[[folder:Konoe Konoka]]
[[quoteright:288:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s_gold_pactio_card_2970.JPG]]

Asuna's bubbly, [[GenkiGirl energetic]] friend and roommate. She's the heir of a rich and prominent noble family, specifically a fictionalized version of the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konoe_family Konoe family]] itself a branch of the ancient and aristocratic Fujiwara clan which has provided marriages for the Imperial family and once effectively ruled Japan. She is also granddaughter of Mahora's Headmaster, Konoemon. Unknown to her, they are also a line of powerful magi, and she has the potential to match her ancestors: Her raw magical capacity surpasses that of Negi himself, though she isn't able to utilize it particularly well for combat purposes.

After being let in on the secret, she started training to become the group medic, though her role gradually lessened into orbiting around Setsuna.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AiNonaka (Japanese) and Creator/MonicaRial (English)
----
* {{Bifauxnen}}: In the ''Negima!? Neo'' manga, Konoka puts on a [[TheShinsengumi Shinsengumi uniform]] while Setsuna is wearing a luxurious kimono.
* DamselInDistress: She was captured during the Kyoto arc before she had begun awakening her powers in order to fuel the revival of a massive demon god.
* DatePeepers: Watching Negi and Nodoka.
* DontCallMeSir: She doesn't like being called ojou-sama by Setsuna.
* FortuneTeller: She likes to tell fortunes as a hobby, but most of the time she makes things up out of pure amusement. This occasionally crosses into TheDitz territory when she'll try and do a form of fortune telling with something else (ie tortoiseshell readings...with eggs)
* GenkiGirl: She's very energetic and also very carefree.
* TheGlomp: She tends to deliver tackling hugs to Setsuna (or other characters occasionally).
* HealingHands: Her pactio operates along the lines of her laying on hands to an injured person and curing any injury they have taken. Her normal healing works differently.
* HimeCut: She has the hairstyle as part of her classical {{Ojou}} image.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeFashionable: She likes to dress up Setsuna.
* JumpedAtTheCall: She was already interested in fortunetelling and the occult, so finding out she's an heiress to a family of powerful mages sat well with her.
* KansaiRegionalAccent: Being from Kyoto, Konoka speaks with this kind of accent.
* {{Kemonomimi}}: Her disguise in the Magic World has cat ears and a tail.
* LipstickLesbian: While paired off with Setsuna, Konoka is still very girly.
* LonelyRichKid: Due to being raised in a mansion deep within the mountains, Setsuna was the only friend she ever had before entering Mahora.
* TheMedic: Her role in the team; she pushes the trope so far that she acts like a WhiteMagicianGirl and often appears in the standard red-rimmed white garb of the Japanese RPG white mage.
* ModestRoyalty: Despite being a rich {{Ojou}}, she chooses to live as the other students and has so far used her vast fortune only once in the series.
* NakedApron: In [[CovertPervert Setsuna's]] dream in [[spoiler:the LotusEaterMachine]] she's wearing nothing but an apron and cooking Setsuna breakfast while sleepy.
* NightmareFuelStationAttendant: She's perpetually cheerful and smiling, including when making morbid jokes.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: She tends to be very clingy and huggy with Setsuna, much to her embarrassment.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Tends to play TheDitz, and while there's no denying that she's a bit flaky, she often knows a lot more than anyone gives her credit for.
* {{Ojou}}: Her family is extremely rich. And yet, she still manages to be the ''least'' royal person living in her room.
* PrincessesPreferPink: During her princess moments, she often wears a pink kimono.
* {{Protectorate}}: Setsuna is determined to protect her.
* RapunzelHair: Down to her waist, fitting her high class status.
* RepetitiveName: ''Kono''ka ''Kono''e, granddaughter of ''Kono''emon ''Kono''e. Also [[AlliterativeName alliterative]].
* SchoolgirlLesbians: She gets relationship teasing with Setsuna, though it's slow to develop.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: It's implied that Setsuna first consciously realised how attractive Konoka had become when she saw her dressed up in a [[KimonoFanservice fancy kimono]] in cinema town. [[TransparentCloset Not that she was willing to acknowledge it just yet...]]
-->'''Setsuna:''' Ojousama really has grown into a beautiful young woman. Why am I so shaken up?
* SpoiledSweet: She is extremely rich and was raised in a BigFancyHouse, but Konoka is a really sweet girl.
* TaremeEyes: She has very rounded eyes in contrast to Setsuna, whose eyes often look much sharper.
* TheTease: She enjoys making flirty but innocent sounding comments around Setsuna.
* WhiteMagicianGirl: She is a healer, [[ActionGirl Setsuna's]] LoveInterest and has motherly tendencies.

[[folder:Hasegawa Chisame]]
[[quoteright:288:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s_gold_pactio_card_2398.JPG]]

The only character without a WeirdnessCensor, Chisame was introduced as a strange girl with a [[LivingADoubleLife double life]] -- a grumpy loner at school, but also internet idol "Chiu" at home. Her initial function was to [[MetaGuy snark about the implausibility]] of the situations she finds herself roped in, and initially tries [[AgentScully to deny or devise a mundane explanation]] for the supernatural events she witness, until Chachamaru confirms that she is indeed a robot, that Negi is also a powerful mage, and that she stumbled upon a plot to reveal magic to the world. Chisame thus gets involved in the plot to help maintain the life she's familiar with.

