[[caption-width-right:350:The Guardian]]

The hero of the original Final Fantasy. He is a warrior with no memories who wandered into Cornelia with a crystal in hand. Sent on a quest from the King to save Princess Sarah from the fallen knight Garland, he went on to battle the Four Fiends to restore light to the Crystals and save the world from from the forces of darkness.
::
The Warrior of Light is a Vanguard-type fighter, specializing in mid-ranged attacks and defensive counter attacks. Blocking attacks on his Shield of Light (as opposed to using a regular guard) will grant him Light's Blessing, strengthening certain attacks for a period and giving him the power to enhance his HP attacks. His EX Skill, Holy Chain, forces all enemies within range to lock onto him for a duration of time.
----
* TwentyFourHourArmor: And it always looks so fine!
* BadassCape: Original example within the series.
* BarrierWarrior: His main gimmick is his defensive prowess and using barriers like Shield of Light, Bitter End and Guard Rush to parry enemy attacks to create openings.
* BFS: Coruscant Saber generates a large blade of magical energy around the Warrior of Light's sword for swinging in a horizontal arc.
* CompressedHair: While not entirely unlikely, it's still pretty surprising that he fits such a magnificent mane of locks under that helmet.
* CoolHelmet: The Warrior of Light has a fancy horned helmet with long tassels. His battle damage will break one of the horns off.
* CoolSword: The Warrior of Light wields a sword known as Braveheart in tandem with the Shield of Light, his alternate weapon replaces them with the Flame Sword and Shield or Icebrand and Ice Shield.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Silver-blue hair and silver-blue eyes, Square-Enix's twin obsessions combined at last.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: The Warrior is a very beautiful man. More noticeable in his "Nameless Warrior" outfit, which removes his helmet to let his hair flow freely.
* DrawAggro: The Warrior of Light's EX Skill Holy Chains forces all enemies within the range of the ability to lock onto him.
* FlyingWeapon: The Warrior of Light can control his Shield with magic for impressive shield throws, especially with his Ultimate Shield HP Attack.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: Holy light and goodness, ayup. His third costume takes it even further by coloring his armor primarily white and silver.
* HelmetsAreHardlyHeroic: Normally averted with his nicely horned helmet, but his alt outfits play it straight.
* JackOfAllStats: The Warrior of Light is very balanced in terms of speed, power and range, but he does have a more defensive bend then usual.
* KnightlySwordAndShield: The Warrior of Light's signature fighting style has him using a sword and shield in equal measure, fitting for the upstanding knightly type of person he is.
* KnightInShiningArmor: Honorable and upstanding warrior of Cornelia.
* LightEmUp: Attacks with various forms of weaponized light.
* LightIsGood: A holy themed knight who fights for good.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Uses his shield to deflect attacks by way of generating barriers from it.
* MagicKnight: Fights primarily with sword and shield, but some attacks allow him to attack with light-based magic.
* Retraux: The Warrior of Light's alternate costume deliberately invokes this with a much more simple and lower detailed suit of armor and red hair based on his sprite from the NES game.
* ShieldBash: Uses his shield as a weapon almost as much as his sword.
* ShowgirlSkirt: A very impressive one.
* SpontaneousWeaponCreation: The Warrior of Light can generate swords and shields out of light magic for attacking and defending.
* StatusBuff: Successfully blocking an enemies attack with Shield of Light will grant the Warrior of Light with the Protect status.
* StoneWall: He's best played as a tank, to the point where his [=EX=] Skill is basically a taunt.
* StormOfBlades: The Radiant Sword portion of Shield of Light launches a barrage of sword shaped magic missiles at the enemy for the Warrior of Light's only long ranged Bravery attack.
* SwordBeam: Shining Wave is a rather massive version.
* TensionCuttingLaughter: Before setting off the final conflict between both sides in order to lure in Shinryu to be stricken down, the Warrior of Light breaks in the middle of his RousingSpeech and breaks into laughterSomething that gives everyone pause as it's the only time he's ever done so when it dawns on him that, for once, everyone can finally come together to be on the same side.
* ThrowingYourShieldAlwaysWorks: Many of the Warrior of Light's attacks involve throwing his shield first before closing in with his sword.
* UnorthodoxSheathing: Whenever the Warrior of Light casts an EX Skill he sheaths his sword behind his shield.

[[caption-width-right:350:The Stalwart]]

The villain from the original Final Fantasy. Once a famous hero, he betrayed the King of Cornelia, kidnapped his daughter Princess Sarah, and brought her to the Chaos Shrine, where he was promptly defeated by the Warriors of Light. On his death knell, Garland made a pact with the Four Fiends, sending them to the present in his place while he went to the past to become the demon Chaos.
::
Garland is a Vanguard-type fighter who focuses on powerful relentless attacks. His unique gimmick is a status that increases the power, speed and properties of Garland's attacks. This status can be charged to greater levels by landing attacks, but its effects will wane if Garland is not attacking. His EX Skill, Deranged Soul, will trap an enemy in a close range magical attack that will automatically increase Garland's Deranged Soul status level by one.
----
* ArtEvolution: His armor and sword look much more detailed than in the original Dissidia. His original sword and armor are available as an alternate costume and weapon.
* AttackAttackAttack: Garland's Deranged Soul gimmick encourages this strategy since it burns out the less attacks connect.
* BadassCape: A long violet cape to match his armor.
* BattleAura: Garland's gimmick is a the Deranged Soul which manifests as a very evil red and black aura that gets more powerful the more he attacks and weaker the less he attacks.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo: Garland is still obsessed with cycles and their infinite loop.
* TheBerserker: Garland's combat style lends to constant vicious attacking.
* BFS: He wields a massive segmented two-handed blade Rebellion, his alternate weapon Chaosbringer looks like its made from a huge slab of molten rock.
* BlingOfWar: Contrary to his more simple armor in Dissidia, Garland's new gear here is covered in silver and gold ornamentation, especially his sword.
* BloodKnight: Garland lives for only one reason; to kill, die, and kill again.
* CoolHelmet: Garland's skull like horned helmet serves as a hint to his demonic form.
* DynamicEntry: After having a laugh, Garland launches his sword by the chain through a portal at the Warrior of Light, though the Warrior is able to shield himself from the introductory blow.
* ElementalPowers: Garland attacks with Thundaga and Flare magic for bravery attacks as well as his Tsunami, Earthquake, Cyclone and Blaze spells for HP Attacks.
* FlamingSword: Blaze sets Garland's swords on fire and has them spin around him to create a tornado of fire.
* FriendlyEnemy: Thirteen cycles of war and a StableTimeLoop later, Garland and the Warrior of Light seem to have reached this point. After a fight on the Cornelian hillside, the Warrior says "You owe me an answer" in the tone of one speaking to an information broker after emptying his wallet rather than a fallen knight after cracking his helmet.
* GroundShatteringLanding: Earthquake does this by dragging whatever enemy it hits straight down to the floor no matter how high they are and crushing them in the ensuing rocks.
* HornsOfVillainy: The prominent horns of Garland's helmet are there to invoke the imagery of his eventual transformation into Chaos.
* MagicKnight: Uses his sword to perform SpellBlade themed attacks.
* MightyGlacier: Certainly powerful and even his attack speed can become snappy thanks to Deranged Soul but his plodding pace and dash speed leave something to be desired.
* MorphWeapon: Garland's sword has many forms it can take including a lance, chain whip, an axe and can even divide into a pair of swords.
* MythologyGag:
** Earthquake drives the opponents into the ground, allowing Garland to make good on his boast that he will "knock you all down."
** His first alternate costume is his appearance in Dissidia.
** His gimmick is called "Soul of Chaos" after the collective title for the Bonus Dungeons in the GBA release of Final Fantasy I. Unfortunately LostInTranslation when it got localized as Deranged Soul.
** Each form his weapons take as well as his HP attacks are references to the four fiends. The Lance is Tiamat's Nail, the Whip resembles Kraken's tentacles, the twin swords represent Marilith's dual (Multiple in Marilith's case) swords and the Axe is reminiscent of the Lich, or rather the Earth the Axe slams into.
* RedRightHand: Garland's unarmored hands are ghastly white with long black claw like finger nails.
* SpellBlade: Garland's HP Attacks are executed by channeling the elemental magic through his sword.
* SpinAttack: Round Edge begins with one leading into a gigantic swing of the axe.
* SwordDrag: Garland's sword drags along the ground when he moves normally, given the sheer size of it that's to be expected.
* ThisIsADrill: Twist Drill makes a drill of magic energy around Garland's lance.
* TinTyrant: A very evil and very armored antagonist.
* TornadoMove: Cyclone of course throws a tornado at enemies from Garland's sword.
* VariableLengthChain: The chain part of the whip's function doesn't seem to have a set maximum length
* ReverseGrip: Garland carries and at times swings his sword this way because of the sheer size of it.

