The Five Dragon Gods are five insurmountably powerful dragons that inhabit the mysterious land of Guiltina, each rumored to rival the might of Acnologia himself. The goal of Fairy Tail's [[Manga/FairyTail100YearsQuest Century Quest]] is to seal these dragons away, but no one has ever managed to face them and live to tell about it in over 160 years.

However, it's believed that they will stir when something "massive" happens, and their capacity for cataclysmic destruction is precisely why Elefseria wants to make sure they're contained. Dragon God Ignia himself implies that "something" is actually Acnologia's death, [[TheDreaded as he's the reason they fled to Guiltina and went into hiding.]]

* MotiveDecay: They originally fled to Guiltina in hopes of someday growing strong enough to challenge Acnologia, but in the intervening years, most of them have seemingly abandoned this goal (Mercphobia is more interested in ruling Ermina, while Aldoron is content with acting as the foundation for several towns) with the only exception being [[BloodKnight Ignia]]. [[spoiler:When Natsu tries to hit him with [[FinishingMove Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade]], doing this not only lets him avoid damage, but it also lets him extinguish Natsu's fire]].
* FacialMarkings: He has a serpentine-shaped tattoo around his right eye. [[spoiler:His dragon form has similar tattoos around his face.]]
* AGodIAmNot: He's pretty upfront about the fact he doesn't consider himself a god despite his power and the people of Ermina's worship of him. In fact, he had no intentions of being worshiped as such and outright considers the past "miracles" they worship him for as atrocities.
* TheGoodKing: Technically the GodIsGood of Ermina from their standpoint, but he seems to view himself more like this. His underwater palace contains massive gardens that distribute food to the city, a medical facility for the fish and humans-turned-fish, and a watchtower with which he can spot and rescue shipwrecked sailors. He's also very reasonable and protective of his people, to the point he used transformation magic to ensure they wouldn't be drowned by the unnatural high tide [[spoiler:caused by his powers]]. Natsu's team honestly question if he's really supposed to be some sort of terrifying world-destroying dragon.
* TheGreatFlood: According to him, this is what his PowerIncontinence ultimately risks doing if it continues.
* HornedHumanoid: His human form has a noticeable set of curved horns coming out of his head, which are also present on his dragon form.

* MakingASplash: When he makes his grand appearance, he quite literally ''splits the ocean apart''. [[spoiler:And when he gets serious fighting Natsu and company, he lifts all the water out of the sea surrounding Ermina into the sky and creates giant whirlpools out of it. When Gray tries to freeze his attacks, he just instantly turns it back into water.]]
* MeaningfulName: The first half of this dragon's name comes from the Roman god Mercury[[note]]specifically the Japanese transliteration of his Roman name, "Mercurius"[[/note]], while the planet Mercury is known in Japanese as the "Water Star". The "phobia" half is [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast a suffix used to describe a specific fear]], essentially making his name a roundabout way of saying "fear of water". According to himself, he very much put exactly that in his enemies back in the past.

Natsu using Fire Dragon King's Roar and Fist? Mercphobia overpowers the former with his own BreathWeapon and tanks the latter with no visible effect. Gray freezing his attacks? He just turns it back into water. Natsu hitting him point-blank with [[FinishingMove Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade]]? Mercphobia [[DoubleSubverted noticeably pauses...and then extinguishes Natsu's fire]] and revealing he turned his body into water to absorb the blow before trying to suck him into a whirlpool.]]

His underwater palace contains massive gardens that distribute food to the city, a medical facility for the fish and humans-turned-fish, and a watchtower with which he can spot and rescue shipwrecked sailors. He's also very reasonable and protective of his people, to the point he used transformation magic to ensure they wouldn't be drowned by the unnatural high tide [[spoiler:caused by his powers]]. Natsu's team honestly question if he's really supposed to be some sort of terrifying world-destroying dragon.
