Son of Dio Brando and conceived after Dio had transferred his head to Jonathan Joestar's body, Giorno Giovanna is a part of both the Joestar and Brando bloodlines. His goal was to join up with the mob and set things right from within. As soon as he joins, he gets roped into traveling with Bucciarati's gang of Stand users, eventually protecting their boss' daughter. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, the real reason for the boss wanting to meet his daughter was to kill her. They rescue her and make it their goal to kill the boss instead.]] Giorno is calm and cold under almost any circumstance, but much like his bloodline carries a fierce and noble goal, and has an unbelievably deep amount of rage boiling inside him. Unlike everyone else in his line who are all [[LargeHam hammy]] Giorno perfers a mute, calm rage, though is capable of blowing his top when the need arises.

His Stand, Gold Experience, can give life to inanimate objects, usually by turning them into animals, or by giving life to someone to either make them lose sync with their actions [[spoiler: or revive them from the dead]]. It also once deflected attacks done to the creatures back to the attacker and later on Giorno finds a way to heal with it.

Note that for the ThemeNaming of [=JoJo=], his name is romanized as Joruno Jobana, though during Part 5 Araki would romanize it as [=GioGio=]. It's still pronounced the same. Also apropos to the Italian setting, the fans refer to this part by its Italian title ''Le Bizzarre Avventure di [=GioGio=]''.

* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Josuke and Giorno both became the people they are today after a chance meeting with two unnamed men, but the way they turned out could not be any more different. Josuke is an easygoing but incredibly passionate person whose only goal is to spend his days with his friends and family in the hometown he loves so much. Giorno is an extremely cool-headed person with a ruthless and driven personality whose goal is to impose his own RobinHood type of ideology upon the biggest mob in Italy. This even extends to their role in the story, with Josuke often standing front and center alongside his allies, and Giorno preferring to provide assistance and advice unless specifically provoked. Giorno actually takes after his father Dio more than he takes after the Joestar lineage.

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: While Koichi was sent to scout him out, Giorno is never informed about the history of the Joestar bloodline and Dio Brando. Koichi even notes that Jotaro seemed to be making it a point to ''avoid'' meeting him. Considering the last time Jotaro ran into a Brando, it makes sense.
* MagneticHero: It's even lampshaded by his companions.
* TheMole: Joined the mafia to kill the boss and take his place, and by the end of the story the only one who knows this is Bucciarati.
* MythologyGag: His Stand's main power is similar to Kars' ultimate ability of creating/altering life on a cellular level (Kars is also the originator of vampirism, making him Giorno's figurative granddaddy). The secondary ability of slowing down people's mental processes (i.e. speeding up time for them so that everything is too fast to keep up with) causes them to freeze in place like his father's stand ability.
* NeighbourhoodFriendlyGangsters: After saving the life of one of these when he was younger, it became his life's mission to become one himself.
* NoSell: [[spoiler: One half of Gold Experience Requiem's powers,]] allowing Giorno to NoSell anything and everything. [[spoiler: It even gives a NoSell to the ''universe resetting''.]]
* OneOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Gold Experience has mediocre strength, which contradicts the high power typical of a [=JoJo's=] Stand (Aside from Jonathan and Joseph), forcing Giorno to be more clever in his Stand's usage.

