* FairyGodmother: Margarete encourages Erika to pursue Kazuya no matter what, and regularly helps her escape from the Baam base so she can see him. Once she's found out for assisting Erika, her wings are forcibly cut off as punishment. Nevertheless, she continues to aid Erika and help her reunite with Kazuya, as she views the girl as her own daughter.

* AirborneAircraftCarrier: Guranrol and Cobrard. Both could carry around combat troops and several Mecha Soldiers. The first was equipped with giant missiles and four giant blades that could be turned in giant spinning cutters. The second was equiped with four-headed cobras that fired green lasers and a turret shot tinier missiles.
* AlienInvasion: The Barmians had no intention of invading Earth and wanted negotiating a peaceful settlement. However, the death by poisoning of their Emperor and the belief of Terrans had assassinated him changed that.

Added DiffLines:

* AntiVillain: All of the Baam antagonists except for [[spoiler: Olban and his lackey, Georiya]]. They're just trying to ensure their people survive.
* BeethovenWasAnAlienSpy: In episode 32, it's said that UsefulNotes/NewZealand was devastated from a war at some point in the past, but thanks to the support of the Baam Peace Corps, the country was able to get back on its feet. To repay their kindness, New Zealand welcomed Baam refugees and allowed them to have their own colony, Utopia, where both humans and Baamites live in peace.
* {{Brainwashed}}: Very much implied at one episode when Erika was shown a machine that allows her to think of happy thoughts and reduce her stress with her Baam friend Cindy, and Erika's first suspicious response is if it's a machine that will drill up teachings that HumansAreBastards and should die (it's not) to her brain. This gives the implication that many Baam soldiers (especially those under Olban) were practically indoctrinated to hate humans, making them very fanatic or at best REALLY fearful against humans.

Added DiffLines:

As he lays in Richter's arms, he tells him that he's made peace with his death, but his wife and daughter are sleeping on Small Baam and [[DyingWish he wants Richter to wake them soon]]. Richter promises that he will see it through. As his son, Gust, grieves for him, Richter tries to console him as well, only to be spurned and blamed for his death.
* AgentPeacock: Richter is a feminine-looking man with long blonde hair and thick eyelashes. His Roman attire includes a skirt. However, he's also a ProudWarriorRaceGuy that enjoys duelling for fun, is a MasterSwordsman and is a military leader.

** The Roman Robo Anime Climax Selection reveals that Richter's age is 19.
* AloofBigBrother: Richter cared about Erika but was too duty-bound to set an example for his own people. While he disowned her, he was actually grief-stricken that he could only cope by thinking that the Erika he knew was dead. He gets better by the final arc, but he's still very aloof.
* AnimalMotifs: Richter has a lion motif.
** His hair is untamed and grows downwards and backwards covering most of the head, neck and shoulders, much like a lion's mane.
** Episode 25 of ''Daimos'' is called ''Proud Young Lion Richter''.
* AppealToForce: He screams at Margerete that he will have her executed for aiding Erika, and also threatens to severely punish anyone he deems complicit with the humans.
* AngerBornOfWorry: He's furious at Erika for joining the war (and going behind his back to do so) but he was also worried she wouldn't make it back alive, due to his ideals that it is better to die than surrender. Obviously, Erika doesn't share such views.
* ArchEnemy: Kazuya Ryuzaki, the pilot of Daimos and the lover of Erika. Richter spends most of the series blaming him for the misfortune of the Baam people, and the two battle one-on-one in Episode 25.

* BerserkButton: Richter hates humans, and anyone who suggests making peace with them or sympathizing with them ends up on his shitlist.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Risked his life to save Erika from a fire when they were young. Even though Leon yelled at him that it was risky, he didn't care and together, they escaped from the flames.