The hero from VideoGame/FinalFantasyII. When he and his family lost their home and parents to the Palamecian Empire, they joined the Rebel Army under Princess Hilda and became the spear point in liberating the world from the tyrannical Emperor and his horde of monsters.
::
Firion is a Vanguard-type fighter, specializing in ground-based combat. His unique combo system allows him to attack with various three stage combos using his large arsenal of weaponry. His EX Skill, Blood Weapon, gives his HP Attacks the ability to restore his own HP relative to the damage dealt to enemies.
----
* BadassCape: Firion's cape however is on the simple side compared to the Pimped Out Cape's of his allies.
* BadassesWearBandanas: Firion's fancy bandanna is a signature piece of his costume, his alternate costume replaces it with a different headband styled bandanna.
* BuildingSwing: Firion's DashAttack Grasping Knives has him throw one of his knives into an enemy and then pulls himself to them.
* Combos: Firion's main gimmick is that he has three stage combos which can be chained together. The analog inputs for combos are divided to Neutral for Close Range, Forward for Mid Range and Backward for Long Range.
* CounterAttack: Firion used to have an attack called Riposte, a guard and counter move, returning a blocked attack with magic from Firion's wand. The move was eventually replaced with Crown of Arms.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Firion has a very strong ground game and a less-strong air game. This was the case until repeated patches gave Firion more attacks in Midair that let him even the playing field such as Plummet and Shield Bash.
* CrownOfHorns: Firion's headpiece in his alternate costume is decorated with a pair of antennae like horns, something typically worn by high ranking officials like TheEmperor and Princess Hilda in his own game.
* DeathFromAbove: Plummet is a straight down divebomb onto an enemy.
* ElementalPowers: Firion can cast the standard FireIceLightning spells with his wand as well as conjure a whirlwind.
* FashionableAsymmetry: The "skirt", the scarf, and the uneven armor.
* FlamingArrows: His Searing Volley attack fires five flaming arrows.
* FlechetteStorm: His Rope Knives throws five daggers at once.
* FlyingWeapon: Firion can control his weapons with magic, allowing him to send them flying to opponents for certain attacks and call them back again.
* FormFittingWardrobe: If that is armor he's wearing, it's very... clingy.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: He has a single very powerful punching attack and the second hit of ShieldBash is a good old right hook.
* GroundPunch: His aptly named Ground Pound attack.
* IaijutsuPractitioner: Firion's Swordslash attack is a quick single slash straight from Firion's scabbard.
* LifeDrain: His Blood Weapon EX Skills heals him when he damages opponents.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: A small buckler on his wrist used to aid in blocking attacks and a medium for a ForceField.
* MightyGlacier: Firion's speed and dash are poor and he must remain rooted in place to attack enemies, but his attack power and effective range are both quite high.
* MultiShot: Firion is able to fire 5 arrows at once with his Searing Volley attack.
* MultiMeleeMaster: Firion wields CoolSword and BladeOnAStick along with his fists when wading into the fray.
* MultiRangedMaster: He also brings a bow, throwing knives, a tomahawk and a MagicWand to deal damage from a distance.
* MythologyGag: The pose Firion takes with his sword held before his face is based on an iconic illustration of him by Yoshitaka Amano.
** Firion wields each of the weapon types of Final Fantasy II including shields and unarmed combat.
* Mythril: Firion's second weapon set is based on the Mythril equipment which Firion and allies received for liberating the Mythril Mines for the Rebellion in Final Fantasy II.
* PrecisionGuidedBoomerang: His Boomerang Axe attack throws his axe like one and can even strike people with its BoomerangComeback.
* ShieldBash: Firion has an attack exactly called that, swatting his enemies with a backhand with his shield bearing arm.
* SleevesAreForWimps: He leaves his arms bare save for his shield.
* SpinAttack: Firion's Lance Combo is a spinning swing of his spear that can pull enemies to him.
* SwordBeam: He can launch one with his Fulminating Strike combo finisher.
* TechnicolorBlade: His signature Blood Sword is of course blood red in color.
* ThemeNaming: In Japanese, all of his HP attacks bear the "of Arms" title -- Master of Arms, Lord of Arms, Ruler of Arms, and Revenge of Arms. This is averted in English where Master of Arms is localized as Weaponmaster.
* TornadoMove: Vortex of Arms has Firion conjure one with himself at the center, before striking down with lightning bolts.
* UnorthodoxSheathing: Since all of his HP attacks involve making his weapons fly ahead of him, his victory animation has them all returning to him. He grabs his axe and swings it into his belt, swipes at his spear to sling it across his back, grabs his bow by the string to throw it over his shoulder, leaps up so his knives slip into his boots, and then grabs his sword and holds it forward as he lands.