* TheStoic: He's not quite as expressive as his comrades.
* SwissArmySuperpower: Giorno's Stand; despite it seemingly only having the ability to create life and organic matter, he puts it to incredible use. From using it to age things to their death, to using it to accelerate one's mind to the point that it cannot catch up with one's own body (due to it also amplifying one's senses), to tracking a being by using any piece of it that broke off and could thus be turned into an animal as it wasn't alive. In one case, he [[spoiler:got infected with a guaranteed fatal flesh-eating virus that would destroy him in half a minute. He [[BeyondTheImpossible cured it regardless]] by morphing an inanimate object that was slaked with said virus into a snake that was immune to said virus, and had it inject its own blood into his body to be used as a vaccine]]. Ladies and gentlemen, we have found a cure for AIDS!
* TimeMaster: His stand's abilities seem to have a temporal component -- he can accelerate the growth of life, desync someone's sense of time, and speed up healing. [[spoiler: The biggest clue to this aspect of his stand is the Requiem version's ability to be completely fixed in the timeline within a single timeframe, nullifying and reversing any actions taken against him.]]
** ItRunsInTheFamily: [[TheHero Giorno]] has simliar powers (Speed up time by imbedding life with GE, maintain current status withing a single timeframe for GER) as his [[BigBad dad]] (Slow down and/or [[TimeStandsStill stop time]]) and the Pillar Men (Create/Destroy/Alter life on a cellular level).
* TranquilFury: He never gets consumed by anger, but he will ''not'' forgive cruelty, whether monstrous or indifferent. For the former, see his determination to put a stop to Diavolo's crimes. For the latter, see his determination to avenge the innocent janitor killed by Black Sabbath during his "test."
* WeakButSkilled: Not as obvious as some other examples in the series, but the destructive power of Gold Experience is nothing to write home about compared to the stands of the previous main protagonists(only a C as opposed to Star Platinum's and Crazy Diamond's A), and it's durability is pretty sub-par. But with his life giving abilities, he can create plants and animals to benefit him, turn the opponent's attacks against them, and make them lose sync with their bodies.
* WhiteSheep: The only member of the Brando bloodline not to end up a villain or {{Jerkass}}.

The leader of one of Passione's assassination squads. He helps spur Giorno into joining Passione and acts somewhat as his advisor. Bruno is driven by his loyalty to the townspeople, as well as the desire to clean up crime in his division. Completely serious 100% of the time, he only ever smiles once.

His Stand, Sticky Fingers, can create zippers for a number of needs. Warping himself or objects, passing through walls, attaching limbs, and so on are on the list of things he can do.

* AppendageAssimilation: Sort of. Bucciarati can use his zippers to attach other people's body parts to himself. This aspect can also be used for healing purposes by reattaching a severed limb, as in the case of [[spoiler:Abbacchio's hand.]]

Abbacchio reluctantly accepted. Later, he and his partner arrived at the scene of a break in of an old man's house and the thief was none other than the man who bribed him. [[MutualKill His partner intervened and shot the man at the cost of his own life.]]

His stand, Moody Blues, can replay events that occurred in whatever the location he's present in. It can also Shapeshift into any individuals that were present at the time and mimic their previous actions.

He's very emphatic to people as well and has the unfortunate streak of being hit by Stands first.

His Stand, Aerosmith, looks like an RC fighter plane. It's capable of shooting off live ammo as either multiple bullets or bombs and can act remotely by giving Narancia a radar that responds to breathing.

His Stand, King Crimson, can "skip time" - it eliminates a section of time from anywhere between .5 to 10 seconds, and during which not only is Diavolo completely immune to attacks, but can also set up others to be hit. See TimeMaster below for more details.

Likewise, his strength is incredible, and he can rip apart opponents with a single MegatonPunch, rather than using RapidFireFisticuffs like other powerful Stands tend to do, and is one of the few Stands capable of delivering one-hit kills without the use of an ability.
* ManipulativeBastard: Prefers to control others from the shadows like he does Squadra and Bruno's group.
* MeaningfulName: Diavolo means "devil" in Italian to counter Dio's "God". Many take this as his mother or someone dubbing him this due to his bizarre birth.
** King Crimson's name and its abilities are believed to come from three different songs by the titular band, and all songs from the same album (a hidden prod towards [[spoiler: his DID]]:

** Attempted to use Gelato and Sorbet as expressions of how he didn't want anyone finding out his identity. This led to La Squadra, ''a very competent and dangerous assassin team'', rebelling two years before the plot. Their leader, Risotto Nero, basically has an InstantDeathRadius.
*** He also ends up doing something similar with Bucciarati's group and he should be thankful their InstantDeathRadius party member left.
** [[spoiler: Instead of simply waiting for Trish to be delivered to him and then killing her behind Bucciarati's back, Diavolo thinks it's a good idea to snatch her from him, knowing full well that Bruno is an altruistic man, that he's an experienced stand user and that his friends are ''literally down the street and nothing is stopping them from entering the building and finding them.'']]
** Considering how La Squadra was after Trish, Diavolo set it up so [[spoiler:that Bucciarati's gang and La Squadra would wipe each other out trying to get Trish.]] Not only did this fail, and horribly so, but then Risotto met Doppio...

* NoNonsenseNemesis: Diavolo is serious in dealing with his targets to ensure they are killed and prefers to end his fights as soon as possible. Unlike his enemies with their Stands, he is not interested in repeatedly beating up his foes with his Stand, King Crimson with a Stand cry. When Diavolo deals with them, he ensures each punch from King Crimson is fatal.
* OffingTheOffspring: [[spoiler:Spends all of Part 5 trying to kill Trish. He briefly succeeds when he forces her soul out of Mista's body, but Bucciarati saves her by reversing the soul-swapping process.]]

For ten seconds, every action and event that takes place has no effect and no one else retains any memory of that time interval, but the ''results'' of any of those actions remain[[note]]This is represented by time being compressed to a single point in which causality doesn't exist; at the time, people don't perceive this and take actions as if everything were normal, but in actuality every instant in which those actions occur exist simultaneously rather than leading into each other -- in this sense, time doesn't exist and is "erased".[[/note]], and as a result, it looks like TeleportSpam since Diavolo can use this time to disappear and reappear on will. The nature of the erased time allows Diavolo to see all possible actions simultaneously and follow whichever sequence of events he wants to occur during the time skip using Epitaph. The most intuitive explanation, and the one that Diavolo himself seems to favor, is that for about 10 seconds, he controls fate and destiny in the surrounding area.

Unlike Dio, Diavolo cannot initiate actions during the erased time - for instance, he can't activate King Crimson, then throw a bunch of knives at you and have them impact when time resumes normally. Instead, he can use Epitaph to predict his opponent's actions and implement counters to them ''before'' activating King Crimson. For instance, if someone is about to shoot at him, he can predict it and start to move behind that person to position himself for a counterattack. Activating King Crimson at the moment the trigger is pulled will then cause all actions that would have occurred in the next ten seconds to instead take place simultaneously - Diavolo's opponent will shoot, Diavolo will get out of the way of the bullet, and the bullet will impact the wall behind him ''in the same moment''. The net effect is that Diavolo can see the future and weaponize it by skipping any actions that are harmful to him, but keeping the ones that benefit him.

His Stand, Green Day, is similar to Purple Haze, but with mold instead of toxins. Once infected, if the victim is under a certain altitude, the mold begins to grow and will devour the flesh of whatever it's implanted on.

His Stand, Oasis, is a wearable suit that allows Secco to turn the ground into mud on will and travel through it for the price of removing his vision as he does so. Despite it turning concrete into mud, it also prevents Secco from being hit by projectiles while he's underground.

The Grateful Dead accelerates aging, both mentally and physically to certain points - infants would have their skin wrinkled and would succumb to their hair falling out instead of just outright growing them into adults. It's one of the few Stands that can affect its user, as Prosciutto can change his appearance should he need to. It can also target genders independently by making one gender grow older faster or slower than others, but this is because of a difference of body temperatures.

Beach Boy is a fishing rod capable of three things: it's capable of tracking people and literally fishing them out from other rooms, it can phase through any and all objects including skin, and attacking the line simply reflects damage.

[[spoiler: After Giorno defeats a Baby Face homunculus by burning it to death, he transforms a part of it into a poisonous snake, which of course heads right back to Melone.]]

