* HairDecorations: She wears a white lace headband

The Seventh Master, with the title of Princes. The daughter of a magus, her father and older sister Manaka died in the previous Holy Grail War and she now lives by herself. Suffers from low self-esteem and low talent in her family's magic. Summons the Servant Saber after being attacked by Lancer.

* ParentalAbandonment: Her father is dead [[spoiler:by the hands of her sister Manaka]], and her mother is mentioned in the prequel novels to have passed away some time after giving birth to Ayaka.

* {{Curse}}: Was a victim of one as a kid [[spoiler: which is said to come from her father, who casted it while dying ''"Die if you do not become a Master and get the Grail"''.]] [[spoiler: It wasn't that easy: he apparently was mindcontrolled into cursing her, then attempted to undo the curse with no success, and then was killed by the real culprit: Paracelsus, who betrayed the Reiroukans and put the mindcontrol on his master. Misaya later fell victim to it.]]

* {{Sadist}}: She's a noblewoman with a sadistic streak. Her motivation for summoning Cu Chulainn as her choice of Heroic Spirit is fueled by the knowledge that he was defeated by a woman in his lore and wanted to him to know "how scary a woman can be".

The Absolute Void master, with the title of Absence. Supposedly a member of the Church's Assembly of the 8th Sacrement, he is in fact a member of an organization known as the [[UsefulNotes/TheKnightsTemplar Order of the Templars]] (presumably a splinter group) and is one of their top heretic hunters. His title comes from the fact that he's actually an anomaly in the Holy Grail War, being the eighth Master out of seven. His Servant is Berserker.

The First Master, with the title of Seraphim. The older sister of Ayaka, she had immense talent as a magus, and participated in the previous Holy Grail War eight years ago. Although she was killed during the war, she was resurrected by the Grail. Her prior Servant was Saber, and her current Servant is the Beast.

* ChildProdigy: She was only 13-14 during ''Fragments'' but was considered an exceptionally talented magus for her age, with her rank as Master in that War acknowledging this. It's noted that she has an innate connection to [[AkashicRecords the Root]], and that she had few magic circuits in her but they were ''absolutely'' unrivaled in regards to quality.

* FeminineWomenCanCook: Some time before the Grail War took place, since their mother passed away after Ayaka's birth. From then on, the very girlish Manaka handled most of the housework; she's certainly seen [[http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130712150129/typemoon/images/a/aa/Manakasilver1.jpg making breakfast]] in some illustrations.
* ForTheEvulz: In ''Fragments'', some of the actions she takes can fall into category due to them having no real motive aside from the fact that she can.

* GoOutWithASmile: [[spoiler:When Saber [[BodyguardBetrayal rebelled against Manaka's orders]] and stabbed her to death in the First War, she couldn't properly process it, and thus died smiling sweetly at him.]]

* OlderThanTheyLook: Though he's described as looking like a ten year old at best, [[spoiler:Isemi is revealed in ''Fragments'' to have been around long enough that he was considered to be a Master-Candidate for his clan during the First Holy Grail War.]]

The fifth-Ranked Master with the title of Virtues. A rich business man/magus who owns a skyscraper in Tokyo.

* TheAntiNihilist: Saber is overflowing with hope and determination, and is sworn to fight for protection of the world's future, making him a rather stark contrast than how FSN-Saber was. [[spoiler: He started out much more similarly to her, however, before the young Ayaka made him understand that he didn't need to spend his days mourning his Britain and trying to undo the past.]]

* WouldHitAGirl: He has no qualms about hitting the opposite sex. [[spoiler:In the prequels, he's responsible for taking out both Lancer and Assassin, the only two female Servants in the First Holy Grail War, as well as having no problems stabbing Manaka from behind after discovering the true nature of the Holy Grail and what she plans on doing with it]].

* AdaptationalBadass: Mild example. Compared to FSN-Gilgamesh whose preferred combat style is to simply shoot everything to death, Proto-Gilgamesh actually prefers to deal with his opponents up close and personal (with his version of the Gate of Babylon acting as a sort of sidearm) thus averting the glaring weakness that his counterpart had in the melee department. He's even good enough to give Saber a hard time as seen in the OVA.

