Originally created and led by the notorious villain Destro years ago, the Meta Liberation Army was a large, powerful organization who believed using their Quirks should be a fundamental human right and that society is wrong in attempting to regulate Quirk usage, resorting to terrorism to make their point. Eventually, they were defeated and Destro was arrested, causing the group to disband. While in prison, Destro released his manifesto to the world before killing himself in his jail cell. Unbeknownst to the police and even Destro himself, Destro had a child. That child, Rikiya Yotsubashi, a.k.a. "Re-Destro", leads a modern incarnation of the Meta Liberation Army and intends to carry out his father's ideology. Under his new leadership, the Army has expanded to currently hold allegedly more than 116,000 soldiers.

* TheLeader: Deconstructed. At first, Re-Destro appears to be the ideal embodiment of the various qualities that go into making a good leader, especially when compared to the seemingly slipshod way that Shigaraki runs his operation. However, because the way Meta Liberation Army rigidly revolves around the CultOfPersonality built around it's leaders, Re-Destro's subordinates are so [[BlindObedience lacking in initiative]] that when they come up against the much smaller organised but infinitely more resourceful [[BadassCrew League of Villains]], what should be an overwhelming victory slowly gets dragged out into a war of attrition. Similarly, because of the constant pressure to try and live up to the image of the perfect leader since childhood, Re-Destro has come to find the role suffocating and stressful to the point that [[spoiler: it contributes heavily to his decision to hand over leadership of the MLA to Shigaraki]].

* AFatherToHisMen: Despite believing their [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans sacrifice to be neccesary]], he openly mourns for his fallen supporters and even [[{{Fingore}} mutilates Shigaraki's hand]] for his part in their deaths.

* DirtyBusiness: Sheds TearsOfRemorse after killing Miyashita and is seen looking morose afterward on his way to a meeting with other members of the Liberation Army. He also cries over the many Deika City citizens that die during their fight with the [=LoV=], though he believes that his the MLA's goals outweigh the lives of any individual member.

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: He tries to use his puppets to kill the unconscious Toga as to [[spoiler:avenge Curious]] and capture a psychologically broken Twice so that he can be inducted into the Meta Liberation Army. [[spoiler:Because he had his puppets break Twice’s arms, he gave Twice the revelation he needs to confirm that he’s the ''real'' Twice and not just a clone. That uncertainty was the only thing holding Twice back from unleashing his true strength, and without it, there's nothing stopping him from going all out.]]

* RedShirtArmy: Yes, they are a highly-trained personal militia for the Meta Liberation Army, and put up one challenging fight against the League through the sheer numbers and diversity of Quirks they possessed alone, while fully expendable. But the ''moment''[[spoiler:Gigantomachia enters the battlefield]], they might as well have been ''ants'' instead.

* DevilInPlainSight: They're able to operate under the collective noses of hero society by virtue of being comprised of seemingly respectable citizens.

* NiceHat: Seen wearing a black Cordovan while on his way to meet with the rest of the Liberation Army's top brass during his first appearance.

* BlindingBangs: His bowl cut has bangs that cover his eyes.

* PoweredArmor: [[spoiler:The '''Burden-Amplifying Steel Pressure Mechanism:''' '''''Claustro''''' is the Detnerat product he is in possession of and his last-ditch effort to defeat his enemies. The armor wraps around Re-Destro's bulked up form and amplifies his Stress output ''[[UpToEleven to 150%]]'' via forcibly constricting and impaling his body to provide the necessary stimulus. To bad for him it does nothing against Shigaraki, who effortlessly destroys the armor once he unleashes a blast of Decay strong enough to disintegrate most of Deika City.]]

** Like previous {{Arc Villain}}s [[KnightTemplar Stain]] and [[TheStrategist Overhaul]] before him, Re-Destro serves as a counterpoint to [[BigBad Shigaraki]] to show the next roadblock to his story of becoming the ultimate villain. Re-Destro is a VisionaryVillain to the latter's {{omnicidal|Maniac}} [[StrawNihilist nihlism]] -- which has allowed him to build an enormous following in comparison to the modest membership of the League. Adding to this, both Re-Destro and Shigaraki were raised to carry on the legacy of past villains who have fallen out of public view, but while Re-Destro is well aware of his heritage and considers it a point of pride, Shigaraki suffers from TraumaInducedAmnesia and can barely remember his life before meeting All For One. Adding further to this, both use destruction to get what they want, but while Re-Destro considers his destruction meaningful and necessary to further the MLA's goals, Shigaraki destroys for his own pleasure and has no goals to destroy for.
** He’s also one to the previous ArcVillain Overhaul. Overhaul maintained a cold, aloof demeanor, while Re-Destro is an AffablyEvil NiceGuy. Overhaul hid his face, while Re-Destro doesn't wear a real mask or even have much of a villain costume. Overhaul was an openly [[TerrifiedOfGerms germaphobic]] [[MisanthropeSupreme misanthrope]], while Re-Destro [[DissonantSerenity generally keeps a tight lid]] [[TranquilFury on any negative emotions towards others]]. Overhaul tried to form an alliance with the League of Villains despite their differences, while Re-Destro seeks to destroy the League of Villains from the get-go. [[spoiler:Said alliance ended up being part of Overhauls undoing, while Re-Destro's planned destruction of the [=LoV=] ends with him partnering with them.]] Overhaul despised Quirks enough to attempt to rid them from society, while Re-Destro believes that Quirks should be celebrated rather than suppressed and controlled. While both have little issue with their subordinates dying, Overhaul commanded his through [[TheMobBossIsScarier fear]] and [[TheCorrupter manipulation]], and he had no issue with killing them when they failed. Meanwhile, Re-Destro is AFatherToHisMen who at least cries over his fallen supporters, and it took noticeable effort for him to go through with killing his secretary. Overhaul's [[{{Yakuza}} organization]] quickly drew the attention of Pro Heroes due to their [[ObviouslyEvil suspicious activities]], while [[DevilInPlainSight Re-Destro and the army have managed to stay below radar]]. [[spoiler:While both of the villains are kept alive, Overhaul has his arms forcibly taken by Shigaraki & Mr. Compress due to the [[PayEvilUntoEvil killing of Magne & doubting the League]]. Re-Destro ends up cutting his feet off by choice (due to the fact that he'd [[MakeThemRot decay to death otherwise]]), and the resulting scenario was an accident (Shigaraki was merely attacking him to weaken him enough for [[TheJuggernaut Gigantomachia]] to kill).]]. [[spoiler:In addition, while Overhaul has his life's work forcibly taken from him by Shigaraki in an act of [[{{Revenge}} revenge]], Re-Destro willingly gives Shigaraki control over the MLA due to Shigaraki being a better leader to the Army than he himself is.]]

* {{Hypocrite}}: Despite working for an organization which is all about uplifting people with Quirks and allowing them to use their powers to its fullest potential, Trumpet dismisses Spinner during their fight -- bluntly referring to his Quirk as weak and the latter himself as seeming incapable of changing for the better in any way.

* LogicalWeakness: While it may seem as such, his Quirk isn't anything resembling {{Brainwash}}ing, being effectively a Power Up given to people willing to follow his orders. In short, while his charisma certainly benefits him in this regard, his Quirk is practically useless if a command or order he gives goes against the wishes of those he's commanding, [[spoiler: as shown when Shigaraki prevents the Army members from attacking to save Re-Destro with his Quirk's empowerment by flashing a SlasherSmile that scares them out of attacking.]]

* HairTriggerTemper: He gets worked up fairly frequently and over things that most people would find insignificant, to the point of having veins popping up around he corners of his eyes.

* InsufferableGenius: He's a pretty intelligent guy who berates others for using ParrotExposition.
