* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Adagio is either indifferent or frustrated with her other sisters in canon. Here, Adagio expresses a bit more care for them, such as when she genuinely considers Sonata's crush on Flash.

* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Subverted; in the final chapter of ''Legend of Everfree'' he tells Sci-Twi that he is okay with her being with Flash, saying he was too hard on him before and he ''did'' save his life. But once she leaves, he reveals to Gloriosa that he is just "out-humbling" Flash by being willing to give Sci-Twi up like he was, and believes a relationship between them won't last so he will swoop in and help Sci-Twi through their "break up".

* OutOfFocus: Downplayed. While they are still major characters in their respective stories, they get a bit less focus than Flash Sentry, Twilight Sparkle, and Sunset Shimmer. A large part of this can be due to the fact that the stories focus a few more scenes on the aforementioned characters. The ''EQG Chronicles'' series is meant to correct this.
* ShipperOnDeck: All of them act like this for Flash and Twilight.

* BerserkButton: Don't diss Metal music in front of Iron Core.
* CompositeCharacter: They take the role that the Human Flash's canon band, Flash Drive, had in canon of supporting Princess Twilight and falling under the Dazzling's spell, since Human Flash was absent until ''Friendship Games'' and his canon bandmates, Brawly and Ringo, have been AdaptedOut.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Along with Fluttershy, Iron plays a leading role in the subplot of the ''Friendships and Romance'' two-parter.
* HappilyAdopted: The human version of Iron Core has the human Skybreaker as his foster father, rather than just his mentor.
* InsaneTrollLogic: In ''Rainbow Rocks'' when Flash tries to get through to them that they have fallen under the Sirens’ spell, they dismiss the idea, saying they would probably know if they were hexed. Flash points out that they wouldn't because that is the whole point of being hexed in the first place.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Iron Core. Upon first bumping into Flash, he acts coarsely to him and generally maintains a cold front. However, he is much nicer to his friends and is generally not hostile like the other antagonists to Canterlot High.
* LegacyCharacter: The Royal Knights currently attending Canterlot High were not its first members. When the school first opened, different students created the band and played in it, until they graduated and disbanded it. Iron, First, Heather, and Lightning revived the band and the first three members still play in it. Human Flash eventually joins them as a permanent replacement for Lightning after he transfers to CHS.
* NiceGuy: Girl in Heather's case. Unlike Iron Core, both First Aid and Heather Bloom act amicably with Flash and only ever act abrasively to him when they are under the influence of the Dazzlings.
* OnlySaneMan: When Flash shows off his new car to everyone in "Let's Rev It Up" and wants a race with everyone else's vehicle's to test it out, First Aid is the only one participating who isn't focuses solely on winning and suggests everyone just be safe so Flash's brand new car isn't accidentally wrecked.
* ShipperOnDeck: Heather says she already thought that the pony versions of Flash and Twilight were a cute couple, but thinks that Human Flash and Sci-Twi are even more cute together. She and the rest of the Royal Knights try to get Flash to acknowledge his feelings for Sci-Twi during ''Legend of Everfree''.

** They all are this in ''Rainbow Rocks'' after they lose in the semi-finals of The Battle of the Bands to The Dazzlings, blaming Flash for it. Though this is justified since they, like most others in the school, were under the influence of their HatePlague.
** When Iron Core loses the race in "Let's Rev It Up" to Flash's new car, his first reaction is to angrily accuse Flash of cheating. But, as Flash pointed out, there was no rule saying he couldn't use magic.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Justified in ''Rainbow Rocks''. Like the rest of the school, they came under the influence of the Dazzlings, which caused them to act much more hostile to Flash.

The human counterpart of Grand Hoof, who works as a janitor in Canterlot High.

