* AscendedExtra: Of a sort; while Lazlow's been a prominent radio figure since ''GTA III'', this games marks not only his first on-screen appearance, but also the first time he's relevant to the game's plot.

* {{Foil}}: For both Michael and Trevor, Johnny is another "WhereAreTheyNow" possibility for a GTA protagonist who "beat the game". Especially with Trevor, as the two are NotSoDifferent; They're the most villainous protagonist of their respective games, both practice EqualOpportunityEvil, both have poor hygiene, more out-there sexual preferences, are both heavily involved in the drug trade, practice and in general are more niche, outsider criminals than the standard protagonist, who's usually a regular thug, gangster, or gangbanger. The primary difference is that while Johnny had ChronicBackstabbingDisorder, Trevor values loyalty above all else.

* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:Johnny came up with some pretty weak reasons to betray just about any and everyone he worked with, inside the club or out. It makes sense that he dies at the hands of Trevor, who values loyalty above all else.]]

* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:He's treated as a regular enemy during the BlastOut in The Wrap Up, meaning that depending on a number of factors (including the player's actions) he may or may not survive. Notably, killing him is not required for OneHundredPercentCompletion of the mission, and the player is encouraged by their MissionControl to abandon the firefight rather than stay and kill everyone. The fact that he and his fellow IAA agents are outgunned by the far more heavily-armed FIB agents and Merryweather PMCs - being stuck with unmodified standard pistols (though one agent is carrying a Carbine Rifle) - is even more reason to just run along and let the agent get back to fighting the other enemies in the area. It's eventually revealed that he survives the gunfight in The Bogdan Problem heist.]]

* SecretCharacter: If you successfully do his random event near Franklin's house near the beginning of the game, he can be hired to help you in future heists.
