While he is dismissive of the "niners", he falls in love with Lucy after his best friend Paul begins to date her. When that relationship falls through, he begins to date Lucy, but she begins to distance herself from him because of his drinking. After an intoxicated Clutch tries to put the moves on Lucy at one of her parties, she ends it completely with him, but the two sort of make amends in ''Degrassi High'', when they are both involved in the making of the Zit Remedy's music video.