* AccidentalHero: When Flash, the Royal Knights, and Lightning Blitz's group get locked in a room by Cinch, he unlocks the door for them when he hears the commotion they make, unaware that this would enable Flash to save the school from Midnight Sparkle.
* AlmightyJanitor: Quite literally. He was one of the original Royal Knights and joined the police force after he graduated. He retired a few years ago and became the janitor for CHS to have something to do.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: In ''Rainbow Rocks'', he manages to avoid the HatePlague the Dazzlings cause for most of the story thanks to his earplugs, but they eventually get control over him when he takes them out for a moment. They force him to attack Flash to stop him from interfering.
* CoolOldGuy: Like his pony counterpart, he's one of the oldest characters in the series and is always calm and collected.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: When he finds evidence that Flash and Twilight didn't ruin the upcoming Fall Formal dance, he presents it to Vice Principal Luna, saving them from getting blacklisted.

The human version of Flash Sentry.

* TheAce: {{ZigZagged}}. It is said that he has helped several of the teams at Crystal Prep when they needed him to substitute for a member, and was the reason the team won every game he helped with. Though he never joined a club or team full-time because he thought it would distract him from helping Sci-Twi. However, it is also mentioned that his grades are below Crystal Prep's standards, so he's not skilled in every aspect of life.
* AdaptationalBadass: In canon the Human Flash had no magic at all, while here he obtains magic during the Friendship Games due to the portal mistaking him for the Pony Flash, and later [[spoiler:gets a taste of the Sacred Light from his pony counterpart]].
* BadassBiker: He ends up replacing Indigo Zap's place for the second round of the friendship games, and drives a mototcross.
* CoolCar: "Let's Rev It Up" has him repair a car he finds in Rusty's Junkyard, making it good as new and resembling his car from canon. He also demonstrates that thanks to Sci-Twi's help he is able to use his own magic on it to make it go even faster.
* CrazyPrepared: After he snaps a photo of Sci-Twi dressed as Masked Matterhorn, he shows it to his friends but refuses to send it to any of them, to make sure it doesn't spread around the school and risk Sci-Twi breaking up with him. Later, Sci-Twi steals his phone to delate the photo herself, but unknown to her Flash had already backed it up to his computer.
* DeadpanSnarker: He shows to be one just like her pony counterpart. Unlike Sci-Twi, who just takes the abuse she receives from the Shadowbolts, Flash engages in a lot of SnarkToSnarkCombat with the Shadowbolts.
* DeathGlare: He shoots several of these at Timber Spruce when he sees him and Sci-Twi together, or when he interrupts the two of them.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: Though he denies it, he ultimately has trouble finding a reason in life beyond "helping protect Sci-Twi".
* EarlyBirdCameo: He makes a brief cameo appearance in the final scene of ''Rainbow Rocks'' along with Six-Twi and the human versions of Lightning Blitz and Ruby Scarlet.
* FirstPersonSmartass: His narration throughout "Substitute" has him snarking in private, especially towards Cold Steel.
* GreenEyedMonster: He quickly becomes jealous when he sees Timber flirting with Sci-Twi at Camp Everfree, though he denies having any feelings for her himself.
* HowDoIShootWeb: Similar to the Rainbooms, he struggles to control his new magic at Camp Everfree for awhile, and distances himself from everyone until he can figure it out. Once he learns to embrace his powers though, he quickly learns how to properly control them and use them properly.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: He decides if Sci-Twi wants to be with Timber he won't do anything to interfere with it, as long as he makes her happy. But still gives Timber a [[IfYouEverDoAnythingToHurtHer warning]] what will happen if he breaks her heart.
* IfYouEverDoAnythingToHurtHer: He warns Timber Spruce that he better not be messing with Sci-Twi's feelings, because if he ever breaks her heart he'll be on him like that, and [[BadassFingerSnap snaps his fingers, shooting lightning a Timber]].
* ImportantHaircut: His haircut in "Room to Grow" symbolizes him growing out of his old, immature self as he begins to focus more on what he wants to do after high school and enter the adult world.
* InsecureLoveInterest: He is too afraid to admit he has any feelings for Sci-Twi, believing he doesn't have anything to offer her, especially when compared to his pony counterpart who is practically a superhero.
* MundaneUtility: In "Let's Rev It Up" he uses his magic to disassemble cars much faster than normal.
* OCStandIn: In canon, the human version of Flash Sentry has little screen-time and personality beyond being a NiceGuy. Here, he gets an expanded role in the story and a closer relationship to Sci-Twi.