[[caption-width-right:350:The Despot]]

The villain of VideoGame/FinalFantasyII. Emperor Mateus was the tyrannical ruler of the aggressive expansionist nation of Palmecia. Through his mighty sorcery, the Emperor called forth TheLegionsOfHell to serve as his army and waged a war of global conquest, ravaging towns and toppling all the kingdoms who opposed him.
::
TheEmperor is a Marksman-type fighter who generates magical traps and projectiles to attack indirectly and pin enemies in place from mid range. His EX Skill, Starfall, rains down a massive cluster of meteorites on an opponent for a prolonged period of time, holding them in place and allowing him to follow up while they are helpless.
----
* EightiesHair: The Emperor has a fantastic spikey blond mullet.
* AnimalMotifs: The Emperor has a distinct snake motif, as observed by the cobra decorating his hair.
* AttackDrone: Light Crest fires a magical bit which will follow enemies shooting magic bullets at them.
* BadassLongcoat: In his Violet Robe costume from Final Fantasy Origins he ditches his garish gold armor for one.
* BlingOfWar: With the HD graphics update, it's apparent the Emperor's outfit isn't a purple and yellow robe, it's purple robes and shining gold armor.
* CastingAShadow: His Thorns of Repentance spell impales enemies with spikey shadow magic.
* ColonyDrop: His signature Starfall spell returns as his EX Skill, dropping many smaller meteorites before dropping a huge one on them.
* CrownOfHorns: The Emperor wears a crown with two pairs of horns and a cobra decorating it, just in case you were second guessing how evil he is.
* TheEmperor: This one really goes without saying.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Because he has no CanonName. A novelization of his game did give him the name Mateus, which is often referenced, but it has never been used in a proper fashion.
* FinishingStomp: After trapping Zidane in a Thunder Crest, the Emperor puts his boot down on the struggling Zidane's head.
* FlyingWeapon: His staff is often controlled with magic to float around and trace runes before returning to his hand.
* Greed: The Emperor's defining trait is his desire to bring everything under his own banner.
* HavingABlast: The Emperor loves to generate magical explosives such as mines and bombs.
* Hellfire: Accursed Storm launches a globe of hellfire at enemies, fitting for a man who's magic comes from Hell.
--> The Emperor: "Savor the flames of Hell!"
* InstantRunes: He is fond of these in his spells, often generating them by tracing them with his staff.
* LightEmUp: The aptly named Light Crest fires bullets of light magic at enemies
* HornedHairdo: The Emperor compliments his horned crown with his horned hair. This is taken even further in his Violet Robe costume where he seems to be attending the same hairdresser as Ultimecia.
* MagicStaff: The Emperor's favored weapon is an elaborate and authoritative staff coming in three flavors, Demon Rod, the Venom Rod and the Vicious Staff.
* NoNameGiven: Even in the orginal Final Fantasy II, he was only called "The Emperor of Palmecia", or just "The Emperor". Even in remakes and any other game in the Dissida series, his name is never mentioned. A Japan-exclusive novelization gives his name as "Emperor Mateus", which has been accepted by the fandom as canon due to being one of the changes in the novel that don't actually contradict the game, and was eventually officially given references such Esper Mateus and his ultimate weapon in previous Dissida games, Mateus' Malice.
* PainfullySlowProjectile: Accursed Storm and Blue/Red Soul launch fireballs which slowly stalk enemies.
* PimpedOutCape: His cape is probably the most elaborate of all the characters in the game, his HighCollarOfDoom even having a hole for his hair to flow through.
* PlayingWithFire: Accursed Storm returns as one of the Emperor's attacks firing a giant globe of flames that shoots smaller fireballs at enemies, he also bears a bravery attack variants called Red Soul and Blue Soul being red when cast midair and blue when cast on the ground.
* PowerFloats: The Emperor doesn't do walking, which is a good thing too due to his CombatStilettos.
* RecursiveAmmo: Although Accursed Storm is a PainfullySlowProjectile it will also fire out smaller fireballs at enemies while it stalks them.
* StaffOfAuthority: His rod doubles as a badge of office as seen by his page quote.
* ShockAndAwe: The Emperor's mines are electrically charged, and he can trap enemies in his Thunder Crest. His Stygian Swell manifests as evil looking purple lightning, and Dreary Cell conjures a lightning explosion when activated. This is of course a MythologyGag to the first fight with the Emperor, where his only attack magic was a high level Thunder spell.
* SlouchOfVillainy: The Emperor manages to pull this off without a chair thanks to his ability to levitate.
* SorcerousOverlord: He is a textbook EvilSorceror with a royal title to go along with it.
* SquishyWizard: Because most of his attacks are fairly indirect, The Emperor is a lot more helpless when enemies approach too closely.
* TemptingFate: After putting Zidane and Terra on the ropes, the Emperor quips that there's no one to help them now. Cue a BigDamnHeroes moment.
-->: It would seem that is my cue.
* TornadoMove: He has a defensive tornado HP Attack known as Hellish Gale, no doubt a reference to his gigantic Cyclone from his home game.
* TrapMaster: His fighting style in the previous games was the TropeNamer, after all. He has the power to create minefields, turrets, binding circles, and stalking projectiles in order to zone enemies.

->"It doesn't matter what they say, I am a knight!"

[[caption-width-right:350:The Boy]]

