Scylla has come, and not even the gods can help us.

Scylla is a Mage-type god, difficult to use but offering excellent damage and escape potential. Her passive, ''Quick Leaner'', grants Scylla's abilities an additional effect when they reach max rank, and for every maxed rank ability she gains 20 flat magic damage. Her first ability, ''Sic 'Em'', sends two of her tentacles out to attack an enemy, dealing damage and snaring them. At max rank, two enemies near the first enemy struck will also be snared. Her second ability, ''Crush'', creates a magical field that slows enemies and detonates after five second or when activated a second time. At max rank, the field lowers the enemy's magic resistance and keeps them slowed a second after the field detonantes. Her third ability, ''Sentinel'', passively grants her mana regen, using it summons one of her tentacles to the targeted location and gives her vision of the map, using it again will pull her to the tentacle. At max rank, the tentacle can be placed further and the vision area is wider and can see through player-made walls. Her ultimate, ''I'm a Monster'', has Scylla pull her tentacles out of the ground to reveal her true form. While she's in this form she's immune to crowd control, travels faster, and has access to a single, powerful attack. If she kills an enemy god with the attack, the effect refreshes and she can use it again. At max rank, the movement speed bonus doubles.
----
* BadassAdorable: Until she reveals her true nature, at least....
* TheBeastMaster: The 'beasts' in question are actally part of her body, but she gives them verbal orders and appears to have minimal actual control over them, if her defeat screen (where they drag her helplessly around while chasing a ball) is anything to go by.
* BodyHorror: What does her lower body look like under her skirt? 4 serpentlike tentacles with wolf heads.
* CreepyChild: And she's ''very'' aware of it.
* EvilLaugh: The "creepy giggle" variety.
* EvolvingAttack: One of her gimmicks, as all of her abilities gain additional effects once they reach max rank.
* FreudianExcuse: Defied. Her lore goes to pains to point out that, despite attempts by poets to provide one of these for her, Scylla is simply pure evil, despite her childlike appearance.
* IAmAMonster: The name of her ultimate, where she reveals her true form, which she also quotes verbatim. Contrary to the trope, however, she doesn't suffer any angst from it.
* LightIsNotGood: Looks like an adorable, sweet little girl. Is a sadistic monster.
* LittleMissBadass: Her youthful appearance belays how terrifyingly powerful her magic is.
* OlderThanTheyLook: One would think this is the case going by the mention of "old poems" in her lore.
* ShoutOut: Her Daisy Despair skin is one to the works of Creator/TimBurton and also {{Film/Beetlejuice}}. This is especially obviously with one of her hounds' heads looking like Zero from ''WesternAnimation/TheNightmareBeforeChristmas''.
* TokenMiniMoe: Though, again, there's no telling how old she actually is.

King of Gods, Zeus strives for fairness and justice, but will not hesitate to call down the thunder when there’s smiting to be done!

Zeus’ father, the Titan Cronus, immediately swallowed his children after birth so that none could overthrow him as he had his own father. When Zeus was born, Rhea, Zeus’ mother, hid the child from Cronus and gave the Titan a rock in swaddling clothes, which he swallowed instead. In secret, Zeus grew up on the isle of Crete until he was old and strong enough to challenge his father. During their battle, Zeus slit open Cronus’ stomach, allowing his swallowed brothers and sisters to escape, slaying the Titan. Then, Zeus released the Cyclops and other beings Cronus had kept imprisoned. In gratitude, the Cyclops awarded Zeus control over lightning.

With his two brothers, Poseidon and Hades, the three Gods drew lots to decide command of creation. Poseidon became king of the sea, Hades the underworld, and Zeus the sky. From his golden throne atop Mount Olympus, Zeus now rules Gods and Men with his wife Hera, upholding justice, hospitality, oaths, and honesty to all under his domain.

Yet, Zeus is a restless God, and while he holds high expectations for others, he does not keep those standards for himself. Chiefly, Zeus is nearly infamous for several infidelities to his wife which have resulted in dozens of children beget by other women, most famous of which are Hercules, Artemis, and Athena. Such wanton unfaithfulness is the source of great jealousy from Hera, though as King, Zeus can ultimately do as he wishes.

Weather is dictated by the Thunder God’s mood. When in a fair temperament, the sky is clear, bright and warm. When Zeus’ anger flares, black clouds roll in, lightning streaks the sky and thunder shakes the very ground. Lately, Zeus has been furious.

