*** They both suffered from extremely harsh childhoods, as a result W grows up to be a highly independent woman with a great sense of self-agency, determined to be nobody’s tool despite her job as a mercenary. Meanwhile, Mephisto became a child who's so used to having Faust look after him, by Faust's own words [[spoiler:he's someone who hasn't started thinking for himself, resulting in a frail sense of self despite appearing to be a teen and remains highly reliant on those he's close with]].

* SpannerInTheWorks: She inadvertently ends up being one by [[spoiler:stealing the Susnet Street Hotel's radio transmitter for Reunion's use. This ends up hindering Rhodes Island's plan to broadcast a distress signal to the Dukes, requiring Ines to enact a far riskier plan]].

* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Even as a young child, Mephisto clearly doesn't operate on conventional human morality. [[spoiler:Rather, he's content with letting Faust and Talulah dictate his thoughts and actions, is so gullible he would take anything from them at face value regardless of how incompatible it is with reality, and as a result tends to apply anything he learns to the extreme. At the same time, for how much he reveres them, he has such a warped perception of reality and morality that he's insensitive to other people's perspective, to the point he sees all his actions as perfectly justified and he fails to understand why Faust would take issue with his atrocities, since he believes in their promise to survive together and thus has no reservations about letting other people take the fall for their sake.]]

* YouAreInCommandNow: With all of Reunion's major leaders either dead, deserted, or captured, Nines steps up to take leadership of the Reunion remnants who still hold to the organization's original principles.