->'''Voiced by:''' Yumi Shimura (Japanese) and Creator/CaitlinGlass (English)
----
* ActionSurvivor: She's a relatively normal girl who's forced into the magical world to survive on her own, which she manages with Negi's help.
* ApathyKilledTheCat: Played with. She seems like she's trying to avoid how things work, but at the same time she's the only one who actually seems to think it matters.
* ButtMonkey: Bad things just happen to her, though it's rarely serious.
* CantStayNormal: A more reluctant example, having been metaphorically dragged down to paranormal kicking and screaming before leaping out to gasp for air, only to discover that air is now too easy and boring, and therefore ending up in a combination of being dragged down again and saying "the hell with it".
* CosplayOtakuGirl: The first time she's a focus character, she was dressing up in various costumes for her website.
* DeadpanSnarker: Like Yue, Chisame had a tendency early on to lampshade the absurdity of the situation. Unlike Yue, she really grew into the role rather than slowly losing it. This is about ten times funnier when she's in her Chiu outfit.
* TheDragAlong: Post Mahorafest she wanted to stay by herself and keep out of the group, but Chachamaru always dragged her along. When Chachamaru apparently briefly quits it, she gets bored and comes along voluntarily.
* {{Expy}}: Like Asuna, Akamatsu considers her an expy of Naru from ''LoveHina'', though of 'nerdy Naru' as opposed to Asuna's 'protective Naru.'
* GenericCuteness: She's ''supposed'' to have bad skin and pimples, but it doesn't show. Of course, the only one who actually claims that is herself, and she has notably low self esteem concerning her looks.
* GenreSavvy: While it doesn't help her much, she often predicts how events will turn sour for her. As the resident MetaGirl, she also often points tropes out.
* GirlishPigtails: In her child form.
* GreenEyedMonster: She often gets jealous when seeing Negi with other girls.
* {{Hikikomori}}: Left to her own devices she stays inside all day on the internet, though she only gets angry rather than anxious if taken out. [[spoiler:Gets worse post university.]]
* IdiotHair: She has one and she's the only class member without a WeirdnessCensor.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Frequently loudly moans about how she wants all the magic to go away and leave her alone [[spoiler:but she's lying; She's perfectly content with how involved she is.]]
* {{Kemonomimi}}: Cat ears and a tail in the Magic World.
* LittleMissSnarker: Thanks to some liberal use of age changing pills, she looks a 10 year old girl and is still as snarky as ever.
* LivingADoubleLife: A grumpy loner at school and the internet idol "Chiu" at home.
* MetaGal: She knows all about how fantasy stories go, which really helps her keep up with everything going on.
* NerdGlasses: She doesn't actually need them, but likes to hide behind them.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Most notably when [[spoiler: Poyo's LotusEaterMachine]] proves that she's the happiest and most satisfied with living in a FantasyKitchenSink of anyone in the group.
* OnlySaneWoman: Or so she wants to be. Negi seems to think so, considering he's more or less appointed her as his [[LizLemonJob "voice of reason"]], at least until [[spoiler:they rescue Asuna]].
* PlayboyBunny: One of Chiu's costumes.
* PlayfulHacker: Falls under this when she's not being the MetaGal.
* ProudToBeAGeek: Even as grumpy as she is, she loves being a geek.
* PurelyAestheticGlasses: She actually has ''better'' than average vision, and uses the glasses to hide behind.
* RapunzelHair: It reaches her waist.
* RefusalOfTheCall: She fights to get away from the weirdness, at first.
* TheSnarkKnight: ''Extremely'' distant and snarky when formally introduced. Her attitude gradually toned down quite a bit as she integrated into the central cast, but she still qualifies.
* StraightMan: One of the most normal people in the series. Or at least, the only one who seems to notice how crazy everything is. She even points out the weirdness of her class in her focus episode in the anime.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Acts as one for Asuna during the Mundus Magicus arc before Negi meets up with her again. After that she shifts roles slightly into more of an adviser rather than directly limiting his actions. Lampshaded by Jack.
* {{Technopath}}: Chisame's artifact allows a mental internet link.
* TechnoWizard: Becomes one after her pactio.
* TemptingFate: She shouldn't have joked about fighting someone in the middle of a conspiracy. Or about making a Pactio.
* {{Tsundere}}: Described as a borderline case by Akamatsu. She actually likes the Ala Alba group, Chachamaru and Negi quite a bit, but since she's naturally abrasive she hates to show it. She also can get even more violent than Asuna when it comes to Negi.
* {{Yandere}}: PlayedForLaughs, but during her focus chapter post-Mundus Magicus she was talking about pulling an "IfICantHaveYou" on Negi.
--> '''Chisame:''' "Oh yeah, you're gonna get stabbed and killed one day! No, I'm going to stab you and then I'll die too."

[[folder:Miyazaki Nodoka]]
[[quoteright:288:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s_gold_pactio_card_9591.JPG]]

Nodoka is a quiet and seemingly shy girl in the Library Exploration Club. She quickly develops a crush on Negi and forms a pactio during the Kyoto arc, gaining an artifact that allows her to read minds, which she uses to help acquire information for the group. Despite her ShrinkingViolet attitude, she's actually quite bold when it comes to pursuing Negi. She's normally associated with her club mates and close friends Yue and Haruna.