The first player from the original version of VideoGame/FinalFantasyIII. A young boy from the village of Ur, he and his three friends chanced upon the Wind Crystal while exploring a chasm. They were subsequently tasked with returning light to the world and saving it from the Flood of Darkness caused by the magus Xande.
::
The Onion Knight is a Specialist-type fighter who uses speedier attacks from both short range and long. His unique system allows him to change between the balanced Onion Knight, the close-range Ninja, or the long-range Sage. His EX Skill, Job Change, will switch him to the opposite Job on his list or a random one if he is in Onion Knight mode.
----
* BadassCape: In all three of his jobs.
* BladeSpam: All of Onion's sword attacks value quantity over quality.
* BlingBlingBang: One of his weapons is the Royal Sword, which is made of gold and has a crown on the hilt.
* BrattyHalfPint: He is pretty sassy and arrogant despite his youth.
* BroughtDownToNormal: Using the Spirit Surge HP Attack will return you to the Onion Knight job, it's recommended you use this one if you favor a playstyle that switches between Sage and Ninja.
* CloseRangeCombatant: As a Ninja he is lacking in long ranged attacks but becomes faster and more powerful at close range.
* CoolHelmet: His Onion Knight helmet is undeniably cool and elaborately tasseled.
* CoolMask: As a Ninja he wears the traditional cowl.
* CoolSword: He wields a short sword known as the Onion Sword normally and a pair called the Eternity Blades when he's a Ninja, but his alternate weapons switches them for the grim looking Serpent Sword and Ashura katanas, the fancy Royal Sword and Kotesu katanas, or the Gold Sword and Kiku-Ichimonji katanas.
* DeadpanSnarker: At least when he's talking about Vaan. His reaction to the sky pirate proclaiming the coast to be clear? "So there is caution under all that moxie."
* DeathOfAThousandCuts: His primary attacks involve rapidly slashing (ground)/stabbing (aerial) the enemy; each hit does miniscule damage, but those rapid hits stack up quickly.
* DopplegangerAttack: Leaves behind phantom images to attack alongside him when using Blade Torrent.
* DualWielding: As a Ninja he wields a pair of swords rather then a single blade or wand.
* ElementalPowers: Along with the standard Fire, Blizzard and Thunder spells he also has Aero, and Holy.
* EnergyBall: Holy fires a magical sphere of light at enemies.
* Fireballs: Both Fire and Flare are fireball projectiles.
* FumaShuriken: The Shuriken the Onion Knight throws dwarfs him in size.
* HavingABlast: The Magic component of Sword & Sorcery is a short ranged explosion. Spirit Surge is a large one with Onion Knight in the middle, and gets even larger if he's a Ninja or Sage at the time of detonation.
* HelmetsAreHardlyHeroic: His Bladewielder outfits remove his helmet.
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Especially since his ninja garb is bright red.
* InstantCostumeChange: When he switches jobs he immediately switches to the appropriate costume for it.
* Irony: In the previous Dissidia games, the Ninja and Sage jobs were Onion Knight's EX Mode, which meant it took specialized preparations to stay in them. Now, he automatically switches to Ninja or Sage after landing a few hits, and the only way to switch out is with one of his HP attacks or getting taken out, which means it takes a specialized preparations to stay out of them.
* JobSystem: Onion's play style revolves around changing between the three ultimate tier jobs of Final Fantasy III, the balanced Onion Knight, the close ranged and physical Ninja and the long ranged and magical Sage
* KidHero: He's a bit touchy about being judged for his youth too, this also extends into the ChildMage and NinjaBrat character types when he switches forms.
* LongRangeFighter: As a Sage he loses any close ranged attacks in exchange for more magic which actually grows more powerful the further it is cast from.
* MagicKnight: Onion is still perfectly divided between physical and magical attacks, with Ninja and Sage using one or the other entirely, the base Onion Knight using two of each.
* MagicStaff: He wields a fancy rod called the Eternity Staff as a Sage; his alternate weapons swap it out for the twisted and ominous Golem Staff, the regal-looking Rune Staff or the fey Omnirod.
* MasterOfNone: The Onion Knight is balanced between being an Assassin- and Marksman-type, but is missing an attack which hampers its usefulness. The Sage has the power of a Marksman down, but lacks the range and must get closer, where he can be cut up. Likewise the Ninja's attacks come out fast, but go on a bit longer than a normal quick strike-and-run playstyle the Assassin needs. The end result is that Onion is decent at both roles, but can't fully commit to either.
* MythologyGag: His first alt outfit colors his armor blue and his hair silver, while the second makes them green and brown, approximating the color schemes of Arc and Luneth from the DS release of III.
* NiceHat: Onion seems to have thing for intricate headgear. As a Sage, he favors a gigantic miter; as a Ninja, he's got a fancy cowl.
* Ninja: His alternate physical job, this of course gives him the ninja's signature DualWield.
* OrnamentalWeapon: The dagger he carries is just decoration.
* RedMage: The Sage is capable of White Magic like Aeroga and Holy as well as the rest of the Black Mage's overwhelming amount of attack magic.
* RollingAttack: Wheeling Thrust is a forward rolling dash making Onion a human buzzsaw.
* SphereOfDestruction: The Spirit Surge HP Attack generates a large sphere of energy with the Onion Knight in the epicenter.
* SpinAttack: The Onion Knight's Wind Shear attack is a spinning wind powered attack.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: He is the straight man to Vaan's wise guy.
* SwordBeam: Both Blizzard and Fire work like this, one being a fireball shot from the tip the other an arc of ice from a slash.
* TechnicolorBlade: His signature Onion Sword is yellow with blue decals, one of his Eternity Blades is similarly colored while his other one is red.
* WeaponTwirling: The Ninja's Whirlwind Slash is a good example of this applied to combat, twirling both of the Onion Knight's swords like a rotary fan to attack the enemy.

