As revealed in ''Vivre Card - One Piece Visual Dictionary'' (the sixth databook, being released as a set of cards over a period of time), Mihawk was famous even before the Great Pirate Era started, and while he was issued a bounty, it remains unknown. He has enough skill to match ''Shanks'' in a duel - though this has fallen by the wayside now that Shanks has lost his good arm.

* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Mihawks towers at 6'6''. Perona is only 5'2''. So far, a non-romantic example.

* WineIsClassy: When not out slaughtering pirates, he can be seen relaxing in his mansion with a book and [[AGlassOfChianti a glass of red wine]]. His entry in the ''Vivre Card - One Piece Visual Dictionary'' reveals red wine is his favorite food.

* FisherKing: Granted, he ruled over what was already a desert kingdom, but with his Devil Fruit power, he could just as easily ''make'' his own desert. He can also cause droughts without end just by being in the area if he wants to--which, considering his WeaksauceWeakness to any liquid, is ''all the time''.

* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: He's a {{pirate}}, [[PimpDuds pimp]], [[DishingOutDirt sandman]], [[BadBoss boss]], {{samurai}}, [[VillainWithGoodPublicity hero]], [[BigBad villain]], [[TheMafia crime lord]], [[HandicappedBadass amputee]], ex-con and [[TheGunslinger cowboy]], [[YoungGun as of the SBS]].

** You know how Bellamy turning out to be alive in Dressrosa--after supposedly being killed back at Jaya--seemed to reveal that Doflamingo was a BenevolentBoss? Turns out that he not only ordered his minions to kill Bellamy in the colosseum because he lost his match and then failed to kill Luffy, but he had been intending on doing so from the beginning since he already considered Bellamy an "eyesore".

** And as it turns out, he does not lie about that. [[spoiler:When he was a kid, his father had his family live the simple lives as commoners, forfeiting their World Noble privileges and tried to live in a relatively more modest (but still wealthy) home. However, the citizens caught wind of a family of World Nobles living alongside them, and their home was eventually burned down. His family was forced into a dingy home near a garbage dump, and indeed, he and his brother ate garbage just to survive. His mother's health declined and she passed away, while the remaining family was nearly killed many times whenever angry citizens caught them. Both times the family tried to go back to Mariejois - the first by his father asking them politely, and the second by Doffy killing his father and attempted to return - they were refused, so he vowed vengeance against them. The worst part is that it's implied to be a SelfInflictedHell, he was so rotten and arrogant as a child and kept trying to act like a World Noble that it's his fault the normal people cottoned up to the fact of his family's lineage and they took their retribution for the abuses of the World Nobles out on his family]].

** His plan to trap Luffy falls flat on its face when [[spoiler:Luffy - who he expects to be fighting in the colosseum right now - is now in his palace with Zoro and Violet, and someone else (Sabo) impersonates "Lucy".]] Though to be fair, [[spoiler:''Luffy himself'' didn't see it coming either]].

** With the rest of his upbringing revealed, he became this to his younger brother - from their [[CainAndAbel nature and personality]] to their mentor and their life choices. [[spoiler:Despite their shared tragedy, Rocinante took after their parents and grew up to be an altruistic, compassionate man. Doflamingo, on the other hand, was deemed to have been born evil, his miseries just served to reinforce the worst traits in him; he never grew out of the bitterness of having been denied his birthright and wanted to destroy the world for it. In their childhood, Rocinante was taken in by Sengoku and became a Marine, while Doflamingo was taken in by the four executives and turned to a life of piracy, growing up with a conviction that his new 'family' fostered that he had the makings to become the Pirate King. In the end, Rocinante abandoned his mission and sacrificed his life for a boy unrelated to him. In contrast, Doflamingo would sacrifice anyone for his goals and all his actions are ultimately for the sake of himself, and the people he keeps calling 'family' are just means to an end]].

* EvilPuppeteer: Doflamingo is a thoroughly sadistic person with RazorFloss powers that he mainly use for PeoplePuppets - he can manipulate people's bodies, usually to harm each other.

* IronicEcho: Doflamingo says to Law that "weaklings cannot decide how they die" - the same thing Law himself stated to Tashigi in Punk Hazard.

