* {{Nepotism}}: Monpui, the priest candidate for the Hero party is initially dismissed by two committee members citing genuine criticisms of the young man. However, when the third member notes the candidate is his nephew, the other two try and coach what they said in a positive way and he is awarded the place on the party. That said, while he does do some duplicitous things later on, he is skilled in holy magic and defensive barriers.

Ironically, he's the most talented member of the "hero party", with the other members being chosen only because they look the part.

!Main Party

[[folder:Saitou]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saitou_7.png]]
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/RyoheiKimura (Japanese); Creator/BlakeMcNamara (English)

The eponymous Handyman who got transported into the world. He uses his skills as a HandyMan to become the "thief" of the party.
----
* AimlesslySeekingHappiness: He was pretty unhappy with his life back on earth, working as an unappreciated HandyMan, having no family or friends, and no real GoalInLife. Being transported into another world have him real fulfillment.
* AudienceSurrogate: Since he doesn't know much about the StandardFantasySetting he's in and is a newbie to the party, he asks questions about the setting and the characters, giving a chance for the story to lay out some exposition.
* BiggerIsBetterInBed: PlayedWith. According to himself, he's a "half Maderaca" (Maderaka being the king famous for his GagPenis) and Raelza is [[DistractedByTheSexy notably distracted by this information once she learns about it]]. Morlock on the other hand, considers a half-Maderaka to be a TeenyWeenie and shames Saitou for it, but it's implied Morlock has absurd ideas on how big a penis should be.
* BoringButPractical: Saitou's skillset. He has no combat techniques like Raelza's or flashy magic like Morlock's or Lafanpan's, but as a handyman, he's invaluable for picking locks, disabling and bypassing traps, and maintaining the party's equipment.
* CommonalityConnection: He gets along well with Mevena due to their love of gadgets and how items work.
* CovertPervert: He can't help but stare at Raelza whenever a WardrobeMalfunction occurs. Lafan even catches him EatingTheEyeCandy once and gets him to admit that he [[BuxomBeautyStandard likes Raelza's big boobs]].
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: The StandardFantasySetting he finds himself in is much less advanced than back on Earth. It takes him some time to adjust, and sometimes his knowledge of "future" technology gives him and edge.
* FriendlessBackground: He didn't have many friends and wasn't particularly close to his family back on Earth, which is why he's not preoccupied with coming back to his world.
* HandyMan: He is the titular handyman and uses his tools and skills to break into various locations and chests in the Great Labyrinth, basically working as the "thief" of the party.
* TheHeart: He soon becomes the emotional core of the team
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Saitou constantly looks down on himself as "dead weight" since he is not strong, can't fight, and can't do magic, not noticing how important he is and that his party members truly care about him. It's best showcased when he's out with a cold for a few days, with the party notably struggling without the additional support he provides.
* JackOfAllTrades: Saitou can do a lot of things beyond lockpicking from making a custom backpack for Lafanpan to cooking. He notes he's always been good at everything, but also never fully shined in anything either, which contributed to his self-worth issues as he grew older.
* NiceGuy: He's a genuinely kind man that enjoys helping others. All he wishes is that is hard work was appreciated more.
* NonActionGuy: He's just an average guy with no real fighting skills, and can hardly fight even the weakest monster without assistance. As time goes on, he does become more useful in battle, with Raelza teaching him some basic combat moves.
* ObliviousToLove: He seems entirely unaware of Raelza's crush on him, despite how often Lafan teases them both over it.
* PositiveFriendInfluence: He had huge self-esteem issues due to being unappreciated back on Earth. Meeting the party and becoming a valuable member and friend to them gave him a new passion for life.
* SupportPartyMember: Saitou grows into this role as he learns new skills. He studies magic to help Morlock remember his incantations, he provides defense for Lafanpan while she heals and buffs the others, and he keeps extra weapons on hand so that Raelza can switch them out as needed. He's become such an integral part of the party dynamics that when he's out with a cold, the party struggles enough for Raelza to demand he recovers soon.
* UtilityPartyMember: Saitou's role at the start of the story. He has no experience in combat, but his history as a handyman provides him with numerous useful skills off of the battlefield. He later adepts to shielding Lafanpan from minor attacks, switching Raelza's weapons to the right one, and helping Morlock remember his spells. After he's been with the party for a few months and is out sick for a few days, the team realizes quickly how much of their weaknesses he has come to cover and support.

