* TakeAThirdOption: Often tries to find the best option with as few, or no, casualties or collateral damage on the heroes' end as possible. Gets called out on this trope by Egg Boss Cassia.

* Main/Knighting: He was dubbed "Sir Sonic" by King Max at one point, only to be stripped of the title much later by his son, [the acting ruler] Elias Acorn [[note]]Sonic had stolen the Sword of Acorns in a desperate attempt to save Uncle Chuck, only to lose it to Eggman's robots. As he failed to consult the Acorn family or find out how it worked, this punishment was likely justified. Then again, Geoffery guided Elias' temporary rule and recommended this.[[/note]]. * CoolPeopleRebelAgainstAuthority: As long as it's for the greater good, he's willing to defy orders from Max, Elias, and even Sally to save the day. He comes to blows with Geoffery most often due to their differences in saving the day.

* HeroicSacrifice: Despite his willingness to do so, his frequent brushes with death always subvert this. Unlike Knuckles, Sonic has never died once.

** Attempted to infiltrate Robotropolis under roboticization while using a chip that can keep her in control, but Robotnik removed it. Dulcy saved the day with a device that changed her back.
** Years later when she sacrificed herself to preventing Eggman's Death Egg MkII from roboticizing the world.

* UnwillingRoboticization: In "Mecha Madness", where he was roboticised and turned against his friends. Then again, years later, by the BEM, though he retained his free will this time. As Mecha Sonic, the following tropes apply:

* JerkassBall: She's usually a nice girl, but she tends to act this way when she loses rationality through stress, such as slapping Sonic across the face and calling him selfish after the latter chose to fight Eggman handicapped over settling down with her.
* KillTheCutie: As a leader of a resistance force, and fighting an ongoing war, there were many attempts at her life. The biggest examples were [[DisneyDeath #47]] and #225 (both of which were miraculously undone).

* UndyingLoyalty: Tails has had a serious fallout with Sonic only once. Otherwise he has sticked by his side even times other allies have doubted him. Whenever Sonic has been EasilyCondemned he is also usually among the few to always believe his innocence.
* {{Yandere}}: Then he finally lost it when [[spoiler: Sonic untimely snarked and offended his family.]] Thankfully, he easily forgives him when they talked it out about the girl.

* BreakTheCutie: Losing her kingdom as a kid and leading a resistance ever since, not to mention balancing her personal and love lives, can be incredibly taxing. Sometimes even [[HeroicBSOD too much]].

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Occasionally, he will stumble into this role.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: He convinced [[http://archiesonic.wikia.com/wiki/E.V.E.#Battles_with_Sonic EVE]] to overcome her limitations, the latter heading into space. When they met again later, EVE revealed that she had destroyed numerous inhabited worlds across the galaxy. In fairness, EVE was going to kill Sonic until he convinced her otherwise, and EVE's rampage started in self-defense, before going into WellIntentionedExtremist territory. That and after Sonic made her realize the error of her ways, EVE gave Sonic one final bit of help before [[RedemptionEqualsDeath flying into a star.]]

* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: He's a pretty chill guy, even in the most extreme of situations. But if you genuinely piss him off, he can be ''very'' intimidating. For example in the previous universe, the Battle Bird Armada practically nuked New Mobotropolis trying to find the Babylon Gardens underneath it. When Sonic found out the Babylon Rouges were partially at fault and had no shred of empathy for the citizens. He was more than itching to lay the hurt on them. Circumstances prevented him from doing so but he did keep them from getting what they wanted, ending with this threat toward the trio in an [[TranquilFury eerily stoic tone]].

* MadeOfIron: Sonic's taken a lot of punishment over the years, but even after being beat down, he'll get right up and come back for more.

* RantInducingSlight: Yes, even ''Cream'' has her limits. When Nack captures Cheese and the Sol Emerald, Cream lunges at him only to be stopped by Bark. She then proceeds to rattle off the following quote, in a way a well meaning, polite kid like her would do.

* JerkassHasAPoint: When Sonic is temporarily roboticized and set loose on Knothole, Antoine wastes no time arresting him on charges for treason. While Antoine is a FrenchJerk who's always hated Sonic, and spends the subsequent trial doing everything he can to [[KangarooCourt make him look undeniably guilty]], he does point out that it's definitely suspicious, since Sonic had previously approached them with a plan to let himself be roboticized using a Neuro Overrider to retain his free will so he could destroy Robotnik's empire from within, and the fact that Sonic was roboticized immediately after the other Freedom Fighters vetoed his plan makes it seem that Sonic just disobeyed orders and went through with it anyway. While that's not the case, even the other Freedom Fighters agree that Antoine's suspicions aren't entirely invalid.

* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: When his parents return, they reveal his [[EmbarrassingMiddleName middle name]] is Maurice]], but Sonic cuts them off before they reveal his first name; the Sonic Encyclopedia reveals his real name is Olgilvie Maurice Hedgehog. The Encyclopedia also reveals that he hates his real middle name and first name so much that he actually had his name legally changed to Sonic.

* RebuiltPedestal: With Silver by the final pre-reboot story. While Sonic's view of Silver, as mentioned above, was still ''incredibly'' coarse at first, after Silver apologises and explains his WindmillCrusader escapade is dealt with, Sonic, albeit with reluctance, agrees to work with him, ultimately forgiving him and even playfully congratulating him after he helps them capture the robotocised Sally. Incidentally this peacemaking would serve as the final interaction of the pre-reboot continuity.

* TheGoodGuysAlwaysWin: According to Mammoth Mogul and Eggman, Sonic's long-term exposure to Chaos Energy has essentially made him an AnthropomorphicPersonification of Chaos; thus, no matter what plans the various villains try, Sonic will ''always'' find a way to win. This has driven Mammoth Mogul to play the LongGame, using his {{immortality}} to his advantage and simply wait until Sonic dies of old age or just gets too old to fight.
** A meta example also, since [[ExecutiveMeddling alleged mandates in the comic insist]] Sonic can't suffer a full loss against the villains (at least not without it being reversed by the end of it's respective story). Many of his victories however have been ''very'' bittersweet.
