* BadassBaritone: A fearsome leonine warrior with the booming voice of Dan Green.

* NoPronunciationGuide: Word of the creators, and the spelling of his name, implies that Aa'une's name is pronounced "ay-OON". The show, on the other hand, goes for the pronunciation "AWE-knee".

* EndearinglyDorky: If anything, his ditziness and eccentricities only add to his charm, simply because he's so enthusiastic. Tellingly, he seems to be quite popular in Chaotic and makes friends easily.

* {{Greed}}: A major reason behind everything he does. Despite Klay being already having a large deck, he consistently scams new players for their deck merely to add them to his collection.

* TheSociopath: He has an inflated sense of self worth, sees other people merely as tools to be used for his own gain, any niceness he puts on is a mere façade and he backstabs people when he no longer needs them. He will happily cite Chaotic rules, and will happily break them if needed, and will happily try to arrange for rivals to die. And the episode ''Worls Apart'' displays that not even his only friend, Krystella, is safe from his manipulations, as she ends up on the receiving end of one of his schemes and gets humiliated in the process, with him also demanding she fork over the reward she thought she won fair and square once she receives it. Klay more than fits this trope to a T.
* VillainDecay: Is introduced as a skilled opponent, and Kaz only barely wins against him in Klay's first on screen match despite Klay not pulling any dirty tricks. But in each of Klay's subsequent appearances, he can't win a single match even with his underhanded tricks. We see him losing against both Tom and Kaz (including in a 2-on-2 battle with against Klay and Krystella), Peyton, a newbie on her first match, a little kid, being one of the many victims of Drew's Hoton; and though he won seven matches offscreen and got to battle Codemaster Imthor, the Codemaster proceeded to[[CurbStompBattle demolish Klay]], who is unable to beat even a single one of the Codemaster's creatures, which even Krystella rubs in his face.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: In the episode where we meet Krystella's twin sister, Jycella, Klay sets up a match between them, in which the loser has to go to Perim to obtain the winner's choice of scans. After Krystella's victory, Klay reveals to her that she only won because he give Jycella a scan of a Battlegear he had sabotaged before scanning it, and that he fully expects Krystella to give him the scans she ordered Jycella to get for her. Krystella's reaction is to join her sister in the scan quest, because much as she hates her, Krystella wants to beat her with her own skills, and as an added bonus, she tells Jycella they'll get good scans for themselves and then sabotage the ones she'll give to Klay as payback.

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: The reason he rules the Underworld, and not Von Bloot. The FlavorText on Lyssta's card implies that he has ''never'' lost a battle in the Underworld's GladiatorGames.

* ObfuscatingStupidity: He may be goofy and silly, but Peyton's still a very skilled player who always seems to know more than he lets on, not just in battle, but outside of it too (such as how he's theone to figure out that the monster menacing Prexxor Chasm is actually a living disease and thus the solution is that the location itself must be "cured" through the efforts of a Caretaker). How much of it is an intentional front and how much is [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Peyton being Peyton]] is ambiguous, though.

* AnIcePerson: Her attitude, surprise surprise.

* PeekABangs: Krystella's hair (and by extencion her twin sister Jycella's too) always covers one of her eyes.

* TallDarkAndSnarky: She’s tall, pale and condescending to everyone she interacts with.

* ShouldersOfDoom: Appears to be wearing a wide mantlet with large shoulders, but it's not certain whether it's a garment or part of his body. Nonetheless, it gives him an EvilSorcerer-esque look when combined with the growths behind his head that resemble a HighCollarOfDoom.

* {{Nerd}}: He's a Chaotic wiz, but seems to be just a tad on the awkward side everywhere else.

Chaor's right-hand MadScientist, a neurotic genius responsible for some of the most high-tech Battlegear in Permin.

* OmnidiscplinaryScientist: His main scientific fields are engineering and robotics, as evidenced by his creation of the [[ChickenWalker Viledriver]] and [[HumongousMecha Gigantroper]], but his use of test tubes in combat implies some dabbling in chemistry.

* AntiHero: Sort of a cross between Type II and Type III. Chaor does have a nasty temper and a side of jerk to him, and he does dream about conquering the Underworld, but he does show a caring side to him underneath it all, is very reasonable if needed, and clearly cares for his tribe.
* AuthorityEqualsAssKicking: The reason he rules the Underworld, and not Von Bloot.

* TinyGuyHugeGirl: She's the largest of all the Danians.

* CharacterDevelopment: Maxxor was very short-temperd when he first met Tom, but he grows to trust him, and by extension all chaotic players over time.
* FamousAncestor: Averted. Tom is extremely disappointed to find out that Vlar, Maxxor's ancient ancestor was a commonly known and reviled thief

* BigBadWannabe: He only ever ''ruled'' the Underworld while [[spoiler: under the MindControl of the M'arrillians]].

* TheSociopath: He is utterly lacking in empathy and won't hesitate to resort to any method to win, a considerable manipulator who serves Chaor loyally, but still plans to overthrow him, he treats his own minions like dirt, his desire is to be the leader and the one in charge, all for his own glory, he lacks any emotional affection to anyone, but himself, and he has an enourmous sense of pride. This fits Van Bloot to a T.

* UngratefulBitch: In the episode "Trading Cards" she puts the guys through a long and complex series of trades, scan quests, and battles so they can all obtain the necessary scans required to make various trades so she can get a scan of the Song of Mandiblor mugic. At the end of the episode, when the guys have acquired everything they need to make the trades, Sarah shows up and says [[ShaggyDogStory she doesn't need them anymore]] since Wamma caught the thief that stole the mugic and she ported to Perim and scanned it there, without even thanking the guys for their efforts. The three are left bitter at being used by her and there efforts being rendered AllForNothing and all agree they hope Sarah loses her next match.

* WeakButSkilled: H'earring is not the most powerful of the creatures, but he's clever and has a wide variety of distracting abilities. While he doesn't use it often, it should be noted that all three times Kaz has been forced to rely on his H'earring scan in a match, H'earring has won the match, and against more traditionally stronger creatures to boot.

* ObviouslyEvil: Sickly green skin, [[RedEyesTakeWarning glowing red eyes]], [[LeanAndMean skeletal looks]], has a pair of [[GoodWingsEvilWings sinister-looking black wings]], ''everything'' about Van Bloot's appearance just screams "evil".
