* ShirtlessScene: Surprisingly lots of this with Mikey. In one episode, it's implied he'd take any and all opportunities for a strip.
* SmallNameBigEgo: In America Mikey was a nobody, but in Japan he's a huge star. Regardless he always thinks that he is much more important than he actually is, which often gets him in trouble with his friends and coworkers. Best shown in the first episode when he wastes everyone's time by not bothering to rehearse for [=LilyMu=] and instead spends all of his time partying.

* UnknownRival: He doesn't know about Lily's jealousy toward him, as he's in love with her.

The [[Anime/DragonBallZ Cell]]-like bad guy on-camera, but off-camera, he's just a large, pointy-eared, lovable, oafish moron, and Mikey's best pal.

* BewareTheNiceOnes[=/=]BewareTheSillyOnes: Because of his naïveté and child-like personality off-camera he's very easy to upset or anger if you aren't careful, he's gone on a rampage at least once or twice.

* DumbMuscle: He's basically all brawn and no brains.

* LargeHam: On and Off-Camera, though given he's an actor and his off-camera personality this is natch.

* ActionGirl: On [=LilyMu=], Lily's character is one of the main heroines and when she's not being a DamselInDistress she's a pretty competent fighter.

* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: If you're stumped at what to color any of [[MaterialGirl Lily's possessions]], just make it pink.

* HateSink: Compared to the other main characters anyway. She's meant to be the most disliked, mainly for her irrational temper and self-absorbed behavior as well as her treatment towards other characters, especially Mikey.

* NiceCharacterMeanActor: Acts as Mikey's love interest on set (he's in love with her in real life), but the real her is jealous of him stealing her thunder.

* SchoolUniformsAreTheNewBlack: As much as possible, she wears what appears to be a [[LazyArtist simplified-for-lazy-animators]] basic [[SailorFuku sailor uniform]]. It's even [[FridgeLogic weirder]] when you remind yourself that she isn't in school!

* TokenEvilTeammate: Downplayed. "Evil" might be a stretch, but she's the meanest, most volatile member of the main cast and she revels in her chances to try and get Mikey fired so she can be the star again.

* BareYourMidriff: Her character on the show has this, but off camera she's more modest.

* BoobsOfSteel: Being a children's show, they're never emphasized, but there they are.

* TeamMom: Mistuki does her best to keep the group together and stable. She's also seen gently assist Gonard in some of his dumber moments of understanding what's going on.

* {{Phonymon}}: He's a parody of Pikachu who, in the ShowWithinAShow, only speaks in PokemonSpeak.

* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: He's a purple rat thing with a gem on his stomach that's meant to parody ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}''.

* TalkingAnimal: Though it's very probable that he's a guy in a suit, Guano's costume is VERY expressive.

* DrillSergeantNasty: He's the Japanese version of this.
* EccentricMentor: Ozu will occasionally try to teach Mikey a lesson about Japan, but it's often in some sort of hilarious, demeaning way that doesn't actually fix anything.

* FunnyForeigner: He's the most stereotypical Japanese character on the show with a heavy accent and having hobbies like keeping a bonsai tree. He's also very wacky and amusing.

* ButtMonkey: Often gets subjugated to a lot of punishment by Ozu, sometimes when he's angry and sometimes when he just feels like. At one point he even gets sent to a foreign country in place of Guano to save face. Though he ends up back in Japan in the next episode with [[UnexplainedRecovery no explanation.]]

* NoIndoorVoice: He's always shouting like his volume knob is stuck on 11.
* ProfessionalButtKisser: It's right in his name. Yes Man will do anything to please Ozu and enforce his will.

* {{Leitmotif}}: Various side characters, including Socky and Ozu's twin brother Brozu, who both have hip-hop tunes play whenever they're on-screen.

The tempermental diva used to be the star of ''[=LilyMu=]'' and the biggest one in Japan, until Mikey dropped in and stole her thunder, which she totally hates him for.

* {{Expy}}: If ''Anime/DragonballZ''[='=]s Goku were an actor in Tokyo and just a little bit dumber, he'd be Gonard.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: His name looks like a portmanteau of "Gonad" and "Nard," both of which are slang terms for testicles.

* ZettaiRyouiki: She reveals a bit more, in that her stockings do not go above her knees.

The main character of the show. An enthusiastic but naive and egotistical 19-year-old American actor from Cleveland, Ohio, who wins a contest to fly to Japan and is hired to play the hero, Kappa Mikey, on the anime ''Lily Mu''.

While he always finds a way to correct his mistakes and make up for them by the end of an episode, it gets a little hard to sympathize with Mikey when it seems like he never [[AesopAmnesia learns anything.]]

* Whatever: Actually, "w'ever". First appears in ''The Good, The Bad, And The Mikey'', where he uses it as a by-product of remodeling his image as a bad boy. It stays, and he uses it so often it becomes his {{Catchphrase}}, and the other characters start using it as well.

* CloudCuckooLander: Gonard is...[[UnderStatement out there.]] Some things include challenging Guano to incredibly silly duels, the random things he says, his perception of reality and many, many more that would take all night to list.