* LoveTriangle: She finds herself in one with Flash Sentry and Timber Spruce in ''Legend of Everfree''. She develops a crush on Timber shortly after arriving on camp, but eventually discovers that Flash has feelings for her. She eventually [[ShipSinking loses interest in Timber]] after he ends up insulting Flash to her face.
* ShipSinking: She quickly loses interest in Timber Spruce after he calls Flash dangerous for everyone to be around, and doesn't deny it when Sci-Twi says he sounds like he is saying Flash should be locked away.
* WeCanRuleTogether: When she is corrupted into Midnight Sparkle she offers Human Flash to come through the portal with her and have just as much magic as her.

After he finds out they stole the idea from Rarity though, he withdraws his help, refusing to help them win by cheating, [[ScrewTheMoneyIHaveRules even if he risks becoming an outcast in the school for it being his fault they can't afford to have their school dance on a yacht]].
* HeroicBystander: They save the other students from falling into Equestria once Midnight Sparkle unleashes her power.
* HumblePie: Lightning was described as being a bit of a jerk during his time a CHS, and didn't listen to his friends about staying away from Sunset. Then Sunset ends up getting him expelled due to him being on his last warning. This made him rethink his choices in life, and helped him realize that he wasn't acting like the kind of person he wanted to be.
* IChooseToStay: Lightning was offered the chance to come back to CHS after Sunset confesses how she got him expelled, but he declines due to having gotten use to his new school. He is once again offered the chance to return at the end of ''Friendship Games'' when Sci-Twi and Human Flash transfer to CHS, but once again chooses to stay at CPA, wanting to help make sure it becomes a better place.
* NiceGuy: Unlike their Equestrian counterparts, Lightning's friends are all this from the get-go, as none of them hold any animosity to others. Even Lightning Blitz transitions to this after he's expelled from Canterlot High and even so, he still never strained his relationship with Grand Hoof to the same extent as his Equestrian counterpart.
* OCStandIn: They replace some of the Crystal Prep students in the Friendship Games. A more specific example is during the baking competition, where Gorgenia and Wild create the best Crystal Prep cake instead of Upper Crust and Suri Polomare.
* PluckyComicRelief: Wild is the most light-hearted one of Lightning's friends, even joking about how Lightning once dated a horse (Sunset Shimmer).
* ShipTease: Lightning has some with Rarity at the end of "Dance Magic". After CHS and CPA win the contest, Rarity thanks him since his decision to reject helping the Shadowbolts resulted in them all needing to work together to win, and she drags him along to celebrate with them.
* TheSmartGuy: Out of all of Lightning's friends, Solid Script is generally the most analytical of them.
* TokenGoodTeammate: They serve as this to the entire Crystal Prep team, being the only ones to not mistreat Flash and Sci-Twi, as well as enthusiastically clapping for Sci-Twi's victory in the academic portion of the Friendship Games and acting friendly to their opponents.

* BestFriend: She's been friends with Luna since they were roommates in college.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Much like her pony counterpart, she enjoys going out with Luna to drink and it's implied that the drinking leads to the same disastrous results.
* IgnoredExpert: Human Flash never listens to her advice about joining a club or extracurricular activity to find a purpose in life beyond helping Sci-Twi. When he transfers to CHS at the end of ''Friendship Games'' he is initially excited to finally have her off his back, before [[SitcomArchNemesis she claims she is going to keep in contact with the school]] to make sure he doesn't fall back into his old habits.
* ImStandingRightHere: When Flash decides to attend Canterlot High, he celebrates that Ruby won't nag on him anymore. Unfortunately for him, Ruby was right there to witness this, so she jokingly warns him that she'll be in contact with Canterlot's guidance counselor and Sci-Twi to ensure that he doesn't fall back into his old habits.
* TheMentor: She serves as this to Human Flash.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Unlike Cinch, she never abuses the Crystal Prep students and she implores Flash to take one extracurricular activity to use his skills to the fullest.
* TheyCallMeMisterTibbs: During school hours, she insists that Flash call her "Counselor Scarlet", even though they knew each other prior to his attendance in Crystal Prep.

