History Characters / GintamaAmanto

Amanto is a term collectively used for the various alien species and factions that came to Earth and took over. Some of these Amanto look [[HumanAliens almost completely human]], while others look like [[PettingZooPeople humanoid animals]]. The [[Characters/GintamaHarusame Harusame Space Pirates]] also consist entirely of Amanto.

* PettingZooPeople: He's a humanoid frog.

* PettingZooPeople: He is a humanoid cat.

* GogglesDoNothing: He wears a pair of goggles, [[CaptainObvious probably to protect his eyes on desert planets]].

* StatOVision: Has a "Spouzer" (totally not a [[Manga/DragonBall Scouter]]), which he uses to measure the PowerLevels of the group, so they can split their battle power evenly. In true ''Manga/DragonBall'' fashion, it ends up exploding.

* LoveableSexManiac: Extremely perverted and shows off all the time.

* BadassGrandpa: As of chapter 674 where Kagura has become a mother.

* LaserGuidedKarma: As seen in SadisticChoice below, after Gintoki killed Shouyou, he came back as Utsuro, who gives them immortal blood, and cuts them up into pieces, basically leaving them as immortal, rotting corpses that can never die.

* NonActionBigBad: Apart from Utsuro, the Tendoshu themselves don't fight, leaving it to their minions, such as the Naraku.

* BetrayalByInaction: [[spoiler:He does this to his own brother who was setup in a trap in form of a treaty, just so he can marry the woman he was also in love with.]]

* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:He was this to his older brother who actually is a good person and happens to be dating the same woman he would marry. He let him get killed in a trap that was set up as a treaty so he can go and marry the same woman.]]

* HappilyMarried: While his devotion to warfare keeps him separated from her, he loves his wife and she seems to feel the same about him. Unfortunately she is killed along with their newborn child when [[spoiler:the Altana on their planet blows up.]]

* {{Hypocrite}}: The same person wanting to avenge his wife and family [[spoiler:let his own brother die in a trap just so he can marry the same woman he was also in love with.]]

* RevengeBeforeReason: He is devoted to getting revenge against the Tendoshu for deaths of his wife and child. When he discovers that [[spoiler:the Tendoshu has essentially been killed off]], he still resumes the Liberation Army's efforts, feeling that he and the soldiers can't go back empty-handed without obtaining some form of revenge.

* WreckedWeapon: He gets his sword completely shattered by Gintoki's bokuto when he tries to stab [[spoiler:Jirocho]], who was buried under a pile of dead Shinra warriors. This forces him to pick up a new weapon, but he is beaten by Gintoki before he can use it.

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: While he was initially a recurring ButtMonkey, he completely disappears from the manga after the Umibouzu arc. He later reappears hundreds of chapters later during the Final arc.

The king of the planet Catnip, he has secretly come to Edo to collect the balls of the stray cats there. He has grown old without producing any heirs and while he now has a new wife, he can no longer "get it up". As such he intends to use the cat balls to produce the aphrodisiac Catnip Omega to revive his sex life.

* DirtyOldMan: He is obsessed with "getting it back up" and mostly talks about his sex life.
* GroinAttack: He gets his balls ripped off by Katsura, while Kondo rips off the balls of his ambassador.
* LaserGuidedKarma: He wants to take the balls of Kabukicho's stray cats mostly to revive his sex life (getting an heir to succeed him is a lower priority). Katsura then rips off his own balls in turn.
* NoNameGiven: He is never given a name and is only referred to as being the king of Planet Catnip.
* PettingZooPeople: He is a humanoid cat.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Since he is a humanoid cat himself, he is able to communicate with the cats of Earth through meows.
* SuccessionCrisis: With no heirs, his planet is on the verge of a crisis to determine who will rule after him.

An Amanto from Planet Beam, who leads the group known as the Firestarters. The people of Planet Beam make and sells beam weapons, but do not get involved in politics. However, the Firestarters actively provoke and start wars in order to profit from them with their beam weapons. When Hajime Obi ended up on Planet Beam after his teleportation accident, the Firestarters found him and saved his life by turning him into a cyborg. With the news of Earth proposing a ban of the sale of beam cannons, the Firestarters send Hajime Obi to Earth, armed with a beam cannon that will fire on the other planets to provoke a war if Earth does not pull back the proposed ban.

* ADayInTheSpotlight: He gets an episode where he helps liberate a planet from its rampant environmental computer. [[spoiler:It's really a hair growth shampoo commercial.]]

* DysfunctionalFamily: He blames himself for the current state of his family.

* MayflyDecemberRomance: [[spoiler:His wife Kouka was immortal as long as she remained on Kouan. She left with him to form a family, but sadly, she died in a few years due to the lack of Altana that kept her alive.]]

* MotherlySidePlait: She wore her hair in a single ponytail over one shoulder. Since she's Kagura and Kamui's MissingMom, this look just suits her all the more.

* DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou: He tries to justify his leaving (see below), but realizes that, for the most part, he was just being a coward. However, he feels no remorse over Kamui whom he considers a "disgraceful idiot".
* DisappearedDad: He is Kagura and Kamui's DisappearedDad. He left Kagura with her dying mother after an incident with Kamui, where Kamui tried to kill him, and Umibouzu tried the same in retaliation. The only thing stopping him from doing so was Kagura. He left, afraid that Kagura might one day turn on him too, and that he would kill his own daughter.

* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: For a long time he was only known as Umibouzu, but his real name is later revealed to be Kanko. Both Kagura and Kamui's names also contain the kanji for god (kami, 神).

Kagura and Kamui's mother, Kouka was a strong and beautiful yato. Like her other family members would she often hide her feelings behind sweet smiles.

Kanna is Kagura's daughter 2 years in the future. She strongly resembles her mother, especially her looks from the TimeSkip arc, although much younger. Kagura apparently gave birth to her [[Manga/{{Dragonball}} Piccolo]] style after eating too many bananas.