->'''Voiced by:''' MamikoNoto (Japanese) and Creator/LeahClark (English)
----
* ACupAngst: She laments her small bust size once.
* ApologisesALot: Especially when she's either thinking an improper thought, or using her mind-reading ability in a diabolical manner (what else to be expected from a ShrinkingViolet?)
* CovertPervert: Despite her looks and usual personality, her subconscious tends to have some rather filthy fantasies, up to and including devising a kind of [[ThreesomeSubtext menage a trois]] as a solution to her LoveTriangle with Yue; thanks to Diarium Ejus, she is aware of and mortified by her subconscious' rather direct approaches to such things. And so is everybody who was reading over her shoulder.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Purple hair and eyes.
* CuteBookworm: She's shy, quiet and is part of a club devoted to exploring the library.
* DesignatedVictim: During the Magic World, she's first attacked by bounty hunters to lure out Kaede and Setsuna and later Shirabe, Fate and Dynamis all make attempts to eliminate her due to her mind reading artifact.
* DoesNotLikeMen: In the anime she had a level of androphobia.
* DoggedNiceGirl: In fact, Nodoka was the ''first'' girl in the class to confess her feelings to Negi all the way back in the Kyoto arc.
* {{Expy}}: She's clearly one to Akamatsu's earlier character, [[Manga/LoveHina Shinobu Maehara]]. They look extremely similar and have the same shy, quiet attitude. Both are also know to be {{Covert Pervert}}s.
* HeroicBSOD: After seeing [[spoiler:Craig and Aisha get erased from existence]] in front of her her mind shuts down and Asakura is seemingly left alone desperately trying to think of a way out. She quickly recovers, however, and [[spoiler:steals Dynamis' Grandmaster Key.]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Not that good at receiving praise, even if it was well-earned.
* HiddenEyes: She started with [[BlindingBangs very long bangs obscuring her eyes]], to highlight her terminal shyness. As her shyness subsided, she [[PeekABangs first became cyclopean]] then was drawn normally.
* IdiotHair: She has one.
* InSeriesNickname: "Hon'ya", Japanese for "Bookstore" or potentially Bookstore keeper. The English translation at first [[InconsistentDub jumped back and forth]] between "Librarian", "Bookshop", and variants thereof before eventually settling on the literal translation, "Bookstore". It can also mean "bookworm" (the "ya" being sometimes indicative of a character trait or an deep interest in something).
* LivingLieDetector: Diarium Ejus can read minds with a great deal of detail, so in situations where she's safe from retaliation it makes her excellent at information recovery with no chance of misinformation.
* {{Munchkin}}: After being separated from the group in Mundus Magicus she joined a group of treasure hunters. She eschews any valuable treasure, instead aiming for ''Comptina Daemonia'' and ''Auris Recitans''. These items' powers combine with her Diarium Ejus to make it useful in real time instead of having to rely on the target willingly giving up their name and letting Nodoka sit down and read.
* NiceGirl: She's gentle and supportive even of her love rivals.
* PeekABangs: After opening up a little her eyes begin appearing more and more until finally the bangs essentially vanish.
* PluckyGirl: Negi getting his ass kicked by Fate? She gets Kotaro to teleport her in right next to Fate to figure out his plan. [[spoiler:Friends get erased from existence right in front of her]]? Panic for a few seconds, then [[spoiler:read his mind, steal his key and teleport to safety with critical information.]] Just because she's quiet doesn't mean she's a coward.
* ShrinkingViolet: Subverted. She's quite shy, but it's note that she's actually very assertive when it comes to pursuing Negi including a quick confession and getting a date in during Mahorafest. There's a reason her Pactio card lists "courage" as her virtue.
* WeakButSkilled: She has no combat abilities, very little magic, and effectively no experience. She does, however, have a mind reading artifact that allows her exploit an enemy's weak points in order to avoid their attacks despite being far slower and weaker than they are.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Purple, to be precise. (becomes blue in Negima?! though)

[[folder:Albert Chamomile]]
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/00228869_4173.jpg]]

Chamo is a crafty, lecherous, [[TalkingAnimal talking ermine]] and something between a familiar and a mentor to Negi. He provides comic relief, devises battle plans, forms the pactio circles and enjoys teasing the girls about their feelings for Negi, which he is apparently able to uncover via some form of weird magic. Despite mages being turned into ermines for breaking the masquerade, there is no indication that Chamo is such a case. Rather, he appears to be some sort of fairy.

->'''Voiced by:''' Masashi Yabe (Japanese) and Chris Cason (English)
----
* ButtMonkey: Whenever he says something perverse, he gets beaten up. In the first anime series, he also gets smacked in the face with a flashlight that was still on, leaving a red mark over his face for the rest of the episode.
* DatePeepers: He has great interest in following everyone around on their possible dates and making lewd comments on them.
* DirtyOldMan: Being a short-lived ermine, Chamo is an old man despite being ''younger'' than Negi. Both he and author's notes refer to him as a dirty old man several times.
* {{Familiar}}: He moves into the story attempting to get Negi to accept him as an official familiar in order to evade responsibility for some crimes he committed involving underwear theft. Negi, being quite gullible, swallows his sob story whole.
* FunnyAnimal: An ermine who talks, smokes and is perverted.
* HeadPet: He often hangs out on people's shoulders and even sits on Sayo's head once, who acts like a HeadPet herself.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Sure, he's a DirtyOldMan in ermine form, and constantly tries to manipulate people for his own gain... but he never puts his own goals above the safety of the rest of group, tries to make sure everybody else benefits along with him, and generally tries to make himself as useful as possible, even when an ermine generally wouldn't be able to do anything.
* LovableSexManiac: He sneaks into a swimming pool with the 3-A girls and pulling their bathing suits off and steals underwear. The former is actually his debut.
* TheMatchmaker: ''Loves'' to tell Negi to make more and more Pactios with the girls because he scores a bunch of money every time he does.
* MeaningfulName: かもがねぎをしょってくる (''kamo'' ga ''negi'' o shotte kuru), which literally translates into "a duck comes bearing green onions", an idiom referring to something being too good to be true.
* MentorMascot: While he's usually just Negi's perverted {{familiar}}, he does a bit of mentoring about a particular aspect of the local magic system, but mostly so he can collect a hefty paycheck from somewhere or other every time Negi gets a partner.
* TheNicknamer: Chamo has a nickname for ''everyone''. It's rare for him to call people by their actual names. It's much more common for him to give them names like Yuecchi or use terms like aniki, anego and nee san.
* NonHumanSidekick: Small, white ermine that looks to Negi as his big brother and helps him form pactios.
* OlderSidekick: Unclear. He acts like a DirtyOldMan, but as an ermine it's unlikely that he's as old as Negi. On the other hand, he's an ermine ''fairy.''
* PantyThief: So much that [[spoiler:his share of the Rainyday twins' LotusEaterMachine]] has him pretty much ''swimming'' in underwear.
* PunnyName: Chamo's name combined with Negi's refers to a Japanese legend about a duck carrying a leek that offers itself as a meal to lost and starving travelers, which has come to mean something too good to be true (you've got dinner with it's own seasoning), or to con-men, a sucker.
* SnarkyNonHumanSidekick: He's quite eager to get Negi as much tail as possible. He also likes to comment on all the FetishFuel and {{Fanservice}} that tends to go on around them.
* WeaselMascot: With DirtyOldMan tendencies to boot!