* ArmorPiercingQuestion: At one point, Cold asks Flash what career prospects he wants to pursue after high school to point out that his lackluster academic performance isn't a viable lifestyle. Flash is unable to answer this.
* BrutalHonesty: Cold flat out tells Flash that he can improve as a student and puts him through rigorous academic work and tests to push him into studying harder.
* HeyYou: He doesn't even addresses Snips' name when he calls him out for sticking gum under his desk.
* HopeSpot: Cranky Doodle resumes his job before Cold can give Flash his final exam, making it seem like Flash can relax again. Unfortunately, Cold just visits the Sparkle household on the weekend so that he can deliver the exam there.
* JerkassHasAPoint: While it's a message delivered without much tact, Cold is right that Flash shouldn't be happy about barely passing his classes and that he has the potential to do better.
* SternTeacher: Cold is a strict substitute who forces Flash to attend tutoring sessions with him and really goes out of his way to test him, but he is sincerely trying to turn him into a better student.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Cold is no-nonsense and an incredibly strict teacher on Flash, but only because he sees untapped potential in him that he believes can be unlocked if he's pushed to his academic limits.

* AcquiredSituationalNarcissism: "Substitute" shows that since he obtained human level intelligence and the ability to talk, he also got a major boost to his ego. He no longer considers his old dog food that he always enjoyed before good enough for him and wants to sit at the dinner table with everyone else and eat the same food as them. This eventually leads to him getting overweight and [[DietEpisode needing to be put on a diet]] by Twilight's family, to his immense displeasure.
* ArchEnemy: Humorously, Spike makes enemies with a squirrel, forcing Fluttershy to intervene and resolve the conflict.
* InstantlyProvenWrong: He insists that he is in perfect health and not overweight, only to end up getting stuck in the doggy door he has used hundreds of times before until Springer pushes him through.
* PuppyDogEyes: Sci-Twi gets Spike to flash these on Flash to pressure him into giving her back her energy-tracker device.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Before the final Friendship Games event, Spike locates Flash under Sci-Twi's request to see if he was okay. Unfortunately, Cinch followed after Spike, hoping to find Twilight and, upon finding Flash and several of his friends in the music room to ensure that they don't interfere with her plans to use Sci-Twi's powers in the game.

* DefeatMeansFriendship: Played with between him and Flash. Flash first meets him at Rusty's junkyard when he swipes an alternator he and Shining were going to use to fix Shining's car and runs off with it. Flash chases the puppy through the junkyard and quickly manages to catch him and take the part back. But, Flash quickly realizes the pup didn't mean any harm and just wanted some attention and someone to play with. Flash plays with him for a bit, and Springer ends up assisting him with building his car.
* IntellectualAnimal: He shows he is very smart, able to recognize and find all the parts Flash needs to build his car, and quickly responds to commands from Flash, including nonverbal ones like whistling.
* MeaningfulName: Flash names him "Springer" after adopting him because he noticed he had amazing jumping skills.
* TheNoseKnows: Springer has a very good sense of smell, which he uses to locate parts for Flash to make his car.
* PuppyDogEyes: Springer uses this to win the affection of the Rainbooms.
* UndyingLoyalty: Given he is a dog in the human world, it is fitting he has this for Flash. Shortly after the two meet, Springer does everything he can to help Flash build his car, eventually resulting in Flash adopting him as his pet. This is later taken to the next level during "Forgotten Friendship", when even when Springer has all of his memories of Flash erased but can still tell that ''something'' is missing without him and is left saddened when he enters Flash's room and he isn't there.

The owner of a junkyard who helps Flash build his own car.

* CoolOldGuy: He's far older than both Flash and Shining Armor, but he is very helpful in locating parts for Flash to build his car with.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: While Flash works at his junkyard, Rusty's shown to be a very reasonable, laidback boss who forms a friendly relationship with him.
* NoodleIncident: According to Shining Armor, he first met Rusty when drove off several punks who were trespassing on his property and harassing him.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He's a fairly minor character, but his deal with Flash to come to his junkyard and help him out is what started the first meeting between Flash and Springer.