When the Magus Xande's wicked schemes again threw the alignment of light and darkness out of balance, it returned to try and revert the worlds to nothingness.
::
The Cloud of Darkness is a Vanguard-type fighter who can attack at wide angles and longer reach using its tentacles. Its unique attribute gives it a charge every ten seconds, allowing it to unleash a more powerful Bravery attack by holding down the button instead of tapping it. Its EX Skill, Umbral Torrent, temporarily gives it a charge that will not be extinguished even after used. It also allows it to use the powerful Zero-Form Particle Beam, a powerful long-ranged HP Attack which will instantly end the Umbral Torrent when used.
----
* AdvancingWallOfDoom: It can fire one with its Wide-Angle Particle Beam, generating an advancing energy wall.
* BadassCape: Its black, red and white gradient cape which attaches to its wrists to help add to its wraith-like appearance.
* BattleAura: When the Cloud of Darkness has a charge, it will gain a purple aura around itself. If it has the Umbral Torrent EX Skill activated, the aura becomes even more prominent.
* BreathWeapon: Its tentacles breathe out the Particle Beams used by many of its charged attacks.
* CastingAShadow: Unsurprising given that it is the Cloud of Darkness, but all of its magical attacks involve dark energy beams.
* ChargedAttack: Like Terra, the Cloud of Darkness will passively build charges to power up its attacks. Unlike Terra, it can choose when to expend this charge, it doesn't wear off when it is attacked, and it takes longer to build their charge (ten seconds to Terra's four).
* CombatTentacles: The Cloud of Darkness's weapons are the snake mouthed tentacles attached to its body, which it uses for the beginning of most of its combos.
* DemBones: Its second alternate weapon changes its tentacles into a pair of demonic skulls tethered to her through magic.
* EnergyBall: Its Induction Beam attack launches several orb shaped particle beams to home in on the enemy.
* EnergyWeapon: It retains its Particle Beam-type attacks, and will unleash a powerful laser in the charged variants of its tentacle attacks.
* GreenThumb: One of its alternate weapons is a pair of tentacles that resemble venus flytraps with thorny vines to tethering them.
* HumanoidAbomination: It exists only to engulf reality in the Void. It's also quite telling that despite taking the form of a humanoid woman, it isn't referred to as "she" or "they".
* IAmLegion: The Cloud of Darkness refers to itself as a plural. According to previous profiles, this is because it's tentacles each have their own mind and the main body speaks for all three of them.
* ImprobableHairstyle: Strands of its hair float around them, unabated by gravity.
* ItIsDehumanizing: In keeping with its inhuman nature, the Cloud of Darkness is always described as "it" rather than "she" or "they".
* KamehameHadoken: The Zero-Form Particle Beam charges and fires in such a manner.
* LightIsNotGood: Its second costume as the "Cloud of Light" is just as villainous as when it is the Cloud of Darkness.
* MagicMissileStorm: Its Diffusion Particle Beam fires a huge cluster of magical projectiles in high angle.
* Oculothorax: Its tentacle weapons can be changed into the recurring Ahriman type monsters.
* OtherworldlyAndSexuallyAmbiguous: The Cloud of Darkness takes the form of a beautiful woman, but it is really a monstrous entity with no true sex or gender.
* PillarOfLight: Possibly as a nod to its past incarnation as a light entity, the Uncanny Beam attack fires a tracking wave high energy pillars. One of its HP Attacks, which resembles Anti-Air Particle Beam, also counts.
* PowerFloats: Its movement is done solely by levitation, adding to its wraith-like motif.
* PowerOfTheVoid: Like Exdeath, the Cloud of Darkness is empowered by the void--in this case, manifesting in its Particle Beams which reduce everything to nothingness.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: The Cloud of Darkness has red eyes in order to add to its eerie and monstrous appearance.
* Stripperific: All it wears is a few strips of cloth, leaving everything on display.
* SuperMode: When the Flood of Darkness is activated, the Cloud of Darkness can use a powered up version of every attack, as well as use its long-ranged HP attack, the 0-Form Particle Beam.
* VocalDissonance: Like always, in Japanese the Cloud of Darkness has the form of a beautiful young woman but the harsh voice of an elderly one.
* WaveMotionGun: Its 0-Form Particle Beam returns and retains its massive laser like appearance. This term is even used in the Japanese version, the Particle Beam attacks instead being known as Wave Cannon.
* WeaponizedTeleportation: It has an HP attack which allows itself to teleport to and then strike their target.

::
Cecil is a Vanguard-type fighter who focuses on heavier long-range magic on the ground as a Dark Knight, and speedier close-range swordplay in the air as a Paladin. His EX Skill, Job Change, allows him to switch between Dark Knight and Paladin mode and gives him a powerful StatusBuff for doing so.

* AttackDrone: Searchlight creates a magical rune which fires bolts of holy energy at enemies while Cecil is free to do other things.
* BadassCape: As a Paladin Cecil wears a two layer one.
* BlackKnight: Dark Knight is one of Cecil's two jobs, being a hybrid of Vanguard and Marksman and focusing more on long-range attacks with dark magic on the ground.
* BladeOnAStick: His weapons the Holy Fang and Dark Claw resemble high fantasy versions of a Nagamaki (A Japanese sword where the blade is the same length as the handle), The Holy Fang is even used for Bartz's spear in his Arsenal 4 weapon pack.
* BlankWhiteEyes: His helm in the Dark Knight form has these.
* CastingAShadow: When in Dark Knight form, he attacks using Dark elemental magic.
* CastFromHitpoints: Dark Flame is quick and accurate but will burn 400 HP every time Cecil casts it.
* CoolCrown: As a Paladin, Cecil wears an elegant crown to keep his CompressedHair back.
* CoolSword: The Lustrous Sword and Dark Sword pack replace Cecil's polearms with proper swords as does the Waxing Sword and Waning Sword.
* CoolHelmet: As a Dark Knight, Cecil wears a full face covering helmet with a spooky faceplate.
* DopplegangerAttack: Radiant Wings leaves behind a phantom image that will all join in on the final blow.
* DoubleWeapon: Cecil's Waxing Cresent and Waning Cresent are double ended swords, although more asymmetrical then the typical example.
* ElementalPunch: The second portion of Souleater has Cecil palmstrike the enemy with his hand full of dark magic.
* EnergyBall: The Luminous and Tenebrous Blast HP Attacks attack by launching a sphere of light or dark magic at the enemy.
* EverythingsSparklyWithJewelry: Wears earrings.
* EvilCostumeSwitch and GoodCostumeSwitch.
* FacepalmOfDoom: The latter half of Soul Eater involves a palm full of BlackMagic.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: His Paladin outfits are variably white, gold, and bright blue.
* GoodArmorEvilArmor: Exemplified, the Dark Knight armor is black, spikey, with sculpted musculature and a RageHelm while the Paladin armor is white with a heroic cape and circlet instead of a helmet.
* GoombaStomp: Nightfall dives down on an opponent pointy end first.
* GravityMaster: The Gravity Ball spell, which forces enemies straight to the ground when they are hit by it.
* GravitySucks: Abyssal Gate will drag enemies into it before striking them.
* HealThyself: Holy Flame is on the slow side but when it does hit Cecil recovers 400 HP.
* HolyHandGrenade: When in Paladin form he attacks using Holy elemental magic.
* InstantCostumeChange: When he switches between the Paladin and the Dark Knight.
* LightningBruiser: As a Paladin Cecil is fairly zippy and hits like a freight train, but is lacking in range.
* MagicKnight: Cecil's Dark Knight mode focuses more on its dark magic then it does swordplay.
* MightyGlacier: As a Dark Knight Cecil is a long ranged one.
* MythologyGag: The StabTheSky pose Cecil takes when transforming between Paladin and Dark Knight are taken directly from the opening of 3D versions of IV.
* OrnamentalWeapon: Both the Dark Knight and Paladin carry a superfluous sword and dagger that they never draw.
* PainfullySlowProjectile: Gravity Ball and Teneborous Blast create spheres of dark magic that stalk enemies slowly, giving Dark Knight Cecil great zoning potential.
* ThePaladin: Cecil's Paladin mode is a hybrid between Assassin and Vanguard, focusing more on aerial swordfighting then long ranged magic use.
* PurpleIsTheNewBlack: His darkness attacks are mostly deep purple.
* PurpleProse: Cecil's speech is quite flowery, fittingly for a KnightInShiningArmor such as himself.
* PowerFloats: As a Paladin Cecil does a lot of this, fitting for someone who's specialty is aerial combat.
* SacredFlames: The Holy Flame attack is a pillar of white fire sacred fire that Cecil can only use in his Paladin form.
* SculptedPhysique: The Dark Knight's armor is stylized to appear like it's powerfully muscled, his alternate outfit averts this by having it more closely resemble plate armor.
* SpellBlade: Enchants his sword with Holy and Dark powers for his Attacks.
* StabTheSky: Cecil does this pose when using his Job Change.
* StanceSystem: Cecil can switch between his Dark Knight and Paladin classes with his EX Skill. Dark Knight favors ground attacks and has range while Paladin favors aerial combat and boasts strong melee strikes.
* SwordBeam: Luminous/Tenebrous Blast both shoot a sphere of energy from a slash of Cecil's blade while Dark Bane is a bolt of magic shot from the tip of the blade.
* SwordPlant: Cecil does this in order to cast Dark/Holy Flame.
* TechnicolorBlade: His Dark Sword is has navy blue blade while his Lustrous Sword is red one.
* TechnicolorFire: Dark Flame and Holy Flame both generate a flames both unusual colors of purple and white.
* YinYangBomb: Cecil uses both Dark and Holy magic.

