HypocriticalHumor: In the original ''Judgement'', when he's about to fight [[{{Superboss}} Shin Amon]], Yagami claims that duelling is against the law. Shin retorts that Yagami has no right to say that considering the things he's done over the course of the game, of which include "assault, fraud and breaking and entering".

** One of the types of jobs Yagami takes often are investigating potential adulterers, and he is {{Implied}} to have personal disdain for such individuals, with one side case in ''VideoGame/LostJudgment'' concerning the "Illegal Detective Agency" having him offering his services to a man with a mistress getting spied on by them on the behest of his wife, on the condition that he either break up with his mistress or his wife, stating that he didn't get into the detective business to help guys like him. Despite this, there's nothing in the first game stopping the player from having him date up to four women at once, and in the second game there's no option to reject confessions, meaning player actively ''can't'' stop this from happening.
** Yagami is a lawyer and thus obviously very aware of the legal system and often taunts his enemies by telling them which laws they're breaking / are about to break and what the potential penalties for them are. This is despite the fact that he ''constantly commits blatant crimes himself'' over the course of the games, both in gameplay and in story, which is sometimes {{Lampshaded}}.

** On a more serious note, in ''Lost Judgment'' [[spoiler:some of the arguments he raises against Kuwana, while definitely valid, apply to himself in equal or greater amounts, particularly his insistence that Kuwana has culpability over Sawa's death despite it being an unintended outcome of a largely unrelated string of events; Yagami himself knew that Sawa was receiving ''death threats'' just for speaking to him, but despite her numerous pleas he goes back to speak to her over and over because "that's just what detectives do" without any precautions to keep her safe. As it turns out, the death threats were fakes sent by Kuwana himself in an attempt to get her to ''step away'' from this situation as he was worried she wouldn't be safe getting involved.]] Likewise, Yagami is absolutely right to say that [[spoiler:Kuwana]] should face criminal charges for all he's done, but as mentioned above that's another glass house he probably shouldn't be throwing stones in.

* FriendToAllChildren: Or ''teenagers'' in this case, as he spends much of his time in Seiryo High being nothing if not helpful and cordial with much of Seiryo High's students, even becoming a CoolTeacher in the process and a mentor figure of sorts to Amasawa, an up-and-coming detective herself. Tak explains this when meeting Itokura for the first time; by dropping out of high school and not even attending college, he states that he essentially became an adult without being able to enjoy his days as a kid, and seeing the students of Seiryo makes him wish he did have similar experiences growing up. Amasawa picks up on this at the end of the Dance Club story, seeing that Yagami is clearly enjoying himself as an adviser, not just to help the students become better people but to also indirectly experience what he had missed out on before in his younger years.

* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Like Kiryu and Majima in ''VideoGame/Yakuza0'', each of his fighting styles has its own individual color scheme. Tiger is Red, Crane is Blue, Snake is Green, and the Boxer style is Orange, the latter two of which debuted in ''Lost Judgment''.
