* FairyDevilmother: In the first game, she feigns maternal affection onto Riku, acting as though she has only his best interest in mind when all he is to her is a pawn to manipulate Sora. She even gifts him the ability to control Heartless, making him more susceptible to possession by Ansem [=SoD=].

* HeelFaceTurn: Though he still proves to be a DirtyCoward in the sequel despite being the heroes' friends, much like in his home continuity.

* EvilGenius: Not conventionally, but he manages to stay a step ahead of Sora and Co. throughout Agrabah's story in the first game, and manages to lure them into a trap and keep his comeback a secret until the heroes were already in his trap in ''II''

* OneWingedAngel: Turns into a red genie in the end of ''Kingdom Hearts''' stay in Agrabah, and keeps it for ''Kingdom Hearts II''. In ''Chi'', he becomes a giant cobra, like in the original movie.

* MythologyGag: In the original film, the final battle between Simba and Scar begins with a bolt of lightning setting parts of Pride Rock ablaze. Appropriately, Scar uses both fire and lightning magic as his elements of choice in the first battle with him.

* AscendedExtra: He only appeared in about a few minutes of screentime in the original film; here, he's one of the tougher early bosses you can encounter, and is fought a fair amount of times over the series ''In Coded'' and its remake, he's a source of the Bugs in the Coliseum, and thus part of the bigger problem of the game, rather than simply being Hades' lapdog and nothing more.

* {{Retcon}}: In ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'', it was stated by Goofy that King Mickey banished Pete to another dimension, presumably for doing something ''really'' bad, and Maleficent broke him out. In ''Birth By Sleep'', however, Pete only throws a hissy fit, and ''Queen Minnie'' temporarily banishes him to another dimension "until he cools down" from what seemed to be a preparation to attack her... for ice cream. While there, Maleficent breaks him out in return for his service. This is a bit of a DubInducedPlotHole, as the Japanese script used a gender-neutral pronounce for "Majesty," so it indeed could have been Minnie or Mickey. However, then in the manga it's stated directly that King Mickey did it, and this is said by Minnie no less.

* AllThereInTheManual: The name of her raven familiar, Diablo, is only given in her film of origin, and never stated in the games so far. His journal entry for ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts3DDreamDropDistance'' just refers to him as "Maleficent's Raven".

* BlackMagic: Her bread and butter. The magic she uses tends to be unique to her, similar to Merlin, such as taking control of Terra during his trip in Enchanted Dominion.

* ColonyDrop: In her boss fight, Maleficent's attacks involve throwing meteors out at Sora and co.

* {{Determinator}}: Organization XIII kicks her ass in the fight for Hollow Bastion and the XIII Seekers of Darkness make her look like a sissy. It doesn't deter her from [[EvilIsHammy hamming it up]] and trying anyways. ''III'' seems to be setting up a return to importance after involving herself with the search for the Box and witnessing [[spoiler: Luxu revealing himself and the Foretellers returning.]]

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Downplayed with Riku. While it's clear that a lot of what she does is manipulation to have Riku go against Sora, she never lies to him, finds Kairi, gives him power and advice, and supports his growth as her protégé. While Riku rightfully has cause to doubt her, it does seem like she had a genuine fondness for him. Unfortunately, since she was a ToxicFriendInfluence, this leads him to be arrogant and also open to Ansem's DemonicPossession, which eventually leads to her final blow in the first game. Naturally, the two don't really interact all that much afterward because of their complicated history. When they do, one or the other is always a false version (real Maleficent and Data Riku, for example). The Manga expands on this point by having her infuriated when recalling how Riku (possessed by Ansem) stabbed her by surprise and defeated her when talking to Pete about his loyalty.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: When she bothers to reunite with villains involved with her cabal in the first game it's usually on amiable terms, she only abandons Oogie because his amnesia got to a point that it proved to be a liability, and is on good enough terms with Hades that he's willing to help in her search for the Black Box, even if he's no longer interested in the grand scale plans she's going for.

* EvilVsOblivion: Essentially the reason for her truce with Sora and co, since Xehanort's plans call for the utter annhilation of the known universe, something she wants to rule instead.