The final straw is when Richter massacres large swathes of humans under the belief that they're selfish bastards, yet the human race still tries to salvage the remaining populace of Baam from crashing into Jupiter, after which he realizes he was wrong about them. * BroodingBoyGentleGirl: Richter is HotBlooded and distant from others, while his sister is more docile and innocent. It also applies to how they interact with others as well, with Erika happily accepting the Earthling's friendship while Richter writes off each attempt as a ploy to weaken the Baam.
* CainAndAbel: Invoked. Before arriving to the Earthern moon to have peace negotiations with the Earthlings, Richter expressed doubt about the kindness of the Earthlings, while Erika and Leon told him to look on the bright side and have hope for the future. Though the resolution to allow the Baam refugees to Earth was approved, King Leon was poisoned, and Richter assumed it was the work of the humans as they had given him the cup that had it. To avenge his father, Richter tried to shoot the Earthern delegates in spite of Leon begging him not to, saying it would destroy all chances of peace between the two nations. He used his final words to beg Erika to stop her brother. Throughout the series, Richter's drive to annihilate the Earth and Erika's desire for peace clash multiple times, driving the two further apart and causing Richter to mourn the sister he once knew and loved as a "traitor".[[spoiler: When Richter finds out that it was all BasedOnAGreatBigLie and it was in fact Georiya, a Baamite, who killed his father (being ordered to do so by Olban so he could have his throne), Richter is DrivenToSuicide from the guilt of realizing he took millions of innocent Earthling lives and kills himself. It goes to show that Richter ''did'' have some form of good in him, but he was so broken after seeing his father die that he was [[RevengeBeforeReason unable to see reason]].]]
* CantTakeCriticism: Richter reacts to criticism of him by calling for the critics to be executed. It's implied that even his most loyal soldiers, Raiza and Balbas, fear him. While Richter intends to use this to keep his subordinates in line, it has the opposite effect as some Baamites are disgusted by his tyranny and defect to LaResistance.
* CaptainPatriotic: He believes that everything he's doing is for the good of the Baam. [[spoiler: Olban, who wants him to be a pawn to his ambitions, enforces his behaviour]].
-->'''Olban:''' ''"Remember, Richter, the fate of one billion Baam-seijin is in your hands!"''
* CharClone: Inverted. Richter preceded Char, and it can be inferred that he was one of the inspirations for his character, namely his YouKilledMyFather motive and [[spoiler:the fact that both their sisters are working with the opposed faction]].
* AChildShallLeadThem: Played with. Richter is 19, but the vast majority of the Baam he commands are middle-aged men that appear to be in their 30s. Combined with his lack of experience in commanding militia, it's not surprising that most of his attempts at destroying Daimos end up with the loss of his men.
* CombatByChampion: Richter is fond of this trope, challenging Kazuya to a fight in episode 17. Even though he's an experienced fighter, it doesn't end in his favour.
* ConqueringAlienPrince: Though the Baam did at least first try to negotiate with the Earthlings on sharing a planet, he became this later on. He's even on the page image.
* CoolMask: In his ADayInTheLimelight episode, Richter personally manns Grangale into battle, and while preparing himself, he puts on a long, green mask that covers most of his face, sans the eye holes.
* ADayInTheLimelight: ''Proud Young Lion Richter'' is a look at the events of ''Daimos'' from his point of view, and shows how he interacts with the Baam [[AFatherToHisMen under his command]]. When Raiza questions his will to fight, he stresses that the people on Small Baam need him.
* DeadGuyOnDisplay: Attempted. He hosts public executions for Erika and Margarete. It's also implied Gurney would have faced a similar fate, had Erika and Margarete not freed him.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Richter lost his mother when he was young when she passed out due to smoke inhalation, while his father was poisoned. And it was the latter that made him into the man he is today.
* DemotedToDragon: Olban, finally fed up with Richter's lack of progress, sends Aizam in his stead. Aizam, however, tells Richter the truth and refuses to replace him. [[spoiler: He later dies fighting Daimos, satisfied that he got to die in battle instead of succumbing to his illness]].
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Richter has many uncanny parallels to modern white supremacists. While he is an alien, he has long, blonde hair and pale white skin. He also desires an ethnostate, endorses slavery and colonization, believes his race is "the best" and thinks his sister "betrayed" their race because she fell in love [[InterspeciesRomance with a human]].
* DragonInChief: [[spoiler: Demonstrated when Richter and Olban have their final showdown, where Olban can only rely on his underlings to defend him while Richter continues to fight with dedication, eventually killing him.]]
* TheDreaded: Even though he helms the base, Richter is feared amongst a good number of the Undersea Castle because of how far he's willing to go over his nationalist leanings.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler: Perhaps the vilest of Olban's crimes was breaking Richter by killing Leon, turning him into a vengeful warmonger and revealing the truth only after Richter had killed many innocents in his crusade to avenge him. Richter couldn't live with the shame of his actions and killed himself.]]

she was the wet nurse and educator of Erika but was too duty-bound to set an example for his own people. While he disowned her, he was actually grief-stricken that he could only cope by thinking that the Erika he knew was dead. He gets better by the final arc, but he's still very aloof.