Baby Face is a remote Stand taking the shape of a computer that can generate homonculi, which after Melone trains them for a short bit can act as remote soldiers that grow. These creatures gain their personalities from the women Melone uses to form his Stands, and with "improper teaching" (or just brutally attacking them), they will spin out of control.

White Album forms as a body suit with long ice skates for feet. It completely encases Ghiaccio and allows him to alter the temperatures of just about anything, allowing for quick travel on icy routes and providing a rapid cooling of the air around it.

Metallica is a colony of white or grey beings shaped like pillows with stitches and hollow eyes living inside Nero. It manipulates iron and magnetism and can form objects within his or victim's bodies as long as they're 100% iron (like needles, razor blades, and scissors). It also can bounce light away from Nero's body, giving him complete invisibility.

* ConflictingLoyalty: The in-story reason why [[spoiler:Fugo stays behind when Buccellati's gang defects. He is torn between his loyalty to Diavolo and to Buccellati.]] ''Purple Haze Feedback'' resolves this.
** His intros with Giorno, Buccellati, and Mista in ''All Star Battle'' are actually based off a dropped idea to [[spoiler: make Fugo an absolute traitor to Buccellati's group, but then rejoining them before the fight with Diavolo.]]

* LackOfEmpathy: In ''Purple Haze Feedback'', besides his SurvivorGuilt for not getting on the boat with the rest of Buccellati's group, he also is unable to understand why his teammates (especially Narancia) were willing to betray the boss and risk their lives for the sake of Trish. He gets better after caring for his new partner, Sheila E, which gives him the strength to evolve his Purple Haze..

* MyGreatestFailure: If we allow ''All-Star Battle'' a bit of canonicity, specifically its post-fight comments, Fugo never forgave himself for [[spoiler:not getting on the boat with the rest of Buccellati's group, which is also talked about in great lengths in ''Purple Haze Feedback'']].

* OptOut: The in-verse explanation to why [[spoiler:he left after Buccellati draws a LineInTheSand]], which is explored more in his novel. Out-verse... see PutOnABus for more information.

* TeamDad: Often acts as a surrogate parent or older brother to Narancia and Mista, joining in their stranger antics and trying to tutor Narancia because of his poor background. He is also officially the second-in-command of Buccellati's group.

The Boss's little girl of 15, Trish has never once met her father and has only heard of him through her mother's words. After finally finding his connection to Passione, she is taken in and protected by Buccellati's faction. [[spoiler: When it's revealed that it's just a ploy to get her killed by Diavolo himself, she gets protection in an entirely different way.]] Starts out spoiled and honestly terrified of seeing her father, but later becomes strong enough to fight.

* SamusIsAGirl: Buccellati's gang first meet Trish when she's in disguise as a janitor. When she reveals herself, the boys are quite surprised to see she's a girl, especially since she'd just beaten up Narancia.
* ShipTease: With Mista and Buccellati.

* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Diavolo expects Buccellati to turn a blind eye to the fact that he wants to kill his daughter, and when Bruno intervenes, Diavolo thinks Bruno wants to take over Passione.

* TheFaceless: For a good chunk of Part 5. His first fight with Buccellati has his face constantly obscured by shadows or by King Crimson. His first appearances are also incredibly different to how he was revealed, as he had short hair and actually seemed a lot taller than he turned out to be.

* FinalBossPreview: The fight with Buccellati.

** In his attempts to make his drugs the only drugs on the market, he alienates some of his followers, including Buccellati... which starts the plot.

*** He also ends up doing something similar with Buccellati's group and he should be thankful their InstantDeathRadius party member left.
** [[spoiler: Instead of simply waiting for Trish to be delivered to him and then killing her behind Buccellati's back, Diavolo thinks it's a good idea to snatch her from him, knowing full well that Bruno is an altruistic man, that he's an experienced stand user and that his friends are ''literally down the street and nothing is stopping them from entering the building and finding them.'']]
** Considering how La Squadra was after Trish, Diavolo set it up so [[spoiler:that Buccellati's gang and La Squadra would wipe each other out trying to get Trish.]] Not only did this fail, and horribly so, but then Risotto met Doppio...

