A young man from Ilia, a wielder of [[InsistentTerminology Elder]] [[DarkIsNotEvil Magic]], and a seeker of knowledge. He meets Eliwood in the Port at Badon, where he offers his services to the group for the chance to see the Dread Isle.

* DoomedByCanon: Because Hugh's dad/Niime's son is explicitly dead in 6, his ending invariably has him and his wife killed [[{{Determinator}} trying to stop a snowstorm.]]

An honorable, high-ranking member of the Fang, and one of the Fang members closest to Brendan Reed's ideology. He is one of the nomads of Sacae, and as such he is an honest person who only does evil when it is necessary. Upon attacking the party, he finds something of a kindred spirit in Lyn, whom he holds hostage to get Eliwood and Hector's attention, but then releases, as he finds threatening a woman to be against his code of honor. [[spoiler:Upon his defeat, he recognizes the party as [[WorthyOpponent worthy opponents]], and points them to the Dragon's Gate]].

* ThoseTwoGuys: With Kent, again.

* EveryGirlIsCuterWithHairDecs: In her case, white feather.

* MoustacheOfFailedHeterosexuality: Not that it's a bad thing -- it gives him a sense of character, for instance.

* KickTheDog: [[spoiler His aforementioned murder of Leila.]]

* UndyingLoyalty: Definitely has this towards Nergal, considering that when he's given an order at one point, his only response is "Thy will be done". [[spoiler:Loses it later.]]
** [[spoiler:Or possibly just redirects it -- as seen above, both Legault and Matthew note that he would do anything to protect Nino.]]

* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards Nino. [[spoiler:Tragically subverted in "Cog Of Destiny", where he's willing to kill her simply by proxy of being in Eliwood's army. Unlike Lloyd, this conversation happens during battle, showing how unreasonable he's become.]]

* KickTheDog: She's rather sympathetic, but she's still pretty harsh to poor Nino. Though to her credit, she does say that she'll at least make Nino's death as brief and painless as possible ("Stupid girl... I'll see that you don't suffer, at least.")

* OneSceneWonder: Despite only appearing in one chapter, he's very unsettling and unforgettable. [[spoiler:He ''does'' appear again in the final chapter, but as a silent morph]].
** Unless you get Kenneth and manage to bypass him completely.

* MightyGlacier

* BlueOni: To his younger brother's red. Evident in his cool-headed manner which he mostly retains throughout his scenes. [[spoiler:Look at how he tries to negotiate with Lord Darin - given the circumstances, he had every right to be even angrier than he seemed.]]

* [[DefrostingIceQueen Defrosting Ice Lord]]: He hardened his heart against his daughter Madelyn's wishes, and [[IHaveNoSon renounced their relationship when she eloped]]. When he hears of her family in Sacae, he's determined to make ammends and [[spoiler:finally does when he meets Lyn, swallowing all his pride and admitting to his prior fault; hearing that Madelyn's life in Sacae was happy overjoys him and gives him peace.]]

* ManipulativeBastard.

The young son of Lord Elbert, Marquess Pherae, Eliwood grew up surrounded by the complex politics of the Lycian League. Under the watchful eye of his parents, OldRetainer Marcus and his father's close friends among the lords, he became an even-tempered and compassionate man, self-conscious and aware of the world. He met Lyn during her travels and provided her with crucial political aid which enabled her to unite with her grandfather. When his father disappeared a year later, he chose to search him out with the aid of a few trusted soldiers - and subsequently discovered evidence of a terrible plot that threatened the stability of not only Elibe, but of the entire world.

[[spoiler: Many years after the conclusion of the game, he is married (possibly to Ninian, Lyn, or Fiora) and fathers Roy, protagonist of ''Sword of Seals''.]]

* [[CallingTheOldManOut Calling The Old Woman Out]]: Not his own, but in what is probably his ''greatest'' display of Badassery, he [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome calls out *Queen Hellene of Bern* on her exploitative treatment of her son Prince Zephiel, even though they require her aid]]. For what it's worth, Pent and Louise both agree with him.

* EarlyBirdCameo: When he [[spoiler: rescues Ninian and aids Lyn politically]] in Lyn's Tale.