** '''Prince Roderick''' in the Starbirds dub.
** '''Principe Rikiter''' in the Italian dub.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: Richter is disgusted when Raiza tries to turn Erika's "burial" into a battlefield and tells her she went against his orders. [[spoiler: He is also similarly disgusted when he learns that Olban has been toying with the Baam-seijin in cryostatis for his own personal benefit]].
* EvilIsAngular: Averted and played straight. Richter has curly hair and some of his locks are circle-shaped, but his staff and head piece are pointy.
* EvilIsBigger: He is one of the [[https://hero.fandom.com/wiki/File:Kyoshiro_height_chart.jpg tallest Baam]] in the series, second to only Balbas and Olban.
* EvilIsNotPacifist: Richter is always itching for a fight, whether it's against human, Baam, or blood. Because he considers Kazuya his ArchEnemy, he gets this the most. When he thinks his comrades aren't being obedient, he reprimands them with violence too.
* EvilPrince: Richter believes that all of his atrocities are justified because the humans are an inferior race, because the Baam were once wronged in their time of need, and because the safety of the Baam takes priority over everything else. In his conversation with Raiza before he commands Grangale into battle, he tells her that the Baam people in cryostatis still eagerly await their new home.

On Small Baam, he finds people willing to help him, bit it's only because they have a common cause (oppose Olban) rather than respect for him as a person.]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Even though he was angry at Erika for running away, he did feel relief for her when she returned and tried to make her feel better by torturing her "captors". However, when he saw her cry out for Kazuya, he deemed her a traitor. He then ordered her death, only for Melvi to intervene and take her to New Zealand. [[spoiler: By the GrandFinale, even though Richter retains his hatred for humanity (at first), him and Erika have made up and work together to stop Olban.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** Richter initially restrained himself from killing Erika when he found out that she had fallen in love with Kazuya. However, as time went on, his wrath ate him up and he could hold it on no longer.
** Every attempt Raiza makes to win his favour (such as sending an army to accompany Erika's burial) is met with disgust because he finds it too cruel/violent.
** Even as Gust admonished him for overworking his father, Richter held no anger towards him and asked that he be treated by the doctor as well.
** [[spoiler: On Small Baam, Richter co-operated with LaResistance against Olban to overthrow is tyranny]].
* {{Execution}}: Richter has this in store for anyone who "betrays"[[note]]Read: opposes the Baam-Earth war and wishes for peace[[/note]], and orders the execution of his own sister, the nanny that raised him, said sister's best friend, Gurney Halleck and several others for the crime of "betraying" the Baam Empire.
* {{Expy}}:
** To an extent, of [[Anime/VoltesV the previous series' Prince Heinel]], being the antagonistic blonde [[spoiler: big brother]] of one of the main protagonists and an aloof rival with some noble sides. However, while Heinel was motivated by honour, Richter is motivated by {{Revenge}}.
** Also of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tybalt Tybalt]] from the original ''Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet'' story. Tybalt was Juliet's violent, short-tempered, vengeful cousin who strongly opposed her courtship of Romeo, and took every opportunity he could to undermine it.
* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: Quite literally. Richter may look like an angel, but his actions are far from angelic. He started a genocide of humans and selfishly took the lives of Baam with theirs.
* [[FallenPrincess Fallen Prince]]: Richter initially enjoyed the distinction of being recognized as the Baam Prince until [[spoiler: he was caught trying to assassinate Olban (and killed his body double) in public. Olban used his royal powers to sentence Richter to death. It didn't go through.]]
* FakingTheDead: [[spoiler: Just as it seems like Olban's got the last laugh over him, it's revealed the executioner who was meant to kill Richter was a part of the growing anti-Olban faction of Small Baam, and kept him hidden from the public until the time was right]].
* FriendlessBackground: Played with. Richter mentions growing up with Melvi, and some promotional imagery [[https://hero.fandom.com/wiki/File:Daimos_artbook.jpg implies]] that Raiza was a childhood friend of his. However, he mentions that Erika and Aizam are the only ones who he's close to, until their differences in philosophy made him grow apart from the former.
* ForcedToWatch: Richter ensures that Erika and Margarete's executions are public, as many Baam onlookers cheer. Before it can happen, a group of rebels cause a dam to leak, creating a diversion that buys them enough time to rescue Erika and take her to Earth. Margarete, unfortunately, has her wings clipped and is MadeASlave, until she is saved by a separate group of rebels under Barandock's orders.
* GlassOfChianti: Richter is seen holding one when he's observing his forces attack UsefulNotes/NewZealand, where the Baam refugees are.
* GoodPrincessEvilQueen: While he has some politically incorrect views, Richter ultimately isn't evil. However, it was the lengths he went to that truly cemented his status as a villain. [[spoiler: Olban, on the other hand, masterminded the death of his father, brainwashed and killed several Baam because he desired nothing but mindless slaves and tried to force Erika to kill Kazuya]].