** [[JustEatGilligan The six or seven times a]] MundaneSolution [[JustEatGilligan of using the tank-destroying strength of King Crimson and his abilities to skip time]] were avoided because... something. Case in point, the entire Risotto fight. He also never used Doppio efficiently, God knows why, ''even when Doppio himself points out that Buccellati could never hurt him''.

* OffingTheOffspring: [[spoiler:Spends all of Part 5 trying to kill Trish. He briefly succeeds when he forces her soul out of Mista's body, but Buccellati saves her by reversing the soul-swapping process.]]

Technically the first enemy Giorno meets, Luca tries to mug the protagonist. Quickly dies due to Gold Experience, but his defeat is what calls Buccellati over to investigate Giorno. Technically, he didn't really "die" from Gold Experience - [[spoiler: he actually dies when Diavolo ruthlessly orders him to be dismantled and have his body parts used for scare tactics on Giorno.]]

A capo who gave Buccellati's group their mission to deliver Trish to the boss. [[spoiler: He killed himself shortly to prevent any enemy to get info from him.]]

A greedy member of Passione who attacks Buccellati's gang while their on their ship. He actually manages to catch everyone but Buccellati, but is stopped through the abilities of Moody Blues and Sticky Fingers. His Stand, Soft Machine, can literally deflate objects or people by stabbing them, reducing them to paper-thin husks.

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: In the colored manga, Doppio has pink hair to go with pink eyes. [[spoiler: This is only ever played straight, however, when Doppio or Buccellati control Diavolo's body.]]

* GenreSavvy: His default reaction to being attacked is to be honest on whether or not he has money, hold his hands up, and cower and plead for his life; it very nearly worked on Risotto, who was adamant about him being an enemy. He also knows that Buccellati wouldn't fight him or even hurt him and can guess right away that you ''really'' shouldn't be so fooled by trying to pass yourself off as a girl. Too bad the Boss is adamant about that kind of stuff.

A very supportive assassin, Prosciutto is Pesci's partner and often reminds him how strong he is. He's a sort of "big brother" archtype to the group, and he attacks with Pesci on a train the heroes have boarded to get to Florence. He's also ruthless and doesn't take chances, immediately shooting at Mista when Prosciutto has him pinned. [[spoiler: Using Sticky Fingers, Buccellati manages to shove Prosciutto out of the train and '''into the wheels''', but Prosciutto only dies after losing his will to live after Pesci falls.]]

Prosciutto's partner in crime, Pesci is very eager to please his partner and will do anything he asks. However, he's very cowardly at first and lacks a lot of strength, not helped by his odd Stand. However, when [[spoiler: Prosciutto is shoved under the train]], Pesci finds his inner strength his friend always told him about and begins to fight seriously, making even Buccellati hesitant. [[spoiler: He dies when Buccellati slices him into pieces using his Stand and then dumps his body into the nearby river.]]

* AttackReflector: All attacking the line will do is bounce your own attack back at you. [[spoiler:However, Buccellati manages to use this to his own advantage and to Prosciutto's detriment.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's mostly a shy person who respects Prosciutto as his brother. But once Buccellati [[spoiler:crushes Prosciutto under the train]]... he [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge stops being shy.]]

* LetsGetDangerous / TookALevelInBadass: When Pesci gains confidence in himself, he nearly kills Bruno Buccellati during their battle. Lampashaded by Buccellati who admits that the deadly user on the train was Pesci and not Prosciutto.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Buccellati unzips himself into a dozen pieces, including splitting his ''heart'' in half, to hide from Beach Boy's hook. He holds it so long that he almost dies... [[spoiler:until Pesci, flipping out in a rage over Prosciutto's death, forces the train to stop. This jumbles Buccellati's separated pieces back into each other, causing him to instinctively zip them together and revive.]]
