* DavidVersusGoliath: The David in the climax of the film against the Predator. Dutch's gun was broken, he knows he can't beat the alien head one, so he resorts to a number of traps and covering himself in mud so the Predator can't see him while using its own hit and tricks against it. That said, it's only when the Predator willingly handicaps itself does Dutch stand a chance of actually winning.

[[SubvertedTrope However]], they're only enough to prolong the final battle with the Predator, and it's only when the Predator [[FairPlayVillain willingly removes most of high-tech gear aside from its blades]] to fight hand-to-hand does Dutch stand a chance of winning.

Added DiffLines:

* WorthyOpponent: The Predator clearly regards him as one in the end, as it throws away its own high-tech weaponry when it could easily kill him from a distance after cornering him to fight him with blade and muscle alone.

** On the receiving end of one when the Predator fights him hand to hand.

* GeniusBruiser: He's a very muscular man, but what allowed him to take on the Predator was relying his wits.

* CurbStompBattle: When it catches Dutch without the mud he was covering himself with, it has the chance to kill him on the spot but appears to give him a fighting chance. It wasn't much of one, as Dutch only manages to hit with a stick, which breaks against the Predator, and land one punch on its face, which also does nothing. He spends the rest of the fight getting pummeled.

* KnightOfCerebus: The tone becomes a lot more serious when it is introduced.

* HeroKiller: Murders Dutch's entire squad, and very nearly kills Dutch.
* KnightOfCerebus: The film plays out a standard action movie at first, then when it shows up. Then tone becomes a lot more serious when much darker as it is introduced.kills almost the entire cast.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Inflicts on Dutch in the climax, almost killing him.
* NoSell: Dutch tries hitting it with a stick, the stick shatters into pieces. Dutch manages to get off one hit on its face, and which also does nothing.

* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: They are as much of a honorable warrior than they are a hunter.

** The reason for this is to give the Predators an honourable death (as a form of seppuku), remove any trace of their existence and to prevent their technology from falling to the wrong hands, giving their prey an advantage.

to:

* WorthyOpponent: If a Predator finds an interesting prey, it will spend its time observing them before taking their skulls as its trophy. If the prey is able to fight back, it will dispose its weapons other than its wrist blade and removes its mask, challenging its prey to hand-to-hand combat.

Added DiffLines:

* WorthyOpponent: After Dutch managed to injure it using primitive weapons, the Predator removes its plasma caster and mask before challenging him to hand-to-hand combat.

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: It believes in a fair fight above all else, to the point of removing its gear during the climax, and will not target the weak or unarmed with its weaponry. Yet, when it is actually defeated in said fair fight, its response is to violently [[TakingYouWithMe self]]-[[NoBodyLeftBehind destruct]] while laughing like a maniac.
** AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: This may be less of a RageQuit and more of a pragmatic step taken to ensure that its advanced technology won't fall into the hands of a lesser-developed race.
* ChameleonCamouflage: Their cloaking system works as this--when it moves, the ripple of light playing across its figure makes it visible if one is watching carefully.

humans. Their feats of strength include;
** First Film: Carrying the body of a full-grown man (Hawkins, Billy) while climbing a tall tree vertically, lifting a full-grown man in combat gear (Dillon) with one hand, carrying the body of a large man (Blain) yet still being stealthy enough to evade detection and traps in a jungle, ripping a grown-man's skull and spine out in one go, knocking a bodybuilder-sized man (Dutch) off his feet and across a clearing with one blow and punching him so hard he starts coughing up blood.
