* DirtyOldWoman: She is very interested in male genitalia, offering to suck off Okarun when she meets him.
* DiscardAndDraw: [[spoiler:Her sealing made her lose her original powers, but being put into a {{Maneki Neko}} gave her some ability to [[WindsOfDestinyChange manipulate luck]].]]
* DomainHolder:She's unfathomably powerful so long as she stays within the bound spirit’s territory.

* NobodyCallsMeChicken: One way to stop her from immediately killing you is to challenge her to a race or a game that involves speed. She takes great pride in her speed and won’t turn down any challenge.
* SealedEvilInATeddyBear: [[spoiler:She barely manages to escape being destroyed alongside the crab spirit and possesses Okarun, but Momo's grandma slaps her spirit out of Okarun and into a {{maneki neko}} figurine. She isn't able to grab her powers on the way, so now she's inhabiting a five-inch-tall doll until Momo's grandma gives her back her powers.]]
* SirSwearsALot: She swears like a sailor, and almost everything she says is peppered with insults.
* SuperSpeed: But of course. She’s capable of running at 100 km/h and doesn’t even slow down when turning, which allows her to catch up to a train that’s going at 120 km/h but has to slow down when it turns.
* TokenEvilTeammate: After her defeat she hangs out with the main characters and sometimes helps them, but she hasn't changed her morals at all.

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: The main characters' group bandaging him up and feeding him curry is apparently the nicest he's ever been treated, and he swears loyalty to them from then forward.
* BizarreAlienBiology: The boxing Gig Worker and his species as a whole have blood close enough to ''cow milk'' that it can be used as a blood transfusion for them.
* BoxingBattler: He wears boxing gloves and fights by punching opponents at high speed.
* TheBusCameBack: After departing to his home planet at the end of the Loch Ness Monster arc, he returns in the next arc after realizing that a cow would not survive on his home planet.
* CatchPhrase: [[Music/{{Abba}} "Chiquitita, ewe and mai cry."]] Apparently referring to his son, whom he calls "Chiquitita". It changes to a quote from an old energy drink commercial when he's mutated.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: He and the main characters didn't seem to account for how his home planet's environment might not be suitable for a cow to live in, forcing him and Chiquitita to indefinitely stay on Earth and work on a dairy farm so as to get a good constant supply of milk.
* {{Expy}}: His mantis shrimp form is an expy of Alien Baltan from ''{{Series/Ultraman}}''.
* HeelFaceTurn: After being one the main antagonists of the Serpo Arc, he learns that Earth can easily supply him with the blood transfusions that his son needs from the main characters since his blood is just milk, which is plentifully available on Earth. He later permanently moves with Chiquitita to Earth and becomes a recurring ally to the main characters in Alien affairs.
* NoSell: During the fight with the space globalists, Shrimp [[spoiler:not only tanks the mantis[=/=]water beetle armor invader's [[LaserBlade laser claws]], but he also expels the invader's venom from his body with a flex and a one-liner]].

Every official translation has its own version of this, from the English translation calling him "Peeney-Weeney" to the Spanish translation calling him "Penecito" (little penis). All of the teens present hold in their laughter.
* VisualDevelopment: In the Loch Ness arc, he's drawn as tall and muscular, with his eyes being obscured. As soon as the gang gives him medical treatment, he's drawn as short, pudgy and has cartoony eyes on the ends of his antennae, mainly to give him a far friendlier appearance.
* WeaksauceWeakness: As a mantis shrimp, the boxing Gig Worker has the punching ability of a mantis shrimp, and is ''even more powerful'' underwater, but ''doesn't have gills'', so it keeps having to surface to breathe.

* AdaptationalBadass: The legend usually portrays the Yokai as an urban legend whose powers are limited to appearing suddenly, and disfiguring or killing a single person at a time. As portrayed here, Reiko Kashima is described as the strongest Yokai known, and besides having a ton of powers the original legend never mentions (capacity to hipnotize others into acting as proxies, trapping things inside her mirror, and using reflective surfaces to teleport and attack), she is powerful enough to [[spoiler:single handedly stopping an alien invasion.]]

* JealousRomanticWitness: Averted. While Jiji is implied to still have feelings for Momo, he and Okarun are on great terms with each other.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: After a bad breakup, Ayase still takes the time to put herself between Okarun and some bullies to protect him. She then goes back to griping about her ex as if nothing happened, showing that she's selfless and a NiceGirl at heart.

