* OmnicidalManiac: Heavily implied to be this in the game, but never outright stated. By the end of his backstory in the novels, he wants to make everyone, in every world suffer. In the game, he gets really excited by the prospect of the Keyblade War, and the legends about it's catastrophic, universe-ending consequences.

* PunchClockVillain: Sephiroth's only interests are really in tormenting Cloud, otherwise he stays out of the conflicts of the real villains and has no interest in it. He challenges Sora to a duel in ''II'' to see if the keyblade would choose him to be it's new master if he won. After essentially fighting to a draw and coming to a conclusion that only Cloud can actually kill him, he decides to no longer fight Sora.

* BiggerBad: In a sense. Sephiroth has the strength and intelligence to be a major player in the plots of the series, if he cared to get involved in them. However, his only interest is Cloud.

** LightningBruiser: Fast as Ventus, strong as Terra, and hits like an out of control train. This trope is the main reason why fighting him as [[SquishyWizard Aqua]] is a [[ThatOneBoss living hell]].
** SwordBeam: Fires crescent wave of energy from his blade as a combo finisher. Also during the final battles with him, he'll fire an x-shaped SwordBeam as well.
** WaveMotionGun: His Dark Cannon attack, which fires a large beam of dark energy from his Keyblade.

* EldritchAbomination: He is a being of pure darkness (basically a ''pure'' Heartless) whose existence unbalances the laws of the worlds, and he is [[spoiler:the source of all Unversed]].
** HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:Played straight when Ventus's heart connects with Sora's]].

** Though the two have no direct relation or interaction as of yet, he also seems to be this for Xion. [[spoiler:Looks like a member of the Destiny Islands love triangle with black hair? ArtificialHuman? Get screwed over by Xehanort? These two are living the same life with a different X.]]

* {{Expy}}: Well let's see, his outfit is similar to Riku's Dark Mode, he takes the same battle stance as Riku, and he even dons Riku's iconic pose in the opening cinematic.

* ForTheEvulz: It's indicated that he doesn't really have or need a reason to restart the Keyblade War; he's just excited by the idea of a universal conflict, especially now that he's the guy with an InfinityPlusOneSword. The SlasherSmile he gives while revealing this to Aqua and Mickey says it all.
** [[spoiler:An alternate reason, in the novels' version of the story, is that he wanted to rejoin with Ventus, thus not being all alone anymore. However, this isn't exactly reflected in his actions; early in the story, he was perfectly willing to annihilate Ventus for being too weak, and considered Aqua a decent backup plan for forging the χ-Blade.]]

** WalkingWasteland: And he puts that power to deadly use.

* YoungerThanTheyLook: A double case. He is only 4 years old in the main events of BBS (as Ventus was 11 when Vanitas was [[ArtificialHuman created from him]] four years ago), but he has the physical body and mentality of a 15 year old. ''But'' at the same time, his 15 year old body just so happens to look at least a few years older since he is tall and muscular. The deep voice also doesn't help.

Created by Vexen and used as a tool by Vexen, Marluxia, and Larxene, and ultimately Axel. He's mistaken for the real Riku by Sora when he's sent against him, and appears to attack the real Riku as well.

* DamageSponge: As to be expected from a BonusBoss, but it's to an absolutely ridiculous level, especially in the first game. He has so many health bars, ''the game can't even keep up.'' The game shows a maximum of five health bars. Sephiroth has ''six.'' As a result, it doesn't even look like your attacks are damaging him, even though they are.

* HeyItsThatVoice: It's jarring hearing [[Franchise/{{DCAU}} Superman]] taunt you in battle.
** It's less jarring when you take into account that in his previous appearance, it was Lance Bass taunting you in battle.

This seems to be a trend [[Anime/FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren in recent]] [[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy years]] (with the exception of the hip wings). If you're being literal, he has one wing in the first game and three in the second - on the other hand, the hip-wings do make an interesting callback to his actual OneWingedAngel form.
** He does feature his signature Leitmotif, however, and in Final Mix, Sora can win a Keyblade called One-Winged Angel for beating Sephiroth (also notably the longest Keyblade in the game).