** He genuinely cares about his gang, whom he calls his family, but even then he puts himself and his goal above them and would not hesitate to demand their sacrifices for his sake. To his credit, ''many'' of them would do it willingly, like Vergo and Monet. [[spoiler:In Law's flashback, we found out that this attitude also extended to his only remaining relative by blood - his younger brother Rocinante, as Doflamingo wanted Rocinante to consume the Ope-Ope fruit and die to give him immortality (though it's unknown how Doflamingo's emerging suspicion of Rocinante ratting out his family to the Marines factored in this scheme). In keeping with this extreme selfishness and egoism, once he knew Law had eaten the fruit, Doflamingo immediately demanded to retrieve the boy, so that he could "educate him the importance of dying for [Doflamingo]". He would likely have gone through with it too, had Rocinante not pulled a HeroicSacrifice to ensure Law could get away from him.]]
** Law eventually calls bullcrap on Doflamingo's definition of "family", claiming that Doflamingo only calls them family when they're convenient to him. And Law might have a point - chapter 782 reveals that [[spoiler:the Donquixote Family started when the four who'd later become his chief executives noticed Doflamingo's charisma and will to survive, particularly the Conqueror's Haki, appointed him their leader, and were fanatically loyal to him, under the belief he was the future Pirate King]]. Given how his 'family' was founded on, and how his upbringing from that point on had over and again reinforced his already unhealthy mindset, it's no wonder that Doflamingo's ego and selfishness grew to what it became. Law goes further and calls Trebol's reasons for following Doflamingo and their "family" to be delusional and pathetic; while Trebol may consider Doflamingo and the executives to be "equals", Law says that Doflamingo just considers them to be stupid, willing puppets who does what he wants. The above point also contributes to Law's argument.

* TheJuggernaut: Surprisingly. Anyone, who isn't Luffy or Law is unable to even put a scratch on him, and even both of above mentioned attacking at full force still wasn't enough. Every sure-kill attack leaving him with only minor injuries. Only one, who was able to fight with him one on one, was 4th gear Luffy. And when, after he was blasted across the country (twice),and it seems like he finally pass out... he gets back up and effortlessly wipes the floor with army of gladiators, trying to stop him. He was only stopped after a second round of 4th gear, and the finishing blow essentially destroyed the city as collateral damage, and he still survived.

* LackOfEmpathy: He takes delight in seeing the suffering of others believing that is the real desire of human beings. Doflamingo seemed incapable of understanding the reasons of why Law would care so deeply for Corazon. He argued back and forth that Law has him to thank for his abilities as a pirate and Law is ungrateful and petty for turning against him, in response Law claims he only has Corazon to thank for the life he holds to the present day. Reading the letters of "Corazon" on Law's jacket, he couldn't understand why Law wore them and named his crew the Heart Pirates instead belittling him for not holding the heart seat of his executives.

* LargeHam: He's actually been slightly mellower since the Timeskip, but make no mistake - Donquixote Doflamingo ''loves'' to ham it up. Especially when he's happy and excited about something (like during the Whitebeard War or when he starts getting the upper hand in his fight with Luffy and Law).

** His fight lasts for around 30-40 chapters (instead of the usual 20s for the other {{Big Bad}}s) partly because of this. He only starts getting what could be his first real deep hit on-screen with Luffy's Gum Gum Red Hawk move, and then he keeps standing; he also calls Luffy's subsequent Gear 2nd and 3rd attacks as "weak". Even when Law uses his Gamma Knife to cut his insides, he can patch it up with his powers[[note]]Though the anime added scenes that imply that the damage really was severe and he had to divert focus to fighting Luffy and keeping his injuries in check. So it's very likely he was weakened by the time Luffy took over[[/note]]. It's only when Luffy goes Gear Fourth that his "toughness" starts to break, and it ends with his defeat. The only character who's taken more punishment on-screen was ''[[WorldsStrongestMan Whitebeard]]'', who by comparison took an extreme case of RasputinianDeath to finally put down.

* RazorFloss: He has the Ito Ito (String String) Fruit which lets him shoot out strings from his fingertips, or occasionally other parts of his body. The string can slice clean through many things larger than its width, even meteors. Considering he has a vast empire (both literal and underground) and many connections and moles in Marines and World Government, it's a StealthPun - he's the man pulling the strings in both figurative and literal level.