* {{Guyliner}}: Richter's lashes are thick and lucious.
* HairTriggerTemper: So many examples.
** He slaps Margarete because she told him she was worried for his sister and implored him to find her. He abuses her again when Erika escapes {{Execution}} and he blames her for having a hand in it, even though she was innocent.
** He is angered when Erika serves in the army even though Olban ordered her to. However, that was likely a case of AngerBornOfWorry.
** He hits Raiza because she asked him to consider her for an important position.
* TheHeavy: He was assigned to invade the Earth by Olban. It helps that he already despised the Earthlings, so he's more than happy to leave mountains of their charred corpses around.
* HisOwnWorstEnemy: At many points in the story, it's suggested that Richter abandon the war and make peace with the Earthlings, but he refuses due to his own pride and his bias that HumansAreBastards. [[spoiler: Had he given up on the war earlier, he wouldn't have been DrivenToSuicide out of guilt in the finale.]]
* HotBlooded: He has an intense temper and would rather use violence than communicate things over. In the anime's OP, he debuts by brandishing his sword, flying and scowling at Kazuya.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: [[spoiler: Goes from being the Baam Prince and Admiral to being at the mercy of the humans after he's straneded on Earth, and then sent to the gallows for his desire to slaughter Olban]].
* HumansAreBastards: Richter thinks that they're all conniving bastards and struck his father down when he extended an olive branch.
* HumiliationConga: [[spoiler: After Georiya overtakes the base of operations, he has his spies reveal themselves, who force Richter, Raiza and Balbas on their knees as he re-tells the truth about how he killed Leon. Then, he attempts to kill them by strapping them to a Mecha Warrior that fights Daimos. Then, Richter is shot at by Miwa's forces while injured. The last incident makes Richter toss his crown at them, allowing him and Raiza to escape.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** He calls Raiza "useless" for not being able to defeat Daimos, as if he's any better. When Olban sends Aizam (someone more competent) to replace him, he's not having it.
** [[spoiler: Richter is furious when he finds out that Olban has been messing with the Baam in cryostatis and executing them, even though he ordered the executions of Gurney, Cindy, Erika, Margarete and many other Baam under the justification of them being "traitors"]].
* [[IHaveNoSon I Have No Sister]]: When he finds out Erika has fallen for a human, he states that he has no sister. He even sentences her to execution over it.
* InformedAbility: Richter's skill in battle. While his flashback with Aizam shows that he's supposedly a skilled warrior, he gets beaten by Kazuya, an earthling, in a matter of seconds. Not only does Kazuya break his sword and shield, Richter doesn't manage to land a hit on him. Kazuya punts Richter on the shoulder, causing him to stagger, and would have defeated him had Melvi not intervened by kidnapping Erika. Even as an Admiral, Richter lets his emotions get in the way, which unsurprisingly leads to him not getting a single victory over the Earthlings.
* ItsPersonal: His hatred for the humans is from the fact that they killed his father [[spoiler: (they didn't)]] and denied the Baam-seijin a home when they were displaced.
* {{Jerkass}}: Is cold-hearted, bigoted, haughty and prone to flying in fits of rage when things don't go his way. He frequently verbally abuses his subordinates because of their imperfections, and is physically violent when he loses his temper. The only one who he averted this behaviour towards was Aizam, but [[spoiler:he was later horrifically killed in battle]].
* JerkassHasAPoint: Enforced. [[spoiler: After they're deserted from the Undersea Castle, Raiza calls for aid from Daimos. Miwa intercepts this call and leads his forces to shoot at them. Raiza, who previously held hope that the humans could have mercy on them, concedes to Richter's point that HumansAreBastards.]]
* KickTheDog: While Erika's at the Undersea Castle, he repeatedly shames and scolds her for her actions towards the Baam, and later plans for her {{Execution}}. [[spoiler: Near the GrandFinale, he even admits that he was planning to kill Erika because he believed her to be loyal to Olban, but was pleasantly surprised when she was GoodAllAlong and was trying to avenge their father]].
* KillAllHumans: Richter wants to end the human race because he believes that the Earthlings plotted his father's demise. [[spoiler: The ending of the series has the inverse happen - after it's found out that they had nothing to do with it, Richter kills himself to atone for all the blood on his hands.]]
* TheKingslayer: [[spoiler: After making it to Small Baam and infiltrating the wedding ceremony, he kills Olban with his own hands]].
* LargeAndInCharge: He towers over everyone else at the Undersea Castle not named "Balbas" and is the Admiral of the Baam, being chosen to do so by Olban.
* LeaveNoSurvivors: Richter believes that for the Baam race to prosper, every human must be eliminated. With his own kind he's more lenient - though he wanted to execute Erika and Margarete for being "traitors", [[spoiler: when his plan was thwarted, he allowed Margarete to live as a slave]].