* MadeOfEvil: Part of the reason she keeps coming back and perseveres in-universe, alongside some WrongContextMagic and quick thinking. Riku unlocks her heart and while the power goes to her head, she does not become a Heartless, and is implied to use the moment she was struck as an opportunity to time travel and survive. She comes back less due to returning to an actual vessel and more through the memories of others, and she seems impressively connected enough to the darkness that she can tell what is about to transpire to a degree and plan ahead a bit, something not even Yen Sid has been able to sense.

* ManipulativeBitch: She played Riku like a fiddle, and even with a VillainDecay inducing lack of resources in ''[=KH2=]'', she played events to the point that she became an asset in bringing down Organization XIII, establishing herself at the top once more. ''Kingdom Hearts III'' has her and Pete disrupting the Organization's attempts to find the Box by finding them all before the Organization can and the secret ending shows that neither of them have any intention of working ''with'' the Foretellers (or, if they do, they're definitely going to screw them over at the end so that ''they'' can be on top!)

* OneManArmy: In ''Kingdom Hearts II'' she still possesses enough power over the forces of darkness that she single-handedly lays siege to Hollow Bastion, commanding thousands of Heartless to storm the world in a bid to reclaim it. It takes the combined might of Sora’s party, the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee, King Mickey, and a handful of ragtag allies like Cloud, Stitch, and the Gullwings to fend off the invading horde. And even then, the invasion doesn’t end until Organization XIII commandeers the Heartless out from under her.

* OurDragonsAreDifferent: See ScaledUp. Just as in the movie, it's a giant, black dragon with green fire.

* SavedByCanon: As ''Birth by Sleep'' is a prequel to the series, and Maleficent has already established herself as a reoccurring antagonist, she ends up getting SparedByTheAdaptation when the plot of ''WesternAnimation/SleepingBeauty'' happens within Enchanted Dominion in ''Birth By Sleep''.

* SparedByTheAdaptation: With the plot of Enchanted Dominion in ''Birth By Sleep'' is that of the movie she comes from, she is ultimately the case there due to the fact that she survives having Philip's sword lodged into her whereas it kills her in the film. Of course, as Birth By Sleep is a prequel to the first Kingdom Hearts, [[SavedByCanon her survival here is a given]].

* VillainDecay: Got a lot less threatening as a villain as the games went on. She started out as the BigBad of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'', is somewhat threatening in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'' before losing control of the Heartless to Organization XIII, botches her plan and needs to be rescued in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsCoded'' then in ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts3DDreamDropDistance'' she's quickly scared out of Disney Castle by Lea. Inverted in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'', which takes place before the original and has her still in her prime, with none of the game's three heroes being truly able to defeat her. As for ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII'', she is reduced to a background role, never interfering with the heroes or the villains, simply pursuing her research of the box and biding her time. And she actually succeeds in finding it, unbeknownst to everyone, although the box is still in possession of Luxu and the Foretellers in the epilogue.

* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Surprisingly averted for her. Provided her underlings aren't getting in the way (like amnesiac Oogie interrupting her spell to turn Santa into a heartless) , she tends to value those who are on her side even when they drop the ball and tends to let slights and fumbles go (oddly considering her motivationin her origin movie). If anything, it's ''Pete'' doing this on her behalf that works out far worse, as he goes after two of her former allies in her name.

* FromNobodyToNightmare: His past-self in the Timeless River is portrayed as a grumpy, but still morally-stable person who enjoyed captaining his steamboat and even offers to let Sora, Donald and Goofy drive his steamboat for helping save it. At some point between then and now he developed a mischievous streak and is HatedByAll to the point where Minnie had him banished to a different world entirely for it. Now he is TheDragon to an EvilSorceress and has command over an army of {{Eldritch Abomination}}s with intent of conquering the universe. [[GreenEyedMonster Odds are seeing his former first-mate become his King and a world-traveling hero had something to do with it.]]

* JerkassHasAPoint: Downplayed in ''Birth by Sleep'' when Horace asks him to fight the Unversed attacking the festival. Pete quickly says he would never survive fighting them. While he is being a coward, the series has shown that regular, untrained civilians don't really stand a chance against the Heartless and other enemy types, so Pete's fear is, on some level, understandable. What ruins Pete's argument is that the rest of his stint as Captain Justice and Dark has made perfectly clear he's a lazy, ineffectual bum, meaning he earns no sympathy for refusing to help.

* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: By the events of ''Birth by Sleep'', Pete is so selfish and stubborn, that he tries to cheat his way to get the Million Dreams award. He fails, but is told by Minnie that he actually got a few votes. He dismisses the votes in greed, causing the entire town to regret their votes and [[HatedByAll hate him]], and Minnie banishes him, finally having lost her patience after trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
* LateToTheTragedy: From his perspective, anyway. He had been out of contact with Maleficent due to being in the field, and thus only finds out a ''year'' later that she had perished.

* KnowWhenToFoldEm: He is perfectly aware of the fact that he can't really hold his own all that well against Nobodies. He's only following Maleficent because the alternative is worse. He also has to point out to her during the Battle of Hollow Bastion that their forces are no match for the Nobodies and bails, and later is wary of trying to claim the Castle That Never Was due to how close they are to the Realm of Darkness. In ''Birth by Sleep'', he was too afraid of fighting the Unversed, believing he wouldn't survive.

* MascotMook: The credits state at the end of ''II'' that Pete is one.

* {{Sadist}}: Pete becomes one after he joins Maleficent, as demonstrated when Barbossa and Scar nearly murder Sora in cold blood while he cheers them on, and when Pete himself tries to kill Donald, Goofy, Data-Riku, and Queen Minnie at separate points in ''Re:coded'' and ''3D''.

* ShooOutTheClowns: In ''Kingdom Hearts II'', Pete is a recurring villain who shows up in most Disney worlds to menace the heroes directly or to team up with the local villain, and provides a lot of levity due to constantly getting beaten, swearing vengeance after each defeat like Team Rocket. By the midpoint of the game when Organization XIII makes clear their far more dangerous intentions for the World, Pete stops appearing as the game gets more serious, only returning for the endgame.
* SoreLoser: Pete putting on a costume and pretending to be a hero in the hopes of winning the Million Dreams Award. No one is fooled, and when Pete loses to Ventus, Aqua and Terra, he throws a public tantrum and even tries to attack Queen Minnie after deciding he only wants the award. This finally gets him banished due to being HatedByAll and for trying to attack the Queen.

* UnderestimatingBadassery: Downplayed and played with. ''Sora'' manages to do this by writing him off in Hollow Bastion while talking to Leon. Pete then proceeds to ambush, trick and screw with the heroes -- as well as cause real damage when left to his own devices -- through the course of the rest of the ''Kingdom Hearts'' entries. It's played with in that, while he is not given enough credit as a villain, he's so outclassed by other villains that he's a comparative smallfry.

* UngratefulBastard: After they're saved by Data-Riku in ''coded'', both Pete and Maleficent are ingrates, but Pete is even more of one than his employer, threatening Data-Riku with a future return to slavery under him even as he is being evacuated from the Datascape. Maleficent at least showed some gratitude for the save.

* AdmiringTheAbomination: Averted, Captain Hook seems to actively consider the Heartless as the unnatural creatures that they are rather than just rank and file minions. He considers them to be a bit [[EvenEvilHasStandards merciless without proper control]] and his delivery when explaining how his hold is well guarded by them is dripping with contempt and disgust.

* CharacterFocus: Captain Hook is the only world-specific Disney villain from Maleficent's original group to appear in ''Days'', and the main story line of the world is focused on him. [[note]]Though Hades is pictured on a leaderboard in Olympus Coliseum.[[/note]]

* TheDriver: Implied to be Hook's role in the cabal for the villains. He is seen ferrying Riku to Kairi's location and his ship is shown to fly through in gummi space just before entering Neverland.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: As stated above and below, he kinda thinks the Heartless are too merciless without a guiding hand. With Riku, it crosses into light EveryoneHasStandards when the boy arrogantly orders him around, tells him to dump Wendy for no real reason, conjures Anti-Sora and abandons ship mid-journey. calling him a "Codfish" for all this is more than justified, even if done to partially mock Sora.

* ForgotAboutHisPowers: He had an entire crew of pirate Heartless at his command in his debut and would even call upon them in the midst of battle. In ''358/2 Days,'' he flees from every Heartless he runs into, though it's later justified since Pete is manipulating him, using his greed to create and control powerful Heartless and even try to turn the Captain himself into one.

