* MulticoloredHair: Betty has a strand of green hair, signifying that she's of noble descent.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Annie's hair is a vibrant purple, making her the first human character introduced in the story to have an unrealistic hair color.

* RightForTheWrongReason: He and most other chieftains are absolutely unwilling to [[spoiler:let Tindoiimu be the next arbiter]]. * NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Subverted; while William was 'rewarded' for trying to come to a human's aid with a poisoned knife to the chest, it was his merciless slaughter of Lazer's allies and condescension of the lower classes (which indirectly led to [[spoiler:Lazer]] being considered disposable by the army) that convinced [[spoiler:Lazer]] he was still irredeemable scum.

* MotiveMisidentification: Lazer overhears him discussing a failed assassination attempt on Diana. What Lazer doesn't hear is that Andrew was against the plan and has decided to allow Diana to leave the country in exchange for giving up her claim on the throne. [[spoiler:resulting in Lazer assassinating Andrew to install Clover as queen]].

* HeroicLineage: Samuel Balzac founded Rune Academy. [[It's likely the reason that Barbara was selected as the Academy's new headmaster.]]

A Life Magic student who studied under Morris Dietrich together with Aosta and Clio.

* TheBusCameBack: She's usually seen only in flashbacks when Morris was still alive. As of Mirage chapter 8, she makes a return appearance, having become Rune Academy's new headmaster.
* HeroicLineage: Among her ancestors was the founder of Rune Academy. She herself has finally proven her mettle by becoming the new headmaster.
* ImpoverishedPatrician: [[spoiler:Due to her family's connection to the Dracontines, Theodore captured and executed many Balzac family members, with Barbara being one of the destitute survivors.]]
* SternTeacher: As a headmaster, she's far less laid-back than Charle, much to Tica's chagrin.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[spoiler:Due to her ancestral family's ties with the Dracontines, she decides to consult them about Morris having been revived using Dracontine's reincarnation method. Unfortunately for her, the Dracontine who answers her, Zola, has a personal vendetta against Rune Academy and causes the near-destruction of the academy and ultimately the deaths of Charle and Morris.]]

A woman who lived in the Slums. Being Nigel's friend, she took care of the children in the Slums [[spoiler:before her demise]].

* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Messes with Lazer to give his friends a chance to escape, knowing he'll be captured and experimented on by Devious. After he's rescued he [[TakingTheBullet takes a dagger meant for Rune]], accelerating his own death.]]

* LovableCoward: Despite some early unjustified cruelty toward Rune, it's hard not to laugh at his antics.

* MotiveMisidentification: Lazer overheard him discussing with Devious about a failed assassination attempt on Diana [[spoiler:orchestrated by Devious]], thinking that Andrew would finish the job. What Lazer did not hear was that Andrew planned to let Diana to leave the kingdom in peace if she agreed to cease her own campaign for the throne, [[spoiler:resulting in Lazer assassinating Andrew to install Clover as queen]].
* PosthumousCharacter: He died [[spoiler:assassinated by Lazer who wanted to put Clover on the throne.]]

* WeUsedToBeFriends: Despite his threats in the intro battle, Angelia seems to regard him as an ally, telling him not to go through with his dangerous plans. Alas, by then, his mind is already made up and he won't be stopped.

A jellyfish beastwoman from the Eastern Alliance who studied runic magic at Rune Academy. She returns to the academy every now and then to compare notes.

* BerserkButton: Do not call her old. She reflexively smacks Aosta twice when he calls her a grandmother on both occasions. On a smaller scale, she also doesn't like being addressed with her surname Cheo.
* BeyondTheImpossible: The ability to use Rune Magic is exclusive to humans. Li Hwa's doing it or something very much like it anyway.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: She looks like an [[VideoGame/{{Splatoon}} Inkling]] and would rather think up ways to prank people than carry out her formal ambassadorial duties, but she's mastered a form of magic her species shouldn't be able to use and is ThePhilosopherKing to her entire tribe.
* DopeSlap: Thwacks Aosta twice when he foolishly alludes to her age.
* KungFuWizard: Aside from East Alliance martial arts, she also knows some rune magic.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Studied Rune Magic under Morris before more than 30 years before ''Mirage'', but looks like a youthful teenager.
* SpotOfTea: Sets up a traditionally Eastern tea pot and makes tea in battle. It has a variety of buffing and healing effects.
* StrangeMindsThinkAlike: She's very interested in Tica's magical research, and all the mischief Tica uses it for.

* ArchEnemy: He apparently has a nasty history with Izumi; just seeing the kitsune is his personal GodzillaThreshold.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He is wreathed in dark aura (making Charle highly suspicious of him), he controls the dangerous Void monsters... but he's trying to prevent the resurrection of Sdorica.
* EnemySummoner: He can summon and control Void monsters.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Implied; During Tica's storyline, he hints that he knows exactly what happened centuries prior that led to the rise of marionette religion in Atlas.
* TheUnfettered: We don't know what his deal is but we know that he's completely ruthless in his methods.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Assuming he's actually trying to stop Sdorica's resurrection, he's a truly epic one.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Despite his threats in the intro battle, Angelia seems to regard him as an ally, telling him not to go through with his dangerous plans. Alas, by then, his mind is already made up and he won't be stopped.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Implied; During Tica's storyline, he hints that he knows full well what exact event actually happened a few hundred years prior in Atlas which eventually started the marionette religion there.

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: She truly cared for Shirley, refraining from killing Shirley's baby when the latter offered to kill herself in exchange of the baby's life, and helped Shirley escape when the other Dracontines were hunting her down.

* YoungerThanTheyLook: Studied Rune Magic under Morris before more than 30 years before ''Mirage'', but looks to be a youthful teenager.

* TheCynic: He's intensely bitter about the world and takes it out on the few people he can. [[spoiler:Changes his outlook when he decides to back Rune up at the Martyr's Colosseum, and is much happier and more pleasant and a free man.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:First, he messes with Lazer to give his friends a chance to escape, resulting in him being captured and experimented on by Devious. Later, he intercepts a dagger Lazer aims at Rune, which speeds up his death.]]

* TheMole: [[spoiler:Devious promises him wealth to escape the Desert Kingdom should he prevent Sophie, Rune and their gang from snooping around about Elio's disappearances. He hastily blurts this out after the Dracontines decides to instead kill everyone involved]].

* ArchEnemy: He apparently has a nasty history with Izumi, so much so that as soon as he sees the kitsune, Uzziah attempts to end him right then and there.

* TheBusCameBack: She initially appeared only during Shirley's storyline, which was shortly after Shirley had a baby. She has since made a return in ''Mirage'' chapter 13.
* CurbStompBattle: On both the giving and receiving end of this in rapid succession. At first, she effortlessly takes down Barbara and Tica, but then a very furious Charle almost obliterates her in retaliation.