Zeus is a Mage-type god. His passive, ''Overcharge'', places electrical charges on any target struck by Zeus' basic attacks or abilities, up to three. Zeus' basic attacks deal 30% more damage for every charge on the target. His first ability, ''ChainLightning'', fires a bolt of lightning which will leap between up to five enemies, dealing damage and applying charges. With his second ability, ''Aegis Shield'', Zeus surrounds himself with four shields of lightning, increasing his movement speed and protections. When hit by a basic attack, Aegis Shield will reflect 10% of the damage and apply a charge to the attacker. Zeus' third ability, ''Detonate Charges'', consumes all charges on all enemies, dealing damage for every charge consumed. This can even harm enemies who are otherwise out of reach. Additionally, enemies with three charges are slowed. Zeus' ultimate, ''Lightning Storm'', creates a storm over a wide area, dealing damage and applying a charge to every enemy within every second of its five-second duration.

His Roman name is Jupiter.

[[caption-width-right:250:[[http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/smite.gamepedia.com/9/9c/Arachne_Intro_04.ogg "The brood is ready!"]]]]

Once, a beautiful and talented weaver of cloth and fabric, a single prideful mistake made a monster of Arachne for all time.

With loom and thread, there were none more skilled than the mortal Arachne. Viewers traveled leagues just to see her art. So wondrous and majestic were her tapestries, it was said the spinner must have been instructed by the patron Goddess of Weavers herself, Athena. To this comparison, Arachne proudly scoffed, claiming not even the Gods rivaled her talent at weaving.

When Athena heard this, disguised as a crone, she visited Arachne and encouraged her to show proper respect to the Gods. Arachne dismissed the old woman and issued a challenge that no God, not even Athena, could weave better than she. Furious, Athena revealed herself and accepted the challenge.

They both set to the loom with fervor. Athena wove a glorious tapestry depicting her battle with Poseidon over the city of Athens. Her detail and imagery were exquisite. Yet Arachne’s weavings depicted Zeus in his many infidelities with mortals. So flawless, so lifelike was her artistry, not even Athena could refute the skill, nor could she contain her anger at such a sleight. Violently, she tore Arachne’s tapestry and pressed a finger to Arachne’s forehead. Twisting in anguish, Arachne fell to the ground as additional legs grew from her body, screaming as she transformed into the first spider.

It was an act of anger and pity, a lesson and a curse, for spiders are the greatest of weavers, and Arachne, in particular, was to weave for all time, but none could doubt the consequence for Arachne’s pride. Still, within her twisted heart, Arachne never forgave Athena, consumed by a dark hatred that can be sated only by the destruction of the Gods.

Arachne is an Assassin-type Goddess, focusing on slowing enemies and powerful basic attacks. Her passive, ''Predator'', makes her basic attacks deal more and more damage for every 5% of the target's missing health. Her first ability, ''Venomous Bite'' is a steroid that boosts her next basic attack, making it deal extra damage and inflict a draining poison that causes further damage over time while healing Arachne for the same amount. Her second ability, ''Cocoon'' is another steroid, which greatly increases the speed of her next successful three attacks. If all three land on the same target, they are wrapped in a cocoon and briefly stunned. Arachne's third abilty, ''Web'', creates a wall of webs. Should an enemy pass through the wall (or have one created on their head), the web breaks and sticks to the enemy, causing a long duration slow that also reveals them to Arachne and makes them leave behind a web that makes her move faster and ignore slows while on it. In addition, a pair of Broodlings will be spawned and attack. Arachne's ultimate, ''Night Crawler'', makes her leap onto a web spun above the battlefield, becoming untargettable and able to move at high speed for up to five seconds. She may, at any point, leap off her high perch to deal damage to all targets in an area.

In September 2014, Arachne's kit was completely overhauled. For information on her old kit, see this [[note]]Arachne is an Assasin-type Goddess. Her passive, ''Poison Claws'', makes her basic attacks poison their targets, damaging them over time and stacking up to three times. Her first ability, ''Broodlings'', allows Arachne to lay down up to five clutches of spider eggs. An enemy getting close to the eggs will make them hatch, relasing two spiderlings that attack nearby enemies, damaging and slowing them. A clutch destroyed by enemy damage will instead release one spiderling. With her second ability, ''Drain Life'', Arachne leaps forward, holding onto the first enemy she contacts with for a few seconds, during which the target is silenced and damaged while Arachne is healed for the same amount. Her third ability, ''Tangled Web'', creates a huge spider web at a nearby area that remains there for a few seconds, slowing all enemies inside. With her ultimate ability, ''Cocoon'', Arachne fires a projectile of webbing forward in a line, piercing through walls. If the webbing hits an enemy God they'll be wrapped in a tight cocoon, damaging and stunning them while Arachne pulls them to her location.[[/note]].

