* MeaningfulName: [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strelitzia Strelizia]], the flower it is named after, is alternatively called Bird-of-Paradise flower, evoking the symbolism of the one-winged bird associated with Hiro and Zero-Two. Its honey-yellow/orangeish spike-shaped petals also resemble similarly colored and shaped magma spear of the mecha-Strelizia.

* MoralEventHorizon: Appears to have skated right up to it, if not crossed it, by the reveal that he tortured Zero Two as a child. Then apparently erased the memory of doing so in her mind.

* AmbiguouslyBi: The "partner shuffle" discussion in episode 11 basically confirmed Ikuno is attracted to Ichigo. She claimed she wanted to try a pistil-pistil arrangement in the event they ever lose a stamen, but her frustration when she failed to connect with Ichigo tells otherwise. However, she is able to connect and pilot successfully with Mitsuru [[spoiler:and Futoshi]]. It's ambiguous because the series isn't very clear on how much the pilots must like each other for the connection to work or if sexual attraction is really a requirement.
** The manga shows that Ikuno thinks of Ichigo when she's connecting with the boys.

* BadassAdorable: When he was younger. While he didn't get to kill klaxosaurs back then, he was undeniably tenacious, as seen when [[spoiler: he helps break Zero Two out of prison and help her evade the authorities for a while. Though now that he regained his memories, as can be seen in Episode 14, he's slowly but surely getting back said tenacity]].

* {{Kaiju}}: With the exception of the relatively tiny Conrad-class, all klaxosaurs tower over the FRANXX. Gutenberg-class klaxosaurs in particular are as large in relation to the FRANXX as the FRANXX themselves are in relation to humans, and the wormlike klaxosaur from episode 4 is estimated to be several miles long. * WasOnceAMan:[[spoiler: During the Gran Crevasse battle, what looks to be a '''petrified human''' falls out of a shattered klaxosaur core. Given that Zero Two's transformation is referred 'saurification' and the clean room-like environments that most of the adults live in, there's likely a much deeper connection between humanity and the klaxosaurs than APE's higher-ups are willing to admit.]]

* HeadbuttingHeroes: Even after she accepts Hiro's feelings for Zero Two, the girls just do not like each other (save for Zero Two liking Ichigo as a [[{{Troll}} trolling]] victim). Zero Two thinks Ichigo's useless, and Ichigo thinks 02 is a disrespectful loose cannon. Although by episode 9, things have started improving between them.

** One of the reasons she pressures Hiro to partner with her is that 02 seems like a dangerous person who wants to separate Hiro from [[FamilyOfChoice the squad]]. She's not ''wrong'' about this, but she is twisting the truth for her own benefit.

* NobleBigot: She was fine when Hiro piloted with Naomi- with someone who was part of the group. But she distrusts the strange 02 for doing the same thing, despite 02 saving all of their lives.

* OrderVsChaos: She has physically struggled [[note]]in the official but non-canon [=4komas=][[/note]] to make 02 wear pajamas. 02 is equally opposed to wearing any sort of state-mandated clothing.

* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: ...maybe? [[spoiler:After 02 and Hiro reconciliate, Strelizia is almost completely crimson and she is shown to be capable of completely obliterate the opposition.]]

* AmbiguouslyEvil: Though he has the protection of humanity in mind, he is willing to [[spoiler:run horrifying experiments on a young 002 that basically amounts to torture to see how much her body can take.]] And he doesn't bat an eye at it.

* CloseRangeCombatant: The only unit on the team with no ranged abilities whatsover. Even Delphinium, a fellow DualWielding melee fighter, can at least throw her spears.

** Her voice actor has also likened her to a cat in interviews, which fits well with her pointy ear-like horns, her CuteLittleFangs, her occasional feral mannerisms (such as showing affection by licking), and Strelitiza's lion-like Stampede Mode.

** [[spoiler:Episode 15]] shows Stampede-mode Strelizia as a lot more capable, being the most powerful Franxx in the battle even when piloted alone. Though [[spoiler: [[SanitySlippage it does NOT help Zero Two's sanity]], and Strelizia gets significantly more powerful once she manages to link up with Hiro]]

* LackOfEmpathy: Zero Two doesn't display any concern for the lives of any pilot besides Hiro, because she thinks of them the same she thinks of herself. That is, they are all meant to live and die fighting klaxosaurs, [[AMillionIsAStatistic so in the bigger picture it doesn't matter if they die today or tomorrow]].

** Her pointy ear-like horns, her CuteLittleFangs, and her occasional feral mannerisms--not to mention the fact that her Franxx has a lion-like form when she pilots it solo-- also liken her to cats.

* AnimalMotifs: Her beast form is wolflike (though it has a mane like a male lion), an animal with strong connotations of strength and independence ("lone wolf"). However, this symbolism is [[DeconstructedTrope deliberately undermined]]. Beast Strelizia has only ever managed to immobilize a klaxosaur before having to pause to recover, and get rendered helpless by another. Zero Two may be able to fly it solo, but if she wants to accomplish anything, she needs a partner.

* ThemeNaming: Each class of Klaxosaur is named after a deeper transition layer of the Earth's interior, and, correspondingly, the scientist after which they were named, from the [[Conrad https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conrad_discontinuity]] to the [[Lehmann discontinuity https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_core#Discovery]].

* ThemeNaming: Each class of Klaxosaur is named after a deeper transition layer of the Earth's core.

* TankGoodness: Has the appearance and function of a giant land tank, carrying huge swarms of smaller klaxosaurs within itself. It even has tank treads in place of feet.

* SuperPrototype: Even amongst a team of SuperPrototype [[AceCustom Ace Customs]], Strezilla stands above the rest.
