A precocious ten year-old fifth grader who transferred to Asahigaoka from Tokyo due to her dad's work. Tall and very developed for her age, she has a crush on short-for-her-age Komari, making multiple plushies in her likeness.

The only teacher at Asahigaoka Branch School, and Renge and Hikage's older sister. Kazuho can fall asleep anywhere and at any time. She often sleeps in and arrives late to school for this reason. Her family owns a rice field and she is Renge's main caretaker.

** Because of the assumptions she makes about Hotaru, Natsumi doesn't initially realize that Hotaru is just as interested in nature as she is, and is nowhere as squeamish as she thought. This is fair, considering that Hotaru is very girly and interacts more with Komari than with Natsumi.
** In the movie, she has a lot in common with Aoi, who is the same age as her, and they become quick friends. [[spoiler:She cries on the way home because she hadn't met anyone before who was so close to her own heart as Aoi]].

* NotSoDifferent: By the way he runs away from his mother after he and Komari see her scolding Natsumi for her bad grades, it's implied that he's actively doing something that would warrant the ire of his mom too (possibly not helping Natsumi study). He just doesn't have enough focus for it to be shown.

* NotSoDifferent: She and Natsumi are as bad as each other; unsurprisingly, they're very close friends.

* NotSoDifferent: She's a less rowdy version of Natsumi, which is why they become quick friends. And just like Natsumi, her mom has quite the temper, implying by her account of her mom's reaction that Aoi is not that far from Natsumi when it comes to goofing off.

* SoProudOfYou: Under the influence of alcohol, she tearfully states that she's relieved that Kaede cares so much about the girls, considering that Kaede was a very runty and antisocial girl when she was young.

* InsistentTerminology: A subtle example. She calls Komari "Koma-chan" and "Nee-chan" occassionally because, while those may denote affection from her, they signal the fact that Natsumi doesn't follow the proper reverence or honorifics she should give towards her older sibling (by the lack or "-san" at the very least).

* BestFriend: Although she is close to all of the girls, she is particularly close to Komari, whom she loves. In turn, Komari enjoys the company the most out of the four.

The happen to be called Senpai by another character (Hotaru for Komari, Souta for Popura), who happens to be infatuated by their cuteness; Komari and Popura also are unaware/unclear about this infatuation, however. The main differences stem on Komari being crankier and unreliable, and Popura being both older (17) and more voluptuous.

* ContrivedCoincidence: It's rather unfortunate that her name has the root term for "little", making her name a sort of SelfFulfillingProphecy.

* EmbarrassingNickName: 'Koma-chan' which is derived from ''Komai'' (tiny).

** She pretends to be knowledgeable about current trends, but others usually see through her quickly. A good example is when she, Hotaru, and Konomi were talking about music, fashion and love, and she was clueless on each topic.

* AllForNothing: Even though Komari is very self-conscious about her size, the people around her do not mind that about her at all, and as a matter of fact, love her for it. Apart from that, there are very few people she interacts with in the first place, as it's a very small social circle, so there's no one that would make fun of her for it; as a matter of fact, Natsumi only picks on her because she's self-conscious, and not because of any malice.

* GirlishPigtails: Wears her hair this way from time to time, complementing her childlike appearance.

* VitriolicBestFriends: She and Natsumi do not always look eye to eye, and they tend to hold grudges towards one another (especially in the manga); in spite of this, Natsumi is always welcome at her store and at home.

* CutenessProximity: The whole town knows she bends to Renge's cuteness without much resistance. Renge's effect over her almost nears CutenessOverload, but her natural stoicness keeps her reactions fairly in check.

* AwTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: In spite of the fact that Hikage gets in significant amounts of trouble at her expense, she denies Natsumi nothing, and spends most of her off-school time with her.

While she's markedly uninvolved, unenthusiastic and employs an extremely laissez-faire approach, she does not proceed out of malice of resentment like the typical example of the trope. She's just sleepy and often tired due to her other job of managing her family's rice field.

* MundaneMadeAwesome: During the ruler game, the girls are happily showing Hotaru how to play; cue Suguru, and the game gets ''freakin' tense''. with special moves, camera pans and action shots. He takes it to ''that'' level and he doesn't even utter a word.

* InnocentlyInsensitive: Natsumi rarely measures the consequences of her actions, but she is not malicious ''per-se''. She once subjects herself to the very thing she used to make fun of Komari (over-peppered her ramen soup) because she realized she was being watched by Renge... though she later realizes that Renge wasn't even paying attention in the first place.

* ACupAngst: Very envious of the well-endowed Hotaru. The fact that Hotaru is around four years younger than her does nothing help.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Komari isn't that unfriendly, in fact, she's the opposite but she does have her moments where she shows disdain for other people.