* FutureBadass: Becomes ruler of Pherae and a well-respected voice in the Lycian League

* HeroicBSOD: Has two: one when [[spoiler: his father dies]], and another when [[spoiler: he accidentally kills Ninian while she is in dragon form]]. To his everlasting credit, he does ''not'' allow his grief to consume him, and recovers quickly enough to rejoin the fight. In fact, in Hector's story, the chapters immediately following both BSODs actually ''make'' you use him to drive the point home. The man might be sensitive, but don't you ''dare'' accuse him of {{Wangst}}.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Hector

* IncorruptiblePurePureness: When you can [[spoiler: stare down a ruthless mass murderer; one who has no empathy for others; who has mocked you for accidentally killing a young girl you grew close to/fell in love with; and who tears down his former best friend while scoffing at the value of friendship, and ''still'' declare that you do not hate him for what he's done, but pity him instead]], then you ''know'' you're at least on the ''way'' towards this trope.
* KnightInShiningArmour: He seems to be one in the early stages of the game (though a less naive one than usual). As he bears witness to the more ruthless aspects of humanity during his journey, however, he becomes more of a ...

* ReluctantWarrior: He'll fight for the sake of justice and peace, but he doesn't particularly enjoy it - especially when innocents get involved in the "foolish politics" of nobles.

* RousseauWasRight: He seems to believe this, even after meeting many evil or unstable people on his journey. [[spoiler: At the end of the game he expresses his belief - towards the more [[JadeColouredGlasses jaded Nils and Ninian]] - that the day will eventually come when humans and dragons can together live in peace once more]].

* EarlyBirdCameo: He is in a house on the right side of the level where [[SpoonyBard Nils]] first joins the team. Of course if you have one of two [[StaffChick certain]] [[FragileSpeedster characters]] move on to the space where that house is located, then the scene has different dialogue.
* {{Expy}}: Once you look into it, you'll realize he has a lot of similarities to Lex from ''Genealogy of the Holy War''. [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair Blue hair]]? check. AnAxeToGrind? check. HotBlooded? check. LeeroyJenkins? check. Vaguely rebellious noble? Check.

* OverprotectiveDad: Read his and Eli's B support and you'll know why. [[spoiler: Sadly, doesn't prevent his death at Zephiel's hands in Sword of Seals. His FamousLastWords are a plea for Roy to help Lilina out.]]
* PapaWolf: Never ''ever'' slight one of his friends. And this doesn't only extend to Eliwood or Lyn, either. After all, he straight-up tells [[spoiler: Jaffar]] that he hasn't forgiven [[spoiler: his killing of Leila]], and says he'll kill him with his own hands if he steps out of line.
* ParentalAbandonment: His parents died of tuberculosis when he was a child, so his brother became a surrogate parent to him. [[spoiler: Uther later dies from the same illness]].

* PrecisionFStrike: Never lets loose any major swear words, but he curses quiet a lot in the story and is pretty creative with insults.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red Oni to Eliwood, Oswin ''and'' Uther.

Daughter of Madelyn, princess of Caelin, and Hassan, chief of the nomadic Lorca tribe, Lyn grew up without a care in the world on the plains of her father's homeland, Sacae. All of that changed when her home was pillaged by a brutal group of bandits, the Taliver, who left fewer than ten people alive. Forced to survive on her own, Lyn's life changes for the better when she comes across a [[HelloInsertNameHere certain strategist]], and before she knows it she is caught up in a game of war and political intrigue once she learns of her royal heritage. After thwarting the ambitions of her evil great uncle, Lundgren, Lyn lives in peace with her grandfather, Lord Hausen. That is, until a year later when Caelin becomes entangled in Nergal's scheme.

* RebelliousPrincess: Somewhat. She does make an effort to please the Caelin court but ultimately can't let go of her Sacaen instincts.

* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Wants to massacre the malicious Taliver bandits in retribution for the deaths of her family and fellow tribespeople. [[spoiler: In her A Support with Wallace, he reveals he's already done this so that she won't have to, and urges her to be happy they are dead, even if she didn't kill them personally]].

