They also endured the loss of their families and most of their friends the War with the Angels caused. By the time they won the War, all of the Children are broken and heavily traumatized.

* PersonOfMassDestruction: Shinji, Asuka and Rei (and to a lesser extent, Touji, Anna, and Hikari) pilot HumongousMecha and wield the powers of [[EldritchAbomination dead Angels]]. “Mass Destruction” doesn’t even come close to describe the kind of devastation that the Children can make.

All of the Children are 14-year-olds capable of piloting [=EVA=]s and killing Angels when no one else could but that's because [[spoiler:they were all born during Second Impact, which gave them certain mutations that left them with enough psychic power to allow them to synchronize with their EVA successfully without going mad, mutating, or dying instantly]]. Misato, the Children's TeamMom and ParentalSubstitute, spends much of the story lamenting how they learned how to fight and kill instead of worrying over mundane stuff like school and dating.

** Shinji's mother Yui died when he was very young [[spoiler:due to Yui failing to synchronize with EVA Unit 01]] and barely remembers her face. [[spoiler:Then Gendo is killed in chapter 22 by Anna while she was possessed by Nyarlthotep, and while he and Gendo weren't very close, he is traumatized by his father's death. Then in the final chapter he is forced to kill both Gendo and Yui for good after they use the Children to ascend to godhood and create a FalseUtopia. All in all, not a good day for Shinji]].

* TrueCompanions: As much as they argue and fight at times, all of the Children are great friends who stick together throughout the entire War, even coming to see each other as family. [[spoiler:They are deeply heartbroken when Rei sacrifices herself to seal the Angels away forever, and doubly so when Shinji and Asuka decide to leave human civilization forever]].

* VictorGainsLosersPowers: A pretty dark example. Whenever the Children defeat an Angel, they steal its power... except their enemies are based on (and taken from) the ''Franchise/CthulhuMythos''. That being said, their powers allowed them easily obliterate a planet... [[spoiler:and corrupted everything around them, making people frightened. Finally Shinji and Asuka were so fed up with people freaking out whenever they passed by they left human civilization forever because they did not fit in anymore]].

* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards his younger sister Miki, who was put in a coma due to injuries from the fallout of Shinji and Rei's battle with Matarael. * GreenAndMean: Amaliel, Asuka's first adversary she fought and killed, was a lime-green, gelatinous SeaMonster packed with claws, pincers and tentacles.
* NightmareRetardant: It's an EldritchAbomination, but it's softened by the fact that it looks like a giant koosh ball with pincers, crab legs, and eye stalks.
