As the "Are These Character Tropes" thread, Hoist By His Own Petard isn't a character trope, unless it's about a character who is repeatedly doing this until it becomes a character trait. I'm therefore moving these to the work page.

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Nolan's shock weapon unwittingly [[FeedItWithFire buffed Nora through her Semblance]], who then proceeded to take out all of Team BRNZ by herself.

* HoistByHerOwnPetard: Dew, Gwen, and Nebula tried to take advantage of Neptune's [[AbsurdPhobia fear of water]] during the end-game by remaining knee-deep in it. Unbeknownst to them, Neptune's weapon can [[ShockAndAwe channel electricity]], so all he needs to do is stick it in the water to defeat them.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

* LargeHam: Headmasters are expected to make speeches to their students. Theodore takes this UpToEleven, actually surprising the transfer students with his delivery in comparison to the likes of Ozpin and Ironwood. Theodore doesn't need a stage! He doesn't need a microphone! His speeches to the student body are physical events, with him leaving the stage to physically engage with them and using his gloves to create a loud ShockwaveClap to draw attention.

The work doesn't set up a compare and contrast between Gill and Jaune. They don't meet or interact or counter each other in some fashion, he's not even part of the story. There's definitely huge similarities between them, but until the work actually explores it, it needs to be a YMMV page entry for now.

* EvilCounterpart: Gillian shares many similarities with Jaune Arc, but is twisted and destructive in comparison to him. While Jaune is a young man that strives to become a hero to honor his family's legacy, Gillian is an ambitious woman that believes herself to be royalty and wants to overthrow the government of Vacuo. Both possess extremely powerful Auras and a Semblance that allows them to boost others, but from very different sources -- Jaune's Aura Amplification draws from his own considerable Aura, while Gillian's Aura Siphon drains Aura from a victim and passes it on to others. They both use simple "classic" weapons that lack augmentations and the ability to use Dust. However, while Gillian refuses to adopt technology and Dust for any reason, Jaune adapted his weapons according to his need, and they now have augmentation and the ability to use Dust. While both Gillian and Jaune became Huntsmen to help people, their paths in life were deeply influenced by a single individual: Pyrrha influenced Jaune to become a confident, powerful, competent Huntsman who puts the needs of others before his own; Jax's manipulative influence and ambitions caused Gillian to given up her own future for the sake of his and led her down a much darker path.

* BladeEnthusiast: She wields dozens of knives for throwing at her opponents, all stored in her skirt. When Scarlet hangs her upside-down using his pistol-rope, so many fall from her skirt that he finds himself in the middle of a FlechetteStorm.

* KnifeNut: Wields dozens of them for [[KnifeThrowingAct throwing]] at her opponents. When Scarlet hangs her upside down using his pistol rope, a bunch of them fall out of her dress and nearly impale him.

It has to look like villainy done with a good motive only for the motive to turn out to be terrible for this trope to apply. It never looked like something that could have a good motive from the outset. It was straight villainy from start to finish.

* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: Jax claims to be fighting to restore Vacuo to its former glory, but given that he builds the Crown by brainwashing Vacuan citizens or using them as batteries and when the battle turns against the Crown he decides to just have his army destroy everything around out of spite, its clear he's only in it for [[ItsAllAboutMe himself]].

Trope misuse; the whole point of the biomes is for the combatants to make use of them. If it's part of the nature of the fight, it's not breaking the "rules" of the fight. As we learn in the novels, Vacuans using the desert in battle is normal.

* CombatPragmatist: During the Tournament fight, Octavia uses the desert biome by firing blasts at the ground to kick up sand that blinds Sun and Scarlet. Neptune isn't affected because he always wears goggles.

Removing trope misuse. The trope is about two minor characters who act as in-universe commentary on the goings-on in the story. It's not for two characters who are always together.

* EvilLuddite: The Crown as an organization abolishes the use of Dust in any of its forms, including technology that is powered by Dust. The Crown sees Dust as the symbol of Vacuo's downfall. It was the country's natural wealth in Dust that lead the other Kingdoms to strip mine it all and reduce the once verdant land to nearly inhospitable desert.

Playing With Fire misuse (this isn't for anyone who just happens to use fire as a weapon in battle; the character has to be fire-themed and uses fire as part of that theme). Since he does have a mild theme of this trope, I've reworded it to accommodate. He doesn't have An Ice Person theme, however.