* LivingEmotionalCrutch:
** Erika. Her departure had a great effect on him. He was also hurt when she refused to talk to him after being returned to the Undersea Castle, and asked if she didn't trust him anymore.
-->'''Richter:''' ''"Why can't you tell me, your own brother, about it?"''
** After he diverged paths with her, it became Aizam. [[spoiler: That didn't end well]].
* LetsFightLikeGentlemen: During a proposed duel with Kazuya, Richter wields a spear and shield and offers Kazuya a pair too, since it'll make the fight fairer. Kazuya refuses and instead proceeds to beat him with just karate, breaking the spear and shield for good measure.
* LiarRevealed: [[spoiler: After finding out Erika's true intentions, Richter reveals himself as the "priest" at the wedding and tries to cut down the groom-to-be, Olban]].
* LightIsNotGood: He is a handsome, blonde man with angelic wings. While ultimately not an evil person, the death of Leon left him a broken and revenge-obsessed man, so much that he isolated everyone in his life in his conquest to avenge him.
* LineageComesFromTheFather: He inherited his Royal title from Leon.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Richter has long, flowing, curly blonde hair that goes past his knees and almost touches the floor. It covers his shoulders and resemble's a lion's mane. He also has thick eyelashes and a long, red headpiece on his head.
* ManlyTears: Richter isn't afraid to cry when situation calls, such as the death of his best friend Aizam who fought because he'd rather die in combat than in bed, fighting for Richter and the Baam cause to the bitter end.
* MeaningfulName: Dub-specific, but they stick the landing each time.
** '''Richter''' is German [[https://surnames.behindthename.com/name/richter for]] "Judge", and in the anime, Richter judges who is allowed to live and die in the Undersea castle, massacaring anyone who refuses to support his cause or listen to him.
** In the Starbirds dub, his name is changed to '''Roderick''', which [[https://www.behindthename.com/name/roderick means]] "famous ruler" in Old German. Roderick is the Prince of the Baam, and his name is famous amongst Earthlings and Baamites alike for the terror he unleashes.
** In the Philippine-English dub, his name is changed to '''Ulrich''', which is derived from the element ''uodil'' ("heritage") and ''rih'' ("ruler, king"). Richter/Ulrich indeed inherited the title of future ruler of Baam from his father, Leon.
* MessianicArchetype: With his long blonde hair and wings, Richter can pass off as this. It helps that he's already under the (misguided) belief that he's doing right by his people. [[spoiler: However, when he realizes all he's done is lead them into further doom, he feels like he doesn't deserve to live anymore]].
* MisplacedRetribution: [[spoiler: His father's death had nothing to do with the humans, yet an entire race was scapegoated for his demise thanks to Olban's aspirations to become a new ruler. Even Leon begged Richter not to unleash his wrath on them, only for the boy to ignore it and open fire on them instead]].
* MoralityPet:
** For a short while, Erika. Though he disagrees with her philosophy and was enraged when she departed from the Undersea Castle, he was happy when she returned and tried to make her feel better. Even after she betrays him for Earth, he feels conflicted about punishing her, before deciding that capital punishment is what she deserves.
-->'''Richter, after having a flashback of him and Erika's childhood:''' ''"Erika....why did you betray me?"''
** However, after Erika escapes execution, he's hell-bent on finishing her, subverting this trope.
** Also Aizam. He's Richter's childhood best friend, and they reunite when Olban sends Aizam to replace him. However, Aizam assures Richter he doesn't want to take his place, and co-operates with him in upgrading the Mecha Warriors. Unfortunately, this is short lived as [[spoiler: Aizam dies while piloting his masterpiece, the Gimmeria, leading Richter to go on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge.]]
* MoralMyopia: Richter is fine with eliminating humans and treating them like slaves, but when the same thing happens to Baam, he becomes furious and declares the humans to be hateful.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler: In his last words, he mourns the losses he's caused and says that he has to punish himself to atone]].
-->[[spoiler: '''Richter:''' ''"Farewell Erika...Farewell Kazuya Ryuzaki...I killed too many Earthlings to beg forgiveness from the Earthlings who helped Baam...I will judge myself with my own hands! …Farewell…"'']]
* MySisterIsOffLimits: A villainous case as he does not approve of Erika being romantically involved with Kazuya, a human. He's also furious when Melvi announces he is to marry Erika, though that was because he wanted to subject Erika to capital punishment for betraying the Baam Empire (and now he can't because Melvi has more power than him as Olban;s nephew).
* NearVillainVictory: His very own ADayInTheLimelight episode has him destroy Daimos' major circuits, making the robot unable to perform it's Fire Blizzard attack. While he has Daimos on the ground, Grangale shoots two projectles...that miss, and then shoots two other projectiles that Daimos grabs and attacks it with. Richter is left humiliated by the loss.
* NobleDemon: He's more or less very gung-ho when it comes to invading the Earth, but he's still a honorable, caring prince to his people and certainly prefers fair combat like true warriors.