* AbsoluteCleavage: Which can qualify as either {{Fanservice}} or FanDisservice depending on whether or not you find [[HumanoidAbomination her form]] [[GiantSpider repulsive as a whole]].
* AllWebbedUp: Pre-rework, she inflicted this with her ultimate. Post-rework, she does it with her second ability.
* CursedWithAwesome: She may be a hideous monster now--well, sort of, the humanoid part of her is still quite well-endowed--but without being turned into a giant spider monster, it's hard to imagine that she could've held her own in the arena of the gods, [[HoistByHisOwnPetard which even includes the very goddess that cursed her in the first place!]]
* CannonFodder: The spiderlings are useful to tank jungle creeps early in the game.
* CrutchCharacter: Pre-rework Arachne may well have been the single most powerful early game one on one god in the entire game. However, her damage didn't scale well into late game and she was extremely vulnerable to both crowd control and area effect attacks, both of which abound in late game team fights.
** That said, a good Arachne could make sure a game doesn't even last that long...
* GodivaHair: Goes just barely short of touching her insectoid body.
* MookMaker: Has an ability for this both before and after her rework. At one point [[UpToEleven she could lay down up to five eggs at level one with each one producing two broodlings to attack]].
* PoisonedWeapons: Arachne's pre-rework passive, Poison Claws, described her, well, poisoned claws. Although it is unclear if it was reffering to Arachne's arm claws or her spider leg claws. Post-rework, she has "Venomous Bite" instead of claws.
* SpiderPeople: The first one, in fact.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: Her old ultimate grabbed an enemy and dragged them towards her, even through walls. In a teamfight, this spelled instant death. Post-rework, Arachne's web wall and ultimate allows her both massive speed boosts and a leap to close to the distance, meaning if you hit the web and she's nearby, you won't be getting away from her if you don't have a dash or leap of your own.

Of arrogance and pride, the Greeks have but one word: hubris. It is a crime against Gods and Men, but a crime many commit with impunity. Even mighty Zeus is guilty. But when punishment is due, there is one from whom even the God of Thunder shrinks. She is Nemesis, the red-washed blade of Divine Retribution.

Recall the tale of Narcissus, so taken by his own beauty. Proudly, his visage was flaunted, to the detriment of all. Until, at last, he was led to a pond of crystal hue where his own reflection enraptured him. So long did he remain to gaze upon this self-image that hunger claimed his life. Thus does Nemesis respond to hubris. It is consequence equal to the crime.

Now, behold the war torn land, beset by the wrath of wanton Gods filling the air with blood and boasts. This battlefield is stained with hubris. Unwittingly, these foolish warriors have summoned their greatest adversary. Nemesis has come!

No longer will foul deeds engender success, no hoard of wealth held in undeserving hands, no legends told when falsely earned. Nemesis will unleash a tide of retribution. Punishment for the crime of hubris is death.

Nemesis used to be a Warrior-type god, but was later reclassified as Assassin-type. Her passive, ''Scales of Fate'', steals part of the target's physical or magical power every time Nemesis lands one of her basic attacks. Using her first ability, ''Swift Vengeance'', Nemesis dashes a short distance forward, passing through enemies and dealing damage to them. She may use the ability twice in a row if she wishes. Nemesis' second ability, ''Slice and Dice'', strikes a large conal area in front of her with two ghostly swords. Enemies directly ahead of her take double damage and are slowed. Nemesis' third ability, ''Retribution'', grants her a shield that absorbs damage, up to a cap or until its duration is up. While the shield is up, Nemesis reflects a portion (up to 50%) of incoming damage from gods, healing for the same amount. However, being stunned will remove the shield. Nemesis' ultimate, ''Divine Judgement'', reduces the health of a target enemy god. In addition, Nemesis steals a large portion of the target's movement speed and protections.

