Shortly after, it turns out that there is an unused treadmill back at Shindo's house, which ends up saving Prince a sizeable amount of money. * AcademicAthlete: A science student that becomes a part of the track team, so he's both studious and well-built. His muscles is what convinced Haiji that he's suitable for running.

* ScaryBlackMan: Averted. Manas is very intense and focused at the track meets, which can make him seem intimidating; however, with the ironic exception of fellow African peer Musa, nobody is actually afraid of him. If anything, a serious no-nonsense disposition and absolute concentration towards results like his is something that makes him more appealing as a character.

It's only after his (drunken) speech about running at Hakone that the others truly start to reconsider their stance on running. Kakeru notes that the team would be unable to form nor keep going without him.

* AllForNothing: [[spoiler: All his hard work ended up going to waste thanks to Kakeru causing an incident that led the team from being withdrawn from competitions, effectively rendering his years in high school null and void.]]

* BitCharacter: Unlike the other competitors, Manas' most significant scenes are only in his debut episode where he poses as a challenge for Fujioka and Kakeru. He appears again but does little other than race against Kakeru.