* ThickerThanWater: Subverted. [[spoiler:Go ask his old man and his brother Corazon. No wait, you can't - as they're dead]].

* TheUsurper: Zigzagged. [[spoiler:Doflamingo's family were the original rulers of Dressrosa before they became World Nobles, so in his eyes, he's reclaiming his birthright. Kyros and the dwarves think of him like this though]].

* VictoryByEndurance: [[spoiler:It's worth noting that Doflamingo actually ''won'' his first serious bout with Luffy. Even though Gear Fourth Luffy outclasses him so much that he's basically a glorified punching bag, Doffy can just take hits better than Luffy can keep dishing them out. Eventually he outlasts Gear Fourth and while heavily injured, would have killed the now defenseless Luffy had Dressrosa not interfered.]]

** While his statements during the Marineford War are just his usual demented ravings he accurately states how the Marines do horrible things and get away with calling it justice because they are the biggest fish in the sea as it were.
** Following his defeat he claims that there will be a power struggle that will dethrone the World Nobles as the supreme authority in the world. Given that he lists the Four Emperors, Warlords, Supernovas, Marines, Revolutionary Army, and any D's as a possible contender for this spot and characters from each faction have a gripe with the Nobles, it's hard to argue with him.

** The entirety of the Dressrosa arc is one long [[{{pun}} string]] of these for Doflamingo. First, [[spoiler: after the Straw Hats succeed in knocking out Sugar, everyone who was turned into a toy goes back to normal with no way to reverse it]], thus not only dismantling his entire operation, but also restoring the memories of all of the people who had been forgotten. This immediately starts a revolution in Dressrosa, with the entire country calling for his head. Doffy does ''not'' take this well, becoming the most visibly angry we've ever seen him get. Secondly, once Law mentions that [[spoiler:he has the "D" name]], his attacks become less focused and much more wild leaving his defense full of holes. Law takes advantage of this and manages to score a blow to his midsections as a result. He considerably wises up afterward, though.
** Eventually he gets so fed up with everything falling apart around him that he [[spoiler:makes his Bird Cage shrink, intent on killing everyone in Dressrosa.]] Luffy is having none of that and proceeds to enter his Gear Fourth form to give Doflamingo the comeuppance he had coming since the beginning of the series, shrugging off his attacks and pounding the prick into submission. Doflamingo's face is teeming with rage and humiliation, since this is most likely the ''first time'' in his life he has ever been overwhelmed (at least by someone that isn't an Emperor if his fear of Kaido is any indication), despite the powers and influence he wields, especially to an "idiotic rubber nobody" that he believes Luffy to be. This finally culminates in his defeat when Doflamingo is slammed into the ground by Luffy's ''King Kong Gun''.

* VillainWithGoodPublicity: As the king of Dressrosa, Doflamingo had absolute dominion over the entire country, being able to do so as a Warlord. A good number of citizens once had a great deal of respect and admiration for him, to the point citizens tend to become angered when he is disrespected or spoken ill of in public. Doflamingo appearing to be a benevolent on the outside, in truth [[spoiler:he manipulated the former king to ran rampant across the kingdom and deceived his way into the hearts of the people of the country as their saviour. His actions of converting citizens to toys and erasing memories of such citizens further demonstrate a maliciousness towards the kingdom.]] When the kingdom learns the truth [[spoiler:of the toys thanks to Usopp and the Tontattas]], Doflamingo resorted to psychological means to control the citizens, noting that he should have used tyranny to rule over them from the beginning. He forced everyone in Dressrosa to kill and harm each other, and took advantage of the people's fear and greed for his own entertainment, offering freedom from his game of death and prize money by capturing twelve of his enemies.

* WhipItGood: His Overheat which involves him shooting a long rope-like whip out of string from his hand and pulverizing things with it.
* WildCard: For the World Government, he acts on his own whims and couldn't care less for their issues. Only coming to their call if it's something that interests him (such as the War with Whitebeard). In fact the way he got his position was largely through blackmail by intercepting ships with kingdom offerings to the Celestial Dragons.

** He didn't lose his cool even when Caesar Clown, Vergo and Monet were defeated. He instead simply ordered Monet to blow up the island after Baby 5 and Buffalo retrieved Caesar. When he found out that the island didn't blow up, he decided to go there himself. He only started to lose his cool when he learned that the Straw Hats and Law managed to leave the island with Caesar in their hands before he reached Punk Hazard.