* BlingOfWar: [[WalkingShirtlessScene While exposing his top]], Proto-Gilgamesh's Servant attire actually comes off as just as fancy, if not even more so, than FSN-Gilgamesh by being more intricately designed in comparison.
* BloodKnight: In comparison to his FSN-Gilgamesh, he's thrilled at the idea of the Holy Grail War, where various heroes of legend get to do battle against each other for the sake of the ultimate prize.

* HyperspaceArsenal: Bab-ilu: Key of the King's Law, allows him to access his endless treasury.

* ItsAllAboutMe: So, Arthur is a man in this iteration, which means Gil isn't going to be infatuated with him. What then draws him to Saber in this instance? Because, despite being ''[[WorldsStrongestMan Gilgamesh]]'', he isn't the top-ranking Heroic Spirit in this world, or even the second; he is the ''third'', behind Arthur and Heracles. Gil isn't taking that sitting down, and so throws down the gauntlet with the Holy Sword Wielder to prove he is the best of them all.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he's still arrogant and possessive of Ayaka, he gives Saber an elixir that can cure any poison or disease so he can cure Ayaka (not without a fight, because hey, it ''is'' the Holy Grail War and Gil loves fighting Saber, but he's still perfectly willing to part with it ''and'' even if Saber had lost, it's all but certain Archer would've gone and tended to Ayaka anyway) and just in general he seems a lot more sensible than his ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' counterpart.

* LoveAtFirstSight: With Ayaka, he claims she's more beautiful than the women of his own kingdom. Unlike his ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' counterpart, he doesn't act like Ayaka is a possession, and in fact tries to court her. This is probably why ''F/SN'' Gil is often mentioned as having surprisingly high compatibility with Rin in supplementary materials, and relatedly why Ishtar appears looking like Rin in ''Grand Order'' - it's all echoes of Gil's attraction to Ayaka.
* MadeOfIron: One of his original Noble Phantasms mentioned in material is the ability to "Absolutely Survive". It's currently unknown whether or not he still has this ability in the final product, but it's worth noting that he survives ''getting cleaved in half'' by [[WaveMotionSword Saber's Excalibur]] during their climactic battle against each other. That alone should say something about his durability.

* NoOneCouldSurviveThat: In the climax of his battle with Saber, the partially-unsealed Excalibur tears through his Enki and carves Gilgamesh himself right down the middle. [[spoiler: Not only does Gilgamesh manage to ''survive'' this, he takes Heracles head-on despite his condition, in what would later become EMIYA's battle against the Berserker in ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'', killing the "Strongest Hero" and ridding Ayaka and Lancer of their greatest obstacle in saving Arthur from Sancraid Phahn.]]

* SwissArmyWeapon: Enki, which normally functions as a pair of dual swords and act as a bow when both swords are joined together at the pommel. It can also turn into a pair of Tonfa-Style weapons as revealed in material.

* AnimalMotif: Of a Hunting Dog much like his counterpart, but he's a bit closer to a wolf (even wears a protective amulet in shape of a wolf's head with a crescent moon in its mouth).

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: As a non-human being that exists to devour others, it has no real concept of good or evil. To it all the sacrifices are simply tasty and delicious food.

* EldritchAbomination: Its true form is the red seven headed, ten horned Beast ridden by the golden Whore of Babylon. Its initial form is a sea of black mud that is desperately attempting to give shape to its body, starting with its seven brains and jaws.

* SevenDeadlySins: Unlike the normal Evils of Humanity it represents an actual human sin, in this case {{Greed}}.

* SoleSurvivor: [[spoiler:Not counting Manaka who gets revived later on, Elza is the only survivor among the seven Masters of the First Holy Grail War.]]

* WarIsHell: Having gone to war torn countries as part of her job, she has nothing but distaste for it.

* InformedAbility: As the third-ranked Master among the seven, he could be considered the third best mage among the lot yet is unable to show off any of his abilities [[spoiler:as Caster betrays him for Manaka]].

* SmallNameBigEgo: Having come from a small time magus family, he was intent on winning the Holy Grail War and making a name for himself but gets offed by Assassin minutes after summoning her.

The daughter of Odin who became mortal. She fell in love with and killed Sigurd after he lost his memories of her and married her as part of a plan. Her master is Nigel Saward.

* ActionGirl: Perhaps one of the strongest Servants in the First Holy Grail War. [[{{Yandere}} And she gets stronger the more she loves her opponent]].