Kain is an Assassin-type fighter who specializes in aerial combat and mobility allowing him to rapidly pursue enemies. Kain's EX Skill, Jump, has a short cooldown and can passively charge to three levels: the first is a powerful leaping attack; the second grants Kain a buff known as Dragoon's Pride, giving him more jumps; and the third tacks on HP Damage to the attack, giving him more versatility in finishing blows.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: While he's a member of the main roster the same as any other character, in the story mode for the console release, Kain isn't even present. This is extremely odd since he was a major player in the previous game, and Lightning and Vaan, who were also supposed to be KilledOffForReal too, do return.
* AirJousting: His specialty, being a Dragoon he's an aerial master and a wielder of spears.
* AnimalMotifs: Dragons, naturally, from his armor to his attack calls.
* BadassCape: His Hooded Man costume comes with one which helps sell his whole mysterious vagabond look.
* BadassesWearBandanas: Kain's Hooded Man outfit wears a mysterious looking bandanna in lieu of an actual hood for a very similar effect.
* BladeOnAStick: Kain's favored weapon is a spear with two heads, barring the Dragoon Lance and Spear of Trials model which only has one.
* BladeSpam: Fang and Claw is a long combo of spear slashes and stabs.
* BlowYouAway: Kain's only magic is Wind elemental, as a MythologyGag to his ultimate weapon which could cast randomly cast Tornado and/or the Whirlwind Augment which can be given to any character in the 3D Remake.

* CoolHelmet: Dragon shaped with purple hair-like tassels, as a Holy Dragoon he exchanges it for a CoolCrown decorated with dragon wing ornaments.
* DeathFromAbove: The Dragoon signature skill Jump makes its return as Kain's EX Skill.
* DragonKnight: Kain is the iconic (Although not first) Franchise/FinalFantasy dragoon.
* EyeObscuringHat: Kain's eyes are not visible under the shadow of his helmet.
* ForceField: The Avenger HP Attack has Kain create a magic barrier to protect himself while he executes his attack.
* GoombaStomp: Quite a few of Kain's attacks end landing spike first down on an enemy
* Guyliner: Kain has a meticulously manicured set of fingernails painted purple and filed to a sharp point.
* InASingleBound: As a Dragoon his specialty is giant powerful leaps and jumping attacks.
* JavelinThrower: Gungnir has Kain hurl his lance as one complete with the correct posture and throwing form.
* JumpPhysics: Kain can have more than the average amount of jumps by having his "Dragoon's Pride" status activated.
* MythologyGag:
** In his trailer, Kain uses his Jump attack to pierce the tornado shielding Firion with his Vortex of Arms attack from above, this of course is a required strategy for fighting Barbariccia in Final Fantasy IV.
** Kain's Vorpal Thrust, Impulse Drive and Fang and Claw attacks are taken whole cloth from the Dragoon job in VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV.
** His victory and summoning animations both have him switch his lance to his right hand for his iconic pose from IV[='=]s logo.
** The Wind Spear that belongs to Dark Kain is the weapon he had equipped when he joins the party while the Dragoon's Lance used in the Holy Dragoon costume is the spear Kain had equipped when he joined the party.
* NameOfCain: Kain is named after the biblical figure, representing his role in the story as Cecil's resentful elder brother figure.
* PeekABangs: In his Hooded Man costume, Kain's hair hangs over his right eye which helps bring up his mysteriousness credibility.
* ProngsOfPoseidon: Kain's alternate weapon the Wind Spear is a two pronged bident, fittingly this particular spear design comes from the one wielded by Dark Kain.
* RapunzelHair: Kain's long blond ponytail reaches down to his butt in his Holy Dragoon outfit.
* SculptedPhysique: Like Cecil, Kain's armor is stylized to look like a muscular torso.
* ShouldersOfDoom: Kain's shoulder pads in his Holy Dragoon outfit are on the massive side.
* SliceAndDiceSwordsmanship: Kain uses his spear as both a slashing and stabbing weapon but because of the length of the spearhead, this is entirely plausible.
* SlideAttack: Puncture begins with a sliding stab from Kain's spear.
* SpellBlade: Kain ignites his spear with dragon fire when he uses his Fang and Claw attack.
* SpinAttack: The Vanquish HP Attack attacks with a rising or diving spinning stab depending on whether Kain is above or below the enemy.
* SwordAndFist: Or rather Spear and Leg, given the pole vaulting flip kicks Kain can do assisted with his spear.
* TornadoMove: Tornado of course launches a tornado at enemies.

* WindIsGreen: Cyclone launches a green sphere of wind magic at enemies.

When all the crystals where gathered, the Giant of Babil, an ancient weapon of the Lunarians, was unsealed. Golbez used the Giant to try and eliminate humanity, but he was thwarted by Cecil and a sage from the moon named Fusoya, who revealed Golbez's true identity and lineage as kin to Cecil, controlled by a greater evil that lurked on the moon.
::
Golbez is a Marksman-type fighter, attacking from a distance with spells that become more powerful when he has summoned his Shadow Dragon. Golbez begins battles with his Shadow Dragon summoned, greatly amplifying the power of his magic, but it will be dispelled when he loses 1000 HP or more from one HP Attack. Golbez has two EX Skills: Binding Cold, which freezes enemies in place when Shadow Dragon has been summoned, leaving them vulnerable to attack; and Shadow Dragon, which will call his dragon to his side once more after it has been dispelled.
----