[[folder:Saotome Haruna]]
[[quoteright:289:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s_gold_pactio_card_4691.JPG]]

Haruna is the final member of the Library Exploration Club to join Ala Alba after getting involved during Mahorafest, where she JumpedAtTheCall, much to Negi's terror. Unlike the other club members, Haruna seems motivated almost entirely by self amusement and plays tricks on Yue and Nodoka for laughs even while attempting to help them get closer to Negi. Thus, she has little personal involvement in anything Ala Alba does, but she views it as a good way to have fun.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SawaIshige (Japanese) and Creator/JamieMarchi (English)
----
* CaptainObvious: When attacked by Shirabe, she helpfully points out the obvious fact that her violin blows stuff up and that she works for Fate. Lampshaded both times.
* DatePeepers: During Nodoka and Negi's date at the festival, she kept following them around trying to push them into a more "interesting" direction. Why? [[ItAmusedMe Because it's fun!]]
* EverythingsBetterWithPenguins: Her Suka form in ''Negima!?''.
* GenreSavvy: She has a pretty good idea of how a shounen manga is supposed to work due to her obvious otaku status.
* HairAntennae: She has hair antennae that seem to function as ''actual'' antennae, including the ability to home in on feelings of love.
* InSeriesNickname: "Paru". Doubles as a LuckyTranslation in French, as "paru" can mean "published". Since she's a mangaka…
* ItAmusedMe: She has a tendency to act like a jerk and embarrass people for shits and giggles.
* {{Jerkass}}: It's generally PlayedForLaughs, but Haruna is often selfish, irresponsible, impulsive, rude and thoughtless. Though she does care about Nodoka and Yue at least, her attempts to help them with their love lives seem primarily motivated by amusement. She tags along to the action because it looks fun rather than really caring and [[spoiler:phrases her refusal to withdraw the ship in terms of wanting to make a good name for herself for when she conquers the world.]]
* TheMatchmaker: Started out pushing Nodoka heavily towards Negi, and then when she realized Yue also had a crush on Negi she backed off slightly and said she'd support both. Following this, she's begun pushing as many girls at Negi as possible as well as egging Natsumi on regarding Kotaro.
* MsViceGirl: She's very greedy and selfish.
* PetTheDog: She gets a nice moment at the very climax when [[spoiler:her ship crashes in Mahora and she's extremely happy to see Madoka and gives her a huge hug.]]
* RapunzelHair: The length seems somewhat inconsistent. Sometimes it's to slightly above her waist and sometimes it trails a few inches below.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: Whenever an idea pops into her head, her glasses reveal her true nature.
* SecretChaser: She is rather fixated on finding out who, if anyone, Negi likes. Creepily, actually.
* SequentialArtist: [[MagicalGirl Mahou Shojo]] [[ShowWithinAShow Biblion]] {{doujin}}s.
* ShipperOnDeck: Begins with Negi/Nodoka, though she stops pushing the two together when she becomes aware of Yue's crush and opts to support both. Later, she becomes a Konoka/Setsuna ''and'' Kotaro/Natsumi fan.
* TokenEvilTeammate: She seems completely uninterested in the actual goals of the group or helping people. She's also quite fond of making people look stupid and her long term goals include taking over the Magic World. She's friends with Yue and Nodoka, which is basically the whole reason she's in the group: They failed to keep the secret from her and she forced her way in.
* YaoiFangirl: She dragged Negi to the ''[[{{Doujinshi}} Comiket]]'' and showed him yaoi doujins of what appears to be ''Manga/SayonaraZetsubouSensei.''
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Asakura Kazumi]]
[[quoteright:292:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s_gold_pactio_card_3548.JPG]]

Asakura is the local SchoolNewspaperNewshound and an aspiring IntrepidReporter. She discovered Negi's secret early on and loosely followed the events [[WildCard with no real affiliation]] apart from pursuit of interesting stories until integrating more fully into the group around the end of Mahorafest. She is Sayo's best friend and the two formed a partnership of sorts due to Sayo being almost completely undetectable, making her a great spy.

She tagged along to the Magic World without having formed a pactio with Negi.

->'''Voiced by:''' Ayana Sasagawa (Japanese) and Creator/MonicaRial (English)
----
* AnimeHair: Uhm, nice pineappe-shaped cut.
* BigBreastPride: She's pretty proud of her bust and is offended when Negi notices that developed as she is she's still no Shizuna.
* CameraFiend: Her class panics when being attacked by a ghost? She pulls out her camera immediately.
* CombatCommentator: She plays the referee during Mahorafest, though most of the more detailed. commentary is done by someone else.
* {{Expy}}: To [[Manga/LoveHina Kitsune Konno]], with the nosy, busybody traits turned UpToEleven.
* TheGadfly: Shows signs of this when she starts to boast about her supposed FirstKiss with Negi.
* HotScoop: Always out for the latest scoop and never short of bare skin to show.
* IntrepidReporter: Her interest in revealing Negi as a mage is what kicks off her involvement in the plot.
* PetTheDog: Often rather amoral, but there are lines she won't cross, even for a big scoop. In the manga, she immediately switches to Negi's side when she learns her current actions are going to get him turned into an ermine while in the anime she refuses to post a story about Sayo because the pictures she took were of a miserable crying girl
* SchoolNewspaperNewshound: She dreams of the big scoop that will really make a mark and her investigative abilities appear to be top notch.
* UnfazedEveryman: Asakura seems to occupy a special niche somewhere between Chisame and Haruna. On the one hand, you have Chisame who absolutely freaks about magic while on the other hand you have Haruna who is jumping for joy when she hears about it. Asakura? She feels like she could probably write a good story about it or something, but isn't really that interested in getting too involved and never begins learning magic like the likes of Yue or even Makie.
* WildCard: Her pursuit of the truth and rather carefree moral compass can result in her switching sides easily, though she definitely has everyone's best interests at heart.