[[folder:Raelza]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raelza.png]]
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/FairouzAi (Japanese); Creator/SarahRoach (English)

The warrior of the group and Morlock's adopted daughter.
----
* TwentyFourHourArmor: She's frequently wearing her full armor even while just hanging around town.
* AbsurdPhobia: She's a competent knight but has an absurd fear of slimy things, making her unable to fight things such as a hydra.
* ActionGirl: She's a female but has no trouble being the primary physical fighter of the party.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: She's often annoyed and dismissive of Morlock and his ScatterbrainedSenior antics, but she loves him deep down and truly sees him as her adoptive father. When he almost dies defeating the dark spirit, she breaks down crying in his arms and when he ''does'' get KilledOffscreen she's very distressed by it... at least until she finds out about his AutoRevive.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: Saitou upgrades her gauntlets so she can pull out a backup blade from them in emergencies where she can't use or reach for her sword.
* BoobsOfSteel: Has the biggest chest size of the main characters and has great physical strength.
* TheBigGirl: As a knight, she's the team's main source of physical muscle.
* {{BFS}}: Her main and most commonly used weapon is a huge sword that she swings around with surprising speed.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has a sizable bust that is often the focus of MaleGaze. Lafan has complimented her about it and even [[CovertPervert Saitou can't help but get distracted by them from time to time.]]
* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: At one point Lafan mentions Raelza used to take off her armor much more often before Saitou joined, with the implication she's embarrassed at being seen by him in the immodest clothing she wears under her armor.
* CantSpitItOut: Has an obvious crush on Saitou, but is too shy to vocalize him. Lafan often teases and encourages her to do it, with little effect.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She often gets jealous about other women getting close to Saitou.
** She often spies on him whenever he hangs out with Mevena at the item shop and is envious of how easily they get along. Lafan often calls her out on it and says she should just go in and hang out too.
** When a succubus charms and attempts to seduce Saitou, she becomes enraged and attacks the succubus in a berserker rage.
** She gets visibly bothered when she thinks Lilyza might have a crush on Saitou, and is relieved when it turns out not to be the case... only to be bothered again when ''Gible'' turns out to be the one with a crush on him.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: She often has to keep an eye on Morlock so his ScatterbrainedSenior shenanigans don't get him in trouble.
* CompressedHair: She is somehow able to gather her long mane hair inside her helmet. It usually spills out the moment she takes off the helmet, meaning she ''doesn't'' actually bind it in a bun. At one point, Saitou makes her a custom hairpin to help her keep her hair tied up.
* CovertPervert: Once she learns that Saitou has a "[[BiggerIsBetterInBed half-Maderaka]]" she can't stop blushing or thinking about it, and was tempted to [[UndressingTheUnconscious undress him when he was unconscious]] just so she could have a chance to see it.
* CrushBlush: She often gets a LuminescentBlush when her crush on Saitou comes up.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Both of her biological parents died while she was young while doing their best to provide for her.
* GirlyBruiser: She might be a deadly warrior clad in heavy armor, but she's surprisingly girly, having a traditionally feminine appearance and characteristics. She's also shown to be self-conscious about this, once worrying that Saitou didn't "see her as a woman".