** Played with. Although the Straw Hats are unable to even ''touch'' him, he's able to use his powers to transport them out of harm's way without physically wounding them. It's the whole "getting separated" ordeal that makes it significant - which is what he wanted, as the Straw Hats actually come out of that ordeal stronger than ever before, to the point that Franky calls Kuma a valuable ally.

* PetTheDog: [[spoiler: Makes his first appearance in the time skip starting a fight on one of Blackbeard's favorite islands. Why? To rescue one of his few living minions - Absalom. He seemed genuinely happy and relieved when he thought Absalom was alive... which makes it heartbreaking later when he learns his minion really is dead.]]

* AscendedExtra: She's the second character after Luffy from ''OnePiece'' who is included to the ''VideoGame/JStarsVictoryVS'' character roster. What makes it really impressive is the fact that not even the other ''Straw Hats''- yes, not even ''Zoro''- are in the game. And not only that, Hancock is the second ''fighting'' [[Manga/MedakaBox female]] character despite not even a main character like [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Rukia]] or [[Manga/{{Gintama}} Kagura]] or [[Manga/ToLoveRu Lala]] who are just supporting characters in the game.

* HeelFaceTurn: It wasn't simply because [[AllAmazonsWantHercules she fell in love with]] [[IdiotHero Luffy]]. This (and the falling in love after) happened after Luffy said he punched out a Celestial Dragon--the world nobles that, at one time, owned Hancock and her sisters as slaves.

* ShipTease: When asked by a fan, WordOfGod made all her personal information that dealt with romance--from her astrological sign to her blood type--sync up with Luffy's to be the perfect match, and she is even named after Thomas Hancock, the English inventor who founded the British rubber industry. She should be the perfect match for Luffy... but alas, he is a ChasteHero.

* UsedToBeASweetKid: A brief anime scene shows a pre-teen Hancock as a cute, even rather sweet cabin girl from a Kuja ship. Then she and her sisters were kidnapped, branded, force-fed Devil Fruits, and totally traumatized - which is the big reason she's such an asshole.

* EvilCounterpart: To Luffy. They even have similar sounding names. Their powers can also be considered opposites--both abilities allow their users to, in a sense, extend their bodies, but while Luffy can resist blunt force, he's still vulnerable to blades, while Buggy can resist blades but is vulnerable to blunt force.

* GagNose: It's his real nose. [[BerserkButton And for your own sake, you better not bring that up.]] Not that the series itself refrains from jokes- during the Loguetown arc, the anime made it seem like Buggy's nose was the singular ominous red eye of a robot by showing it as the only thing poking out from under a hood with a robotic powering up buzzing noise thrown in for good measure.

* ImprobableUseOfAWeapon: His usual knife-fighting style - three or four per hand, wielded like knuckle-dusters, which is really just a quick way to get all your fingers broken. Then again when you have a superpower that splits your body on reflex broken bones may not be much of an issue.

* PrecisionFStrike: In the Funimation dub, he utters the word "shit" twice- once after being ejected out to sea in his chibi form following his first defeat to Luffy, and again while in disguise at Loguetown when his hand of cards seems to fortell disaster in executing the revenge plot against Luffy- which it does.

* LovableAlphaBitch: She takes care of her people, is brave and caring when it comes to her sisters and those that earn her favor, and has a genuinely good FreudianExcuse. But to everyone else, well...

* LoveHurts: Uses this offensively. Also, ironically applied to her when she first felt feelings for Luffy, and risked dying from experiencing love for a man like the previous empresses did.

* NeverBeHurtAgain: The reason behind her behaviour. She was so scared of being a slave again that she put on a cold, cruel and strong front, so as to never show weakness again and thus never be kidnapped and sold into slavery again. The front has stuck so deep ever since that it became her actual personality, and for a time, Nyon feared that Hancock had truly become heartless, until she softened up near Luffy.
* OneWomanArmy: She was in the thick of the war and shown facing wave after wave of the strongest New World and White Beard pirates calling for her blood...and came out without a single hair out of place.