The Tactician was WalkingTheEarth to train his/her skills as a military strategist. He/She was ambushed by bandits and found by Lyn, who nursed him/her back to health. The Tactician would go on to join the armies of the Lords as their strategist. The Tactician is a stand-in for the [[PlayerCharacter player]] with no dialogue or characterization. Many of the cutscenes either take place from the Tactician's first person point of view or will show the back of the Tactician's head looking out into the scene as a psuedo first person point of view.

* AmbiguousGender: His[=/=]her sprite

* DemotedToExtra: Appears and is mentioned less and less nearly the middle and last quarter of the game, but lessened a bit at the very end. Yes, this game managed to [[MindScrew render the]] ''[[MindScrew player him/herself]]'' [[MindScrew to be of minimal importance to the overall plot.]]

** This actually does fit the intended purpose of the Tactician. The Tactician is supposed to be an EscapistCharacter for the player to project themselves into the game and if you play well in the game, the other characters will lavish praise on you.

* TheSmartGuy: Technically... unless you get a D/E rank in which even the ending sequence will mock you

* TheBigGuy: Being the most physically powerful of Lyn's core group of five, he fits this role best in "Lyndis' Legions"

* LargeHam: Especially once he realises that [[HappilyMarried Louise]] is the Countess of Reglay, and, thus, Pent's wife:

* TheChick: In Lyn's core five - doesn't stop her from being an efficient fighter though.

** She has RomanticTwoGirlFriendship vibes with Serra, Nino and Ninian too. In regards to Ninian, Flori's one of only ''three people'' she has supports with, and the only girl (the other two are Eliwood and Hawkeye). Let's face it, Florina is ''very'' good at this trope - probably comes from growing up with two older sisters who're pretty much nothing alike but who Florina loves equally anyway.

* MoeCouplet: Her supports with Lyn, Serra, Ninian and Nino not only multiply her own {{Moe}}, they help share it with the other girl. [[CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming The results are often spectacular.]]

* ShrinkingViolet: Mostly because she's been [[RaisedByDudes raised by ladies]] and the Pegasi Knight units are all-female squads for obvious reasons.

A young archer from Pherae, he left his village a few years ago to earn his fortune. Met Lyn in a squabble with some bandits in Bern, and after defeating them he joined her retinue - even coining the name 'Lyndis' Legions'. [[spoiler: He's the childhood friend of Rebecca and her brother Dan, the latter of whom he left with before they were separated.]]

* TheDitz: Especially emphasised in his supports with Raven, though it may just be that he's contrasted with one of the game's most unhappy characters.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Some of his Supports reveal he's quite unsure of himself and really lacking confidence. Nonetheless this also gives him vibes of ...

* [[spoiler: MyGreatestFailure: He's so ashamed of having left his family without warning and not even fulfilling his motivations for doing so, that he hasn't made contact with them in five years - even though he told Lyn he'd send word. Finally does so with some persuasion from Lyn, in their A Support]].
* NiceGuy: One of the most stable and all-around 'normal' characters in the game. He's even implied to get along fairly well with Florina, even though they don't exactly fall on the right end of the Weapon's spectrum ...

* [[spoiler: VictoriousChildhoodFriend: With Rebecca, if they get an A Support]].
* WhatTheHellHero: [[spoiler: Rebecca calls him out for leaving his home behind and never making contact with her or his family. It works]].

* HonourBeforeReason: In his Supports with [[spoiler: Farina, he insists on making enough money to pay her back for her charity, even those she's initially willing to let him be]].

* PapaWolf: Is initially willing to do anything, no matter how bad, to help his wife. Lyn only snaps him out of it by persuading him that his wife would not forgive him for it. Even then, he [[spoiler: declines an offer by Oswin to join Ostia's knights, stating that he fights only for his wife.]]

* WellIntentionedExtremist: At first - he almost became a KnightTemplar over it. Lyn managed to talk him out of it, though.

A loud, obnoxious priestess in service to Ostia who hired Erk to be her escort. They met Lyn and joined her party after dealing with a group of bandits near the Bern border. She later joins Eliwood's party by proxy of joining Hector on his quest. Although she many characters (and gamers) find her intolerable, she has pains within that she hides from the world ...