* BornUnlucky: [[RunningGag Much like other Lancers in the franchise]] Brynhild's luck rank is very low. In fact, it tops out at E. Considering what happens to her by the end of ''Fragments'' and afterwards, [[UpToEleven it could even be said that she has ''the worst'' luck among them all]].
* {{BFS}}: Not only is her spear large, it also grows larger and heavier the more she loves her opponent.

* ThePowerOfLove: Her Spear Noble Phantasm is powered by love. If she loves something the more powerful it is and more damage it does to the target. She loves almost everything in the world on some level except for [[BigBad Manaka]] and can't harm the evil dragon she sees before her.

* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:Being subjected to Nigel's love potion and her father Odin forcing her to take action against Manaka does a number on her psyche which resulted in her going on rampage. Luckily, she's able to snap out of it long enough to let Saber kill her.]]
* SecondLove: While she gets heated over anybody who reminds her of Sigurd, [[spoiler: she genuinely falls for Arthur at some point after he cut he down to save Tokyo in the interim while her soul remained with the other in the Greater Grail. Which becomes [[{{Yandere}} very unfortunate]] when she's [[SuperpoweredEvilSide revived through the black mud of it.]]]]

* {{Yandere}}: One of the first and most famous examples, but also weaponized. Her spear becomes heavier and more powerful the more she loves the target. She loves nature, the world and all people to a certain extent, but against heroes, who can swiftly evoke powerful feelings in her, it becomes extremely powerful. She's basically a Hero-Killer, especially to those who remind of her Sigurd. Arthur in particular evokes it the strongest among the Servants. [[spoiler: Come the epilogue set during the final act of Prototype's story, wherein she and the other first-war participants are revived as Alters, and this trope is in full effect, with Brynhildr being wholly in love with Arthur rather than just projecting Sigurd onto him, and wanting to kill him no less.]]

Arash is a famed bowman sung in Persian myths, who accomplished the great feat of saving thousands of people during battle.

* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Another illustration shows them [[https://36.media.tumblr.com/48ee8f99970cf0fb67f1e65f62828aaf/tumblr_nstiizZJcL1rye1gyo1_1280.jpg happily drinking beer]] with his Master, Elza. It includes a bit of FridgeBrilliance: Arash is a hero of Iranian oral tradition and folklore, and beer was already being produced in the lands now occupied by the modern Iran around 3,500 BC.
* TooAwesomeToUse: His Noble Phantasm, the usage of which costs him his life.

The Egyptian Pharoah commonly associated with [[Literature/TheBible Moses]].

* DramaPreservingHandicap: To even make it possible for Saber to defeat Rider, Manaka has his Master's entire clan murdered [[spoiler: with the help of Assassin's poison]]. Rider is still so invincible that [[spoiler: Saber had the full assistance of Lancer, Archer and Caster, and even then only Arash's suicidal Noble Phantasm could even the odds enough for Excalibur to match Ramesses' Dendera Light.]]
* {{Expy}}: Of [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Gilgamesh]], as he is a Heroic Spirit from a distant time period, having been a ruler in his life, arrogance that belies HiddenDepths, as well as being incredibly powerful.

** Nasu mentioned that, in his original vision of ''LightNovel/FateZero'', Iskander would have had an arrogant and narcissistic streak not unlike the future [[VideoGame/FateExtra Red Saber]] - however, Creator/GenUrobuchi wrote a far more charismatic version that Nasu liked so much that he shelved his Iskander in favor of Urobuchi's. Given his own temperament as well as the niche of being a powerful Rider-class king, it's easy to say that Ozymandias ''is'' this original vision of Iskander, albeit applied to a different historical figure.

The main character of Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

* DoNotGoGentle: [[spoiler:Rather than allowing himself to simply vanish after Tatsumi is killed, Berserker instead opts to go out swinging and does so by attempting to take out take out Caster's Master himself in one last charge. Unfortunately for him, he fails.]]

One of the Nineteen Individuals to have taken up the identity of Hassan-I-Sabbah.

* PoisonousPerson: Her Noble Phantasm (named ''Zabaniya: Delusional Poison Body'') and main shtick, as her entire body is so toxic that touching it is an almost instant death to humans.

An alchemist from the Renaissance period and the one responsible both for creating the Alchemic system that is used by most alchemists of the modern era, as well as creating the Azoth sword.

* AlchemyIsMagic: Considered the father of modern alchemy. He in turn considers all alchemists to be his children.