* LargeHam: Arguably the least Hammy out of the Disney Villains, but that's not saying much. Corey Burton nails the nasally but still gravelly voice, with notable lines being his classic "BLAST THAT PETER PAN!" and "The hold is crawling with ''HEAHRTLEHSS!''"

* OnlySaneMan: Unlike the other villains in the first game, he's not power hungry and/or unhinged. He's just doing his job in the group and fulfilling requests on Maleficent's behalf. He doesn't revere the Heartless as anything more than monsters, he's not out to destroy anyone (apart from Peter Pan, who's unpleasantly childish at the best of times) or their worlds, open to letting Sora live when he has the keyblade wielder dead-to-rights, and is kind of shocked when Riku orders him to drop Wendy as dead weight.
** It's also turned and works against him too, since he's not as into conquering worlds by the time ''Days'' is happening, Pete decides to play upon his comparatively more reasonable, greedy nature to conjure up Heartless by setting up fake treasure to find.
* ThrowDownTheBomblet: Disguised as presents just like in the movie. He also lights several barrels of gunpowder in ''Chain of Memories''.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: Hades is a barrel of laughs, and is a smooth talker, but he ''is'' still the god of the dead, and he isn't afraid to show it. He legitimately scares the hell out of Pete more than ''Maleficent'' does when he's angry. And in his own domain, he can only be defeated by someone with direct divine assistance or by a fellow deity, such as Hercules. He is functionally one of the most powerful beings in the universe, the only reason he lacks any overt multi-world influence is that he's from a world of similarly powerful deities and the rest of the Greek pantheon would probably beat the crap out of him if he ''tried'' to gain any.

* SoleSurvivor: As of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIV'', the only member of Maleficent's Council from the first game outside of Maleficent herself to still be alive and active.[[note]]Oogie and Jafar were revived and killed off in ''II'', same with Ursula outside a dream apparition of her appearing in the intro of ''DDD'', while Hook's last chronological appearance in ''Days'' saw his ship destroyed by the Ruler of the Sky.[[/note]] Being the god of death has its advantages. Hades avoids becoming TheArtifact out of sheer popularity as well as recent developments granting him significance to the grander Kingdom Hearts story by revealing he knows about the Final World.
** Hades will likely be the final member of the council most players fight in ''I'' unless they skip one of Atlantica or Halloween Town, making him this on a meta level.

In ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'' he steals a heart that Jack and Finklestien create to control the Heartless, but uses their power too much and succumbs to the darkness. In ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories'', a false version created from Sora’s memories does the same thing as last time, except it's a memory potion. In ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'', he returns for real, resurrected by Maleficent so they can turn Santa Claus into a Heartless.

* EvilGenius: True, he's not altogether the smartest villain when it comes to most things, but if ''Kingdom Hearts II'' is anything to go by, he's something of a GadgeteerGenius who can reformat entire systems of machines into a battle arena and Heartless manufacturing systems.
** best portrayed in one of the few pieces of Kingdom Hearts merchandise that has Oogie in it is a Rook chess piece that has him standing on a leaning crude mechanical tower while pulling a lever.

* OptionalBoss: In ''I'', Halloween Town can be skipped if you complete Monstro and Atlantica before it, so Oogie Boogie can be safely ignored.

* AdaptationalAbomination: After his first defeat, he returns as one of the more [[EldritchAbomination eldritch]] Heartless of the franchise.

* BossAlteringConsequence: Magic is more effective than usual against him as it can stun him. Like Pete said, the magic that Sora uses is different from the magic in Barbossa's world, and therefore affects him differently.

* ImColdSoCold: His last words of "I feel... cold" are carried over from the film/

* MirrorMatch: Not to Sora, but obviously to Jack Sparrow, who is also a bomb utilizing pirate that excels in sword fighting. The only major difference is that Barbossa also carries a pistol and a gimmick on his side.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Like the rest of the characters from Port Royal, he is rendered with realistic proportions and looks like a real person, in contrast to the cartoony looks of Sora, Donald, and Goofy ([[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII initially]]).

* OptionalBoss: In the first game, since Olympus is completely optional.

