* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: PlayedWith. While Mukuro had always been subservient to Junko and wanted to do what would make her happy, including killing anyone in their way, Mukuro was never openly [[IncestSubtext attracted to her sister]], nor was she shown to ''enjoy'' the attempts on her life like she is here.

* IncestSubtext: How she acts when she sees Junko is too close to seeing your crush rather than your sister.

* KickTheMoralityPet: As a sign of the fact that this portrayal of Mukuro is [[AdaptationalVillainy not the same as others]], even though other installments of the franchise have made it very clear that she is in love with Naegi, in this anime she call him a loser and suggests to Junko to kill him.
* KnightTemplarBigSister: Don't interfere with Junko's plans to destroy all of humanity as part of her DespairGambit or she will personally have you tortured or even killed. Just don't do it.
* LackOfEmpathy: She seems complete indifferent towards other people, unless it's her sister Junko. Unlike her sister, she doesn't take any sadistic pleasure in hurting or killing people, but at the same time she shows little concern for other people's suffering.

* LuminescentBlush: A couple of times during her interaction with Junko. Certainly plays up the IncestSubtext.

* ObliviouslyEvil: PlayedWith - while she willingly does all kinds of evils for her sister, she has no idea how far Junko planned to take them. Not that she cares after it becomes clear.

* TooKinkyToTorture: Her reaction to Junko's attempts to stab and blow her up? Pure bliss. This only seems to pertain to abuse from Junko, as she clearly wasn't too happy about getting slapped around by Izuru.

* StrongFamilyResemblance: Natsumi looks and acts suspiciously like a feminine Fuyuhiko. They should do, of course, being family members and living the same life. However, she looks ''exactly'' like he does, including their skin tone and body type, though their eyes are different.

* AlphaBitch: She comes from a wealthy and influential family, and spend most of time bullying other students, so she fits the bill.
* AssholeVictim: Downplayed. While she is unpleasant, arrogant and likes to threaten those that get on her nerves, Sato outright ''murdering'' her is painted as a tragedy and Mahiru is inconsolable because while she didn't ''like'' Natsumi, she didn't want her to suffer ''that'' much DisproportionateRetribution.

* BigLittleSister: Despite being Fuyuhiko's little sister, she's taller by 5cm (2") and more mature-looking.

* HeelFaceDoorSlam: Just when we are beginning to find out Natsumi isn't a complete {{Jerkass}}, and needs someone to help her work through her insecurities, she is killed off in the next scene.

* AlphaBitch: She comes from a wealthy and influential family, and spend most of time bullying over students, so she fits the bill.

* CuteAndPsycho: Even though she is a cute teenage girl, she is still a MafiaPrincess that uses her family's influence to bully people she doesn't like. Even her brother state "She's always been totally nuts..."

* BigBrotherWorship: A deconstruction. She loves and respects her brother to the point she believes unless she has a talent she can't be with him, which eventually caused her death.

* TheRemnant: As the Remnants of Despair following the death of Junko Enoshima.

* YouthfulFreckles:

* WouldHitAGirl: Has a fight with Akane in the first episode. However, she's as much of a BloodKnight as he is, so it's not so much a fight as it is a sparring session.

* AffablyEvil: As usual, Mukuro remains charmingly polite even when committing crimes for Junko's goals out of [[ExtremeDoormat subservience]] to her, and compared to [[FauxAffablyEvil Junko's plain rudeness towards everyone around her]], it's definitely not an act, at the least. However, unlike the first game, she crosses into faux like Junko during and after conducting the Student Council massacre, as she maintains a polite tone when requesting the council murder each other, and also makes threats to Peko while battling her during their confrontation.

* AffablyEvil: As usual, Mukuro remains charmingly polite even when committing crimes for Junko's goals out of [[ExtremeDoormat subservience]] to her, and compared to [[FauxAffablyEvil Junko's plain rudeness towards everyone around her]], it's definitely not an act, at the least.

The feared Ultimate Yakuza, heir to the country’s largest crime syndicate, the Kuzuryu Clan. Because he dislikes crowding and being too familiar, he keeps a bit of distance between himself and his classmates. He’s the type who takes honor and moral codes seriously, and he will open up to someone he trusts.

* AssholeVictim: Downplayed. While she is unpleasant, arrogant and likes to threaten those that get on her nerves, killing her for bullying is definitely a case of DisproportionateRetribution.

* TheCorrupter: Inadvertently, her drive to join the main branch kept bringing up Hinata's doubts and finally her death lead him to Sakakura who broke his spirit.

* DoomedByCanon: ''Danganronpa 2'' established that she's going to be killed.

* {{Yandere}}: A platonic example for Mahiru. She killed Natsumi to protect her.

* OreOnna: She refers to herself with "ore" to emphasize her lack of feminine traits.

* EveryoneHasStandards: He's willing to go along with many of the Steering Committee's actions, but he was more reluctant when it came to the cover-up of the first killing game.

* AdaptationalVillainy: ''Literature/DanganronpaZero'' and the ''Literature/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavocIf'' sidestory both portray Mukuro as a rather reserved girl who lived under Junko's shadow and had quite a few sympathetic traits, and she even goes as far as pulling a HeelFaceTurn and saving the survivors of Hope's Peak Academy in ''IF''. However, ''Despair Arc'' heavily downplays her sympathetic qualities and instead focuses a lot on the thoroughly reprehensible actions she committed as an accomplice in Junko's schemes and portrays her as a remorseless accomplice. Although ''Despair Arc'' takes place in some time prior to ''IF'' or ''Zero'', and even after her HeelFaceTurn in ''IF'', her desire to make Junko happy is still (along with her feelings for Makoto, which are absent in ''Side:Despair'') her primary motivating factor, which translates into giving Junko the despair of being betrayed by her own sister.
** This is somewhat PlayedWith, as the producers state that the original plan for the series was to show more scenes of Class 78, which would have displayed more of Mukuro's sympathetic qualities and her relationship with Makoto, but the creators unfortunately had to cut it out due to time and budget constraints.