[[folder:Aisaka Sayo]]
[[quoteright:290:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s_gold_pactio_card_8249.JPG]]

Sayo is class 3A's resident ghost and a little too [[CuteGhostGirl cute]] and inept to be considered scary, despite her occasional efforts. Apart from being impossibly clumsy, she's also extremely difficult to detect. Upon being slightly noticed by Negi during a class vote, she attempted to make her presence known and after some mishaps more characters were able to see her fully and she became Asakura's best friend and assistant. She eventually gains a small doll that she can possess and joins Ala Alba as their [[StealthPun ghost member.]] She appears to have a bit of a crush on Negi, but this was never developed since post introduction they only spoke once or twice.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YuriShiratori (Japanese) and Kate Bristol (English)
----
* CuteClumsyGirl: Tripping on flat pavement when you don't even have feet? That's pretty bad. Carries over to the little doll effigy as well.
* CuteGhostGirl: She's too incompetent to be scary, though she tries. Most of the class thinks she's too cute.
* FogFeet: Since she's a scary ghost, she gets scary ghost feet. And manages to trip over said nonexistent feet.
* FriendlyGhost: She's a ghost, but she's too nice and cute to be scary, and the only thing she wants is a friend.
* FunSize: She gets a tiny, cutesy doll body to inhabit right before going to the Magic World.
* GhostAmnesia: She remembers very little of her life, her death or any goals she might have that might be the reason she's hanging around. The first anime gave one version of her death, though.
* GhostLights: She tends to have little floaty lights around whenever she's being particularly ghostly.
* GhostlyChill: Nobody takes her seat because it's always so cold.
* HeadPet: When she's possessing a small doll, she sometimes sits on people's heads, usually Asakura's.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Having been friendless and lonely for around 60 years, Sayo is very desperate for a friend. Unfortunately, her attempts of making friends are horribly misunderstood at first.
* JacobMarleyApparel: Wears a SailorFuku, probably the school uniform when she died back in 1940.
* {{Joshikousei}}: She [[JacobMarleyApparel wears an obsolete uniform]].
* LockedIntoStrangeness: When she was alive, she had black hair. As a ghost, it reversed to white.
* MissingMom: In the anime, it's shown that her mom died in war sixty years ago.
* MobileSuitHuman: She gets around in a tiny, vaguely humanoid doll which apparently makes her act energetic and ditzy. [[spoiler:Haruna creates a robot body for her with her artifact. Her doll body drives it from inside.]]
* MysticalWhiteHair: It indicates that she's not human.
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: She just wants to make friends, but all her attempts to communicate with people are interpreted all wrong.
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: She has been tied to her seat for more than sixty years due to reasons still undisclosed, can't leave the school grounds until Asakura got a special doll for her to possess and is absolutely terrible at being a ghost.
* RapunzelHair: She has waist length hair.
* ReluctantMonster: She occasionally makes halfhearted attempts to scare people, but it's obvious she'd much rather be making friends. Reminders that she's a ghost tend to be depressing.
* StringyHairedGhostGirl: She is mistaken for one after Asakura takes a [[SpookyPhotographs Scary Photograph]] of her. It gets to the point that they even call in two professional exorcists to take care of the problem before they finally figure out that she doesn't want to hurt anyone.
* SuperDeformed: She spends some time with Chachamaru and Negi in a chibi doll of herself.
* VerbalTic: Says ''desuuu'' in a spooky ghost voice. [[DontExplainTheJoke Because she's a spooky ghost]].
* VisibleInvisibility: For 19 episodes of ''Mahou Sensei Negima!'', she's invisible to everyone but the audience.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AiNonaka (Japanese) and Creator/MonicaRial (English)
----
* {{Bifauxnen}}: In the ''Negima!?
* RepetitiveName: ''Kono''ka ''Kono''e, granddaughter of ''Kono''emon ''Kono''e. Also [[AlliterativeName alliterative]].

* {{Technopath}}: Chisame's artifact allows a mental internet link.

* IdiotHair: She has one.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SawaIshige (Japanese) and Creator/JamieMarchi (English)
----
* CaptainObvious: When attacked by Shirabe, she helpfully points out the obvious fact that her violin blows stuff up and that she works for Fate.

''Every'' adaptation since have gone out of their way to introduce her earlier and most leave her visible to the audience long before any of the characters take note of her presence.
* FlowerMotif: In the anime she's associated with the leopard plant based on how she died.

* GatlingGood: [[spoiler:Haruna took the liberty of tricking out the MobileSuitHuman she created for Sayo with, among other things, chest-mounted gatling guns. Later on, Sayo gets the privilege of manning a minigun mounted on Haruna's airship.]]

* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Asakura, since she was the first to see her, and normally is the one to cart her doll body around. This close bond had something to do with the fact that Asakura had been Sayo's seat partner, and this had the closest connection to her. In the first anime, the bond between the two is established after Asakura begins to investigate the mystery of the "unknown girl in the class roster". As the anime was done way before Sayo was even introduced in the manga, it's much different than the manga introduction yet is considered one of the few things said adaptation did right.

* MoreDakka: [[spoiler:After having her MobileSuitHuman made, she suppresses a trained Megalomesembrian battalion with a Gatling gun.]]

* ShoutOut: Her [[MobileSuitHuman Mobile Suit Human's]] cockpit design is this to MobileSuitGundam -- it's exactly the same as the orignal Gundam, Guncannon, and Guntank, complete with the bulky fold-out targeting computer.
* SpookyPhotographs: She shows up in both a photograph and Nodoka's mind reading book, unintentionally looking really scary, even though she just wants to talk to someone.
* StealthPun: Her 'title' of Ala Alba Ghost Member, noted above, is a pun on her being a ghost and the ghost member of a club being someone who doesn't attend club activities and is only a member on paper.

* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:Takes one of Fate's petrification darts for Nodoka and Asakura while in her doll body, which turns to stone and apparently can't be exited in that state.]]
* UnfinishedBusiness: Parodied during her introduction. After learning that all Sayo wanted was to make friends, Negi and Asakura approach her and tell her that she can be friends with them, and she immediately fades from their sight. While Negi tearfully looks up in the sky assuming that she's finally left in peace, Mana, who has a stronger ghost sense than Negi, points out that she's still right there, on the same spot.

Doo doo doo.

* AmusingInjuries: He tends to get beaten up, get broken bones and bleed out regularly. Doesn't seem to keep him down for long.