* AttackAnimal: Golbez's Shadow Dragon is his weapon and when it is summoned all his spells are more powerful.
* TheAtoner: Much like in the previous games, Golbez seeks to make up for his past as Zemus's pawn.
* BadassArmfold: He loves to do this in some of his animations; normal moving animation, Nightglow's end pose, and victory pose to name them.
* BadassCape: Golbez is famous for his CapeSwish and it billowing dramatically as he fights.
* BareHandedBladeBlock: Golbez does this in the end of the battle cinematic, catching Squall's Gunblade in his hand.
* BattleAura: When his dragon is summoned, Golbez glows with an evil looking aura.
* BlackKnight: A magical version, his theme song is even called Clad in Black.
* BreathWeapon: When the Shadow Dragon is summoned, it will shoot many of Golbez's spells from its mouth instead of him firing them.
* CainAndAbel: With Cecil. Guess who's the Cain.
* CapeSwish: Whenever Golbez casts an EX Skill he flicks his cape as part of the animation.
* CastingAShadow: Golbez's Black Fang attack conjures a spike of dark magic to impale enemies.
* ColonyDrop: He can drop meteors on enemies with his Meteor spell, when he has his Shadow Dragon summoned he can drop two for the price of one with Twin Meteor.
* CoolHelmet: His asymmetrical all encompassing horned helmet revealing nothing of his face.
* DarthVaderClone: He is the current Trope Image, being an intimidating done up in black armor who turns out to be related to the hero.
* ElementalPowers: Golbez can use ice, wind, lightning, fire, water and earth magic in addition to gravity.
* Fireballs: Heat Blast fires one as a straightforward projectile attack.
* GravitySucks: His Abyss Quasar spell will suction enemies into itself.
* HarmlessFreezing: Binding Cold will freeze enemies in place but deal very little damage. Of course, that is the perfect time for Golbez's team to launch an attack on that poor sod...
* JackOfAllStats: Golbez is fairly quick and has powerful attacks with high priority, but without his Shadow Dragon he is more of a MasterOfNone.
* LongRangeFighter: Golbez lacks a close ranged keep-away spell.
* MagicalGesture: Although they no longer function like FullContactMagic attacks in the previous game, his attacks still retain grandiose movement in the casting process.
* MagicMissileStorm: Lingering Spark fires multiple bolts of lightning magic at the enemy in one go.
* MythologyGag:
** When Golbez summons his Shadow Dragon it will contort into the same shape as its sprite artwork from Final Fantasy IV.
** Golbez's Shadow Dragon being dispelled from losing 1000 HP or more from one HP attack, the starting bravery amount for everyone, is an interpretation of Shadow Dragon from its home game which is very susceptible to damage due to its abysmal stat and possessing only 1 HP despite being able to OHKO Cecil's companions.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Golbez commands a serpentine black dragon as his weapon. His alternate weapons are different dragon enemies from his home game, the Silver, Gold and Dark Dragons.
* PainfullySlowProjectile: The Aqueous and Gale Sphere spells fire a slow homing ball of water or wind that which will stalk the enemy relentlessly.
* PowerFloats: Like many villains, Golbez does not bother to walk and prefers to levitate for his movement.
* RecursiveAmmo: Lingering Spark summon a sphere of lightning that launches smaller bolts of lightning at enemies.
* ShouldersOfDoom: His armor has famously immense pauldrons.
* SummonMagic: Golbez's gimmick is to summon his Shadow Dragon to empower his spells.
* SquishyWizard: Without his dragon, Golbez's attacks lack bite and fires far slower, making him far more vulnerable.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: A later update sees him speaking with Kam'lanaut on the subject of serving Spiritus. When Kam'lanaut observes that he feels serving the gods to be thankless, Golbez suggests that he tell Spiritus as much.
* TinTyrant: For a certain value of tyrant, but it helps pull together his DarthVaderClone ensemble.
* TheVoiceless: In the initial release he only got a brief appearance near the end of Story Mode and then in the final battle FMV, and never gets a word out save for some grunts during the fight.
* WindIsGreen: As with some of the other characters wind magic, Golbez's Gale Sphere is colored green.

[[caption-width-right:350:The Wanderer]]

The protagonist of VideoGame/FinalFantasyV. He is a wanderer who traveled the world astride his chocobo companion as per his father's dying wish. After helping Princess Lenna and her companions to the Wind Shrine, he was chosen by the Wind Crystal to save the other crystals from shattering and releasing the monster Exdeath.
::
Bartz is a Specialist-type fighter that can attack from many ranges and speeds. His gimmick allows him to master his attacks, powering them up and receiving a permanent StatusBuff when executing an attack several times depending on the types of attack, and whether the attack hits the target. Bartz's EX Skill, Good Luck Charm, grants a status buff to his entire party, the strength of which is dependent on the amount of jobs mastered and during this time he will also master his jobs much quicker.
----
* AllYourPowersCombined: Wields special attacks from many of V's jobs.
* BadassCape: Bartz wears a short simple cape compared to the long fancy affairs other heroes wear.
* BareFistedMonk: He use the Monk jobs Brawler and Kick skills for a close ranged attack on the ground.
* CooldownManipulation: When Dragoon is mastered Bartz also uses Lancet on enemies allowing him to reduce the cooldowns on his EX Skills.
* CounterAttack: Bartz's Knight job uses Guard to block an enemies attack and then counters with Two-Handed with Bartz's sword.
* DanceBattler: The Dancer HP Attack can do one of two attacks, the weaker Tempting Tango or the more powerful Sword Dance.
* DeathFromAbove: The Dragoon attack is predictably its signature move, the Jump attack.
* ElementalPowers: Bartz is capable of a few, using the BlackMage or Mystic Knight job to cast FireIceLightning spells and Geomancer to use Wind Slash and Earthquake.
* EvolvingAttack: Bartz's Job Master gimmick powers up each attack (And therefore job) after its been used successfully three times.
* GoodLuckCharm: Bartz's EX Skill is called this and takes the shape of a feather from his noble steed Boco.
* HyperspaceArsenal: Bartz has a good seven weapons but he calls and dismisses them with magic.
* IaijutsuPractitioner: The Samurai HP Attack uses the Iainuki skill to deal the final blow of its attack, true to form Bartz does a draw slash but in lieu of a sheath draws his sword from his HyperspaceArsenal instead.
* JackOfAllStats: Bartz's many different jobs give him a very balanced moveset in terms of range, damage and speed.
* JavelinThrower: In the final battle cinematic, Bartz throws his spear at Golbez this way (but he can't actually do so in gameplay).
* JobSystem: Bartz abandons his Mimey ways to use a different Job for each attack. Including the Dragoon, Monk, BlackMage, Blue Mage, Ranger, Mystic Knight, Ninja, Samurai, Druid Geomancer, Dancer and Knight.
* LegendaryWeapon: Bartz's initial weapon set are the Sealed Weapons from Final Fantasy V, except for his sword which is the Brave Blade rather than Excalibur.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: The Knight Hp Attack will have Bartz use a shield to block an attack and then deliver a CounterAttack with his sword.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: The third part of the mastered Blue Mage attack is to launch several missiles at the enemy, at least it used to do that until later patch only allows him to fire one missile.
* MagikarpPower: Unlike other examples of this trope, Bartz can handle his own; but he really shines once he starts mastering abilities. This is a blessing and a small crutch. Depending on various factors and enemy aggression, it can be, albeit rarely, possible for Bartz to have a hard time mastering any of his abilities. If that happens, Bartz can find himself in trouble quickly.
* MoneyToThrowAway: For his Samurai attack he starts using the the Zeninage attack, throwing several coins at the enemy before finishing them with a swing of his Katana.
* MultiMeleeMaster: Bartz wields a different weapon type depending on which job he is using including his Brave Blade for Knight and Mystic Knight, a Dragoon's lance, a pair of ninja blades or dancer's knife and a Samurai's Katana.
* MythologyGag: Bartz's Arsenal IV weapon set gives him weapons from other heroes like his mimic style in the previous Dissidia game, including Tidus's Brotherhood as his sword, Squall's Revolver as his katana, Cecil's Holy Fang for a lance, the Onion Knight's Eternity Blades for his ninja blades, Zidane's Mage Masher for his dagger, the Warrior of Light's Lustrous Shield and Firion's Bow.
* Mythril: Bartz shares most of the Mythril Weapon Pack with Firion barring his Bow, Ninja Blade and Katana, which did not have Mythril versions in his game and are instead the equivalent leveled Silver Bow, Kunai and Ashura.
* OrnamentalWeapon: Bartz carries a dagger on his sash that he doesn't bother to use even as a Dancer or Ninja.
* RazorSharpHand: Death Claw is executed by swipes of Bartz's hands.
* Retraux: Bartz's Freelancer costume is based on the low on detail sprite artwork of Final Fantasy V.
* RingsOfDeath: Bartz's third weapon pack changes his ordinary ninja knives for a pair of Moonring Blades.
* SpellBlade: He has the trope namer as one of his attacks, where he uses the three traditional black magic spells to empower a threefold sword attack.
* Samurai: Bartz's DLC costume is his samurai job armor, complete with a kabuto and mask.
* StatusBuff: Bartz gets a permanent one with every job he masters, these buffs can be spread to his entire team temporarily using his EX Skill.
* SuperSentaiStance: Bartz's Goblin Punch is still executed by doing a Sentai-esque pose.
* TechnicolorBlade: His Brave Blade is entirely red in color.
* ThreeStrikeCombo: Both Bartz's Mystic Knight and unmastered Monk bravery attacks attack with three strike combos.

