* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: At the end of ''Battle of Gods'', Whis states that Goku managed to push Beerus to use almost 70% of his power. Since then, Goku and Vegeta have both become dramatically more powerful than when they first met Beerus but the god is still presented as being far out of their league in terms of strength.

He served as the main antagonist of ''Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods.'' After receiving a vision of the so-called "Super Saiyan God" making a WorthyOpponent for him, he shows up on earth. Despite his [[TheDreaded dreaded]] "profession", he's a surprising [[FriendlyEnemy exception]] to the commonly sadistic monster that a ''Dragon Ball Z'' villain usually is, which is good considering he's leagues and leagues stronger than all of them.

** Beerus blames everyone from the Supreme Kai to Goku for U7's low mortal ranking. The Supreme Kai [[{{Hypocrite}} calls him out for sleeping all the time instead of doing his job and Goku points out that Beerus didn't help the ranking by randomly destroying planets]].

* WillfullyWeak: He's so strong that he intentionally holds back against all of his opponents. Even against Goku's Super Saiyan God Form, he never used more than 70% of his full power. Which makes sense, since according to Akira Toriyama's "scale of 10" numbers, SSG Goku's max matches only 60% of Beerus' power. It turns out that in ''Super'', he has the ability to [[OneHitKill completely atomize]] ''anyone'' he chooses to simply by putting his hand in front of them and saying "Hakai". He didn't put a single ounce of effort into slapping Bulma, did he?

* OffhandBackhand: He does a OneHitKill version of this with his Hakai technique on [[spoiler:[[Manga/DoctorSlump Dr. Mashirito]] during Episode 69 of Anime/DragonBallSuper]] as a response for the guy being dumb enough to badmouth him.

** Pretty much ''everyone'' in the ''Dragon Ball'' universe fears him, including all gods, Frieza, ''Shenron'' and arrogant Saiyans. While Vegeta being scared shitless is usually a good indication that someone is to be taken seriously, in Beerus' case it doesn't stop there. Even ''Goku'' who has no sense of authority respectfully addresses him with ''-sama'' at King Kai's request. In the case of Beerus' reputation, OOCIsSeriousBusiness applies to ''everyone''.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: He is so immature he needs Whis as constant Butler/Nanny to remind him about waking up in the morning, good manners, and brushing his teeth before going to sleep. It's also {{Deconstructed}} and Beerus' faults are serious as well. Beerus' failure to have any kind of responsibility in his position is always shown in a very negative light and is largely responsible for the awful state Universe 7 is in, something his overseer Whis is completely aware of and subtlely tries to get him to stop. A lot of his growth as a person is Beerus learning to care more about more than fighting, sleeping, and food.

** In ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', when Bulma, Goku, and Vegeta are about to go track down the last Dragon Ball before [[spoiler:the Frieza Force]] can grab it, he refuses to go with them since he'd rather sleep. So they leave him to take care of Bulla.

* AssholeVictim: Future Beerus is this, by merely being [[TheGodsMustBeLazy sleeping]] all the time. To wit: His laziness and continuous sleeping allowed the murderous future androids to live and kill many Earthlings for ''years'', if not decades. And besides the androids, there are also Future Babidi, Future Dabura, [[FromBadToWorse and]] Goku Black; the latter two ended up killing Future Shin in the manga or anime, respectively, and thus killing [[SlainInTheirSleep the still-sleeping]] Future Beerus indirectly.

** Averted when it comes to doing his duty as a God of Destruction, though. While it is not known how his fighting abilities compare to the other Destroyers, his universe has the second-lowest mortal level of all 12 universes, suggesting that Beerus' godly guidance is less than satisfactory. Even the ''Supreme Kai'', who by his admission is IncompletelyTrained and not that great at fulfilling his duties, calls Beerus out on being too lazy.

** When Goku accuses Beerus of destroying planets randomly, Beerus shoots back that none of his destruction is random. Which is true, however, he destroys for [[DisproportionateRetribution extremely petty reasons]] that might as well be random to any normal person.

* DestroyerDeity: Is his title: God of Destruction. It's his job to destroy worlds so it makes sense he doesn't see anything morally wrong with his actions. It's actually established that old planets have to be destroyed so new planets can be born; the problem with Beerus is that he acts independently of the Supreme Kais (even worse now that there's only two of them left, and he is more powerful than any/all of them combined, so they can't really try to stop him), chooses what planets he will destroy at his leisure, [[DisproportionateRetribution and he can/has/will destroy important planets without a second thought if he's irritated enough, and he's rather temperamental.]] This comes to bite him in the ass when it turns out that Universe 7 is the second weakest of all the 12 universes.

** Both Beerus and Champa are terrified of Zeno and immediately humble themselves in his presence. This is saying a lot since they're both JerkassGods with huge [[SmugSuper egos]]. Beerus freaks out just from hearing Goku mention Zeno's name during casual conversation.

** Seeing Vegeta's desire to catch up with Goku his own way without Ultra Instinct, Beerus reveals there are other divine powers that he could learn. While he refuses to ''teach'' Vegeta...he doesn't mind if Vegeta watched him get some exercise and 'stole' one of those powers.