----

* ArmorPiercingAttack: One of the strongest in the game with her ultimate, which can steal up to half of an enemy's protections. While this may not do a whole lot to a squishy character that has built no defense anyways, it's huge when used against a bruiser or tank character.
* BareYourMidriff: Her shirt amounts to a midriff tank-top.
* {{BFS}}: Carries a rather large sword with her.
* CounterAttack: Nemesis's third ability is a shield that reflects damage back at enemies.
* TheDreaded: Even Zeus is afraid of her. Let that sink in.
* TheFaceless: To a certain extent, given that the upper part of her head is always covered by her hood, even in her alternate skins. During her new dance emote, however, one can very briefly see her GlowingEyesOfDoom.
* InstantAwesomeJustAddNinja: Her "Blind Vengeance" skin, complete with {{Engrish}} voiceovers and a [[KatanasAreJustBetter katana-like blade]].
* InTheHood: Her cowl attached to her shirt, which is also attached to the visor that hides her eyes.
* LightningBruiser: Upon release she definitely qualified, with her high mobility and damage complemented by a warrior's defensive stats and her shield's ability to completely nullify big nuke ultimates and other burst-damage abilities. Since her re-classification as an assassin, tends to be more of a GlassCannon, though she does still have the shield to make her hardier than most others in her class.
* NotTheIntendedUse: So much so that her [[UpToEleven her class was officially changed]] by Hi-Rez as a result of it. At first release she was labeled a warrior, but was used almost exclusively in the jungle with damage items, due to having poor wave clear but an excellent capacity to focus down single targets. She was subsequently re-labeled as an assassin.
* PercentDamageAttack: Her ultimate.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: She's the Goddess of Revenge. What did you expect?
* StockingFiller: She wears fishnet stockings.

Inevitably, all mortals must die. They cling to life with fevered desperation, for death is a cold unknown, filled with uncertainty and bleak, everlasting finality. Some accept fate with grace, others are dragged, kicking and screaming, though in truth, no mortal would go to Hades willingly. They are reaped by the nightmarish God of Death, whose grim visage strikes strange against the gleeful satisfaction he feels at performing his work. Thanatos is the very face of death.

Yet, to Thanatos, Mortals are easy prey. Their end is preordained, harvesting them but a game to pass the eons, but a God, a being beyond the mortal coil, now there is a creature Thanatos eyes with greedy longing. He despises the immortality other Gods covet. To him, it is a perversion and defiance of his very purpose.

But can a God truly die? As the Heavens clash and immortal blood spills on the Earth, Thanatos hungers to find out. War is but the preamble to death, a battlefield of souls rent from their bodies, listlessly waiting to be taken by the God of Death. A war between Gods, a war of this magnitude can mean only one thing. Thanatos is about to be very, very busy.

Thanatos is an assassin-type god. All of his active abilities cost a percentage of his health along with mana to use. His passive, ''Harvester of Souls'', reveals and marks enemies below a certain percentage of health, increasing as he ranks up his ultimate, up to 40%. Additionally, killing enemies will restore a percentage of the victim's health; killing gods restores more and shortens his cooldowns. His first ability, ''Death Scythe'', throws his scythe directly forwards, dealing damage to the first target hit, healing Thanatos for 75% of that damage and slowing the target. If the target is a god, they take additional damage equal to 10% of their maximum health. His second ability, ''Scent of Death'', is a steroid that grants Thanatos movement speed, slow immunity, and armor penetration. When moving towards a target marked by ''Harvester of Souls'', the speed bonus doubles. Thanatos' third ability, ''Soul Reap'', has him perform a wide sweep of his scythe after a brief delay, during which he moves slower. Enemies hit take damage and are silenced. Using his ultimate, ''Hovering Death'', Thanatos flaps his wings and lifts off into the sky, able to move over obstacles at great speed. At any time, he can descend to attack a target area. Gods marked by ''Harvester of Souls'' are killed instantly; all other enemies are damaged and stunned.

His Roman name is Mors.