* ShipperOnDeck: Her supports with Sain show her as vying for a LoveTriangle between Hector, Eliwood and Lyndis.

* BodyguardCrush: Sort of inverted example with Priscilla, though he eventually catches on as well.

The son of Dayan, tribal leader of the Kutolah Tribe in Sacae. He was [[spoiler: sent away from his tribe as a child due to a prophecy stating that he would play an important role in saving the world]]. Eventually became Captain of the Palace Guard at Araphen, where he met Lyn during a attack by Lundgren. He joined her party after witnessing the extent of his liege lord's bigotry, and disappeared after her defeat of Lundgren - before re-emerging as a mercenary and rejoining the group on her behalf.

* BecauseDestinySaysSo: [[spoiler:When his tribe's diviner saw a dark omen in the stars, Rath, as the Chieftan's son, was required to leave so that he would help prevent it coming to pass. Needless to say, he does.]].

* DefectorFromDecadence: Of a sort - he served as Captain of the Guard at Araphen until he realised his liege-lord would never see Sacaens as anything but savages, [[YouAreACreditToYourRace in spite of his exception in Rath's case]].

* [[spoiler: ParentalAbandonment: He was sent out of his tribe - before he was even ''four'' - because, as the Chieftan's son, he had a duty to prevent the world's destruction]].

* AntiHero: [[SlidingScaleOfAntiHeroes Shades of Type II]] due to some... questionable lactions he takes. Overall, though, he's a pretty swell guy

* GuileHero: Demonstrated most strongly in the first chapter of Hector's story - sensing the Fang assassins in the castle, and knowing that they wouldn't show themselves until Hector was alone, he seemed to leave immediately after Hector refuses his aid (knowing full well he'd be turned down), and reappeared only after they'd revealed themselves to Hector. When Hector confronts him over it, he openly confessed as much.

* DoomedByCanon: Implied. [[spoiler: Starts an orphanage in Araphen in his ending. In ''Sword of Seals'' Lugh used to live in an orphanage in Araphen and it is explained that the Father who took care of it was killed by Bern's troops for resisting.]]

A young and cute ministrel who works as a travelling performer with his beautiful older sister, Ninian. They seem to have ''really'' lousy luck, however, as a mysterious group is hell-bent into capturing them for Gods-know-what purposes. After Lyn and Eliwood help to rescue Ninian, they stay with the group until Lyndis reclaims her place in Caelin, then they leave quietly... and are soon back to their runaway status, due to their mysterious past and link to the mysterious Black Fang.

Said past is as follows: [[spoiler: Nils and Ninian are the offspring of a dragon woman and a human man. During The Scouring, their mother Aenir was taken away and their dad went missing in search of her, so they crossed the Dragons's Gate with their people. However, they were summoned back by a mysterious man - Nergal, the lead of the organization that wants them.]]

* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight:

* TookALevelInBadass: According to his supports with [[spoiler: Renault]], he was a CuteShotaroBoy as a kid and even bullied because of that. And 30 years later, he's a HUGE Badass.

* YoungerThanTheyLook: His supports with [[spoiler: Renault]] say he's just 40! Really!

* ParentalSubstitute: Mixes this with being TheMentor. When Eliwood's parents were otherwise occupied with their duties, the child Eliwood would always follow Marcus around - something Marcus likes to remind his young liegelord of to teasingly embarrass him. He's also a source of emotional comfort for Eliwood to turn to even now, such as when he reassures Eliwood that the concern he's feeling about [[spoiler: his father's possible involvement with the Fang]] is really just concern for his father's safety.

* JackOfAllStats: Among all the cavaliers and paladins in-game, he's actually the most well-balanced statistically, with only his Magical Defence being poor (and that's just par the course for them, anyway).

* BirdsOfAFeather: With Nino. They're the same age, they like food, and discuss their crushes together ([[spoiler: Jaffar]] or Erk, for Nino; either Wil, Lowen or Sain, for Rebecca.)

