* MumLooksLikeASister: Grandmother in this case. She actually claims to be Elma's older sister when she's first introduced and even demands that Elma refer to her as such.

** He also does this voluntarily in Chapter 97 of the main series to act as TheBeard whenever Takiya's parents come to visit, though that form is much closer in appearance to his usual one.

* TheBeard: Since Takiya has no real interest in romance, he has Fafnir transform into a woman whenever his parents come over so they won't try to pressure him into getting married.

* PurelyAestheticGlasses: She wears computer glasses while at work despite having supernaturally acute vision.

* BigSisterAttraction: Chapter 137 reveals that she's fallen in love with Lucoa in spite (or rather, because of) their little incident.

* AdaptationInducedPlotHole: In the original mythology, Fafnir is consumed by a cursed ring and so filled with evil and greed that he transforms into a wingless dragon who forever guards his treasure hoard. However, while mentioned in the series, he's apparently not concerned with his hoard and prefers just being an {{otaku}} and amateur {{mangaka}}.

* FeatheredSerpent: Her true form is a dragon with broad feathered wings. It's to be expected, seeing as she's the story's depiction of the TropeNamer.

* SexShifter: She can become male, and perform the swap freely enough to restore her original gender exactly when she wants

* AmbiguousSituation: What exactly Elma's feelings for Tohru are is a bit ambiguous and later becomes the center of an entire arc. It's strongly hinted that she may be in love with Tohru, and there is even a running joke during the aformentioned arc about polygamy, but when full on asked Elma states she wants to be as close to her as Kobayashi but also to be different and not interfere with Tohru and Kobayashi's relationship. At the same time, however, Elma also seems to have something for Kobayashi herself, even looking like she's playing DoggedNiceGuy at some points towards her.

While she still doesn't put up the barrier without being bribed in the anime, she does cast a spell to remove all human bystanders from the area without prompting.

* AxCrazy: His very first line in the series (on the subject of being a guard) is "Kill them. Kill all who try to steal your treasure. Kill all who are suspect. Curse them with death. * ShooOutTheClowns: She always has a tendency to disappear when something big is about to happen in the main manga. Like for instance when Ilulu shows up in Chapter 30, Lucoa has gone off to another country on a trip, and doesn't return until Chapter 33.

* SoProudOfYou: [[spoiler:She starts referring to Shouta as "Master" when he defends her honor after a bully disrespects her in front of him, denoting that she accepts him and considers him completely worthy of her being his "familiar"]].

* GoodFeelsGood: Her fairy ancestry leaves her with an inate desire to help people, with that insinct becoming stronger the more work she has to do. She describes the life of being a modern day {{Salaryman}} as perfect for someone like her.

* AngerBornOfWorry: The reason she quarrels with Tohru for most of the manga is because [[spoiler:they were close friends before Tohru disappeared without even giving her a peep. Tohru used to disdain human contact and went through great lengths to convince Elma to distrust humans; Elma found it very hypocritical of her when she found out that Tohru was openly living with a human as if nothing had happened. As such, Elma is offended at the fact that Tohru practically abandoned her]].

** The biggest example comes from when Elma challenges Tohru to a fight. The two spend most of it barely holding back and shattering the landscape around them, all while also having an intense verbal argument. At the end, Elma breaks down and admits that she's missed being friends with Tohru, and that she was scared thinking Tohru had been killed prior to becoming a maid. Tohru is completely taken aback by this, and decides to try and reconcile with Elma.

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Elma is a harmony dragon who is often clueless, easily tricked, bribe-able with snack food, and stranded on Earth. However, she's also noted to be Tohru's equal. The relevant power level of this aspect isn't shown until Ilulu and Clemene appear and show how Tohru (and by extension, Elma) eclipse other dragons in might. Hell, even arrogant {{Jerkass}} Clemene refers to her as "Elma-sama", showing her status among harmony dragons.

** The trope is also subverted entirely when it comes to [[spoiler:Tohru herself, who Elma is implied more strongly to be in love with. Due in part to their past, she's dispensed with most niceties, and their relationship is purely vitriolic.]]

Unlike with Tohru, she keeps these feelings bottled up and [[StepfordSmiler hides it behind a smile]], only making her true desires known to her family when she's seconds away from being forced into an ArrangedMarriage.]]

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The fan translation of the manga spells his name as either "Cremene" or "Kuremene". The official subs for the anime also use "Cremene", but the Seven Seas translation of the manga uses "Clemene".

* {{Bokukko}}: Despite being female -- and '''extremely''' feminine-looking at that -- she refers to herself in Japanese with "''boku''", [[UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns a masculine pronoun]]. Possibly a reference to the fact that her namesake is male in the original Aztec mythology.

* BoobsOfSteel: Before Ilulu arrived she had the largest breasts of the cast, and appears to be the most powerful. When arm wrestling with Tohru, Lucoa was initially winning easily without even giving a lot of effort, until Shouta distracted Lucoa by cheering for Tohru thanks to a bribe she promised him.

* BoobsOfSteel: She rivals Tohru in power, and is similarly well-endowed to match, having even slightly bigger breasts.

* CharacterTics: She always leaves the outermost layer of her clothing open at the front (presumably due to the [[BoobsOfSteel size of her breasts]]).
