This is best evidenced by the fact that, on the internet, the two switch roles entirely -- Mairu's practically a {{Lurker}} while Kururi [[MotorMouth never shuts up]].

* DifferentAsNightAndDay: They deliberately cultivated themselves to be such, going as far as to flip a coin to see who got to have which trait. [[spoiler:Izaya]] says that [[SingleMindedTwins they don't actually consider themselves to be separate people]], and that they're invoking the real-world equivalent of [[AnAdventurerIsYou RPG party balance]].
** According to Shinra, this is a direct reaction against some of the emotional abuse [[spoiler:Izaya]] put them through. [[spoiler:When they were as young as five, Izaya would, [[GuineaPigFamily as a social experiment]], suggest to them that one of them should just kill themselves if they're just going to be identical, redundant copies of each other]]. Not quite being like other people, they decided the solution was to get out some dice, assign as many different character traits they could think of between them, and live with these new "personalities" for the rest of their lives.