* {{Revenge}}: Richter wasn't born evil, and even though he held some prejudices towards the human race (badmouthing them before departing to the meeting), he was willing to co-exist alongside them for the sake of the Baam people. When his father was suddenly assassinated, Richter blamed the humans for his death, [[spoiler: when it was actually Georiya who did the deed.]]
* RevengeBeforeReason: The sight of his father being killed unfairly clouded Richter's reasoning, believing that all humans are backstabbing bastards. And his encounter with mankind being mostly Balm-hating warmongers like Miwa certainly didn't help his opinion.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: After the death of [[spoiler: Aizam]], Richter decides that the humans must pay and orders many more invasions and attacks on their planet.
* RoyalBlood: Richter's is from [[TheGoodKing King Leon]] and his wife Queen Roji. However, personality wise, Richter and Leon couldn't be more different from each other if they tried, [[spoiler: until Richter's atonement]].
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Richter actively participates in the Baam military and oversees the operations of the Undersea Castle. Even before the Baam invasion, he was trained in fighting and warfare.
* SiblingYinYang: Richter is a HotBlooded [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Ares]]-caliber WarriorPrince who believes that it's better to fight to the death and die trying rather than negotiate with a race such as humans that can't be trusted. Erika is someone who rejects the use of violence, even when wronged, and believes that co-operation will bring stability.

