to:

* HugeGuyTinyGirl: With both her Renji is a very tall character by a lot of the cast's standards, towering over his captain. He is the childhood friend and (and eventual husband Renji ''and'' her best friend Ichigo.husband) of Rukia, who is by far the smallest "adult" character in the show, standing at around 4'9" tall.

* {{Protectorate}}: As a result of initially blaming himself for his mother's death, Ichigo is driven by an intense desire to protect friends and family, regardless of the cost to himself. His need to protect his family from a Hollow attack is what first encourages Rukia to illegally share her Soul Reaper power with him and the idea of older siblings turning on younger siblings instead of protecting them makes him particularly angry, as both Orihime and Rukia's older brothers learn. He invades both Soul Society and Hueco Mundo to rescue Rukia and Orihime respectively when they're captured by enemy forces, and he will make sure friends can protect people on his behalf when he can't do it, such as asking Renji to protect Rukia, Uryuu to protect Orihime and Orihime to protect Nel. Tsukishima brainwashing all friends and family is one of the few times Ichigo ever accepts the need for killing instead of simply defeating the villain.

* {{Protectorate}}: Having lost his mother at a young age and blamed himself for it, Ichigo is driven by an intense desire to protect his loved ones, no matter what happens to himself, and either targeting his friends/family or seeing someone not protect the persons he or she should shield are among the easiest way of driving him to murderous rage. i.e.:
** The deal with Ichigo becoming the Substitute Shinigami comes from a Hollow attacking his family, wounding his [[spoiler: then-depowered]] father, capturing one of his sisters (Yuzu in the manga, Karin in the anime) and injuring Rukia when she tried to fight it off. To protect them, Ichigo asks Rukia for the power he needs to do so, and then he becomes a Shinigami.
** When Acidwire tries to kill Orihime and Tatsuki he's very angry, but he gets ''even angrier'' after learning that Acidwire is the Hollowfied spirit of Orihime's older brother and furiously lectures him on how older brothers shouldn't hurt their little siblings.
** As soon as he and Renji settle their fight and Renji begs him to protect Rukia, he accepts without hesitation. When Rukia is rescued and he gets ready to duel Byakuya, Ichigo entrusts her to Renji and tells her it's ''his'' mission to protect her with his life.
** One of the biggest reasons he's upset at Byakuya is because, as Rukia's older brother, Ichigo firmly believes he should protect her (plus he doesn't know how Byakuya ''wants'' to do that but it a "prisoner" of the PillarsOfMoralCharacter)
** After Orihime is wounded by Yammy, he's very cut-up until Rukia forces him to face her and then he gives her an explicit DeclarationOfProtection;
** Before the definitive fight with Ulquiorra, he makes sure to ask Ishida to protect Orihime in case she cannot use her powers [[spoiler: and when he's killed, hearing Orihime scream and cry out to him is enough to activate his Hollow and bring himself BackFromTheDead.]]
** When Tsukishima brainwashes his friends and family and Ichigo cannot undo it, he's so disturbed that he ''seriously'' considers killing him.
** etc.