* SamaritanRelationshipStarter: She began to see Luffy differently from other men when he covered the back of her sister while they were fighting so that nobody could see the World Nobles' slave mark on her. Then reinforced when he chose to save Marguerite, Sweet Pea, and Aphelandra rather than benefit himself, especially since he visibly didn't even take time to consider.

Buggy the Clown was initially the first real pirate that Luffy encountered early on in his travels. Buggy is a rather gaudy individual who used to be on the legendary Roger Pirates crew, along with Luffy's idol Shanks, who Buggy eventually bore a grudge against for unwittingly foiling a scheme to find a legendary treasure. After Gold Roger's death, the two went their separate ways, and while Shanks went on to become one of the Four Emperors, Buggy hung around the relatively tame East Blue. His Devil Fruit is the Chop-Chop Fruit (''Bara Bara no Mi''), which lets him split his body apart as he pleases.\\\

After his defeat at Luffy's hands, he teamed up with Luffy's StalkerWithACrush Alvida, and after a failed attempt at revenge, entered the Grand Line in pursuit of the Straw Hats. He joins the Warlords during and after the two year time-skip. Through Buggy's [[UpToEleven major luck]] and charisma in stringing along a bunch of more powerful but completely gullible breakout criminals from Impel Down, as well as his past history of being associated with former Pirate King Gol D. Roger and being "friends" with Emperor Red-Haired Shanks, Buggy somehow managed to gain the World Government's attention so he was made a Warlord and became the leader of the Pirate Dispatch Organization. Whether or not Buggy's skill set has grown to rival the other Warlords and live up to the title remains to be seen.\\\

* WakeUpCallBoss: Downplayed example. Buggy was the first villain that managed to injure Luffy and give him trouble thanks to his Devil Fruit powers when compared to Alvida and Morgan. He was also the one who started the WorfEffect tradition with Zoro and several following {{Arc Villain}}s that the swordsman faced after him. Luffy was unable to defeat him by himself as he needed Nami's help to finish him off. However, Luffy was still giving Buggy a run for his money in the fight, hence why Buggy is downplayed. Another instance is that Buggy nearly killed Luffy during an ambush and was only foiled by lightning interfering with the execution.
* WeakButSkilled: As stated many times, Buggy isn't the most powerful character in the story by a long shot but his Devil Fruit abilities, his well-concealed shrewdness and his opportunistic behaviour allowed him to make it all the way to the New World as a warlord, despite being a StarterVillain and an overall goofball with a clown-like appearance.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Considering the rest of him, however, it doesn't really stand out.
** WordOfGod says that the blue tassels coming out the sides of Buggy's hat are also his hair. In other words, for the entire series prior to Impel Down, [[RealMenWearPink he's wearing pigtails]].

Joined the Warlords during the timeskip by providing the Marines with the hearts of 100 pirates, but lost the Warlord status when he revealed that Luffy and he were working together willingly in an alliance which was a breach of agreement with the World Government.

* WakeUpCallBoss: Downplayed example. Buggy was the first villain that managed to injure Luffy and give him trouble thanks to his Devil Fruit powers when compared to Alvida and Morgan. He was also the one who started the WorfEffect tradition with Zoro and several following [[ArcVillain Arc Villains]] that the swordsman faced after him. So far, it is completely ambiguous if Mihawk has a bounty, but what is known is that he has enough skill to match ''Shanks'' in a duel- though this has fallen by the wayside now that Shanks has lost his good arm.

* MysteriousPast: Despite being the very first Warlord introduced in the story, 800+ chapters later he's still the one we know the least about. In fact, ''all'' that's really known about him is that he and Shanks used to be rivals. Nothing about his background, where he's from, whether he had a crew at some point, how he gained the title of Greatest Swordsman in the World, etc. has been revealed at all.

* OlderThanHeLooks: Would you believe he was 41 when he was first introduced?

* WineIsClassy: When not out slaughtering pirates, he can be seen relaxing in his mansion with a book and [[AGlassOfChianti a glass of red wine]].

* {{Deconstruction}}: The group takes the concept of RecruitingTheCriminal and associated tropes and utterly rips it apart.

* RecruitingTheCriminal: They're called "government dogs" for a reason. As a lot of the tropes on this page shows, there are a ''lot'' of problems with this. See Deconstruction above. By the time of the Reverie, things have gotten so bad that [[spoiler:Vegapunk is working on a project to render the Seven Warlords unnecessary.]]