* TheProudElite: Richter puts his royal duties above everything else and believes that he has to behave in a way that the Baam can follow. He doesn't understand why Erika doesn't do the same.
* TsurimeEyes: Richter has big, brown ones that reflect his stand-offish personality. They're very prominent when he's mad. Erika has the [[TaremeEyes opposite]].
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler: After Raiza dies, Richter remarks that he will join her soon. Considering he's heavily religious, he likely means that the two will reunite in the afterlife]].
* TokenReligiousTeammate: In an early episode, Richter is seen praying. The religion he subscribes to has a heavy resemblance to UsefulNotes/{{Christianity}}. In episode 36, while he's stranded on Earth, he prays once again to the Baam religion.
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: Under Leon, Baam was peaceful and unified. Under Richter, it's more divided and chaotic. Not helping matters is that Richter's desire for bloodshed is heavily infectious amongst his fellow Baam.
* UpperclassEquestrian: Richter is an AlienPrince and he knows how to ride a horse, as seen by his flashback duelling Aizam.

Keep in mind, this is after Raiza rescued him from Georiya's clutches, drove him to an isolated island in a stolen spaceship (while being injuried herself) and single-handledly bandaged all his bleeding wounds. Even before this incident, Richter was cruel to Raiza and called her "useless" because of her inability to defeat Daimos. * PitifulWorms: [[spoiler: When Raiza suggests that they turn to the humans for help after it's found out that Olban is a traitor, he vehemently refuses and compares the human race to worms.]]
-->[[spoiler: '''Richter:''' You idiot! Raiza, what a naive idea! You've really lost the plot, Raiza! Do you think they'll abandon their hatred for us!? Even if we temporarily co-operated with them, as soon as we guide them back to their home, there is no doubt that they will eradicate our homeland together with Olban! Don't say such things! I will never let the Earthling worms kill the people of Baam!]]
* PrinceCharmless: Raiza likes him and keeps trying to get into his good books, but he regards her with annoyance and at many points, hits her. [[spoiler: The case in point is when Richter was thrown underwater thanks to Georiya's Mecha Warrior, and Raiza rescues him. He then proceeds to treat her [[UngratefulBastard terribly for it]]]].
* PrincessInRags: [[spoiler: By the Wedding arc, he is this, being forced to hide his true identity due to being wanted for Olban's [[BodyDouble "assassination"]]. Yet, he retains enough social popularity to be supported by the dissenter's of Olban's cabinet]].
* ProperlyParanoid: While Richter is a plain bigot, humans such as Miwa (that massacre innocent Baam and ''don't even feel sorry for it'') give his arguments against them some form of leeway.
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: The epitome of the trope for the Baam-seijin. Richter knows that the Baam-seijin, him included, were also born for combat and holds that trait with pride, alongside other ideals such as "Better die than to be taken prisoner".
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler: After Richter puts his body through hell to stop Olban's device from crashing Small Baam, he apologizes to Kazuya for opposing him. He then enters a shuttle, and announces that he cannot live with his sins and has to die to atone. Even though Kazuya tries to save him and Erika, though tears, pleads with him to stop and says that the war is over, Richter refuses to listen. His FamousLastWords are heartbreaking]].
-->[[spoiler: '''Richter:''' ''"Farewell Erika...Farewell Kazuya Ryuzaki...I killed too many Earthlings, and I can only beg for their forgiveness, even as they helped Baam...I will judge myself with my own hands! …Farewell…"'']]
* RedOniBlueOni: Richter is snarky and hot-tempered; Erika is serene and clear-minded.
* SignatureHeadgear: For Richter, it's his iconic red-cloth headpiece. [[https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/File:Prince_Heinel_7r.jpg Spoofed]] in one Magazine/{{OUT}} issue where he's seen without it.
* SingleSpeciesNations: Richter's end goal is to annihilate the humans, leaving Earth free for the Baam to take. He's also willing to kill Baam that aid them or oppose the war.
* SourOutsideSadInside: He may be a {{Jerkass}} on the outside, but on the inside all he can think about is his father's death and Erika's abandonment. He also feels like a failure because of the numerous Baam soldiers he's lost at the hands of Daimos.
* StaffOfAuthority: See [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raiza_from_daimos_2.png here]].
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He has a heavy resemblance to his mother Roji, down to the minute details. He also has Leon's eyes and muscles.
* WarriorPrince: He's the Prince of his people and he'll not go down without a fight. Since he's from a FantasyCounterpartCulture of Rome, he has sparred in colosseums before and he also knows how to use a sword.
* WouldHarmASenior: ''In the first episode no less'', Richter delivers a BitchSlap to Margarete because she asked him to show concern for his sister. In a later episode, he has her tortured and enslaved.
* WouldHitAGirl:
** He smacks Erika once he finds out she's fallen for a human man. Margarete covers Erika with her body, begging Richter to show her mercy, but he punches and kicks her too. He comes near to killing her while repeatedly muttering [[IHaveNoSon "I have no sister..."]], but seeing the reflection of his frenzied expression in his sword makes him reconsider.
** Richter repeatedly delivers slaps and blows to Raiza, be it from his hand or his staff. He's not averse to maiming his male subordinates the same way, but the poor girl faces the brunt of it.
* UngratefulBastard: He is enraged when Raiza suggests seeking aid from the Earthlings (despite this being after he found out that the Earthlings didn't kill his father) and reacts by hitting her in the face and berating her. This never stopped her from trying to gain his approval because she was secretly in love with him.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: In episode 16, we get a flashback of Richter as a young boy where he rescued Erika from a burning building, [[https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/File:Kidshugging.png hugging her afterwards]]. Later, him, Erika and their father flew to safety. Unfortunately, the fire claimed their mother, Roji.
* VillainRespect: [[spoiler: While "villain" is too strong a word as he's reformed by then, he praises Kazuya for proving that he was wrong about humans and they work together to save the Baam-seijin.]]
-->[[spoiler: '''Richter:''' ''"Kazuya Ryuzaki! You're a hero who stands out from the crowd! I won't let
your courageous deeds go to waste! Eternal glory to your future and the billion people of Planet Baam.position."'']]
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Subverted. While he's well-respected as the AlienPrince of Baam, [[spoiler: many are put off YouAreWorthHell: After reminding her to have courage, Margerete tells Erika she will stay by his violent tendencies and choose to defect to Erika's her side instead. The finale reveals that many Baam oppose Olban and prefer Richter to him. Even though he's scheduled for {{Execution}}, they help him escape and keep him safe until he can successfully infiltrate Olban's wedding ceremony, hoping to kill him]].
* YouAreWhatYouHate: [[spoiler: Hates
no matter what, as do the humans for being petty murderers; by the end rest of the series he's realized that's what he's become]].
* YouKilledMyFather: [[spoiler: What kicks off the plot. When Algol, the sun of Planet Baam, crashes into the nebulae, the resulting antimatter causes it
Utopia. It brings her to overheat, thus rendering Planet Baam into an uninhabitable wasteland. Desperate for help, King Leon sought out the Earth for help, and the Earthern delegates agreed to a meeting to discuss the future of the Baam-seijin. However, it was during this meeting that King Leon suddenly collapsed, his cup being filled with poison. Richter was so enraged that he didn't bother to verify the details of the situation - had he not acted on his anger, he would have been able to trace the poison to Georiya's ring, instead of misattributing it to the human race.]]tears.