* WaveMotionSword: His Noble Phantasm, the Sword of Paracelsus, functions as this. [[spoiler: Unfortunately for him, it's not enough to take down Saber]].

* UsedToBeASweetKid: When she was just a child back in ''Fragments'', while still bearing the same haughtiness as her older self, Misaya was an innocent and somewhat naive young girl who was kind and trusting towards nearly everybody. [[spoiler: Paracelsus's betrayal of her and her father [[TookALevelInJerkass changed all of that.]]]]

* CainAndAbel: The Cain to Ayaka's Abel [[spoiler: complete with attempted [[SiblingMurder Sororicide]] in ''Fragments'']].

* AdultFear: In Volume 5 of Fragments, he admits to Saber that he's concerned for Ayaka's safety should another Holy Grail War occur during her lifetime and her being forced to participate. Unfortunately for him, his fears end up coming true.

* PosthumousCharacter: Died in the previous war. [[spoiler: At the hands of Manaka herself.]]

* SharedFamilyQuirks: As mentioned above, she and her sister are both NightmareFetishist in their own right. Difference is that for Ayaka, it's merely a hobby and likely part of her upbringing as a magus daughter while for Manaka it becomes ''much'' more real.

* InTheHood: His Servant attire features one. Most notably he puts it on when he [[spoiler: killed Manaka and unleashes Excalibur-Proto on the partially awakened Beast of Revelation at the end of Fragments]].

* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: Much like [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Artoria]], Saber desires to save Britain. But as revealed in the prequel novels, the way he goes about it actually helps differentiate the two. Whereas Artoria initially wishes to redo her rule and later changes it to wishing someone else had become King, Arthur desires to create "an eternal kingdom of peace where the people no longer have to suffer". [[spoiler: After meeting the young Ayaka in Fragments, however, Arthur decides to abandon the idea of changing the past, and work to protect the world in the here and now, that it may one day become the kind of world he dreamed of.]]

Arthur is also hampered by the fact that Ayaka is one of the weakest Masters, same way how Artoria is hampered by Shirou's own ineptitude as a Master. Outside of their story roles, she's also a specialist type of magus whose talent lies in a field of magecraft that is considered basics for most magi [[note]]Projection for Shirou, Formalcraft for Ayaka[[/note]] and both only really discover said talent through someone spurring them on. [[note]]EMIYA and Arthur respectively[[/note]]
** In regards to Rin, she's the daughter of a magus family that was torn apart thanks to the past Holy Grail War, ending up an orphan as a result and living in BigFancyHouse by herself all the while being acquainted with a Catholic Priest who later turns on her. Physically, she and Rin even look similar to each other. The latter even wears glasses at times, increasing said resemblance. Both also use "magic bullet" like attacks [[note]]Gandr shots for Rin, Black Feathers for Ayaka[[/note]] and live a dual life of being a struggling magus and a student. It's even stated in material that Ayaka's initial relationship with Saber resembles the one Rin would have with Archer. It's also worth noting that both girls are {{Tsundere}} towards their respective love interests, especially when Ayaka's glasses are off.
** As for Sakura, Ayaka happens to be the second daughter of her family much like her and has low self-esteem thanks to her much more talented older sister. Ayaka also gets sick at one point, much like how Sakura gets sick during ''Heaven's Feel''.
** It may be coincidential but appearance-wise Ayaka is similar to [[LightNovel/KaraNoKyoukai Shiki Ryougi]] minus the Mystic Eyes. This beomes more noticeable [[TheGlassesComeOff once she stops wearing glasses]].

* {{Expy}}: While Ayaka is the actual character prototype of Rin Tohsaka, Misaya is the prototype of the ''role'' Rin would later hold - which makes it amusing that Rin was saved by her canon's Lancer. At the same time, her [[spoiler: YourDaysAreNumbered status is seemingly carried over to the eventual fate of Illyasviel von Einzbern (homunculus with a limited lifespan)]].
** She even shares Rin's background as revealed in ''Fragments'': she's a haughty young lady with immense talent whose father was killed and betrayed by someone he trusted, and her mother dies sometime after the previous Grail War before Misaya participated in the next one.

* {{Expy}}: He would eventually evolve into the character of Kirei Kotomine, although "the priest" underwent the heaviest revisions of almost anyone out of the Proto cast on the way to ''F/SN''; Kirei shares very few character elements with Sancraid.