* MeaningfulName: "''Gekko''" is Japanese for "moonlight" and also refers to his AnimalMotif, the gecko. Moria is a very creepy and dangerous location in [[Literature/LordOfTheRings Middle-earth]] and, with a different accent stress becomes an old Italian word indicating the deaths of many (usually farm animals) after a plague/draught. Furthermore, from "Gecko Moria" you can get the word "Komori", bat, his second AnimalMotif.

* YouAreACreditToYourRace: Says this to Jimbei as praise for him saving the Impel Down escapees by calling whale sharks. Merfolk can talk to fish, but most Fishmen are too violent for fish to want anything to do with them.

* AmbiguousDisorder: His slurred speech pattern, childish personality despite being nearly 40 and complete reliance on his mother suggest him genuinely mentally handicapped.

The third of the Seven Warlords to be formally introduced, captain of the [[Characters/OnePieceDonquixotePirates Donquixote Pirates]] and the former king of Dressrosa. Doflamingo used to boast the highest known bounty yet revealed in the series at 340 million berries until post-time skip. Sly, rude and disrespectful towards the World Government, Doflamingo is sadistically playful with others, and seems to delight in causing and participating in chaos. In contrast to the sadistic way he treats most people, he is genuinely affectionate towards his quirky crew, who he considers to be his family (in a twisted reflection of Luffy's relationship with his crew). In turn, his crew all respect and love him, affectionately referring to him as "Doffy". Fitting in with his "puppetmaster" motif, Doflamingo eventually becomes the Underworld's top broker under the alias "Joker", and has countless underworld connections, including planting moles in the Marines, selling weapons to countries to provoke war, and formerly oversaw a massive slaver ring that catered towards the Celestial Dragon nobility. His most important partnership is with Kaido, who he keeps happy by producing artificial Zoan Devil Fruits known as "Smiley" to maintain Kaido's beast army. He is a believer in the New Age, an era where pirates focus on what's around them rather than embark on pursuits of romanticism, making him the antithesis of the Great Age of Pirates that Gold Roger set in motion. He has eaten the String-String Fruit (''Ito Ito no Mi''), which allows him to produce strings and literally manipulate people like puppets, sever limbs with ease, and travel across the sky just as easily. He also demonstrates the ability to use Haki, being one of the few known users of Conqueror's Haki to exist.\\\

After the time skip, his influence is felt starting from the Punk Hazard arc and finally culminates with him becoming the [[BigBad main antagonist of the Dressrosa arc]]. It was revealed that he was a former Celestial Dragon before losing his status. After a series of long, grueling battles, his "family" was defeated, with Doflamingo himself beaten by Luffy with Law's aid.\\\

Due to Issho's actions, the World Government couldn't cover up his activities and had no choice but to strip Doflamingo of his Warlord title.\\\

Prior to joining the Warlords, his bounty was 340,000,000 Berries. Since he was arrested immediately following his defeat, it has not been reinstated.\\\

The fourth of the Seven Warlords of the Sea to be formally introduced. Kuma is a very large man who is always seen carrying a bible. He has a reputation for being an incredibly ruthless pirate who crushed anyone to stand in his way, yet his quiet, calm demeanor and his (in hindsight) merciful actions fly in the face of that. He is also known for following the World Government's orders to the letter, unlike the other Warlords. Yet he also seems to follow the code of Moral Justice, rather than the seemingly more prevalent Absolute Justice, and unlike many other characters, seems to have an idea of what goes on behind the scenes.\\\

He also has eaten the Paw-Paw Fruit (''Nikyu Nikyu no Mi'') and is the prototype for the Pacifista project known as PX-0. It also turns out that he is an officer of the [[Characters/OnePieceRevolutionaryArmy Revolutionary Army]].\\\

The sixth of the Seven Warlords of the Sea to be introduced. Hancock is the Empress of the isolated Amazon Lily and captain of the [[Characters/OnePieceKuja Kuja Pirates]]. Renowned throughout the world for her beauty, she puts on the appearance of being distant, aloof, and, well, a {{Jerkass}} of the highest order, spoiled and selfish, prone to looking down on others. She's not above exploiting her reputation for all it's worth, as she causes most people to completely lose their composure and turn into gooey, love-struck morons.\\\