----

* AnnoyingLaugh: His Jack the Reaper skin used to emit [[EvilLaugh loud, deep-voiced laughter]] every few seconds, with no input from the player and no way to stop it from doing so. The devs removed this feature of the skin after players pointed out how obnoxious it was. [[{{Troll}} Of course, some people may have chosen the skin for this very reason.]]
* CastFromHitPoints: All of his abilities cost a percentage of his health in addition to mana.
* CrutchCharacter: Thanatos is one of the most powerful characters during the early game, due mainly to how much damage his Death Scythe ability deals. At low levels it can shave off nearly half of a victim's health by itself; since it also heals him for 75% of that damage, he's going to win most any trade at this point. However, if the game goes long, his damage doesn't stay that way and he falls off pretty hard.
* DarkIsEvil: Considering how he wishes to kill almost every mortal and the gods themselves, he makes one of the few exceptions of [[DarkIsNotEvil non-evil dark guys]] in this game.
** LightIsGood: Archon Thanatos is all about light, and depending to your interpretation, he is definitely fighting to vanquish evil, [[KnightTemplar even if he gets a little overzealous]].
* DeathOrGloryAttack: Often the case when Thanatos is using his ultimate to fly into a fight, since he is quite frail and has no leap or dash abilities to help him escape if things go badly.
* EvilLaugh: Oh yes. In addition to his laugh emote, he also has one for when he kills someone with his ultimate.
* HeelFaceTurn: The Archon Thanatos skin is what happens if instead of being an outright evil, omnicidal dark deity, Thanatos is instead an angel [[JusticeWillPrevail fighting for justice]]. Still a bit of a KnightTemplar though.
* TheFaceless: Unless, of course, the "mask" ''is'' [[FridgeHorror his face.]]
* FinishingMove: His ultimate instantly kills an enemy god if they have a low enough percentage of health, no ifs ands and buts short of total damage immunity.
* ForTheEvulz: During his victory animation, he kills off Denton and a random soldier for fun, then brings them back to life as they run away. Why? Because it amused him.
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: As part of his victory animation, Thanatos knocks on the screen, points at you, and then at his wrist, as if to say "your time is coming"...
* TheGrimReaper: Or at the very least, the Greek version.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: He despises both Gods and mortals alike, who in return hate him back.
* HerdHittingAttack: One of the few gods to have an area attack in his basic attack chain.
* InstantDeathRadius: A very large one if his ultimate is up and you're under the execute threshold, [[YouWillNotEvadeMe since it doubles his movement speed and lets him fly over walls]]. However, if you see him coming and you can guess when he'll swoop down, [[DifficultButAwesome you can use a leap ability to dodge it]].
* {{Irony}}: Makes note of it sometimes when he dies.
* KnightTemplar: Can go both ways, depending your interpretation. By default, Thanatos seems to be more dedicated to do his job of reaping the dead, regardless of how much suffering it will cause, bonus points for being by default hating everyone. And in Archon Thanatos skin, he gets too overzealous to banish all that is evil, that some DarkIsNotEvil deities do not even escape his wrath.
* LargeHam: Thanatos is mostly a... SoftspokenSadist. Then, Archon Thanatos skin comes in and suddenly he feels like chewing a lot of hams.
* LifeDrain: A benefit of both his passive and his first ability, perhaps to compensate for the fact that his abilities all cost health. You can even see [[YourSoulIsMine little wisps appear and]] [[FridgeHorror dart into him when he kills minions]].
* MalevolentMaskedMen: He wears a pale, emotionless mask on his face.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: When activating his ultimate:
--> "Your time has come!"
--> "This ends now!"
* SadlyMythtaken: Unfortunately, the [[DarkIsEvil dark and edgy]] Smite Thanatos is a huge stretch from the Thanatos of ClassicalMythology who is a youthful and neutral figure associated with the gentle passing of death.
* SinisterScythe: His main weapon.
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: Also in his victory aniataion, Thanatos puts his face right up against the screen, points at the player, at his wrist, then gives the player the 'I am watching you' gesture.
* TheStarscream: A unique voiceline he has for killing Hades has him declaring that "you're next, 'Boss!'"
* [[ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks Throwing Your Scythe Always Works]]
* ThanatosGambit: The entire point of his ultimate. He's using his escape in order to get a kill.
* VictoryIsBoring: Reaping the souls of mortals? Too easy for Thanatos. Reaping the soul of Gods? Now that's a challenge.
* WhyWontYouDie: One possible reason why Thanatos is on a rampage. He views Gods' immortality as an insult to his job of reaping souls and would like to test if he can reap immortal souls
* YourSoulIsMine: Sometimes says this when executing someone with his ultimate.

There are none without admiration for Apollo, God of Music. He is brash, cavalier, and dauntless, with the power to bring hope to the hopeless and change the course of battle with a single arrow. Voices of soldiers, mothers, kings and emperors, even Gods rise in glorious melody in honor of him; and he, basking in their adoration, shines victoriously.

Though Hera, Queen of Gods, challenged his very birth, sending the great serpent Pylos to slay Apollo, his twin sister Artemis, and their mother Leto, not even she could deny him victory. Merely four days old, Apollo, gifted with a legendary bow, slew the Gaia Serpent and defied Hera.

