* BrotherSisterTeam: Yes, they ''are'' siblings.

* {{Expy}}: Seemingly evil Pokémon who is thought to be destroying the planet but is actually good and trying to save it. Sound anything like Grovyle from ''Explorers of Time''/''Darkness''/''Sky''?

** Of Dusknoir, just like her master. She initially presents herself as a victim of [[HeroWithBadPublicity Hydreigon's]] ambush, but turns out to be one of the main villains who has allied herself with the Bittercold.
** She also shares traits with [[VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl Cyrus]], being a nihilistic team leader who wishes to destroy the world, as well as the concept of emotion, though she differs in that she does not wish to recreate a new world. Two of her admins are also the signature Pokémon of two of Cyrus's admins.

* {{Expy}}: Of Dusknoir. A powerful Pokémon who is initially helpful, but eventually becomes an enemy and is fought before the final boss in order to protect the future as they recognize it.

** Can be seen as an ice-based version of [[VideoGame/{{Earthbound}} Giygas]], sans some of the NightmareFuel.
** Could also be seen as an {{Expy}} of [[Videogame/{{Persona3}} Nyx]]. Both were brought about through the negative emotions of the beings living in their worlds, and their only goal is to being about TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt. Though granted, Nyx itself doesn't ''want'' to bring about the end of the world. The Bittercold, however...
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV Zeromus]] is also fair game for expy-age here. Both are defeated through basically everyone helping the heroes from afar, and they cannot be damaged until a certain point in the battle. To be fair, that also touches back on the aforementioned Giygas references (sans the fact that he could technically be damaged during the whole battle).

* CrutchCharacter: Actually joins your party for a bit during the story... at '''level 64!''' When you're likely to be in the ''late 20's''. Unfortunately, this is where he accompanies you on dungeons.

* ShipperOnDeck: Espeon seems to be this for Virizion and Emolga. In one of ''Super'''s online short videos, Kangaskhan becomes one for them.

* DudeMagnet: All the male characters from Post Town, except for Emolga [[RelationshipUpgrade (at first)]], are completely smitten at her sight.

* MotorMouth: Occasionally lapses into this, up to the point that he goes, "BlahBlahBlah".
* MrExposition: He sorts out almost all of the mysteries in the story once the hero meets him. On a more humorous note, he later tries explaining to Emolga and some others why the player was brought to this world. [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments Several hours later, he hasn't even reached the main point.]]

* OutsideContextProblem: The second villain in the entire Pokémon series, both in the games and the anime - the first was ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRumble Pokemon Rumble Blast]]'' - to be neither a {{Jerkass}} human nor a crazy/brainwashed Pokemon. Unlike ''Blast's'' [[GenericDoomsdayVillain Dark Rust]], however, the Bittercold is an EldritchAbomination played frighteningly straight for [[WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids something out of this series.]]

* NoSell: As a human, they are immune to the effects of the Bittercold.

* TheChosenOne: Seems like this at first, but [[TheChosenMany it turns out ''any'' human will do]]. [[FridgeHorror Unfortunately, the antagonists got most of the others.]]

* HumansAreSpecial: The reason they were brought to the Pokemon world.
* ItsUpToYou: Unlike the previous games, instead of a personality quiz, you choose the sole Pokemon you become.

* WeatherControlMachine: His V-Wheel can manipulate the V-waves, if you're lucky. He still keeps your cash.

A Ghost type Pokemon who runs "Glorious Gold" in Post Town.

* EvilCounterpart: Don't trust that pink and flowery adorable ball. She's the commander of a group of nihilists.

* HeelFaceTurn: Only at the very end though. By the time of [[VideoGame/PokémonSuperMysteryDungeon Super Mystery Dungeon]], she has become TheAtoner.

* BigBad: Starts out as this, until he's revealed to serve [[TheManBehindTheMan the Bittercold]].

** Unlike the protagonists of previous installments, this one is shown speaking regularly to the other characters throughout the story on occasion (outside of their InnerMonologue).

* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: When first joining your party, he starts at level 6. By comparison, the hero and partner start at level 7, and Emolga and Virizion start at level 15 and 20, respectively.