* AllThereInTheManual:
** The Roman Robo Anime Climax Selection states that she was the wet nurse and educator of Erika and Richter.
* CoolOldLady: Margarete is wise due to her age, and accurately guesses that Erika is in love with Kazuya. She also encourages her to pursue him in spite of her guilt regarding his father.
-->'''Margarete:''' ''"If he in turn loves you just as much, he will forgive you of everything. Is that not the way of true lovers?"''
* DubNameChange:
** Phillipine-English: '''Rowena'''.
** Starbirds dub: '''Margareta'''.
** Italian dub: '''Margareth'''.
* GoodParents: To Erika. She encourages her to follow her heart and do what makes her happy.

* IdiotBall: [[spoiler: In the final arc of the anime, it doesn't occur to Margarete that Erika's reasons for wanting to marry Olban don't come from a place of love. This is despite the fact that Margarete has helped Erika pull off one ZanyScheme after the other, and you'd think by now she's figure out Erika is plotting to kill him.]]
* NamedInTheAdaptation: Margarete is based off [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nurse_(Romeo_and_Juliet) the Nurse]] from the original ''Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet'' story. She is the personal servant, guardian (and former wet nurse) of Juliet Capulet, but her real name is never mentioned.[[note]]Some interpretations of the story believe it to be Angelica, based on one of Lord Capulet's lines from Act 4 Scene 4, ''"good Angelica"'', but others interpret this as being aimed towards Lady Capulet.[[/note]]
* ParentalSubstitute: Erika and Richter's mother is dead, and it's mentioned that Margarete raised them both from infancy. Even though Richter is cold and abusive to her, she still cares about him and desires his safety, [[spoiler: but helps Erika escape to Earth against his wishes. As a result, he orders her execution. * PinkIsFeminine: Margarete's dress is pink. Her sash is also pink, but is a darker shade.
* PromotionToParent: Since Erika and Richter are orphans, she is this trope. Unfortunately, Richter rejects her as a mother figure.
** Near the GrandFinale, before Erika [[spoiler: is set to marry Olban]], she thanks Margarete for raising her as if she was one of her own, and then breaks down crying [[spoiler: after telling her that she must never see her again. Poor Margarete is left speechless at Erika's behaviour, until she catches a glimpse of the dagger hidden in the wedding dress. She puts two and two together and realizes that Erika has other plans for Olban.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: For Erika and Kazuya. Though she was initially against their romance, she later realized he was the one for her, at one point even delivering flowers Erika worked on to him as a gift. [[spoiler: She is absoltely disgusted when Erika insists on marrying Olban, repeatedly bringing up her love for Kazuya, as well as the fact that Olban is a tyrannical king who killed her father. It wasn't until she saw the dagger that she realized that Erika's affections for the king were a ruse; she was planning to assassinate him.]]

*AChildShallLeadThem: Played with. Richter is 19, but the vast majority of the Baam he commands are middle-aged men that appear to be in their 30s. Combined with his lack of experience in commanding militia, it's not surprising that most of his attempts at destroying Daimos end up with the loss of his men.