In his humble youth, Apollo was a cattle herder. The trickster God Hermes stole Apollo's charges and led them to a nearby cave. From the shell of a tortoise and the body of a cow, he crafted the first Lyre. Apollo finally caught up with Hermes, saw the instrument, and simply had to have it, trading the rest of his cattle to Hermes for it. Years later, Hermes would send his son, Pan, to challenge Apollo in a contest of musical prowess, but Apollo soundly defeated the satyr with dexterous mastery of the Lyre.

As Apollo grew into his rightful place among the Gods, his victories mounted, and the songs of the Faithful were sung more and more in his name. Now, they raise their voices for Apollo to take the field as Gods clash. Never one to deny his adoring public, Apollo prepares for one last show.

Apollo is a Hunter-type God. His passive, ''Audacity'', grants him a stack with every succesful basic attack. Upon reaching ten stacks, Apollo's next five basic attacks will enjoy double the attack speed and also fire a second projectile, doubling the damage dealt. With his first ability, ''So Beautiful'', Apollo plays his lyre, sending forward a wave of sound so enrapturing that it damages all enemies it passes through. His second ability, ''Serenade'', mesmerizes all opponents around Apollo with his beautiful singing voice, disabling them for a brief duration or until they take damage, while also granting Apollo a bonus to his physical and magical protections. With his third ability, ''The Moves'', Apollo slides on his knees forward, damaging and knocking aside all enemies he passes through. When he arrives to his destination he slows all nearby opponents while giving himself and all nearby allies a movement speed bonus. His ultimate ability, ''Across the Sky'', has Apollo ride his chariot into the sky, at the cost of some mana per second, for as long as he has mana left. When he reactivates the ability he will dive at the target location, damaging and knocking aside all foes around his landing point.

Apollo has the same Roman name with his own name.

----
* BadassBeard: Apollo has a goatee.
* BritishAccents: He has one of these, surprisingly... perhaps his creators were specifically thinking of {{British Rock Star}}s?
* DoubleEntendre: One of his jokes:
--> "Is that a lyre in my pocket or am I just well-- Oh yeah, nevermind... That IS my lyre!"
* DynamicEntry: As a character with a global ultimate, he is very adept at pulling these, and it's one of the main things that sets him apart from other [=ADCs=].
* FragileSpeedster: Apollo averts this to a degree, being the only ADC able to buff his own defenses, with Serenade. It's still advisable to use it to mesmerize enemies and get out of there.
* FingerFirearms: His basic attacks are bolts firing from {{Finger Gun}}s he's making with his hands.
* ItRunsOnNonsensoleum: His capabilities are among the game's silliest for actually working. He kills people with ''sunlight'' and ''music!''
* MusicalAssassin: Cases in point:
--> ''Apollo strums a single cord on his Lyre. It's so beautiful it hurts...''
--> ''Apollo uses his amazing voice to mesmerize all nearby enemies and bolster himself with additional protections.''
* TheRockStar: One of his abilities, The Moves, is... him sliding on knees while throwing up the [[MetalHead "heavy metal horns"]] on both hands.
* ShoutOut: During his victory animation, Apollo sets fire on his lyre in the style of JimiHendrix.

[[folder:Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt]]

Armed with a magical bow, Artemis is the unrivaled Goddess of the Hunt!

Daughter of Zeus and Leta, Artemis and her twin brother Apollo are products of Zeus’ infidelity to his wife Hera. Insulted, Hera cursed Leta while she was pregnant, forbidding her to give birth on land or sea. Fortunately, she found an island that did not touch the ocean floor, so it was neither land nor sea, and thus bore her children. Artemis was born first, then miraculously aided as midwife in the birthing of her brother.

Artemis spent her childhood in the hills and forests, training with her bow and hunting beasts. As she grew older and more beautiful, she also grew proud and ruthless when slighted or dishonored, especially against those that claimed to be better hunters than she. Adonis boasted this very thing and Artemis sent a wild boar to skewer him. The twin demigods Otos and Ephialtes, who could not be killed except by each other, threatened to kidnap Artemis and force her to marry one of them, but were tricked when Artemis, appearing as a doe, dashed between them. As they thrust with their spears they impaled each other. Finally, Actaeon, after peeping at Artemis while she bathed, was transformed into a stag and devoured by his own hunting dogs. Such is the wrath of Artemis.

Her name is invoked by hunters seeking prey and by midwives during childbirth. Sacrifices are made in her name before a new military campaign. Adolescent girls are sent to her shrine to serve for one year. Beautiful, deadly, and chaste, Artemis is a focused woman and a fearsome warrior.

Artemis is a Hunter-type Goddess. Her passive, ''Still Target'', increases Artemis' critical strike chance with each succesfull basic attack, stacking up to three times or until she scores a critical strike. Her first ability, ''Transgressors Fate'', allows Artemis to place up to three traps in the ground that, when an enemy walks over them, snare them with vines, damaging and immobilizing them for a brief duration. Her second ability, ''Vengeful Assault'', grants Artemis a large bonus to her movement and attack speed for a few seconds. With her third ability, ''Supress the Insolent'', Artemis fires a volley of arrows into the air that fall at a nearby area, damaging and slowing all enemies inside. Her ultimate ability, ''Calydonian Boar'', summons her mighty wild boar, which will charge at a nearby enemy God every few moments during a brief duration, damaging and stunning the target.

Her Roman name is Diana.

----
* AllAnimalsAreDogs: Tusky, the Calydonian Boar, wags his tail, pants and plays fetch in her victory animation.
* TheBeastmaster: Artemis' ultimate has her summon The Calydonian Boar for a short duration (the boar also makes appearances in her after-game victory or defeat animations).
* BoringButPractical: Compared to other gods like Poseidon, with bursts of flashy damage, or even other physical carries, her arsenal is pretty underwhelming. Roughly 90% of her damage comes from her basic attacks. But if you manage to survive to late game, she is one of the strongest gods in the game in terms of raw damage.
* {{Combos}}: Transgressor's Fate has a fairly short range and a significant delay between when the command is given and when the trap becomes active, making it tough to hit somebody with it in the middle of a fight. The much easier stun from her ultimate, however, guarantees a Transgressor's Fate as a followup.
* DifficultButAwesome: She is widely considered to be one of the hardest gods to play, but has the highest damage potential in the game.
* FullBoarAction: The Calydonian Boar that she summons for her ultimate, rams enemies one by one, stunning them and dealing damage.
* MaleGaze: The new splash art for her Wrangler skin puts her shapely rear end front and center. The old splash looked almost directly down her low-cut top. Maybe this is a compensation for how much she averts this normally, as described below.
* MundaneUtility: The traps placed by ''Transgressor's Fate'' are great in a fight, but they can also be used as an early-warning system. Two of them can be placed so as to completely block an entrance into her lane from the jungle, alerting her player to an intruder whenever the orange damage numbers pop up on the edge of their screen.
* NoArcInArchery: Her arrows fired from her basic attacks fly horizontally parallel to the ground from her in a straight line before disappearing. Her arrows fired from Suppress the Insolent fire vertically perpendicular from the air downwards, also in straight lines.
* NoSocialSkills: Artemis' isn't exactly a social girl, being secluded in the forests by choice, her jokes came off like taunting her enemies further:
-->''"Training a boar to fight with you is much easier than house training him."''
-->''"This arrow has your name on it. See? "Moron", it's on all of them!"''
* PowerCreep: A victim. Artemis marked the end of an era, and the dawn of self-sufficient [=ADCs=].
* RainOfArrows: At the hands of her Suppress the Insolent ability.
* RedheadInGreen: As depicted in a lot of works.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Many gods have abilities whose names rather plainly reflect what they actually do, such as Ullr's "Thrown Axe," Aphrodite's "Kiss," or Poseidon's "Whirlpool." Then there's Artemis, who has "Trangressor's Fate" and "Suppress the Insolent."
* SlutShaming: Her taunts towards Aphrodite and Neith are this. Specifically, her calling Aphrodite a slut outright and mocking Neith's choice of clothes.
** The Aphrodite part was apparently removed by Hi-Rez (probably thinking that an overly direct taunt on such subject is not going to be good for publicity), now Artemis says nothing about her.
* TheWildWest: Her Wrangler alternate skin turns her into a cowgirl.
* TokenWholesome: She's the most well-covered female character in the game (aside from Scylla, who has the excuse of looking like a four year old) and even calls out a couple of the most {{Stripperific}} goddesses. Even Athena and Chang'e show some leg and some cleavage, respectively. Possibly going along with this is her joke that it's "stupid" how "all these guys" are "so serious over her." She has a good justification on this, though: Chastity is one of her domains.

