* ShadowArcheype: Of X. One of X's defining traits is his inability to reconcile his pacifist nature with the reality of the fighting and killing he has to do to achieve peace. Double exaggerates this with his two forms: One is clumsy, meek, and useless; the other is evil, AxCrazy, and a very potent combatant. Double is literally both sides of X's personality brought to negative extremes.

* {{Wimpification}}: Happens mostly to X in fan works, because he's a peace-loving ReluctantWarrior[=/=]TechnicalPacifist who has a moral conflict, and is quite {{angst}}y about it. Remember that, despite all of them, he's still have a strong will to defeat his enemies.

* PowerBlonde

Introduced as a rookie Hunter in ''X4'', this little fat yellow reploid (whose Irregular/Maverick name is Jello Man) acts as X's MissionControl and seems [[NotSoHarmless completely harmless]]...until it is [[TheReveal revealed]] that he was a Maverick working for Sigma all along, with a much more sinister second form.

* MotiveDecay: Sigma was once a [[InformedAbility (probably) charismatic]] revolutionary. Upon turning Maverick, his initial goal was for the Reploids to reign over mankind (akin to [[XMen Magneto]]) before he became obsessed with the defeat of the heroes.

* PatientZero: He (and arguably Sigma) was the very first robot to get infected by the Maverick Virus (stated to be leaking out from Zero's hibernation capsule). Subverted in that he's TheImmune (see said entry above), but he is indirectly the source of the other viral infections of the series - See also "TyphoidMary" below.

* WeCanRebuildHim: After he died in the first game, the second had the X-Hunters rebuild him, or at least the parts of it - which X had to steal for the Maverick Hunters to rebuild him.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Zero was originally intended to have his own Ultimate Armor in ''X4''. It was also implied
that the design of the armor dealt with his connection to Dr. Wily. However, it was ultimately cut, replaced with the Palette Swap known as the Zero Armor/Black Zero.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: The ending of ''X6'' left his fate rather ambiguous. Was he spared by Alia and restored? Or did she

He has a simpler-looking design than most bosses, but he is literally described as having unlimited potential, and throughout his series, developed abilities that were previously seen after he picked up armor parts or health upgrades; it's like the concept of Weapon Copy was taken to its logical conclusion and turned into an Ability Copy. Justified, he's a SuperPrototype.

He has a simpler-looking design than most bosses, but he is literally described as having unlimited potential, and throughout his series, developed abilities that were previously seen after he picked up armor parts or health upgrades; it's like the concept of Weapon Copy was taken to its logical conclusion and turned into an Ability Copy. Justified, he's a SuperPrototype.

* {{Expy}}/ShoutOut: He's quite obviously based on {{Pluto}}, from the ''AstroBoy'' comics. Appropriate, considering how the original Mega Man is often compared (and is pretty much an expy) to Astro Boy.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: Sigma, when trying to recruit General to revolt against humanity, claims that humanity will try to destroy anything that doesn't obey them completely. Come the ''VideoGame/MegaManZero'' series, as well as Weil's badass boast in ''Zero 3'', it turns out Sigma was ''right.''

* ProperlyParanoid: When trying to convince General to go maverick, he explains that humanity intends to destroy any reploid that doesn't obey them perfectly. Come the ''[[Mega Man Zero Zero]]'' series, and especially with the character of Dr. Weil, and it shows that Sigma was pretty much spot on with his assessment.
** Ironically, [[SelfFulfillingProphecy this was probably due to Reploids rebelling at the slightest provocation.]]