* CharacterExaggeration: Has something of a reputation for it in fanfiction, unfortunately - while Bartre's not the brightest character, he's not as stupid as some people would [[{{Flanderization}} make him out to be]]. It's pretty jarring to see him unable to speak in complete sentences when it's clear that he's able to do so.

* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler: Was trusted by Uther to keep his failing health and eventual death a secret from Hector until after the conflict was over. Despite his best efforts, however, his silence eventually clued Hector in - and it took Hector a few chapters to forgive him for it]].
** His support with [[spoiler: Priscilla]] also reveals he was also trusted with information regarding [[spoiler: the deaths of Marquess Cornwell and his wife]], including that [[spoiler:they were DrivenToSuicide, and not slaughtered by Ostia for their land as Raven believes.]]

* TheDeterminator: His spirit, eagerness and unwillingness to give up ''or'' just roll over and die - as he shows in his Supports with Matthew - are quite impressive, so much that Matthew promises he'll be rooting for him to succeed in his dream.

** It helps that they're both Sacaens, which gives them some relatable similarities to balance out their differences (for instance, they're both from the Kutolah Tribe, and Guy was rather curious to meet up with the son of the Siver Wolf.).

* MoustacheOfFailedHeterosexuality: Not that it's a bad thing - it gives him a sense of character, for instance.
* UndyingLoyalty: To both Eliwood and Hector - at the endgame, he [[CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming refuses to go to Ostia and serve another master, and promises to wait for the two of them on Valor even if it means waiting forever]]. For being something of a coward, that's some mighty fine devotion.

!!Lady Priscilla of Caerleon [[spoiler: Alias Lady Priscilla of Cornwell.]]

The kind-hearted [[spoiler: adopted]] daughter of House Caerleon, Priscilla is first encountered travelling with Erk, who is escorting her on a journey to locate her estranged older brother [[spoiler: and learn the truth about her origins]].

** [[spoiler: FallenPrincess (the Cornwell clan was destituted and destroyed around the time she was adopted by the Carleons.]]
** StarCrossedLovers: All the guys that can develop crushes on her have to leave her because of her ultra high status. [[spoiler: Except for Erk, who bypasses it thanks to his links to Pent and Louise]]

!!Raven [[spoiler: alias Lord Raymond of Cornwell]]

A sword-wielding mercenary working for Caelin at the time of it's siege by Laus. He is served by Lucius, who is the only person entrusted with his true identity.

* BadassBookworm: He reads books (non-spellcasting) in the middle of the battlefield

* DarkIsNotEvil: Though he is the only "good" dark magician in the game (not including [[spoiler: Athos]]), he often stresses that the correct term is "elder magic", and it is merely a type of arcane magic that is more powerful but much more difficult to control, rather than being outright evil.

* IntelligenceEqualsIsolation: Despite being one of the kindest guys around, his devotion the family tradition of dark magic has caused him to inadvertently distance himself from others. Nino calls him out on it.

The right-hand man of Fargus, a HotBlooded man who loves battle and sightseeing as much as his leader. [[spoiler: He is pretty much stated to be Rebecca's lost older brother Dan, who left home in search of adventure years ago.]]

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Not really a ''jerk'', per se, just impolite and a bit discourteous - still, he asked Lyn to help him with the unconscious Ninian during the "Pirate Ship" chapter, showing he has a sense of propriety.

An enigmatic man who has just left the black Fang for reasons known only to him, and is found looting the ruins of the Dragon's Gate. When confronted by the Lords, he decides to join their party, ''also'' for reasons known only to him.

* BiTheWay: Possibly, if his supports with Heath are any indication.
** Let's not forget what he says to [[spoiler: Morph!Lloyd]]:

He is one of the nomads of Sacae, and as such he is an honest person who only does evil when it is necessary. Upon attacking the party, he finds something of a kindred spirit in Lyn, whom he holds hostage to get Eliwood and Hector's attention, but then releases, as he finds threatening a woman to be against his code of honor. Many of the cutscenes either take place from the Tactician's first person point of view or will show the back of the Tactician's head looking out into the scene as a psuedo first person point of view.