* AffectionateNickname: Played with. Ayase refers to him as "Okarun", which is a play of "Occult-kun". This stemmed out of her outright refusal to call him by his name, as "Ken Takakura" invokes a very different image in her mind. Eventually, it becomes a more affectionate nickname, as Okarun endears himself to her.

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Okarun seeks to be Ayase's friend because she went out of her way to prevent him from being bullied, but they establish a quick friendship when they realize their mutual love for the occult and the supernatural.
* BestFriend: Ayase is his, their relationship being one that he cherishes and cares for to no end. That is, on top of her being his LoveInterest.

* CatchPhrase: "I'm an awkward fellow," a famous line from a commercial Ken Takakura (the actor) starred in. Ayase always gets flustered when he says it.

* ChickMagnet: He has at least four girls pining after him; Ayase, Aira, his class president, and Vamola.

* ConvertedFanboy: Becomes genuinely interested in spirits and ghosts after defeating Turbo Granny, and finds himself wanting to talk to Ayase at length on the subject.

* HiddenDepths: He is very affectionate and doting, which is an aspect that is not lost on Ayase.

* IJustWantToHaveFriends: The reason why he's so obsessed with aliens is due to him coming to the conclusion that he's such an outcast that only extraterrestrials will be willing to give him a chance. He's proven wrong by Ayase's companionship and is so ecstatic about having a FirstFriend that it's only later that he begins to see her in a romantic light.
* InSeriesNickname: Ayase refers to him solely as "Okarun" because his real name is the same as her CelebCrush and saying it flusters her.
* InsecureLoveInterest: He becomes intensely concerned about Ayase spending more time with Jiji upon learning that he's (allegedly) her FirstLove. Jiji's {{Bishonen}} good looks, athletic physique, and outgoing personality bring all of Okarun's insecurities to the surface.

* LookWhatICanDoNow: Repeatedly subverted. Something gets in the way every time he tries to train himself off-screen so he can show off to Ayase later, resulting in misunderstandings that lead to arguments between them.

A student at Ayase and Okarun's high school. A vain, popular girl who thinks that Ayase's secretly a demon and she’s been chosen to protect the world from her.

* AlphaBitch: Shiratori is proud of her own beauty, treats being nice to people as ''noblesse oblige'', and spreads a bunch of nasty rumors about Ayase after she telekinetically clobbers her with a pan. She's not particularly good at being effectively mean, though.

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Albeit it takes her a while, she's not a stranger to Ayase or Okarun's kindness, so she aims to reciprocate. The problem comes from the fact that she's still pretty insufferable.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: Shiratori fully buys into the idea that her popularity and cuteness is what objectively makes her pure and the one chosen to save the world from the “demon” Ayase.

* CharacterDevelopment: Introduced as an AlphaBitch, her experiences with Ayase and Okarun lead her to [[spoiler:repent and bombard her own popularity at school by admitting that she made up rumors about Ayase.]]

* WrongGenreSavvy: Shiratori acts like she's the heroine of a typical magical girl story, making speeches about how she's been chosen to save the world from the "demon" Ayase, and twists everything that happens around her as if it confirms her position as the beautiful and pure heroine.

Ayase's ChildhoodFriend and FirstLove. He reconnects with her to get her help with some spirits haunting his home and family.

* ChickMagnet: All the girls in his class begin blushing as soon as he introduces himself. Those who weren't impressed were quickly won over by his charms, as Ayase's friends unfortunately attest.

* DemotedToSatelliteLoveInterest: It's said that Jiji was Ayase's FirstLove, though it becomes readily apparent for him that she only seems to have eyes for Okarun.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Beneath his corny affections and enthusiasm, it's shown that Jiji yearns for Ayase and doesn't quite like how close she's gotten to Okarun.

* EyeScream: Ayase, in a fit of suicidal mind control, tears his eye out with a piece of glass when he tries to stop her. [[spoiler: The Evil Eye heals it when he possesses him.]]
* FirstLove: Seiko calls him as much, but Ayase questions if they were ever really that close during childhood, especially when he was one of the many kids who bullied her. That said, you can see young Ayase blushing and hanging on his every word during flashbacks to their childhood.