* HeroWithBadPublicity: At first, they are mistaken for dangerous monsters creeping around Post Town.

* ShipperOnDeck: Espeon seems to be this for Virizion and Emolga.

* ThoseTwoGuys: At first, they seem to be in on the scam, but they're really trying to help you build your house.

* NightmareFuelStationAttendant: He gets so hyped up about gold he [[ChewingTheScenery FILLS THE EMOTE BOX.]] He also stalks some of the residents of post town.

* AdaptaionalVillainy: Munna are usually innocent little critters, but this one is a flat out commander of a crazy, nihilistic cult.

* FirstEpisodeSpoiler: His part of the plotline takes place in just the first few hours of the game, yet that part is full of spoilers and it's difficult to talk about him without encountering a spoiler.

* TheQuietOne: Unlike the protagonists of previous installments, this one is shown speaking regularly to the other characters throughout the story on occasion (outside of their InnerMonologue).

* ConvenientlyAnOrphan[=/=]HeartwarmingOrphan: Notes that they lack a family when the protagonist's family is brought up.
** FriendlessBackground: They mention being completely alone ever since they could remember. [[IJustWantToHaveFriends Trying to change this is their reason for building Paradise in the first place.]]
* HelloInsertNameHere: In a slight break from tradition, they initially introduce themselves as [[SpeciesSurname their species]]. It's only after finishing the [[TutorialLevel first dungeon]] and helping them start their dream that they let you give them a nickname, which they decide to [[OnlyKnownByTheirNickname have everyone use from now on]].
** MeaningfulRename: The way they instantly take to the nickname you gave them helps reinforce how quickly you're bonding.

* DoggedNiceGuy: To Virizion.
** DidNotGetTheGirl: Unfortunately for him, Emolga ends up with Virizion in the end.

* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Mon]]: She's the only member of Post Town who doesn't immediately lose her head when the partner announces the end of the world. She is also one of the few to berate the other citizens over losing it and giving up hope in the player.

* [[GodInHumanForm God In Pokémon Form]]: Kind of.
* GaiasVengeance: A rare heroic example. Hydreigon isn't a true Pokémon, but rather a form taken by the Voice of Life, a being who embodies the world's will to survive and acts as one of its sworn protectors. He chooses to identify himself as the species of Pokémon he appears to be, though.
** He later goes on to note that there are actually multiple Voices of Life who reside in other regions of the world, though none of them are actually seen.

* LiterallyShatteredLives: Appears to meet his demise in this fashion at the hands of Kyurem.
** {{Immortality}}: However, he returns no worse for wear in the ending, cheerily explaining that his existence is tied to that of the world, and that he'll live as long as it does. It apparently just takes a while for him to manifest his physical form again if it's destroyed.
* MediumAwareness[=/=]FourthWallObserver: Seems to be aware the player is watching them even though their character was sent back to the human world.

* EvilCounterpart: To the player. Both the player and Munna found themselves in a situation where they had nothing and no-one to help them, and were then taken in and accepted by strangers. In the player's case, it was the partner, who helped them become a force for good. In Munna's case, it was the rest of Kyurem's minions (i.e. Toxicroak, Gigalith, Purugly, Salamence, Excadrill, and Chandelure) who all allied themselves with Kyurem and decided to help ensure the world's destruction.

* BigBad: Starts out as this.
** TheDragon: Until he's revealed to be a literal one of these to the Bittercold.

* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: He is not happy about the fate he is bringing to the world at all, and honestly believes that his actions will make a new world free of suffering.
** WellIntentionedExtremist

* {{Expy}}: Can be seen as an ice-based version of [[VideoGame/{{Earthbound}} Giygas]], sans some of the NightmareFuel.

* InformedAttractiveness: A lot of Pokemon all but ''drool'' over her in the game. However, there's really nothing that sets her apartment from a normal looking Virizion, let alone the fact that most players tend to view Virizion's design as rather derp.

* [[NiceGuy Nice Girl]]: Despite being one of the Pokemon with the best reasons to go to the Glacier Palace, she volunteers to stay behind so Dunsparce could go. She is also the first one to accept the player's claims of being human without hesitation while the other Post Town members had doubts or were too shocked.