* {{Greed}}: Every time he makes a successful pactio, he gets fifty thousand ermine dollars. No wonder he keeps pushing Negi towards making more.

* HeyYou: A lot of characters don't refer to him by name. Evangeline more or less calls him "a thing" and Chisame called him "small animal".

* LoveChart: He can apparently produce love charts with some weird magic and isn't even aware of what will be on them until he looks himself.
* MarsNeedsWomen: He seems disturbingly attracted to human girls.

* NeverTheSelvesShallMeet: Two different Chamos meet each other during Asuna's date with Takamichi, give each other high fives and then apparently switch places.

* TheNoseKnows: Uses a pair of panties to track down a pair of enemy girls who are dozens of kilometers away with pinpoint precision.
* NoSmoking: Chamo's cigarettes were winkingly labelled "chocolate" in the first anime.
* OddFriendship: Seems ''very'' friendly with Chachazero, Eva's bloodthirsty puppet. She tends to have a bottle of wine ready whenever he shows up.

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Some scanlations have his name as "Kamo", but "Chamo" is the more widely used version. [[TakeAThirdOption The French version writes it "Camo" though.]]

* AllInTheManual: [[http://bato.to/read/_/210664/mahou-sensei-negima_ch335.5_by_no-group/10 Supplementary Bonus chapters]] revealed as to how she got the money to purchase the Great Paru-Sama: she got rich from selling {{Yaoi}} doujins in the Hellas Empire. [[spoiler:And apparently, she became a wanted criminal there.]]
* ArtInitiatesLife: Her artifact lets her drawings come to life. The more detail she puts into it, including notes, the better they are. One percent of the damage taken by them is inflicted on her. Despite attempts to use it to fight she never comes up with anything that works.
* AttackHello: She's another of the ones who seems fond of entering a scene by hitting Negi.

* CheshireCatGrin: Her ''only'' smiles seem to be Cheshire Cat grins. Whenever she's smiling, something bad will happen to someone.
* CreatorGod: In the second anime, she gives Shichmi and Motsu their forms.

* DynamicEntry: As a rather amoral, energetic girl Haruna is quite fond of saying hi by kicking people in the head.

* ForcefulKiss: She forcefully stole a kiss from Negi for her Pactio. Twice.

* GiantFlyer: One of the most effective uses of her power is to create a flying manta ray thing.

* IAlwaysWantedToSayThat: She has a list, though we only hear one of the lines.
-->"I'm gonna say it!!! Number 8 on the list of "Lines I Want To Shout At Least Once In My Life"! [[spoiler:'''Fire Main Cannon!!!'''"]]
* ImaginationBasedSuperpower: Imperium Graphices allows her to give life to any drawing -- just about ''anything''.

* JumpedAtTheCall: Haruna, unlike the others, had no reservations in kissing Negi for magic powers. In fact, literally the first time she saw Negi after learning about pactios she jumped him to get her own artifact...unfortunately there wasn't a magic circle drawn on the ground at the time so it only resulted in a confused Negi.

* MesACrowd: Through use of her artifact, Haruna makes a bunch of copies of herself to help draw doujinshi more quickly.
* MsViceGirl: Yes, she helps the hero with almost unstoppable enthusiasm and bravery and is capable to show unlimited affection to her closest friends Nodoka and Yue. BUT she also is a damn busybody.
* MundaneUtility: Using her clones to finish her drawings.

* PowerPerversionPotential: She loves exploiting her artifact. She makes a kissing golem with a 23 cm tongue and a "[[BitchInSheepsClothing Dark Nodoka]]." Nodoka seems to have stopped her plans for making an Ero Nodoka though.

* ShoutOut: Imperium Graphices is suspiciously close to a Latin translation of ''[[VideoGame/GraffitiKingdom Rakugaki Oukoku]]'', a video game about -- you guessed it -- bringing drawings to life.
* TearsOfJoy: When The Paru-Sama [[spoiler:briefly crashes in the Real World in Chapter 323 and she gets to see some of her classmates after a ''very long'' time.]]
* TokenEvilTeammate: She's one of the less evil examples, but she seems completely uninterested in the actual goals of the group or helping people. She's also quite fond of making people look stupid and her long term goals include taking over the Magic World. She's friends with Yue and Nodoka, which is basically the whole reason she's in the group: They failed to keep the secret from her and she forced her way in.
* ToThePain: Not only does Haruna ''tell'' Nodoka, Yue, and Konoka how she's going to torture them for not sharing about Negi, she has ''sketches''!
* TownGirls: The Butch to Yue's Neither and Nodoka's Femme.

Doo doo doo.

* AccidentalKiss: Her pactio. Ignoring the bit where Yue [[InvokedTrope clearly tripped her]].

* ArmorPiercingSlap: Slaps Yue when she's freaking out about also liking Negi in order to make her calm down and listen.
* AttackHello: Intercepts Haruna with a book when she's making perverse copies of Nodoka.
* BadassBoast: Delivers a big one during her first encounter with [[spoiler:[[RealityWarper Dynamis]], and after grabbing the latter's copy of the Code of the Lifemaker]]. What made it all the more impressive is the fact that she is one of the weakest members of the party, and yet pulled it off almost without a hitch.
-->'''Nodoka:''' "I am Miyazaki Nodoka, Treasure Hunter and member of Ala Alba. [[LetsGetDangerous My counterattack starts here]]."
* CatchPhrase: When you have a magic book that lets you mindread anyone who's name you know, "What is your name?" becomes pretty badass.

* FalseStart: She attempts a confession a few times before getting halted, but eventually gets it out. Unfortunately, she did it too early in the series.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfWoman: She slaps Yue to make her stop babbling incoherently about her guilt in liking Negi.
* GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger: When she activates ''Comptina Daemonia'' to find out [[IKnowYourTrueName the names of her adversaries]]. Something awesome usually occurs immediately after.

* IKnowYourTrueName: ''Comptina Daemonia'', an artifact she acquired during her stay in Mundus Magicus, was designed for this purpose. It will tell the true name of any person so long as she asks them for it.