* GlacierWaif: She's a deadly and capable warrior but looks very unthreatening and feminine when not wearing her armor.
* HappilyAdopted: Despite how harsh she is to him, she's grateful to Morlock for adopting her and does love him and sees him as her father.
* HeroesPreferSwords: She's the main female lead and is a primarily sword user.
* HiddenBuxom: She's quite well-endowed, but her armor doesn't show it.
* InsecureLoveInterest: She's very shy and insecure when it comes to her feelings towards Saitou, and sometimes even shows distress that he doesn't even think of her as a woman.
* KnightlySwordAndShield: She wears a pretty classic combo of knight armor combined with a huge tower shield and a {{BFS}}, although she also often uses her sword as a two-handed weapon for extra speed.
* LightningBruiser: She can be surprisingly fast even while wearing her heavy armor.
* LongHairIsFeminine: She has surprisingly long hair hiding under that helmet and her overall appearance and personality are much more girly than one would expect from a competent warrior like her.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: When she's not two-handing her {{BFS}}, she fights with a large steel shield in her hand.
* MsFanservice: She's the biggest provider of {{fanservice}} in the series, being an attractive woman with a buxom figure who's prone to suffering {{Wardrobe Malfunction}}s.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: She's shown to be incredibly strong but doesn't have the kind of muscular physique that's normally expected out of a heavily armored knight.
* NewParentNomenclatureProblem: She's been adopted by Morlock for some time, but still is embarrassed to call herself 'Raelza Morlock'.
* RaisedByWolves: She was orphaned at a young age when both of her parents got killed by wolves and ironically enough, she soon ended up being found by a young wolf and they managed to survive in the wilds together until one day Morlock ended up finding and adopting her.
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: She often gets involved in {{fanservice}} situations against her will, such as being forced to take off her armor, suffering {{Wardrobe Malfunction}}s. Even [[NakedFirstImpression her very first meeting]] with Saitou happened when he fell on her bed while she was [[SleepsInTheNude sleeping naked]].
* ScarsAreForever: Raelza has one on her cheek that she received from a goblin during an early adventure. Once a wound has formed a scar, it's almost impossible to heal it magically. A pair of rare magical items together would do the trick, and Raelza had already found one of them...but sacrifices it to revive Saitou after he's mortally wounded and a [[WeaponizedTeleportation teleportation trap]] has separated them from Morlock and Lafanpan.
* ScarsAreUgly: Raelza has a scar on her cheek that she received from a goblin during an early adventure. It's not a very ugly one, but she's still ashamed of it since she got it from such a lowly enemy.
* SleepsInTheNude: She prefers to sleep in the nude while in the privacy of her bedroom, which seems to be one of the few times she [[TwentyFourHourArmor isn't wearing her armor]], and likely does it for comfort reasons. This is often played for {{fanservice}}, since usually there is only a ModestyBedsheet or GodivaHair covering her naughty bits.
* TeamMom: She's the most responsible and cautious member of the party and is often looking out for others, especially by keeping Morlock in check or protecting [[NonActionGuy Saito]] from monsters.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: She's ''particularly'' protective of Saito, who she has a crush of, often getting panicked or rushing to his side whenever he's in danger.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morlock_0.png]]
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/{{Cho}} (Japanese); Creator/BradleyCampbell (English)