* CoolBigSis: When Flash helps Sunset confront them in the hallway, Adagio invites Flash to hangout with them when they are done at CHS, simply because she knows that [[VillainousCrush Sonata likes him]].
* MindControlMusic: As per canon, they can use their singing to place their victims under their spell and spread their HatePlague. Further use of it is also shown when they finally get control over Grand Hoof, and are able to control him into attacking Flash for them.
* RelatedInTheAdaptation: In canon, their relationship with one another was ambiguous. Here, just like many other fanfictions, they’re sisters.
* VillainousCrush: Sonata develops a crush on Flash Sentry almost immediately after seeing him. She is visibly disappointed when he rejects Adagio's offer to hang out with them, but is quick to tease him over how he "missed out" by doing so and has no problem fighting him and his friends afterwards.

The principal of Crystal Prep.

* AdaptationalExplanation: In canon, there was a single line from Sunny Flare in "[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsMagicalMovieNight Dance Magic]]" that [[KarmaHoudiniWarranty Cadance had replaced Cinch as the new principal at Crystal Prep]], but no explanation of how or why she did was given. In the first chapter of ''Legend of Everfree'', it is explained here that Cinch tried to get the school board to shut down CHS, reporting how they were doing some kind of illegal student experimentation and Celestia and Luna were creating "magical super soldier students". She of course was not believed, and everyone present, including her own students, denied having witnessed anything magical, and this [[VillainousBreakdown drove her insane]]. The school board then dismissed her and forced her to step down due to her "stress induced mental breakdown", and Cadance replaced her.
* AdaptationalJerkass: She was already a horrible person in canon, but she actually manages to be even worse here. Instead of just blackmailing Sci-Twi by threatening to reject her application to the Everton program, she also says that if they should lose the Friendship Games then she will use it as an excuse to expel Human Flash Sentry. She later informs Flash of this condition too before the final competition, before locking him and his friends in the music room to stop them from interfering.
* HateSink: She's even more detestable here. See the AdaptationalJerkass entry above.
* IWillPunishYourFriendForYourFailure: Along with the same blackmail she used on Sci-Twi from canon, she also makes it clear that if Crystal Prep should lose the Friendship Games to CHS then she will use it as an excuse to get Human Flash expelled.

They were only able to come up with an idea for the Chance to Prance Competition by stealing Rarity's concept, and had to rely on Lightning Blitz for an original song they could use, leaving them dead in the water when he decided not to help them.
* LaserGuidedKarma: They recruit Lightning Blitz to make an original song they can use for their music video, but after he finds out that they stole their idea from Rarity he backs out of their agreement, leaving them without an original song.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Not with each other, but with Flash Sentry and Sci-Twi. They act very elitist to the former and, as in canon, bully Sci-Twi for her underperformance during the athletics event of the Friendship Games. The feeling is especially reciprocated by Flash, who constantly berates them for their {{Jerkass}} behavior.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Lemon Zest is the only one that doesn't get on Human Flash's case about the Friendship Games, and she is the only one in the group Flash would consider a friend, due to sharing the same taste in music.

Not only does he come off as trying way too hard to look cool, he focuses a lot of attention trying to romance Sci-Twi, while ignoring Flash's presence. When Flash confronts him on his intentions, while the two don't know they are being watched, he openly mocks Flash, and later insults him to Sci-Twi's face while trying to get her to turn on him, saying he should be locked up. He later tells Sci-Twi he is fine with her being with Flash if that is what she wants, only to reveal to Gloriosa he doesn't believe a relationship will last with them and is just waiting to help Sci-Twi though their "break up".
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite being a jerk, he still cares about his sister, Gloriosa.
* HateSink: He's written to be as irritating as possible.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Subverted; in the final chapter of ''Legend of Everfree'' he tells Sci-Twi that he is okay with her being with Flash, saying he was too hard on him before and he ''did'' save his life. But once she leaves, he reveals to Gloriosa that he is just "out-humbling" Flash by being willing to give Sci-Twi up like he was, and believes a relationship between them won't last so he will swoop in and help Sci-Twi through their "break up".

The school board then dismissed her and forced her to step down due to her "stress induced mental breakdown", and Cadance replaced her.
