Karmic Death and Laser Guided Karma seemingly shouldn't be listed when it’s sub-tropes are like Asshole Victim.

* KarmicDeath: Tucker has an excessive sense of self-importance behind his kindly façade, even going so far as to act as if the Elric brothers should not feel angry at him for turning his own wife and daughter into inhuman abominations. In turn, his death at Scar’s hand (literally) is almost laughably unceremonious; the latter just walks right up to him before delivering his signature CruelAndUnusualDeath.

* VillainousLegacy: It's later revealed that in the years between his first human chimera and fateful encounter with the Elrics, the Military improved on his experiments to create stronger, more powerful chimera troops. Ironically, this also had positive effects, as the first group became TrueCompanions to Greed, inspiring his HeelFaceTurn, while the second defected from the Military to help take down the Homunculi.

* RightForTheWrongReasons: He defends his creations by claiming that they represent a huge scientific breakthrough--and they are, or at least, his first one was. However, Tucker was arguing them to be a breakthrough because he was claiming he had created a fully-sapient chimera using exclusively nonsapient creatures, which would indeed be a breakthrough, but was absolutely not what had happened. Fundamentally, all he did in the field of creating sapient beings was take an existing sapient being and then turn them into a mentally-broken monster. But human transmutation was still fairly uncharted territory, and so Tucker's initial experiment ended up being helpful data for actual successful human chimeras by the government. The fact that Tucker didn't know about this is conveyed in how he presented his second experiment as an even bigger breakthrough than the first--moral abhorrence aside, it was at best a marginal improvement, and in a world where human chimeras that don't want to kill themselves exist, such a thing had no scientific value whatsoever.

Create another talking but primitive chimera, using his own five-year-old daughter and her dog, then show two guests the result. Two guests who had developed a close friendship with his daughter. WhatCouldPossiblyGoWrong It doesn't take long before the AwfulTruth comes out and he's stripped of his certification and faced with criminal charges. Then Scar hears of his crimes, hunts him down and kills him easily and unceremoniously, which wouldn't have happened as soon as it did if he hadn't turned his own daughter into a chimera in the first place.
** There's also the fact that, while his cover-up story that his wife had abandoned him and his daughter was believable because she was an independent adult, it would be much more difficult to cover up his five-year-old daughter's disappearance even if Ed hadn't figured it out.

Shou just crawls up to his nearly-broken State Alchemist pocket watch on the floor and happily declares that he'll get to keep his job. Ed immediately kicks the watch out of Tucker's hands, breaking it completely, and tells him point-blank that after what he did, there's no way in hell the military will continue employing him. Finally, Shou crawls whimpering to his pocket watch and clutches it in his arms like a parent would hold their baby, further cementing how Shou's status as a State Alchemist was more important to him than the well-being of his family.

* TooDumbToLive: Not only is this guy a vile scumbag, he's a complete idiot. He creates a talking but primitive chimera using his own wife as one of the life-forms fused to form it, and was incredibly "lucky" that all his suffering wife said as a chimera was "I want to die" before succumbing to voluntary starvation, as he would face criminal charges and almost certainly be executed--or at least sentenced to prison for life--if he was found out. Two years later, his State Alchemist certification earned from creating a talking chimera will expire unless he produces impressive bioalchemical results, so what does he decide would be a good idea? * YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: With the later revelation that the military had already succeeded in transmuting healthy human/animal chimeras by the time of Tucker's current assessment, it is heavily implied that this is the real reason why he was scheduled to be stripped of his state certification and court-martialed.

* SmallRoleBigImpact: She was a one episode character, but the Elric brothers' failure to save her acts as a constant reminder that they aren't infallible. Edward even references her in the penultimate episode, right before forfeiting his alchemy in exchange for Alphonse's human body. Alphonse later says in the final chapter that the incident still haunts the brothers, and they begin conducting alchemical research to find a way to return chimeras back to their original forms, so that what happened to Nina never happens again.

** In the Brotherhood anime, they add a scene after Ed's done beating the stuffing out of him and while Al's trying to comfort Nina/Alexander. Finally, Shou crawls wimpering to his pocket watch and clutches it in his arms like a parent would hold their baby, further cementing how Shou's status as a state alchemist was more important to him than the well-being of his family.