[[folder: Medusa, The Gorgon]]
[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dce3a4c843a690134ce3752b94d423c9.png]]
[[caption-width-right:250:[[http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/smite.gamepedia.com/e/ee/Medusa_Intro_2.ogg "Did the gods think I would just sit idle and suffer? No. I will have my revenge!"]]]]

All monsters are hideous and fearful, but some are worse than others. There is only one whose hair is made of slithering serpents, only one with skin of scales, and only one whose very gaze can turn man, beast, or God to stone. Medusa, the Gorgon.

Stories claim she was beautiful once. A priestess of Athena. Loyal and devout in action, but Poseidon was determined to make her his own. It was the fairness of her features, the golden of her hair, that attracted the Sea God. Medusa, a mortal maiden, could not refuse.

When Athena learned of Medusa's betrayal, she punished the priestess. Those fair features were hideously wrought and those golden locks twisted to hissing vipers. Anyone that met her eyes was petrified - a statue for all eternity.

Medusa fled, frightened, ashamed and furious. For years she hid from the world, nursing a festering hatred for all things, craving beauty but having none, seeing none, until she became the monster she appeared to be.

She slithered now to the field of battle. Those wretched features concealed behind a cruel mask of porcelain perfection, eyes burning from within. All that she perceives, all that is wonderful in this world, she seeks to destroy. Perhaps then she will be the fairest monster of them all.

Medusa is a Hunter-type goddess. Her passive, ''Sidewinder'', lets her suffer no movement penalty from strafing and half of movement penalty when moving backwards. Her first ability, ''Viper Shot'', has her shoot out three vipers in rapid succession which poison them overtime. With her second ability, ''Acid Spray'', she spits out acid that, if it hits an enemy or a statue, will spread out in a cone. Any statues she created in the cone will explode. With her third ability, ''Lacerate'', she slithers forward and slashes the first enemy she makes contact with, reducing healing for a short period of time. Her ultimate ability, ''Petrify'', lets her remove her mask to reveal her hideous face. Enemies that are facing her take full damage and are stunned, while enemies that face away from her take half damange and are slowed. Enemies killed by ''Petrify'' are turned into statues and will remain on the battlefield, and can be destroyed with auto-attacks.
----
* CoolMask[=/=]WhiteMaskOfDoom: The mask she wears to conceal her face. Also serves as a PowerLimiter so she doesn't petrify the wrong people.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Like Hou Yi, Medusa's inclusion was foreshadowed by a line by Curse Voice Apollo.
* EvilSoundsRaspy: Specifically a serpentine hiss, added to the rasp it makes her sound even more threatening than Kulkukan.
* [[MalevolentMaskedMan Malevolent Masked Woman]]: And you certainly don't want to see what's behind it.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: Medusa makes it no secret that [[{{Naytheist}} she hates every god, regardless of who they are and what they've done]], and that if the battle didn't let her strike at Athena, she wouldn't be here. This is extremely evident with her voice pack's variant of the "You rock!" quote, which is a bold faced threat to kill the ally before they become a threat to her.
* LighterAndSofter: Her lore mentions Poseidon and her being a Priestess of Athena. Those who know about Classical Mythology know what [[DoubleStandardRapeDivineOnMortal that really entails]].[[labelnote:Explanation]]According to some sources ({{Ovid}}, in particular), Poseidon raped a virgin priestess of Athena named Medusa within Athena's own temple. Medusa was [[DisproportionateRetribution transformed into a Gorgon by Athena]] as punishment. Poseidon wasn't punished at all. Presumably a case of MightMakesRight, seeing as Poseidon was second only to Zeus in power. Alternatively being made a Gorgon was for her protection rather than punishment, as Gorgon imagery was often used to symbolize protection on breastplates, shields and coins.[[/labelnote]]
* {{Medusa}}: [[CaptainObvious Well, duh.]]
* {{Revenge}}: Naturally she's still pissed at Athena for her misery. She's also pissed at every God out there, but aside of Athena, she only said it to Poseidon.
* SadlyMythtaken: Medusa being a half-snake archer is an invention of ClashOfTheTitans. Acknowledged by WordOfGod, stating that this appearance was chosen because it is her most popular modern portrayal.
* SnakePeople: Unlike some other depictions where Medusa is more or less human above the waistline, Smite's Medusa is fully serpentine from her head to her tail. Even her face is far more like a serpent than a human, with a flat, lipless face with razor sharp teeth, and scent pits instead of a nose.
* {{Sssssnaketalk}}: Rare, but it's there at times.
* TakenForGranite: Her ultimate ability if she killed enemies with it.