* JumpedAtTheCall: Her Pactio was accidental, but her very first thought after discovering Diarium Ejus and seeing Negi in trouble was to use it to help him. Also, after the gang got separated in the Mundus Magicus, instead of angsting about it like everyone else, she joined up with a band of adventurers and sought two magical items that could give her Diarium Ejus a massive powerup, knowing the time will come when Negi will finally need her help.
* LetsGetDangerous: When Dynamis attacks her group and [[spoiler:erases Craig and Aisha]] Nodoka uses the opportunity to catch him unaware, [[spoiler:steal his key and teleport to safety.]]
-->'''Nodoka:''' "You made the mistake... of thinking of me as a mere powerless girl, Mr. Mage... [[GivingSomeoneThePointerFinger WHAT IS]] [[PreAssKickingOneLiner YOUR NAME?!]]"

* MarilynManeuver: Nodoka's skirt gets poofed up thanks to a wind spell, leading her to try really hard to hold it down.
* MarryThemAll: A joke was made halfway through the manga about Nodoka considering a three way relationship with Yue and Negi to be an ideal solution.
* MindOverManners: Her ability is limited to just mind reading, but it's specifically noted that she's probably the one with said artifact simply because she's the one least likely to abuse it.

* RescueRomance: Starts crushing on Negi after he saves her from falling down the stairs in the library.

* TakingTheBullet: She gets hit by a time displacement bullet that was targeted at Negi since she would be no use for the rest of the fight.
* ThrowTheBookAtThem: Smacks Haruna with a book when the latter keeps making perverse clones.
* TownGirls: The Femme to Yue's Neither and Haruna's Butch.
* UpgradeArtifact: Turns out Nodoka is a munchkin. While with a party of adventurers, she picks up a couple pieces of magical gear that allow her to know anyone's name and hear the thoughts written on her mind reading book rather than having to read it.

* WhatWouldXDo: Asks herself what Yue, Haruna or Negi would do when she's under attack by the bounty hunters.

I really doubt all the idiot hairs in this series have any consistent meaning. Whatever. Only a few characters left then.

* AngerBornOfWorry: Her reaction after Negi passed the Magic Erebea [[TrainingFromHell initiation training]].

* ArmorPiercingSlap: She slaps [[spoiler:a rampaging Negi]] to get him to shut up and listen.

* CryCute: After [[spoiler:Jack's supposed "death"]].

* DefeatMeansFriendship: She becomes inseparable from Chachamaru after their big hacking showdown at the climax of the Mahora Festival. Chisame technically won but it was too late to affect the final outcome, to her great frustration.

* DudeHesLikeInAComa: She tries to get her pactio kiss while Negi is asleep, but he wakes up in the middle of it and she has to do it the normal way. (Although she covers his eyes)
* DynamicEntry: Pretty good at this.

* ExtremeGraphicalRepresentation: Her artifact lets her actually enter the computer system, Tron style, for super-hacking. Some of the extreme graphics include viruses that look like jellyfish, MagicalGirl anti-virus programs which she leaves her Ayaka and Makie during Mahorafest, and ClothingDamage to represent data being destroyed.

* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan:
** Stops [[spoiler:Negi from killing Godel,]] which would have ruined any credibility he had left with the Senate.
** She does it again when [[spoiler:Negi thought he stabbed Shiori, but this time he goes into a coma]].

* HackerCave: Her {{Magitek}} pactio item can create a perfect hacking space for her inside a Tron-like area complete with surrounding screens, numerous floating keyboards and seven electronic helpers. Her own room surrounded by monitors probably also counts.
* HarshWordImpact: When she tries to cling to [[spoiler:Yuuna being normal]] Takane contradicts her with ''It's the truth!'', a statement which seems to impale her.
* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: When asked about how she feels about Negi.
* {{Hikikomori}}: Left to her own devices she stays inside all day on the internet. [[spoiler:Gets worse post university.]]
* HollywoodHacking: Averted -- however [[ExtremeGraphicalRepresentation flashy]] Sceptrum Virtuale may be, Chisame never does something a real-life hacker wouldn't do. She still does [[RapidFireTyping type unreasonably quickly]] and on two keyboards at once, though.

* MegatonPunch: Used on Negi sometimes.

* MundaneUtility: Chisame used her Artifact to make herself the #1 Internet Idol.

* OddFriendship: She tends to yell at Jack Rakan a lot, but the two get along rather well.

* SayItWithHearts: While freaking out in the middle of the jungle, she narrates the events with her cheerful Chiu attitude including taking a picture of herself holding up a massive insect, complete with a super happy face with a heart in her mouth.
* ShowerOfAwkward: Walks in on Jack bathing. He's unconcerned, she freaks.

* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: Sceptrum Virtuale gives her [[ExtremeGraphicalRepresentation Super Hacking Powers]], which is cool in theory, but it requires electronics to work, meaning her staff can and does ''run out of batteries'' while she's in Mundus Magicus, where electronics are rare.

* AffectionateNickname: Setsuna calls her "Kono-chan" sometimes, but soon goes back to calling her ojou-sama, to Konoka's chagrin. (To clarify, -chan is used informally, ojou-sama is formal. Sort of like saying you can call someone by their first name in English instead of addressing them as Mr/Mrs/Miss)
* AlmostKiss: With Setsuna for a Pactio.
* ArrangedMarriage: Her grandfather frequently tries to set her up with various older suitors, but she skips the meetings.
* BattleCouple: She indicates an intention of becoming Setsuna's pactio master, though the event itself keeps getting postponed.

* BigDamnKiss: [[spoiler:Her Pactio with Setsuna broke the current series pactio length record..]]
* BigFancyHouse: In Kyoto her family owns a massive estate bordering on a palace.
* BrickJoke: She once made a joke that [[NightmareFuelStationAttendant she can't heal someone when]] [[ChunkySalsaRule their head gets splattered.]] A few chapters later, Ala Alba is falling from the sky.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: She and Setsuna were childhood friends, though they grew apart after Konoka fell in the river and Setsuna blamed herself for it. After the Kyoto arc, they renew their friendship and begin edging towards a romance.

* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Everyone knows about her relationship with Setsuna, but unlike Setsuna she doesn't deny it.
* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: She's a princess of sorts due to her family position, but in modern times nobody cares much about the nobility.
* FingerSuckHealing: Does this to Setsuna.
* ForgotFlandersCouldDoThat: Given how most adaptations (and the later chapters of the manga) focus more on her being Negi and Asuna's roommate and her relationship with Setsuna, some fans tend to forget that she is also a member of the Library Exploration Club. (It does show up in the attendance list)

* HideYourLesbians: Konoka and Setsuna are ''heavily'' implied to be lesbians or bisexuals, but it is never stated outright. * InterClassRomance: With Setsuna; she's a princess and Setsuna is an adopted bodyguard.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Setsuna, since Setsuna is a half bird-demon.
* IntimateHealing: Flabellum Euri allows her to heal any injuries someone sustained in the last three minutes. While she works her magic, she disembodies, [[OutOfClothesExperience and her naked astral form]] hugs the patient in a decidedly languorous way.

* JapanesePronouns: "Uchi", used by the girls of the Kansai area.

* LadyAndKnight: The Lady to Setsuna's Knight. Lampshaded several times.

* MagicDance: Most her healing magic involves dances.

* NotWhatItLooksLike: After Asuna wakes up from a dream where [[spoiler:she remembered her time with Ala Rubra]], she stumbled across Setsuna and Konoka in the middle of making a pactio. Given that the {{UST}} had begun to escalate at this point, all Asuna sees is her roommate about to kiss her friend and bodyguard. Note that while Setsuna totally panics when Asuna comes, Konoka isn't the least bit flustered.

* RescueRomance: Her rescues by Setsuna give her a chance to be extra affectionate.
* SayItWithHearts: Her speech bubbles have hearts in them when she's in a particularly good mood.

* ShootTheMedicFirst: During the Gateport incident, after everyone's artifacts are returned Fate immediately attacks Konoka to prevent her from healing Negi.
* ShutUpKiss: [[spoiler:Konoka does this to Setsuna for their Pactio when the latter was stammering like she usually does around the former.]]

* SweetheartSipping: With Negi. Mostly played with since she's more of a sister figure to him.

* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Between Setsuna and herself, she's the girly girl one while Setsuna is fairly androgynous.
* UnluckyThirteen: Her Pactio Card number.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With [[LesYay Setsuna]]. [[spoiler:Eventually resolved offscreen in the last few chapters.]]

* WillTheyOrWontThey: She has ongoing ShipTease with Setsuna that nevergoes anywhere [[spoiler: until the end, where it's implied but not stated that they marry offscreen.]]

She is Sayo's best friend and the two formed a partnership of sorts due to Sayo being almost completely undetectable, making her a great spy.

* IntrepidReporter: Her interest in revealing Negi as a mage is what kicks off her involvement in the plot.

* VictoriasSecretCompartment: She's kept both Chamo and Sayo in her cleavage.

* ADayInTheLimelight: Chapter 166 is a NoDialogueEpisode, as a nod to her role as TheQuietOne. She helps Negi retrieve his casting focus ring. She has another one in the brief calm after the Ball where she speaks to Negi about Makie, Ako and Yuuna.
* EleventhHourSuperpower: She only concludes a Pactio in the very last volume, and there is no longer any serious threat to fight by that time so it's only PlayedForLaughs.
* GodivaHair: She bumps into Negi at the bath while swimming around. Her hair covers anything too important.
* GoGoEnslavement: She, Ako, and Natsumi are forced to wear {{Meido}} outfits and shock collars after selling themselves into slavery.
* IKnowMaddenKombat: Uses her skills as a swimmer in a dodgeball game.
* MadeASlave: She, Ako, and Natsumi sell themselves into slavery shortly after their arrival in the Magical World to pay for a very ill Ako's expensive medicine.
* MatchmakerCrush: She's heavily implied to be attracted to Negi herself but is more interested in her friends getting a shot. Chamo insinuates this in Chapter 348, which she [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial tries to deny]].
* {{Meido}}: While working as a slave, she's basically a maid and has appropriate attire.
* NiceGirl: One of the nicest and kindest characters in the series.
* NotQuiteTheRightThing: She can't bring herself to tell Ako that Nagi and Negi are the same person for fear of hurting her and destroying her emotional supports. [[spoiler:Ako finds out about it on her own after she's had time to grow much more attached to Nagi, meaning she's much more hurt than if Akira had just told Ako or let Chisame do it.]]
* TheQuietOne: Early on. She became less quiet during the Magic World arc. Heck, there was one chapter told from her perspective, and it didn't have a line of dialogue.
* RapunzelHair: Her hair is easily waist length. You'd think that as a swimmer it would get in the way.
* SeashellBra: In her pactio outfit she has a seashell bra as part of the mermaid theme.
* SelectiveObliviousness: Minor example. She figures out that "Nagi" is Negi almost instantly because of Kotaro's magical disguise and Negi referring to Ako as his student, but can be seen stopping herself from thinking or asking about it because the implications are pretty bad. She's not very good at lying to herself, however.
* ShipperOnDeck: Pushes Negi into having a pactio with Ako, Makie and Yuuna so the first two get a chance to kiss him and that he'll take the third more seriously.
* SlaveCollar: After selling herself into slavery. It can apply a shock if her owner desires, but they're not supposed to and can get in legal trouble for it. Or in literal Mama Bear trouble.
* StatuesqueStunner: One of the tallest and oldest looking girls.
* TeamMom: She helps keep order among the stowaway girls due to being the only really mature one of the bunch.
* TeleportersAndTransporters: [[spoiler:Her pactio allows her to teleport through water for distances of up to three hundred meters at once. This does not have any kind of mana cost, allowing her to use it [[TeleportSpam rapidly]] and without tiring.]]
* YamatoNadeshiko: She's quiet, supportive and surprisingly strong willed.
* YoungerThanSheLooks: She looks at least five years older than her actual age.