[[caption-width-right:350:The Tree]]

The villain of VideoGame/FinalFantasyV. Exdeath was once a magical tree in the sacred forest of Moore. Heroes sealed countless demons within its boughs until one day, the tree itself took life and twisted into the monster Exdeath. Twenty years ago, he led an invasion into a parallel world to try and destroy the crystals that protected ThePowerOfTheVoid, but the Warriors of Dawn used them to seal him away. The seal could not hold him forever, however, and when humanity began to Magitek siphon the power of the crystals with their machines, he began his plan anew.
::
Exdeath is a Specialist-type fighter who can attack from all ranges and can switch between three modes--Berserker, Nulifier, and Obstructor--which change the properties of his attacks and his EX Skill. Berserker mode focuses on heavy attacks, giving him SuperArmor on some attacks, and uses the EX Skill Black Hole, which causes rapid and powerful Bravery points degeneration to the enemy struck. Nulifier Mode allows him to inflict Curse on hit preventing enemies from using EX Skills, and his EX Skill is PowerOfTheVoid, which creates a zone around Exdeath that silences enemies. In Hexer mode, Exdeath's attacks will inflict enemies with Death Knell (Attack, Speed and Defense debuff) but has lowered attack power, and his EX Skill, White Dwarf, will increase the effectiveness and length of debuffs applied to enemies.
----
* BadassCape: Unlike most of the villains who have one, it is not a PimpedOutCape, but he has a fairly dramatic CapeSwish all the same.
* BarrierWarrior: Although he lacks the same guard and CounterAttack style from the previous games, he still has Omni-Block as an HP Attack.
* BlowYouAway: His Maelstrom HP Attack returns attacking enemies with a giant TornadoMove.
* CoolHelmet: Exdeath wears a unique frog-mouth styled helmet compared to the other big horned helms of his TinTyrant compatriots.
* CoolSword: He wields a fancy sword known as the Moore Blade, which has a hilt almost as long as the blade. But he'll only carry it with his hands, preferring to move it with magic to attack.
* Curse: The status caused by Nulifier Mode is Curse which prevents the use of EX Skills.
* DishingOutDirt: His aptly named Earthshaker spell causes stones to erupt from under enemies.
* EldritchAbomination: He is, a tree filled with demons that takes on a roughly human shape.
* FlyingWeapon: Exdeath never actually swings his sword with his arms, preferring to let his magic do it for him.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: Much like with a MirrorMatch, no comment is made when Exdeath is in The Interdimensional Rift stage where his true tree form is visibly growing from the stage.
* GravityMaster: He launches a ball of gravity energy with his 100 Gs brave attack and his Almagest HP attack, and has Black Hole as an EX Skill in his Power mode.
* InstantRunes: His Delta Attack returns and functions the same way, summoning a magical rune and stabbing it with his sword for a more powerful attack.
* MagicKnight: He has a fairly even split between magical and physical attacks.
* MightyGlacier: Exdeath has possibly the slowest dash speed in the game, and the use of Reverse Polarity is crucial to his mobility.
* OrnamentalWeapon: Like many other characters, Exdeath carries a knife with him, but he only uses his sword and magic to fight.
* PowerOfTheVoid: It is his signature ability to manipulate the void with his magic, manifesting as gravity-based attacks and teleportation.
* RazorWind: He can launch a crescent shockwave of wind at enemies with his Vacuum Wave attack.
* RedRightHand: Like Garland, his inhumanity is visible from his ungloved hands, which are chalk white and have long black claws.
* Teleportation: Reverse Polarity returns and functions the same way it did in the previous games, letting Exdeath Telefrag enemies by teleporting onto them. His losing animation is also teleporting to another place through a void gate.
* TinTyrant: Exdeath is a towering and villainous figure in cyan-colored armor.
* StanceSystem: Unlike with Job Change or Paradigm Shifts used by other characters, Mode Change will not change his movepool but it will change the properties of those attacks.
* StandardStatusEffects: When in Nuliffier mode, Exdeath's attacks inflict enemies with Silence, and when in Hexer mode, he inflicts enemies with attack, speed and defense penalties.
* WhenTreesAttack: He only takes the form of a man in a suit of armor, but his true form is an enchanted tree filled with demons.
