** He can't make people talk (which is why he had to make Midoriya walk out of bounds, rather than say "I give up") or do other things that require using their cognitive functions (i.e. "write down the frog girl's name" -- even if the person knows who Tsuyu Asui is, they can't make the connection while brainwashed). This also means that contrary to a spectating pro hero's suggestion during the sports festival, his Quirk can't be used for interrogation or information gathering.

* BlessedWithSuck: His Permeation Quirk was this before he learned how to manage the downsides. Sure, he can NoSell any attack... but he also loses all his senses and would fall through the ground. His dad even warned him not to become a hero because he could hurt himself with the Quirk.

As well, he gets a chance to transfer into the Hero Course himself after several months of training, so the point could be better said that people like him are stuck working twice as hard as those who lucked out at the entrance exam.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Shinso's rematch with Midoriya during the joint training [[OvershadowedByAwesome still largely goes in Midoriya's favor]], even with Monoma's assistance. Despite all of Shinso's [[TookALevelInBadass offscreen training]], Midoriya by that point has experienced multiple life-or-death battles and has multiple internships under his belt. This is best illustrated when Shinso tries to escape using the Binding Cloth that Aizawa trained him to use, but then Midoriya manages to close in on him in a matter of seconds.

* MarshmallowHell: Her landing on top of Midoriya after an explosion nearly results in him being smothered by her hefty endowments by accident. [[ClingyJealousGirl Uraraka]] is ''[[TranquilFury not]]'' pleased.

* CrashIntoHello: Technically, it's her second meeting with Midoriya, but when the latter attempts to enter the Support Department Classroom, she sets off an explosion and ends up landing on top of him.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: The trio seems to be incapable of even giving a simple explanation for how the internship system works ([[SociallyAwkwardHero Tamaki]] gets shy, [[ConstantlyCurious Nejire]] is constantly distracted, and [[BoisterousBruiser Mirio]] wants to start a fight). They are, nonetheless, the best students in U.A., all of their on-site skills also show them to be capable heroes, despite being only interns (Nejire particularly got herself an internship with the 9th ranked hero, while Mirio works under one of All Might's former sidekicks).
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: To say they are peculiar and [[{{Pun}} quirky]] would be an understatement. Each have their own thing: Nejire asks questions that often verge on nonsense, Tamaki imagines people as potatoes due to his overt shyness, and Mirio presents himself by freaking Midoriya out and showing his own face through a wall.

* FighterMageThief: Mirio is the physically strongest and more combat efficient as the fighter, Nejire is more used to having a long range advantage and is more distant as the mage, and Tamaki's multiple unusual tricks and quiet nature make him the Thief.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: Negire is the only one with ranged attacks. Tamaki’s really only just gives him an edge in martial combat, while Mirio’s has no direct combat capability whatsoever.

* SenpaiKohai: They are the Senpais to Class 1-A, and each seem to have taken at least one 1-A student under their wing. Mirio does this with Midoriya, Nejire with Uraraka and Tsuyu, and Tamaki with Kirishima. All of them got their Kohais internships.

* NoIndoorVoice: Hatsume has a lack of volume control, yelling everything instead of speaking at a normal volume,

* NoSocialSkills: Because she spends most of her free time making new inventions, she has ended up with poor social skills with other students. Not helping matters is that [[AttentionDeficitOohShiny she also has a short attention span]] concerning subjects that bore her.

* [[OpportunisticBastard Opportunistic Bitch]]: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. She's not an awful person and will never do anything to purposely hurt other people, but she ''is'' a consumate opportunist and she ''will'' trick people into showing off her inventions if it gets her publicity. Iida finds this out the hard way when she makes him think she's going to play fair by giving him gadgets to use along with hers in their match, only to use the entire match to pitch her inventions. However, once her presentation is complete, she willingly forfeits the match, allowing Iida to move up.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Hatsume is rather tactless, saying whatever she thinks regardless of social appropriateness. She also is quite energetic, going from one topic to another, especially in regards to her inventions, which she seems to be utterly obsessed with. Furthermore, she doesn't remember Iida the second time they meet, implying an unwillingness or inability to remember faces. Hatsume also has a lack of volume control, yelling everything instead of speaking at a normal volume, alongside a very idiosyncratic use of words, such as calling her inventions "babies."

* {{Foil}}:
** To Midoriya. Both want to be heroes and have their limitations. While Midoriya was naturally Quirkless, Shinso has a Quirk, but it can't be used for battle and is considered by people as an "evil" Quirk. Also, while Midoriya is TheParagon and tries to inspire people to follow him, Shinso is closer to a PragmaticHero, seeing use in simply manipulating others with his Quirk to achieve success in his plans.
** Also one to Gentle Criminal. Gentle wanted to become a hero but wasn't competent enough in comparison to other heroes, despite owning a very powerful Quirk that could easily have qualified him. And since he couldn't make it as a hero, he chose to be a villain instead, albeit a rather unthreatening one, in order to be recognized. Hitoshi on the other hand owns a Quirk that could very easily be used for nefarious purposes but he refused early on to use it that way and chose to fight on, no matter how hard things may get on his way to becoming a hero.

* TookALevelInBadass: In this past, Mirio was a mediocre student at best and often struggled, as indicated by his performance at the Sports Festival. However, Sir Nighteye willingly took him in for internships with the intent of him being All Might's successor and the results speak for themselves as he's considered to be the best amongst U.A.'s three best Third Years in the heroic department.