An aging high-level wizard and Raelza's adoptive father.
----
* AbsentMindedProfessor: [[spoiler:In the past, he was a well-regarded magician known for his research but it came at the cost of him isolating himself in his work and ignoring his wife and daughter. Tragically, his daughter ended up dying of sickness without him ever noticing, and he invested too much money on research to afford her resurrection.]]
* AccidentalHero: Morlock ends up saving [[spoiler:Saito by summoning him to this world. Saito was less than a second from being hit by a truck when Morlock's fooling around with the time-space magic notes he still had from when his memory was lost results in Saito coming to this world]]. Morlock, given his memory issues, has mostly forgotten this fact.
* AmnesiaDanger: A RunningGag is that he can't remember the exact words to cast complicated spells, and does so right in the middle of battles. Saito began to memorize his spells just so he could recite them for Morlock in such situations.
* AttractiveBentGender: [[spoiler:When he momentarily became young, due to the fact he did not have his penis attached at the time, the spell also ended up [[GenderBender turning him into a woman]], and a very attractive one at that, although nobody noticed it, since his young male form is already a LongHairedPrettyBoy.]]
* BiggerIsBetterInBed: He's a firm believer of this trope, and holds great admiration for the old king having a huge penis. He himself claims he has a sizable one and gets extremely distressed when the demon dog ends up eating it.
* BlackMage: He specializes in offensive and elemental magic.
* BrokenAce: He's a legendary 80+ level wizard that used to be very famous, but due to his memory issues and old age, he sometimes isn't as useful as his power level would imply.
* CameBackWrong: PlayedForLaughs. He [[KilledOffscreen dies of a poisoned wound while the rest of the party was out doing a job]], but since he had an AutoRevive contract he gets revived on its own... except while he was dead a demon dog [[CripplingCastration ate his penis]], so he's stuck being a half-undead until he can reattach it.
* TheCasanova: According to Gibungle, he used to be a popular ladies' man when he was younger. Nowadays he's more of a CasanovaWannabe who women want nothing to do with.
* CerebusRetcon: Morlock's forgetfulness is played for laughs, however the reason for it [[spoiler:is that he was once the great mage Chrome. However, he pursued his career to the point of ignoring his ill daughter and wife's distress. While he succeeds in achieving his goal to attain the rank of a great mage, his daughter died hoping he would come home, clutching the necklace she made for her father and he never once wore before she died. With not enough money to pay for a resurrection as it was put all into his lab, his wife leaves him. After [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone realizing that he really should've took his wife's warnings more seriously]] and after his wife angrily leaves him after their daughter dies. he takes a moment to realize that, for all the effort that it took to attain his mage certification, he trashes various things in his house in anger after he comes to terms with the fact that [[AllForNothing it means nothing now with the result of his only daughter dead and wife leaving him after selfishly accomplishing his mage-related goal.]] He then seeks out in the Great Labyrinth a mage who is said to control time. After this and misreading the necklace's tiles, he becomes Morlock the senile wizard with poor memory]].
* CrackOhMyBack: Morlock is prone to back pain due to his age. Fortunately, Lafanpan is able to use her magic to heal his back temporarily, though she charges him for it.
* CripplingCastration: [[spoiler:In the second story arc, he dies temporarily, and the demon dog ends up stumbling upon his corpse and decides to devour him to absorb his magic power. But all he manages to eat is Morlock's penis before he's caught and forced to run. Naturally, when Morlock is revived he's extremely upset about the loss, and it actually has dire consequences since the AutoRevive spell can't complete unless all his body parts are attached, forcing the party to track down the demon dog that devoured his penis. At the end of the arc, he manages to regrow it after getting it's magical essence back.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:He was once the great mage named Chrome, but he focused so much on his work that he ignored his family. When his daughter got ill, he wasn't around to save her and he wasted all his family on his research so he couldn't afford a resurrection. His wife ended up leaving him in disgust. He became obsessed with finding the TimeTravel magic in order to turn back time and save his daughter, and traveled to the Great Labyrinth in order to find it.]]
* DirtyOldMan: He enjoys raunchy VulgarHumor and is easily swayed by a pretty face.
** When the party encounters a [[SuccubiAndIncubi succubus]] who disables Saitou with her [[CharmPerson charm]] power, Raelza and Lafanpan assume Morlock will be fine because as a high-level wizard he has [[ResistantToMagic magic resistance]]. They fail to account for the succubus being a beautiful [[FullFrontalAssault naked]] monster girl, and unlike Saitou, Morlock does ''not'' IgnoreTheFanservice. Thus Raelza has to chase off the succubus by herself, but only for Saitou. She just walks away from Morlock under the assumption that the succubus will find him unappealing enough to reject his advances.
** When he loses his hand, he asks Ninia to reattach it, since he heard about her "[[LecherousLicking saliva licking technicques]]".
* DramaPreservingHandicap: He's such a powerful mage that his memory issues are the only thing stopping him from having a StoryBreakerPower.
* ForgetfulJones: His bouts of amnesia and senility are often PlayedForLaughs and happen at absurd moments. Raelza claims he once forgot he was even with the party. [[spoiler:This is later revealed to be a case of LaserGuidedAmnesia, as a time mage messed with his memories when he confronted him in the past, and his memory hasn't been the same since.]]