However, she has a FreudianExcuse as her past was not a pretty one. She was at first a normal young girl who, at an early age, witnessed Gold D. Roger's execution, and later hung out with her sisters Marigold and Sandersonia and the Kuja pirates. At age 12, while sailing with the Kujas, the three sisters were captured by slavers. After that, the three pre-teen girls spent four ''hellish'' years under the thumb of [[AristocratsAreEvil the World Nobles]], who among other things forced them to eat Devil Fruits, in her case the Love-Love Fruit (''Mero Mero no Mi'') which allows her to turn people who lust after her into stone, and branded them like cattle. Being branded as slaves is a constant shame, and she would rather die than let it become known. When Hancock was sixteen, a man named Fisher Tiger appeared and while his goal was simply the liberation of the fishman slaves, he freed as many as he could without discrimination. The sisters later were taken in by Elder Nyon, Raleigh and Shakuyaku, and returned to the Kuja pirates; to not let the truth become known, they said that they had killed a Gorgon and thus were punished with their brands, gaining fame as the Gorgon Sisters. The psychological damage, however, had already been done.\\\

Buggy the Clown was initially the first real pirate that Luffy encountered early on in his travels. Buggy is a rather gaudy individual who used to be on the legendary Roger Pirates crew, along with Luffy's idol Shanks, who Buggy eventually bore a grudge against for unwittingly foiling a scheme to find a legendary treasure. After Gold Roger's death, the two went their separate ways, and while Shanks went on to become one of the Four Emperors, Buggy hung around the relatively tame East Blue.\\\

His Devil Fruit is the Chop-Chop Fruit (''Bara Bara no Mi''), which lets him split his body apart as he pleases. After his defeat at Luffy's hands, he teamed up with Luffy's StalkerWithACrush Alvida, and after a failed attempt at revenge, entered the Grand Line in pursuit of the Straw Hats.\\\

Joins the Warlords during and after the two year time-skip. Through Buggy's [[UpToEleven major luck]] and charisma in stringing along a bunch of more powerful but completely gullible breakout criminals from Impel Down, as well as his past history of being associated with former Pirate King Gol D. Roger and being "friends" with Emperor Red-Haired Shanks, Buggy somehow managed to gain the World Government's attention so he was made a Warlord and became the leader of the Pirate Dispatch Organization. Whether or not Buggy's skill set has grown to rival the other Warlords and live up to the title remains to be seen.\\\

The Seven Warlords of the Sea (七武海, ''Shichibukai'', or literally the Seven Martial Seas) are a loose group of powerful individual pirates who have allied themselves with the World Government. A Warlord has their bounties frozen, the Marines and World Government stop hunting them and they are permitted to retain their crews, territory, and any operation they have. In exchange, they are required to hunt pirates and do the government's bidding when needed, which can include but is not limited to helping them fight wars. Along with the [[Characters/OnePieceTheFourEmperors Four Emperors]] and [[Characters/OnePieceTheMarines Marines]], the Seven Warlords comprise one of the Three Superpowers that define the current era. Although they are talked of as a group, the Warlords never work together nor do they like each other; as a result they mainly serve as a supplementary buffer for the World Government against the pirate threat.

While the Marines would rather not work with such characters, [[TeethClenchedTeamwork they feel as if they have no choice if they want to preserve the "balance" of the world]]. In the light of their abysmal performance, such as the Straw Hat crew regularly managing to defeat one of them, several Warlord being revealed as corrupt or others just plainly betraying the Government, several voices have been raised to scrap the whole Superpower altogether.

* HiddenHeart: While he may be an aloof loner, his interactions with Shanks, Zoro and Perona show Mihawk ultimitely isn't that bad a guy.

* PetTheDog: One of the recent chapter covers depicts Crocodile holding an umbrella over a sad looking dog that was shivering in the rain. Being fan-requested cover art, the scene is not canon, but the thought that one of the most despicable characters in the series has enough of a soft spot for dogs that he couldn't leave out in the rain is an amusing one.

* ObviouslyEvil: Nothing screams "I'm evil!" more than a demonic appearance. He looked even more sinister back in the day when he was thin enough to actually have a jawline, and was also HellBentForLeather, apparently.