** She was split into Ilya [[note]]older than she looks, pale and cute but still dangerous and with a warped sense of affection[[/note]] and [[spoiler: Dark Sakura]] [[note]](connection to [[spoiler: the Grail]])[[/note]], and some parts of her backstory were incorporated into Kotomine[[note]](being revived [[spoiler: by the Grail]])[[/note]], [[LightNovel/KaraNoKyoukai Ryougi Shiki]] and [[VisualNovel/TsukiHime Aoko Aozaki]] [[note]](innate connection to the Root and having few but super efficient circuits, respectively)[[/note]].
** In a sense, she's also one for Altrouge Brunestud. Both have a "sister" they have a bad relationship with, and both act as the master [[spoiler:of a Beast]].

* {{Expy}}: He's more like Shirou than his female counterpart - he notably ''smiles'' at Ayaka when he's first summoned, and says he's there to protect her.[[note]]Compare the female Saber, who stoically asks Shirou if he is her Master. Significantly, [[AngstWhatAngst he also doesn't seem to have any lingering regrets about his rule of Britain]] unlike the ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' Saber, which harkens a lot more from Shirou in the ''Unlimited Blade Works'' route--[[TheAntiNihilist he may be less-naive about the world and heroism, but he holds on to his ideals anyway]]. [[/note]] He also has some traits in common with Archer and his relationship with Ayaka is even described as being similar to that of Rin and Archer - at least at first.
** He also holds shades of Kiritsugu Emiya [[spoiler:as it was his meeting with the young child who would become the next Grail War's "Master of Saber" that saved his heart.]]

* {{Expy}}:
** He's essentially a composite of ''two'' Archers from the final work: while he eventually mutated into the Gilgamesh we all know and love, he also has elements of the primary Archer, being a dual-wielder who makes an epic stand against Berserker.
** He also has a bit in common with [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight FSN-Lancer]], being a combat-lover and all.

* {{Expy}}: Mostly unchanged from his ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' counterpart, but he is somewhat a bit similar to Shirou, as he's not mature enough to admit the world’s injustices and the values of good and evil.

* {{Expy}}: Rider is a somewhat more complicated example than the other characters listed here, as it is unclear how much of his role in ''Old Fate''[[note]]The original draft for both ''Stay Night'' and ''Prototype'' where his identity was originally Theseus.[[/note]]was preserved in ''Prototype'' and how much of it was taken from FSN-Rider due to his changed identity. What is apparent, however, is that he bares something of a resemblance to Shinji, notably his wavy hair, and how he's apparently someone that Ayaka is personally acquainted with but later ends up fighting during the Holy Grail War. In VisualNovel/FateHollowAtaraxia, Rider calls Perseus a successful version of Shinji, though its unclear how much of that is based on truth, and how much of it is Rider holding a grudge for him killing her, as unlike Shinji, Perseus is a genuine NiceGuy.

** Naturally, this is the character that eventually became Avenger Angra Mainyu. The biggest difference is that the Beast is the intentional product of the Grail, while Avenger corrupting the Grail was wholly unintentional.
** Furthermore, the concept of a "Beast" class which embodied a sin of humanity would lurk in the background of ''Fate'' works for a decade (and is even somewhat there in ''stay night'' and ''Hollow Ataraxia''), before the concept returned in full in ''Fate/Grand Order'', to the point that Proto-Arthur's introduction to that game seems to be hinting at this Beast making an appearance there as well.
** Extra materials for Prototype reveal he's also the prototype for the being known as the Beast IV [[spoiler:Primate Murder and that both rule over primates]]. The biggest differences being that their appearances are not confirmed to be anything alike and that he two represent different sins. Later on however, both FGO and the final volume of Fragments later retcons it into being Beast VI.

* {{Expy}}: Appearance wise, he looks bit like [[LightNovel/KaraNoKyoukai Araya Souren]].

* {{Expy}}: He's the original concept of Kiritsugu Emiya, being the father of the main protagonist who died years before the story takes place. He also serves as one for [[LightNovel/FateZero Tokiomi Tohsaka]] as well since his relationship with his daughters somewhat resembles the one Tokiomi had with his.

* AGodAmI: Being an Emperor, he believes himself and others of like him such as Arthur to be gods on earth.