* IronButtMonkey: Is often caught in traps or hit by attacks due to his ScatterbrainedSenior act. Since these are supposed to be comical moments, he never gets actually seriously injured by them.
* IWasQuiteALooker: [[spoiler:When he absorbs the demon dog magical energy, be reverts back to how he used to look like as a young man, revealing he was a LongHairedPrettyBoy.]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler: Morlock was once a great wizard known as Chrome. After losing his daughter to illness after he was too focused on learning magic, he sought to learn time-reversal magic to go back and fix his mistake. However, he failed to defeat the powerful wizard who had power over time and space, who erased his memories as a sort of mercy.]]
* MagicStaff: He carries a long, magical wooden staff with him, which he uses as a catalyst when casting his spells.
* TheMentor:
** As the most experienced adventurer, he mentored all the party members in the basics of adventuring.
** In the past, he also mentored Gibungle in magic.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:In the past, he became wrecked with guilt over his negligent behaviour led to the death of his daughter, and he became obssesed with TimeTravel magic in order to try to turn back time and save her.]]
* MysticalWhiteHair: His white hair is actually not due to his old age, it's actually natural, just like how he's naturally gifted with magical potential.
* ParentalNeglect: [[spoiler:He ignored his daughter to focus on his work, thinking he'd be able to give her a better life once his research gave fruit. But she ended up dying of a sudden sickness and he couldn't afford to resurrect her because he spent all his money on his research.]]
* ResistantToMagic: Due to being a high-level magician, he's highly resistant to any form of magic.
* RetiredBadass: According to Raelza, he has retired once as an adventurer, but it didn't stick.
* RobeAndWizardHat: He wears the classic robe and wizard hat attire wizards are known for.
* ScatterbrainedSenior: Morlock is one of these. This naturally causes problems when the party needs his magic to get out of a jam.
** The most recurring problem is his forgetting his own spells. Saitou helps avert this by having memorized most of his spells and will provide him the finished incantation should Morlock need it.
** He diagnoses a lightning trap which prevents Raelza from crossing with her armor on. He tells her if she gets out of her armor, he will levitate the armor over the trap and they will be fine. Once she changes into Saito's uniform, Morlock walks into the trap while holding the armor.
* ShipperOnDeck: He's not as pushy about it as Lafan, but he explicitly gives Saitou his blessing to be with Raelza.
* TheSmartGuy: PlayedWith. He's a very intelligent and experienced adventurer, and a specialist when it comes to magic, but [[ScatterbrainedSenior his age makes him unreliable as he can have sudden bouts of forgetfulness]].
* SquishyWizard: PlayedWith. He's a powerful wizard, but doesn't have any physical prowess and suffers from [[CrackOhMyBack chronic back pain]]. But he's also an IronButtMonkey who often gets caught in attacks and traps that could seriously injure him, but he never seems to take much damage from them.
* StrongerThanTheyLook: He might be a goofy ScatterbrainedSenior wearing unassuming gear, but he's still a very high-level wizard that can decimate hordes of monsters with one spell when he gets serious.
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler:Morlock's current name comes from one. His real name is Chrome, which in the other world's language is written with the same letters. Chrome's dead daughter had a necklace with his name on it that he kept with him while trying to discover [[TimeMaster magic to rewind time]] and reverse her death. The same incident that gave him [[LaserGuidedAmnesia magically induced amnesia]] broke the necklace, and the letters ended up scrambled to spell Morlock, which he assumed was his name since he couldn't remember it.]]
* WizardBeard: Part of his WizardClassic look is his huge white beard that goes down to his chest.
* WizardClassic: Morlock is an elderly [[WizardBeard bearded man]] skilled in magic, [[RobeAndWizardHat dressed in robes, wearing a pointed hat]], and wielding a MagicStaff. Unfortunately, the years have taken a toll on his mind, and he struggles to remember the incantations for his spells.

When Saito learns about this from Raelza, he considers giving more of his share to Lafanpan to help her out but Raelza dismisses the gesture. Lafanpan is too proud to accept charity like that and will only take gold she has earned by finding treasure or being paid for magic buffs or minor healing.
* {{Lunacy}}: As a moonlight faery, her powers come from the moon.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: A sympathetic example. She's only adventuring for the treasure and even charges fees for her services to her friends and allies, but this is due to her needing to offer gold to the Goddess of the Moon, as moon fairies like her were cursed and will shrink if they don't offer sacrifice to her.
* SexySlitDress: Her toga-like dress has slits on each side that leave her legs exposed.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: When Saitou makes her a custom bath, she thinks nothing of undressing in front of him and when he has a PleasePutSomeClothesOn reaction, she explains that since he's a human and she's a fairy there's no problem. But later when he sees her naked after a ShapeshiftingExcludesClothing incident she does have a NakedFreakOut, and it's implied because during the time she spent as a human, she [[CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest grew to have a crush on him]].

* SupportPartyMember: Lafanpan initially serves as this. She has little offensive power, but she is able to heal her allies and provide defensive buffs.
* WhiteMagicianGirl: She used her WhiteMagic to heal or cast buffs on the rest of the party.
