* Bishounen: Just look at the kid.
* CursedWithAwesome: His bug causes a random effect whenever he uses it. Usually useful with some unnecessarily comical side-effects.
* DistressedDude: Pretty much a damsel in distress. He is literally kidnapped and dressed up as a princess by Takaoka.
* DraggedIntoDrag: Very, very often. Unfortunately for him, usually PlayedForLaughs.
* EyesAreMental: When switched with Karma his eyes stay shiny.
* FreakyFridayFlip: With Karma in episode 8. He doesn't seem to have any major problems with it until Karma decides to have some fun.
* NonActionGuy: He usually stays out of the fights and isn't strong enough to resist Nakamura and Karma dressing him up as a princess. He does have his moments, though.
* UselessSuperPowers: Played with. His bug is one of the more useful ones in the class. That is a relative term, however.

One of the protagonists and part of the legendary Three Heroes.
* TheAce: Karma is one of the Three Heroes (him, Ritsu and Itona). He's shown to be skilled with swords, traps and magic. He is considerably stronger than the majority of Class E.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Played with. This version is less violent than in the original series. In fact, he doesn't contribute much to the violence in most episodes.
* ButtMonkey: There's a running gag where nearly whenever he talks he gets hit in the head by a wahsbin. It even happens when he isn't talking.
* AwesomeMccoolName: His name's Karma Akabane. He's also called the Red Devil. Enough said.
* BlessedWithSuck: His bug's only usage gets him hit in the head, dropped into a pitfall trap or hit hard enough to send him flying.
* DarkIsEvil: Just look at his debut outfit. He's pretty much your typical villain.
* DeadpanSnarker: He is often sarcastic and contemptful. Subsequently, it activates his bug.
* EvilIsCool: He intially had a dungeon complete with traps, monsters (even slightly-smutty ones) and an overall pretty cool setting. He even had his own, unique outfit. The heroes only have regular middle-school uniforms with beige capes and below-par supplies.

* EvilOverlord: In his debut he has a whole dungeon plus a hoard of monsters all to himself. One could wonder why he joined Class E.

* IShallTauntYou: Every. Single. Line.
* HeelFaceTurn: In episode 2 he is introduced as pretty much an outright villain with no intention of joining Class E. After some words from Korosensei, he 'willingly' joins the group and 'stops' being evil.
* LighterAndSofter: This Karma doesn't come with the emotional baggage he has in the original series and never tries to commit suicide.
* UselessSuperPowers: His bug is officially an 'irregularity with [his] luck stat'. Irregular is putting it mildly. If he acts cocky or contemptful, it immediately drops to the point that he gets randomly hit with objects. Even worse, probably ninety percent of his lines are him belittling someone.
* VillainousFashionSense: He is introduced wearing a purple, long-sleeved shirt with black pants, black and white shoes and a very sinister black cape.

* ACupAngst: Is very defensive about her small chest. When bodyswapped with Yada and finally having large breasts, she announces she is never going to swap back.

* DamselInDistress: Kayano eats cursed pudding and falls into a permanent coma unless a princess kisses her.
