Wilson Percival Higgsbury is the only character playable at the start of Don't Starve. and the main character of the game. He'll slowly accumulate a lot of facial hair after a few days, which protects him from the cold; or, if he chooses, he can shave it off and use it as a component to construct a Meat Effigy - a meat-filled wooden sculpture of himself, that resurrects him into a new body when he dies.

* BoringButPractical: His power is being able to grow a beard. Sounds lame compared to things like extra strength, being immune to fire, or having a familiar... yet he comes with no weaknesses at all, unlike the others. The beard itself gives free sanity when shaved, and keeps him warm in the winter as well.
** As of his rework, Wilson's Insight Tree can grant various not-insignificant buffs such as better torches, converting common items into rarer ones (such as the limited quantity/dangerous or tedious to farm ancient gemstones) or simply making his beard stronger. His affinity tree, unlocked after defeating either the Ancient Fuelweaver or Celestial Champion, simply grants him a 10% damage and defense buff dependent on which side he chooses, along with crafting their rare materials, Pure Horror and Dreadstone, or Pure Brilliance.

well. Wilson has the easiest access to beard hair among the survivors, a key component in creating the Meat Effigy, which will revive a survivor once upon death, without needing to go insane and hunt Beardlings or Beardlords.

* BuffySpeak: Scientist he may be, but he tends to use informal, simple sentences to describe things ("It's all piney," "It's cute, in a gross kind of way.") He sometimes uses scientific terms, however; for example, when he gets wet, he says: "Oh, Hsubscript:2O."

* InformedAbility: Despite being described as "The Gentleman Scientist", he doesn't have any exclusive crafting recipes or advantages in science like Wickerbottom or Wagstaff. His introduction cinematic shows that he is in-fact quite a bad scientist.
** Downplayed in the rework, where he has a skill tree. Still, he's less of a scientist and more of an alchemist.

* UnconventionalAlignment: Characters with skill trees all have a final branch that unlocks based on which of the two final bosses, the Ancient Fuelweaver and the Celestial Champion, they defeat first. Doing so earns them favour from either Charlie or Wagstaff, and grants them buffs that benefits them based on the side, like greater damage against nightmare or lunar creatures if you picked their opposing side.

His Dumbbell Developer and Heavy Lifter skill tree branch lets him craft more, including an Icebell and Firebell that unleash a freezing blast or flames where they land, along with doubling their damage when all skills are purchased.

Added DiffLines:

* SignificantBirthDate: Most of the survivors have one, and most of the time it matches with a game update about them in the real world:
** Wilson's birthday is April 23rd, the date the original Don't Starve was officially released.
** Willow (May 7th) and Woodie (September 12th)'s birthdays are the days they got their character update in Don't Starve Together.
** Wolfgang's birthday is October 2nd, the date he was added to Don't Starves beta.
** Wendy and Abigail's birthday is November 11th (11/11), Veteran's Day, Singles' Day, and Children's Day in Croatia.
** Wes's birthday is April 16th, World Voice Day, and Charlie Chaplin's birthday.
** Maxwell's birthday is October 22nd, the day his character's perks were added to Don't Starve back in 2013, and the day the update "Forgotten Knowledge" was implemented to Don't Starve Together in 2020.
** Webber's birthday is April 30th, the date Reign of Giants was officially released.
** Winona's birthday is September 13th, the date she was added in Don't Starve Together. Wortox (March 28th), Wormwood (June 6th), and Warly (July 25th) follow the same pattern, and Wurt misses it by a week, as her birthday is October 17th and she was added in Don't Starve Together on October 24th.
** Wanda's birthday is August 8th (8/8), which could be a nod to the Infinity Symbol (∞) and her situation as a person existing "out of time".

* Cloudcuckoolander: Downplayed with Wilson. Much of his dialogue shows him as... rather eccentric. He's obsessed with puns, his ideas as to what science entails can be bizarre, and the stuff he has invented have an unusual thought process put into them. The Gardeneer Hat is essentialy a wearable plant pot, made because Wilson believes that to understand plants, one must wear them. Most of the time, however, he's shown to be fairly grounded as one of the saner survivors.

His rework attempted to ameliorate this, giving him unique helpful items he can craft for other players and making monsters more likely to target him than anyone else, while also giving him several new downsides such as even lower stats and increased vulnerability to bad weather.

** Character quotes from Together show that he gets along with (and actually kind of likes) WX-78 the best, and is worst off with Woodie, who still clearly doesn't like him much (and is only willing to revive him as a ghost because Lucy, who is a bit more forgiving, said so). Willow also continues to make a lot of jabs at him, and Winona seems to have not entirely forgiven him for dragging her little sister into the Constant.

* CrutchCharacter: Webber possesses a relatively stable early game as his easy access to meat, silk, and spider glands for healing, as well as using Spiders as allies to keep himself safe from other mobs will ensure easy survibality through your first winter when you play your cards right. However, on later stages of the game, Webber struggles against certain boss mobs due to his lower maximum Sanity and the fact that most boss mobs have large area-of-effect attacks that essentially renders mass Spider allies useless. This makes it more difficult for him to explore the whole world effectively on his own compared to other characters. Webber's character refresh remedies this somewhat by giving him special items that allow him to transform Spiders to more stronger variants and giving him additional abilities.