One of the Titans from ''WesternAnimation/{{Hercules}}'', made entirely of ice. Hydros is fought as a {{Superboss}} in two games: it's the only challenge of the Coliseum's Gold Match in the non-Japanese versions of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'', and is the very last obstacle of the Coliseum's maze in ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsCoded Re:coded]]''. He also comes back in time for ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII''.\\

* DegradedBoss: Twice in ''BBS'' and ''III''. In the former, he’s now a standard boss, has lost many of his deadlier attacks with his existing ones toned down, and has less health. In the latter, he's even larger now, but he attacks much less frequently, has lost even more attacks, and he has FAR less health. The major threat in both cases is that he's got help; Hades in ''BBS'' and two of his fellow Titans in ''III''.

* {{Expy}}: Hades employs the "Ice Colossus", a weaker clone of the Ice Titan, in ''Birth By Sleep'' (the genuine article is still under lock and key at that point).

* ObviousRulePatch: Don't try casting Aero against it to deflect its icicles that way. It'll just start shooting bigger ones that can't be blocked for the duration of the spell.

* OptionalBoss: In ''Kingdom Hearts'', the Gold Match is an optional super boss.

Hydros is fought as a BonusBoss in two games: it's the only challenge of the Coliseum's Gold Match in the non-Japanese versions of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'', and is the very last obstacle of the Coliseum's maze in ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsCoded Re:coded]]''. He also comes back in time for ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII''.\\

* BonusBoss: In ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'', it's only fought as the only part of the optional Gold Match.

* SkippableBoss: In ''Kingdom Hearts'', the Gold Match is an optional super boss.

* SkippableBoss: The tournaments are optional meaning the player never has to fight him if they don't want to. Canonically, Sora did as the narrator in ''III'' mentions that he'd previously fought the Rock and Ice Titans before.

* FromNobodyToNightmare His past-self in the Timeless River is portrayed as a grumpy, but still morally-stable person who enjoyed captaining his steamboat and even offers to let Sora, Donald and Goofy drive his steamboat for helping save it. At some point between then and now he developed a mischievous streak and is HatedByAll to the point where Minnie had him banished to a different world entirely for it. Now he is TheDragon to an EvilSorceress and has command over an army of {{Eldritch Abomination}}s with intent of conquering the universe. [[GreenEyedMonster Odds are seeing his former first-mate become his King and a world-traveling hero had something to do with it.]]

* SoleSurvivor: As of ''Kingdom Hearts IV'', the only member of Maleficent's Council from the first game outside of Maleficent herself to still be alive and active.[[note]]Oogie and Jafar were revived and killed off in ''II'', same with Ursula outside a dream apparition of her appearing in the intro of ''DDD'', while Hook's last chronological appearance in ''Days'' saw his ship destroyed by the Ruler of the Sky.[[/note]] Being the god of death has its advantages. Hades avoids becoming TheArtifact out of sheer popularity as well as recent developments granting him significance to the grander Kingdom Hearts story by revealing he knows about the Final World.

* ManipulativeBitch: She played Riku like a fiddle, and even with a VillainDecay inducing lack of resources in ''[=KH2=]'', she played events to the point that she became an asset in bringing down Organization XIII, establishing herself at the top once more. Kingdom Hearts III has her and Pete disrupting the Organization's attempts to find the Box by finding them all before the Organization can and the secret ending shows that neither of them have any intention of working ''with'' the foretellers (or, if they do, they're definitely going to screw them over at the end so that ''they'' can be on top!)

* VillainDecay: Got a lot less threatening as a villain as the games went on. She started out as the BigBad of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'', is somewhat threatening in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'' before losing control of the Heartless to Organization XIII, botches her plan and needs to be rescued in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsCoded'' then in ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts3DDreamDropDistance'' she's quickly scared out of Disney Castle by Lea. Inverted in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'', which takes place before the original and has her still in her prime, with none of the game's three heroes being truly able to defeat her. As for ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII'', she is reduced to a background role, never interfering with the heroes or the villains, simply pursuing her research of the box and binding her time. And she actually succeeds in finding it, unbeknownst to everyone, although the box is still in possession of Luxu and the Foretellers in the epilogue.

Riku unlocks her heart and while the power goes to her head, she does not become a Heartless, an is implied to use the moment she was struck as an opportunity to time travel and survive. She comes back less due to returning to an actual vessel and more through the memories of others, and she seems impressively connected enough to the darkness that she can tell what is about to transpire to a degree and plan ahead a bit, something not even Yen Sid has been able to sense.
