* GiantSpaceFleeFromNowhere: Okay he was foreshadowed at least twice but those were so subtle that even the most attentive players were caught by suprise

Brauner's twin vampire daughters [[spoiler: {not really)]] who appear occasionally to antagonize the duo.

(It is worth noting at this point that in the whole of the {{Castlevania}} series, Brauner is the only character to call out Dracula for dying so ridiculously often and never accomplishing anything.)

* ReincarnationRomance: It's heavily implied that Lisa is the reincarnation of Elisabetha. The implications even extend to Soma Cruz and Mina Hakuba]], who's suggested to be the next incarnation of these two women (similar to how Soma is Mathias/Dracula), much like Mina Harker ([[ShoutOutThemeNaming note the similar-sounding surnames]]) from ''[=~Bram Stoker's Dracula~=]''.

* SympathyForTheDevil: If you take into account his backstory as Mathias before his StartOfDarkness and his blissful time with Lisa and Adrian ''before'' the former's unjust murder, the Dark Lord starts to look like a [[TheWoobie Woobie]]. A JerkassWoobie most likely, but a Woobie no less.

Good ol' {{Dracula}}, the King of Vampires you all know. [[strike:[[{{Retcon}} He is Vlad the Impaler reincarnated]].]] In a twist, he doesn't start out as Vlad the Impaler, but a [[TheStrategist genius war strategist]] named Mathias Cronqvist. After his wife Elisabetha died, Mathias used his friend Leon Belmont in a XanatosGambit to steal the soul of Walter with the Crimson Stone, gaining the allegiance of Death. He reveals that he has forsaken {{God}}, who took away his wife, and will continue to curse Him for eternity. He retreats and changes his name to Vlad Tepes, while Leon [[BadassBoast swears to]] [[{{Narm}} kill an entire time of day.]]

* MemeticBadass: An infamous ''NintendoPower'' cover, created to promote ''Simon's Quest'', depicts him holding Dracula's severed head. Coupled with the fact that he's the first Belmont and the only one to take on Dracula by himself, twice...
** Christopher on a PapaWolf rage doesn't count as a second time, I take it.
*** Said cover didn't last long as parents complained [[NightmareFuel it gave their kids nightmares]]. Dracula couldn't manage it, but a Belmont? A hero? He's one fearsome son of a bitch.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Has a fairly small, but very devoted fanbase. Those who played ''Legacy of Darkness'' liked his character and the non-linear flow of the game. Needless to say, they were pleasantly surprised to see him resurface in ''Judgment'' (it didn't help that his [[ArtShift redesign]] was one of the few ''not'' to get flak from the fanbase and his characterization was pretty in line with what had been previously established in his canon).

* GoodScarsEvilScars: It's heavily implied that in the final battle with Dracula in ''III'', Trevor got a parting gift from Dracula in the form of a scar across his left eye and chest. It's visible in ''Curse'', although ''Judgment'' [[TheyJustDidntCare changed it around]], instead claiming that Trevor ''[[EyeScream lost]]'' his eye, hence the eyepatch.

* DemotedToExtra: Trevor reappears in ''Curse of Darkness'', Sypha gets to have a lot of descendants, Alucard goes on to become some sort of EnsembleDarkhorse, Grant was given nothing at all until ''Judgment''--and even in that, he's rewritten from a [[{{Keet}} genki go-getter]] (the Japanese ''CVIII'' script sees him declaring himself and Trevor {{Nakama}} immediately) into a [[CharacterDerailment self-centred emo navel-gazer.]] [[http://frobman.deviantart.com/art/It-s-Judgment-Time-110479732 And he's a mummy]].
