The Team Cleanup: removing examples that need more context / don't fit the trope / FMB holdovers

* TheTeam: Aside from Jason being TheLeader, the others mix and match archetypes. In particular, the hallmarks of TheLancer are shared with the other four.
** Kimberly is NumberTwo to Jason. The two are each other's closest confidantes, and where Jason leads by example, she gives more orders and direction. She has shades of TheHeart as the team's motivator, and being a literal cheerleader makes her the most feminine.
** Billy is the "best friend" to Jason, as they're the first to pair up, and [[spoiler:his death]] affects him the most. However he's primarily TheSmartGuy, able to hack ankle monitors, triangulate the location of the Zeo Crystal, and is a well-known nerd on campus. He's the one that loves the team the most, and the rest care for him in kind giving him elements of TheHeart.
** Trini is the IneffectualLoner that keeps to herself and questions how real of a team they even are. That said, she obviously loves her brothers very much, and is fiercely loyal to the rangers once they do bond.
** Zack is the instigator whose personality clashes the most with rest, [[FightingTheLancer even coming to blows at one point with Jason.]] That personality is a BoisterousBruiser BigGuy who's prone to destruction, from digging out the coins to stealing his Zord for a joyride.

* FakeMixedRace: Possibly. Zack's mom is shown to also be Asian despite him having the same surname as in the show, meaning it's possible that his father is Caucasian which would explain this. If true, he fits this trope, as Ludi Lin is of Chinese descent through both of his parents.

* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: The original Jason JumpedAtTheCall, but this one is much more reluctant. He's also much less HotBlooded than in the original series.

* ItsAllMyFault: Kimberly comes to believe that her own failure to own up to her wrongdoings is what's holding the team back from their attempts to morph. She unburdens herself to Jason, who assures her [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre that she's better than her mistakes]].

* AmbiguouslyAbsentParent: Zack lives with and cares for his mother, but his father is never mentioned and doesn't appear to live with the family.

* DarkIsNotEvil: Unlike his more colorful teammates, Zack is the Black Ranger, and despite his rough edges, he's solidly one of the good guys.

** Considering what we see of his family's financial situation (living in a trailer park, the only adult being too bedridden to work), he does have a legitimate reason to want the extra cash.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Yes, Rita was always a villain ([[CardCarryingVillain proudly so, in fact]]), but she never [[spoiler:tortured anyone]] in the original series. That's not even counting all of the people she killed for their gold. She also lacks any of her redeeming qualities such as [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes her genuine love for Lord Zedd]].

** Despise Despite Rita being this continuity's [[spoiler:Green Ranger]], original Green Ranger, no indication is ever made of the existence of [[spoiler:the Dragonzord]].the Dragonzord.

* AmbiguousStartOfDarkness: The audience is told that Rita is a former Ranger who went bad, but neither she nor Zordon provide much detail on her backstory, leaving her reasons for wanting the Zeo Crystal or betraying her teammates unknown.

* ArchEnemy: While they don't share any screentime after the opening scene, there's clearly a ''lot'' of bad blood between Rita and Zordon; [[WeUsedToBeFriends they were teammates]] until Rita betrayed her allies and killed them all, and in the present day, Rita goes berserk at the notion of being subject to Zordon's judgement, ranting that she is "worthy", no matter what he says.

* EvilCannotComprehendGood: In the midst of her VillainousBreakdown, Rita rants that the Rangers' camaraderie can't and won't last; having discarded her bond with her own team (though she implies that it might not have been quite that simple), Rita is clearly unable to truly appreciate the [[TrueCompanions true friendship]] the Rangers have developed.

* NotSoDifferentRemark: While confronting Trini in her home, Rita compares the two of them, claiming that they're both outsiders on their teams, though it's not clear if Rita is being honest, projecting her own issues onto Trini, or just flat-out lying to manipulate her.

* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:After being sent flying into space by the Megazord, Rita seems to perish, but she visibly smiles as her body freezes, implying that her trip into the void might not be as fatal as it seems, which wouldn't be surprising, as being at ground zero of a meteor strike had previously failed to kill her.]]

* WeCanRuleTogether: If her dialogue with Zordon during the opening scene is any indication, she offered him the chance to join her when she turned to evil, but he makes it clear that that would ''never'' happen.

* CompositeCharacter: As Rita is to the Green Ranger in this adaptation, so is Goldar to the Dragonzord. She even merges with him halfway through the battle in a similar place to Jason's cockpit on the Megazord.

to:

* CompositeCharacter: AdaptationalNonsapience: Downplayed; the original Goldar had a bombastic personality and could speak perfectly well, whereas this one never speaks and the only hint of personality he shows is his loyalty to Rita.

As Rita is to the Green Ranger in this adaptation, so is Goldar to the Dragonzord. She even merges with him halfway through the battle in a similar place to Jason's cockpit on the Megazord.

* EvilCounterpart: Seemingly one to Megazord. Goldar's head, particularily the horns and portion where his face would be resemble Megazord's own horns and visor, as well as sporting a similar build. Rita even fuses with him in same place where Jason's cockpit is located on Megazord.

* DeathByAdaptation: Played with; Zordon did meet his end in the original canon, and under similar circumstances to his death here (a HeroicSacrifice to defeat evil), but here, he's physically dead long before the present day, rather than serving as a mentor to the Rangers while trapped in a time warp.

* NiceGuy: Although he's a lot tougher and snarkier than the Alpha from the original show, this Alpha is still friendly, cheerful, and loyal to both the Rangers and Zordon.

Added DiffLines:
