He finally seems to have gained some of it back by ''New Horizons'' admitting to being generous with the player (even against his accountant's advice at times) and seeming overall happier.

* NiceGirl: She's very patient despite the mayor's inexperience and likes nothing better than helping him/her out. She even works on holidays!
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: When at home in ''Happy Home Designer'', she wears a pink shirt, while her twin brother Digby wears a blue one.
* SeriesMascot: She shares this role with the Villager and Tom Nook, if her presence on ''New Leaf''[='=]s Home Screen graphic, her appearance in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosForNintendo3DSAndWiiU'' as an Assist Trophy, and her [[PromotedToPlayable playable appearances]] in ''VideoGame/MarioKart8'', ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker'' (in a manner of speaking) and ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' are any indication.
* ShipTease: A few lines (and the gift you get from the Valentine's Day event) imply Isabelle has a crush on the mayor, [[BiTheWay regardless of their gender]].
* StealthPun: Her English name contains "bell" - bells are the name of the source of currency in the game. Her head is shaped like a bag of bells. When she walks/runs, a tinkling sound (much like a bell) can be heard. She's also the primary gold sink in the game, requiring you to earn a lot of bells in order to upgrade your town.

Like, ohmigosh! Peppy
villagers are just in it to have a good time. They love long naps, good food, and a party every once in a while. They may subtly flirt with are, like, those one girls, you know, like, the female players. They're easygoing and tend to be agreeable. Some of the more HotBlooded types may be annoyed by their slow pace, but relax... ones who live in California? I forget what they call them, but, like, they're just always energetic and interested in fashion and stuff! And they, like, use "Like" a lot? Whatever--they're always, like, full of energy, so, like, they really love doing what they do best. Chill. stuff!

* AdorablyPrecociousChild: Although "child" maybe an overstatement here due to their vague age, but they're implied to be the youngest out of all the villager personalities and they tend to act like prepubescent children trying to act all grown up.
* {{Adorkable}}: Especially in the first game. One of them, Derwin, takes this UpToEleven. Bob is another example of an Adorkable Lazy Villager, sleeping with a night light, having near child-like innocence, and even crying a river when he's feeling sad. Aww...
* AmbiguouslyBi: The fact they want to sleep in the same bed as you regardless of gender, think you're stealthy like a ninja, and admit you have hands perfect for shaking trees while the "dreamy" heart appears over their head during both leaves very little to the imagination. But given the NoHuggingNoKissing rules of Animal Crossing they don't go much farther.
* {{Bambification}}: Beau and Erik, the lazy deer villagers.
* BigEater: Half the time they talk about eating. If they are present at someone's birthday, they'll remark about wanting to eat the cake.
* BerserkButton: ''Wild World'' only. It is very rare for a lazy villager to get angry. But they will when they talk about how another villager called them a bug.
--> '''Lazy:''' That big meanie (villager name) called me a pesky little bug! What's the big deal!? So I ate a (food item)! Or SIX! Whatever! So I guess if a guy enjoys life, he is a bug. Lame, (catchphrase)!
** Also, don't call them cute. Or they'll be pretty upset for a bit, then accept the compliment.
* ButtMonkey: Not as much as the Cranky villagers, but they are often gossiped about by the Snooty villagers... and not in a good way.
* {{Camp}}: Papi's catchphrase is "haaay". Granted, he's a horse, but there's no way the English localization team didn't have the CampGay stereotype in mind when they decided on that one.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In earlier versions of the series (at least in the English localizations) the character archetype was loosely implied to be a collection of [[CoolOldGuy cool and wacky old guys]], with their [[ScatterbrainedSenior silliness being explained by their age]] and their laziness implying the SeniorSleepCycle. Later editions re-imagined their childish personalities as being literal childishness, now re-framed to be the youngest villager type. Minor details were changed on certain villagers along with this (such as removing Doc's mustache) to make their age vague on the other end of the spectrum.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: If it doesn't involve eating or sleeping, it probably doesn't reach Planet Lazy. Sometimes they can say outright weird things like how they had a dream about rock climbing [[TooDumbToLive in a sauna]] and the player character saved them. They aren't dumb, just childishly naive.
* CryCute: Sometimes they'll do this when someone accidentally hurts their feelings.
* TheCutie: And how! These guys will cry at the drop of a hat, are nothing but nice to everyone (with occasional moments of being insensitive), and are downright adorable. Plus they act like little kids which only adds to the cuteness. Beau's description in ''Pocket Camp'' even references this.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Bob, a male Lazy pink cat, whose default shirt looks more like a dress and has a strange knowledge of fashion.
** There's also Filbert, a male Lazy blue squirrel, who not only looks rather effeminate, but also wears a white and pink floral dress as his default shirt in every game he appears in, up until ''New Leaf'' (where it was changed to a black and white checkerboard patterned shirt).
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Beau's description in ''Pocket Camp'' mentions how everyone can't help but [[{{Pun}} fawn]] over him, due to his status as TheCutie.
* EruditeStoner: Bob may rival K.K. Slider in this regard having his eyes constantly narrowed in a "chill" way.
* FaceOfAThug: Rodeo is a black bull with red eyes, giving him an extremely intimidating appearance. But being a Lazy villager, he's a big softie.
* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: Big Top is one of the few villagers to wear pants. Joey is also a borderline BarefootCartoonAnimal, thanks to him wearing what appears to be a diaper.
* GuestFighter: And the only 3rd party one, a Felyne from ''VideoGame/MonsterHunter''.
* HeavySleeper: The other half they talk about napping. They also wake up at 9:00am and go to sleep at 11:00pm, which is longer than other villager types.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Big Top, an elephant of this type, seems to be one of these.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: They're so carefree that they sometimes don't realize the implications of what they're saying. Take this conversation in ''Wild World'' for example:
--> '''Lazy:''' Yesterday, I had the most amazing dream. I was this HUGE movie star! And I got invited to all these parties! There were all these famous actresses, and we all ate sponge cake together! By the way, you were in my dream, too.\\
'''Normal:''' Goodness! Really? Was I a famous actress, too?\\
'''Lazy:''' Actually, you were in the kitchen cooking the sponge cake. Yeah, you were really sweating up a storm! Yep. As usual, you were the star of the party!\\
'''Normal:''' I guess I could take that as a compliment... Yeah, if I were a total idiot! You're a stupid, sexist jerk! And I thought we were friends!
** And this exchange from New Leaf.
--> '''Normal:''' What did you want to talk about, Lazy?\\
'''Lazy:''' You're a neat freak, aren't you, Normal? Sorry my place is such a mess. I bet just being here is giving you the urge to start cleaning, huh?\\
'''Normal:''' Excuse me?! You invited me here to clean your house?! Um, RUDE! Wait a sec. Your place is actually pretty clean. It looks like you're the one who's a neat freak!
** Filbert, specifically, is noted to be this in his ''Pocket Camp'' bio.
* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: "Boku". (ぼく)
* {{Keet}}: Excitable, cute, and always looking for fun as long as it doesn't interrupt with their sleep schedule. They'll also talk about how much they love eating with a smile on their face.
* LiesDamnedLiesAndStatistics: PlayedForLaughs in ''New Leaf'' in one of the possible ways a Lazy villager may propose a Public Works Project. Their opening statement in this case is that studies show that the desired project could up their town's "coolness factor" by an absurdly large percentage. And then they [[LampshadeHanging admit they just made the number up]].
* LivingToys: Stitches, who looks like an old worn-out teddy bear that came to life. There's also Hopkins, a rabbit who has an air hole sticking out of the back of his head which suggests that he's an inflatable pool toy of some sort.
* ManChild: They may be adults, but they are mentally prepubescent kids. Cranky villagers outright state that they're still kids. But then again that may have been figurative [[note]] possibly implying that they're kids compared to their own age. Or the fact much older people tend to see even 20 year olds as "still kids" [[/note]]
* MommasBoy: If you write them letters frequently, they'll say they got one letter from you and ''nine'' from their mother. One must wonder how overprotective their mother is to send them a total of 9 letters each day.
* {{Nerd}}: Sometimes they'll approach you and ask you to define how old a "grown up" is. If you answer 40, they'll say they want to spend their older days buying comic books and video games.
* NerdGlasses: Derwin the bespectacled duck.
* NiceGuy: They're the nicest and easiest villagers to befriend. They're also the least likely villagers to move out of your town.
* NoodleIncident: Nobody knows why Lucky is completely covered in bandages, but one possible explanation states that it had to do with "a bizarre fishing accident involving a hook and two bass."
* SignatureLaugh: "A huh huh huh!"
* TheSlacker: Their most defining trait.
* SpearCounterpart: To Normal villagers.
* StalkerWithACrush: Depending on the game, they can get a little obsessive towards the player if befriended. In ''Wild World'' they'll admit to sneaking into the player's house and sleeping on their floor. Inviting them to your house in ''New Leaf'' may have them remark about wanting to sleep in the same bed with you, with all that that would imply.
* StayInTheKitchen: When a Normal Villager comes over, they'll imply they want them to clean their house, and in Wild World, they'll say the Normal Villager was cooking sponge cake for them.
* VagueAge: Probably the hardest villagers to tell what age they are. They act like prepubescent children, but live on their own, presumably make money, etc. Possible dialogue you may hear from one while shopping in ''Happy Home Designer'' has him identifying himself as "an adult" ([[GrowingUpSucks and hating it]]).
** Earliest editions of the series hinted that they may have actually been conceived as a [[CoolOldGuy friendly elderly and retired group of villagers]] (See ''Characterization Marches On'' above).

Snooty characters aren't ''nasty,'' exactly, but they definitely have a highfalutin' attitude. They have a tendency to rub others
the ''burn,'' baby? The Sporty type is always looking for ways to buff their manly bod. They're always looking wrong way. That said, they're not totally heartless -- in fact, if befriended, they can be quite nice. They have a taste for the next big event, finer things in life and if there isn't one coming up, they'll create one! They love high standards, though. In New Leaf especially they're not as mean as they used to get people pumped up. Note that, unlike be and are actually quite friendly to other villagers and especially the [[JerkJock jocks at your school]], these guys are nice and liked by most.player.

* {{Acrofatic}}: Some species in the game, such as elephants and pigs, are designed with a noticeably chubby frame. So ones assigned the athletic Jock personality are essentially this.
* {{Adorkable}}: They'll go on tangents sometimes about how they're actually a sensitive, misunderstood guy and cry in front of the player. They may also cry TearsOfJoy upon seeing the player character again if the game has not been played for a very long time.
* AmbiguouslyGay: They really like buff construction workers to the point of almost fainting when they mention their physique. They also start swooning at the thought of [[EvenTheGuysWantHim Cyrus]].
* AwesomeMcCoolname: Kid Cat.
* BigBrotherMentor: They tend to act like this towards the player when befriended.
* BookDumb: Although they aren't ''that'' dumb. Just a little slow-witted. Jay, a Jock bluebird, is surprisingly clever, uses words like "tenacity" and "sublime" while apparently knowing what those words mean, and judging from his house, is a musician, so he's an aversion; Teddy, a Jock bear, also has a bookshelf in his house. They actually write pretty deep letters considering and are more BookDumb than actually stupid. A lot of these jocks end up actually just dumb in math and pretty smart in other things, as they will ask the player character for help with a math problem to which a Normal villager will get upset if the PC gives the right answer saying that he can't rely on his friends to solve all his math problems in life.
* CasanovaWannabe: They had shades of this in the Gamecube version, but this is no longer the case in the sequels.
* EpicFail: In ''New Leaf'', during a conversation with Normal villagers, they can't even get simple math problems correct without the player's help.
* {{Flanderization}}: After the [[UsefulNotes/NintendoGameCube GameCube]] game, they become a lot more sport obsessed.
* FriendlessBackground: Implied in a conversation with them, once you really get to know them, they'll say they're lucky to have friends at all.
* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: Kid Cat and Snake are one of the few villagers to wear pants.
* GuestFighter: Inkwell, an octopus who loves anything ''VideoGame/{{Splatoon}}''-related.
* HiddenDepths: Some of their conversations imply that they aren't that obsessed with working out as they like to make themselves out to be. Also, some of them have an interest in dinosaurs. There's also the fact they watch Soap Operas. They even say at one point if they're the "newbie" in the town in New Leaf they are generally very shy, giving them some introverted jock traits.
* HotBlooded: Be careful how you answer some of their questions (especially in the GCN version). They can be rather... TESTY, from time to time.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: A conversation in ''New Leaf'' involves a Jock villager accidentally making a Normal villager cry when he runs out of things to talk to her about and asks the PlayerCharacter for help, and she thinks that means that he thinks she's boring. The Jock villager tries to comfort her by saying that he was just nervous and the Normal villager instantly cheers up. They may also upset Lazy villagers when they try to get them to be more active.
* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: "Oira". (オイラ)
* {{Keet}}: They're very excitable and fun, which just makes them even more adorable. ''New Leaf'' turns it up a notch by giving Jocks the highest pitched voice out of all the male villagers and really fleshing out their excitable nature a lot more.
* LovableJock: Unlike [[JerkJock the jocks at your school]], these guys are very friendly and have a good heart.
* MaskedLuchador: Stinky.
* MommasBoy: Not nearly to the extent of the Lazy Villagers, but if you wake them up early they might say, "Five more minutes... Pleaaaaase Mommy!".
* NightmareFetishist: Genji who wants to live in a house perfect to tell ghost stories in if you take his request in Happy Home Designer. It includes skeletons and many of the things you'd need to make a horror place.
* NoIndoorVoice: Chances are a conversation with a Jock villager will lead to them yelling loudly for whatever reason. One of their greetings just has them yelling "Hi!" directly at the player character's face. Lazy villagers call them out on it and complain they're too loud even while they try to talk normally.
* NotSoDifferent: See entry under Normal Villagers.
* OccidentalOtaku: Genji. His catchphrase is even "otaku".
* RidiculouslyHumanRobot: Ribbot the robot frog. Despite his appearance, he gets hungry, drinks coffee, and can even ''get fleas'' like the rest of the animals.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: In ''New Leaf'', they sometimes report asking a male and female villager who are close "How are the lovebirds doing?", resulting in this.
* ShipperOnDeck: Think Peppy and Cranky villagers would make a good couple.
** They may also mention instances where they've seen two villagers getting along closely and asked, "How are the two lovebirds doing?" Apparently, they just laugh, leading to the Jock villager's embarrassment.
* ShoutOutToShakespeare: {{Theatre/Hamlet}} [[PunnyName the hamster.]] For bonus points, his picture quote is ''"The ear's the thing."''
* SpearCounterpart: Most comparable to Peppy villagers, both being energetic and, as of New Leaf, having the highest pitched voice of their respective genders. Uchi villagers also share their love of sports.
* StoutStrength: As noted in {{Acrofatic}} above, some species types are notably chubby, and the Jock lineup includes villagers of these species. Roald's bio in ''Pocket Camp'' lampshades this, saying he "packs a lot of muscle into that tiny, round body."
* SurferDude: They tend to talk like this sometimes, dude.
* TookALevelInKindness: They weren't exactly ''mean'' during the pre DS era but later installments would give them more depth and they'd be a lot less rude at times. They still laugh at your misfortune should the player get stung by a bee, but it's a far cry from what they used to be like.
* ToiletHumor: They sneeze often and remark about how something may have gone flying towards you.
* UnusualEuphemism:
** When they lose a game of hide-and-seek: "Aw, barbells!"
** When giving them perfect fruit to eat: "'''''YUMMAHUMMA!'''''"
* VerbalTic: Dude, whenever they use it. Also "bro" and other "hip" variants such as brozinsky, brosky and so on.

of the townsfolk, the Cranky new personalities in ''New Leaf'', villagers with this personality are hard to warm up to, sarcastic, and snarky. However, it might be that big sister types. They're very protective of their HiddenHeartOfGold. Surprisingly, they get along well with some of the other villagers--but not all.friends.

* AdaptationalHeroism: Ganon appears thanks to amiibo support. He may be Cranky, but he's still certainly nicer than his version from the original games.
* {{Bishonen}}: Chief and Fang have the effeminate face and poses down pat, and Rooney looks like a character from a sports anime.
* BoxingKangaroo: Both Cranky kangaroos (and the only male kangaroos in the series as-of ''New Leaf'') evoke this imagery to some extent - Rooney is a more overt example, having boxing gloves and a house filled with training equipment and a boxing ring, while Walt has no such theme to his design but boasts HandwrapsOfAwesome.
* ChessMotifs: Roscoe is a black horse who has a checkerboard shirt. His house contains the Modern series of furniture, which also has a checked pattern.
* CoolHelmet: Knox, a chicken who wears a golden helmet for some reason.
* CoolOldGuy: Not as old as most examples, but implied to be older than the other villages and the player character.
* DeadpanSnarker: ''Especially'' in ''City.''
* FaceOfAThug: They give out an intimidating mien and often have rough appearances that cause other people to get frightened of them, which they lament over. Although it becomes something of an InformedAttribute when someone like [[http://images.wikia.com/animalcrossing/images/f/f0/Tom_NewLeaf_Official.png Tom]] says this.
* FriendlessBackground: Implied to not have very many friends outside of the villagers in your town and the Player Character. Probably because of their gruff disposition.
* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: Knox is one of the few villagers to wear pants, as well as one of the few birds in the series to ever wear pants.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Ganon may have tried to destroy Hyrule multiple times, but in ''New Leaf'', you can convince him to move into your town, befriend him, and give him fruit and butterflies, if you so choose.
* GrumpyOldMan: The personality, although they don't seem to be ''drastically'' older than the other characters. ''New Leaf'' gives us this gem of dialogue: "The night is still young, though [[SelfDeprecation I am definitely not]], (catchphrase)!"
* GuestFighter: Ganon, the king of evil and recurring BigBad from ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'' series.
* HandwrapsOfAwesome: Walt has these, fitting with his rugged appearance and [[BoxingKangaroo his species' reputation]].
* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: "Ore". (オレ)
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: ''Despite'' their grump and snark, they do warm up to you. Croque takes this further for having his default CatchPhrase say "as if". Also they do remember pranking a girl and feeling bad for her back when they were a young lad.
* MayDecemberRomance: Sometimes they'll hang out with a Peppy villager to the point of Jock villagers shipping them. If it's truly love and they actually are as old as they seem to imply, then this is probably the trope to use.
* MoralityPet: The aforementioned Peppy villagers, Lazy villagers, and even Normal villagers all get along with them.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In ''New Leaf'', like Snooty villagers, if they make another villager angry in conversation, they sometimes get sad.
* TheNightOwl: They go to sleep later than other villagers and also wake up later.
* NotAMorningPerson: Cranky villagers wake up at 10 AM by default, later than all the other types of villagers except Uchi in ''New Leaf''.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Vladimir is a pink bear cub who's apparently the oldest person in town.
* PetTheDog: They surprisingly get along well with Lazy villagers, who look up to them. Not to mention Ganon, the remorseless King of Evil, can be one of these guys which makes it all the more hilarious if he's nice to a lazy villager. Or nice to Wolf Link or Medli.
* PungeonMaster: Rocco, according to his ''New Leaf'' [[AllThereInTheManual April Fool's stats]] and ''Pocket Camp'' in-game bio.
* RealMenWearPink: Vladimir, who's a pink cub.
* SignatureLaugh: "GAHAHA!" In one of their conversations with Lazy villagers, they even try to convince the Lazy villager to change their SignatureLaugh into their own. Ganon's catchphrase is "heh heh".
* SpearCounterpart: In ''New Leaf'', with their rough exterior, yet caring hidden side , they are now considered the male equivalent to Uchi villagers, and both are also stubborn and opinionated. Before this, they were compared to Snooty villagers.
* StealthPun: Apollo the bald eagle's birthday is on the [[UsefulNotes/AmericanHolidays Fourth of July]].
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A
* TookALevelInKindness: Zigzagged in between installments. They became less grouchy in ''Wild World'', but then they were made more snarky in ''City Folk''. Come ''New Leaf'', they're significantly less grumpy and more approachable, albeit a little rough at first.
* VagueAge: Act like old men, but could be anywhere from their early thirties to late sixties. This is especially weird with Murphy and Vladimir, who are both apparently middle-aged ''cubs'' (i.e., baby bears).

to:

* AdaptationalHeroism: Ganon appears thanks to amiibo support. He may be Cranky, but he's still certainly nicer than his version {{Bifauxnen}}: Canberra.
* BigOlUnibrow: Hazel
from the original games.
* {{Bishonen}}: Chief and Fang have the effeminate face and poses down pat, and Rooney looks like a character from a sports anime.
* BoxingKangaroo: Both Cranky kangaroos (and the only male kangaroos in the series as-of
''New Leaf'') evoke this imagery to some extent - Rooney is a more overt example, having boxing gloves and a house filled with training equipment and a boxing ring, while Walt Leaf'' has no one. Her catchphrase is even "Uni-WOW"!
* BearyFriendly: Some of them are bear villagers,
such theme as Charlise.
* BullyHunter: These spunky ladies do not tolerate bullies, and tell you

know when to give up and never pick on anyone for no reason. They'll even want to know if you're pestered by anyone in town so they can beat them up.
* ChessMotifs: Roscoe is a black horse who has a checkerboard shirt. His house contains {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Perhaps the Modern series of furniture, which also has a checked pattern.
* CoolHelmet: Knox, a chicken who wears a golden helmet for some reason.
* CoolOldGuy: Not as old as
most examples, but implied to be older than the other villages and the player character.
* DeadpanSnarker: ''Especially'' in ''City.''
* FaceOfAThug:
out there villagers ever. They give out an intimidating mien and often seem to think that a "turf war" is literally just people throwing turf at each other. Also they have a stash of... well, everything. Especially humorous if one says they gave you a traffic cone from their stash of construction equipment. Also, they think doppelgänger is spelled "waffle hanger". Also they have bizarre dreams and salute potatoes.
* CoolBigSis: As
rough appearances that cause as they can be, they're extremely protective of the PlayerCharacter, and will even give you medicine for free if you talk to them after being stung by a bee. Even if they're sick themselves.
* CuteBruiser: They're all cute but one of the things they like to talk about openly is ''beating
other people up''.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Cranky villagers, as both come across as InnocentlyInsensitive, but are caring and empathetic deep down. Both personality types wake up and go
to get frightened bed at later times than other villagers. Uchi villagers also share many traits with Jock villagers, such as their love of them, which they lament over. Although it becomes something sports.
* ElegantGothicLolita: Muffy the sheep's design resembles this, with black wool, purple horns, makeup, and a pink scarf. Her home also has a bunch
of an InformedAttribute when someone like [[http://images.rococo furniture and other fancy items.
* {{Fanservice}}: The cover of K.K. Disco features Fuschia in a [[BareYourMidriff crop top]] and short skirt. [[https://vignette.

* FriendlessBackground: Implied to not have very many friends outside of the villagers in your town and the Player Character. Probably because of their gruff disposition.

* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: Knox Rocket is one of the few villagers to wear pants, as well as one of the few birds in the series to ever wear pants.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Ganon may have tried GyaruGirl: Deidre looks like one.
* HotBlooded: It doesn't take much
to destroy Hyrule multiple times, but in ''New Leaf'', you can convince him to move into your town, befriend him, anger them, and give him fruit and butterflies, if you so choose.
* GrumpyOldMan: The personality, although
once they do, watch out!
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Similar to the Lazy villagers above, they can sometimes make other villagers cry by saying certain rude things that rub them the wrong way. Like saying a Lazy villager's catchphrase is "lame" for instance. They
don't seem to be ''drastically'' older than the other characters.

* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: "Ore". (オレ)
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: ''Despite''
"Uchi". (ウチ) Yes, the Japanese names for the villager types are their grump personal pronouns. Uchi is a case of TooLongDidntDub on the part of the fanbase.
* TheLadette: Their favorite topics of conversation include getting into fights, playing sports,
and snark, they do warm up to you. Croque takes this further for having his default CatchPhrase say "as if". Also they do remember pranking getting into more fights.
* LastSecondWordSwap: Place
a girl cool tent at your campsite in ''Pocket Camp'', and feeling bad for her back they'll note how the motorcycle reminds them of when they were living on the road and running away from the law-I mean, the LOBSTERS.
* MagicalGirl: Mira, with her color motif and English and Japanese names (Mirako) being
a young lad.
ShoutOut to [[{{Franchise/SailorMoon}} Sailor Venus]].
* MayDecemberRomance: Sometimes MamaBear: They're very protective of their friends. Befriend them and they'll hang out with a Peppy villager to the point of Jock villagers shipping them. If it's truly love and tell you that they'll gladly beat up anyone for you that's giving you trouble.
* NeatFreak: When visiting their houses or visiting yours,
they actually are as old as they seem often talk about cleaning methods.
* NightmareFetishist: Sorta justified for her being a phoenix, but Phoebe wishes
to imply, then this is probably the trope to use.
* MoralityPet: The aforementioned Peppy villagers, Lazy villagers,
live in a house surrounded by fire in ''Happy Home Designer'', giving you campfires, torches, [[BreadEggsMilkSquick and]] gas pumps and even Normal villagers all get along with them.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In ''New Leaf'', like Snooty villagers, if they make another villager angry in conversation, they sometimes get sad.
* TheNightOwl: They go
gas cans... Making her seeming to sleep later than other villagers and also wake up later.
be an arsonist...
* NotAMorningPerson: Cranky villagers They wake up at 10 AM by default, later than all the any other types villager (11 AM by default), and are still a little sleepy when they get up.
* PassionateSportsGirl: May randomly ask the PlayerCharacter how they would rate themselves at some sort
of sport, saying that she's going to try to organize a town tournament.
* PerkyGoth: Muffy the sheep evokes this with her appearance contrasting with her personality. Her birthday is also Valentine's Day and her default catchphrase is "nightshade".
* ThePhoenix: While Phoebe is technically an ostrich, her name, catchphrase and appearance make it quite clear that she's actually a phoenix.
* {{Retcon}}: Like Smug above, some
villagers except Uchi such as Charlise and Sylvia (originally Peppy and Snooty) were changed into this personality in ''New Leaf''.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Vladimir is a pink bear cub who's apparently the oldest person in town.
* PetTheDog:
SugarAndIcePersonality: They surprisingly get along well with Lazy may like beating people up, but they are mainly violently protective of the Player Character because they see them as a younger sibling. They even admit in letters "deep emotional stuff isn't usually their thing". Suuuure.
* {{Tomboy}}: They tend to have more "out there" designs than other female
villagers, who look up to them. Not to mention Ganon, are interested in sports, and are generally fairly rough-and-tumble. One of the remorseless King of Evil, can be one of these guys which makes it all the more hilarious if he's nice to a lazy villager. Or nice to Wolf Link or Medli.

* {{Adorkable}}: Yep, even these guys. They say stay out of their closets because they have their baby toys and clothes in it, giving them some similarities to Lazy villagers. They also cry often when you write them a good letter.
* BigfootSasquatchAndYeti: Hans is a gorilla with white fur and a winter-themed house which suggest that he's a well-dressed yeti.
* {{Bishonen}}: Some of them were designed with this in mind, such as Marshal, Julian, and Colton. Ken is also rather pretty for a rooster, given he wears what appears to be mascara around his eyes and has a Bishie Ninja look to him, while Olaf looks like a love interest from a 70's shojo manga. Then there's Leopold and Ed [[RetCon who were originally jocks]].
* BiTheWay: They will quite shamelessly flirt and show strong affection for the player character and other villagers regardless of gender. Especially shown in the fact when one of them might forget to return an item from a Jock villager, and adds a card on the present that leaves very little to the imagination basically saying "I'm sorry I forgot to give this to you, do you still love me?" The Jock villagers, being rather ambiguous about [[AmbiguouslyGay their preference]] themselves will naturally be flattered and start blushing.
* [[CampGay Camp Bi]]: Suffice to say they like to flaunt their flamboyancy including flirting with the player, talking about how certain pleasurable activities such as watching fish is "romantic" and so on.
* CartoonCheese: Chadder, a [[{{Irony}} mouse]] who looks like he's made of it.
* CasanovaWannabe: Flirts with the PlayerCharacter (and sometimes other villagers), but [[NoHuggingNoKissing it never goes anywhere]], [[BestialityIsDepraved for obvious reasons]].
* ConMan: On days when Redd is in town, they will try to sell you a painting that is almost always fake for a ridiculous amount of bells. [[SubvertedTrope However]], sometimes if you agree to the trade, they might end up feeling so bad that they charged such a high price that they just give the painting to you for free.
* CoolOldGuy: A few of them sport facial hair and designs which lend them a certain older gentlemanly flair, most notably Lionel, a lion with a white BadassMustache and mane.
* TheDandy: Care much more about their appearance than the other male villager types.
* {{Gonk}}: As one can tell from looking at the image, if a smug villager is not a {{bishonen}}, he is this. There is little in between.
* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: Olaf is one of the few villagers to wear pants.
* {{Greaser Delinquent|s}}: Eugene the koala is designed to look like one of these, with black fur that looks like sideburns, CoolShades that [[SunglassesAtNight he wears at all times]], his default shirt being a leather jacket, and his default catchphrase being "yeah buddy". All he lacks is the actual attitude.
* GuestFighter: Wolf Link, Link's wolf form from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess''. It's highly amusing that someone who is famous for being portrayed as a stoic HeroicMime is given this personality.
* {{Hipster}}: They're always trying out obscure trends and trying to stay out of the norm, which some of the other villagers find irritating. In fact, some of their dialogue can be considered a TakeThat at hipsters.
* InLoveWithLove: Their dialogue at The Roost implies this.
* InsistentTerminology: They insist that they're ''enthusiasts'', not geeks. [[ClosetGeek Because geeks aren't cool.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: Though Smug villagers aren't mean, really, just madly in love with themselves.
* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: "Boku", in katakana rather than hiragana. (ボク)
* KnowNothingKnowItAll: One potential conversation a Smug villager may have with a Lazy villager has the former offering the latter a lesson in cooking pasta. As the conversation goes on, however, it becomes clear that the Lazy villager is far more knowledgeable on the matter while the Smug villager remains confident in what he's saying.
* LargeHam: Absolutely this, most notably when they describe a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to a Lazy villager in the most unnecessarily drawn out and descriptive way possible. They tend to be quite theatrical with their dialogue in general.
* MistakenNationality: Well, they don't really have nationalities, but the bear Klaus was mistaken to be German, Swiss, Prussian, or Austrian inspired by the translators, while having a face similar to UsefulNotes/JuliusCaesar, this is shown even further in that he wants an ancient Roman bath house as his house in ''Happy Home Designer''. Whoops?
* NiceGuy: Despite being called "smug", they're actually one of the friendliest villager types and rarely have anything mean to say. They can be quite full of themselves, however.
* NonIronicClown: Pietro is a clown sheep, but he has a jolly appearance and is as friendly as any other villager of his type.
* PrincelyYoungMan: Colton seems to invoke this with a snobby manedo and royal attire. He even bows on his amiibo card!
* RailEnthusiast: They may sometimes go on a tangent about the previous models of trains used in the town train station... much to their own embarrassment once they realize it.
* {{Retcon}}: Some villagers such as Ed, Kidd and O'Hare (originally a Jock, Lazy and Cranky respectively) were changed into this personality on the transition to ''New Leaf''.
* OccidentalOtaku: They also show interest to anime, such as when they start complaining about the fact that anime songs aren't played in your town's club. In ''Happy Home Designer'' they talk about marathoning anime and say that manga is superior to western comics. Then we come to Ken, who's basically either a rooster of Japanese descent or this. His name is arguably even a reference to Shuriken, a type of Japanese throwing star.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Some take to calling themselves "geniuses" and call themselves names like "Beardo of the Red Rose" to show how suave they think they are.
* SmugSnake: Well, ''duh.'' They aren't mean, though.
* SpearCounterpart: To Snooty villagers, as both are a little vain.

Bob is another example of an Adorkable Lazy Villager, sleeping with a night light, having near child-like innocence, and even these guys. lazy deer villagers.
* OccidentalOtaku: They also show interest to anime, such as when they start complaining about BigEater: Half the fact that anime songs aren't played in your town's club. In ''Happy Home Designer'' time they talk about marathoning anime eating.
* ButtMonkey: Not as much as the Cranky villagers, but they are often gossiped about by the Snooty villagers...
and say not in a good way.
* {{Camp}}: Papi's catchphrase is "haaay". Granted, he's a horse, but there's no way the English localization team didn't have the CampGay stereotype in mind when they decided on
that manga is superior one.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In earlier versions of the series (at least in the English localizations) the character archetype was loosely implied
to western comics. Then we come be a collection of [[CoolOldGuy cool and wacky old guys]], with their [[ScatterbrainedSenior silliness being explained by their age]] and their laziness implying the SeniorSleepCycle. Later editions re-imagined their childish personalities as being literal childishness, now re-framed to Ken, who's basically either a rooster be the youngest villager type. Minor details were changed on certain villagers along with this (such as removing Doc's mustache) to make their age vague on the other end of Japanese descent the spectrum.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: If it doesn't involve eating
or this. His name is arguably even sleeping, it probably doesn't reach Planet Lazy. Sometimes they can say outright weird things like how they had a reference to Shuriken, dream about rock climbing [[TooDumbToLive in a type of Japanese throwing star.sauna]] and the player character saved them. They aren't dumb, just childishly naive.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Some take CryCute: Sometimes they'll do this when someone accidentally hurts their feelings.
* TheCutie: And how! These guys will cry at the drop of a hat, are nothing but nice
to calling themselves "geniuses" everyone (with occasional moments of being insensitive), and call themselves names are downright adorable. Plus they act like "Beardo little kids which only adds to the cuteness.
* FullyDressedCartoonAnimal: Big Top is one
of the Red Rose" few villagers to show how suave wear pants. Joey is also a borderline BarefootCartoonAnimal, thanks to him wearing what appears to be a diaper.
* GuestFighter: And the only 3rd party one, a Felyne from ''VideoGame/MonsterHunter''.
* HeavySleeper: The other half
they think talk about napping. They also wake up at 9:00am and go to sleep at 11:00pm, which is longer than other villager types.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Big Top, an elephant of this type, seems to be one of these.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: They're so carefree that
they are.
* SmugSnake: Well, ''duh.'' They
sometimes don't realize the implications of what they're saying.
'''Lazy:''' You're a neat freak,
aren't mean, though.
you, Normal? Sorry my place is such a mess. I bet just being here is giving you the urge to start cleaning, huh?\\
'''Normal:''' Excuse me?! You invited me here to clean your house?! Um, RUDE! Wait a sec. Your place is actually pretty clean. It looks like you're the one who's a neat freak!
** Filbert, specifically, is noted to be this in his ''Pocket Camp'' bio.
* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: "Boku". (ぼく)
* SpearCounterpart: To Snooty villagers, as both are Normal villagers.

obsessive towards the player if befriended. In ''Wild World'' they'll admit to sneaking into the player's house and sleeping on their floor. Inviting them to your house in ''New Leaf'' may have them remark about wanting to sleep in the same bed with you, with all that that would imply.
* {{Unicorn}}: Julian, supposedly StayInTheKitchen: When a horse, Normal Villager comes over, they'll imply they want them to clean their house, and in Wild World, they'll say the Normal Villager was cooking sponge cake for them.
* VagueAge: Probably the hardest villagers to tell what age they are. They act like prepubescent children, but live on their own, presumably make money, etc. Possible dialogue you may hear from one while shopping in ''Happy Home Designer''
has him identifying himself as "an adult" ([[GrowingUpSucks and hating it]]).

Do you feel
the new personalities in ''New Leaf'', villagers with this personality are big sister types. They are a bunch of tough cookies, but they are very outgoing and friendly. ''burn,'' baby? The Sporty type is always looking for ways to buff their manly bod. They're very protective of their friends.always looking for the next big event, and if there isn't one coming up, they'll create one! They love to get people pumped up. Note that, unlike the [[JerkJock jocks at your school]], these guys are nice and liked by most.

* {{Bifauxnen}}: Canberra.
* BigOlUnibrow: Hazel from ''New Leaf'' has one. Her catchphrase is even "Uni-WOW"!
* BearyFriendly: Some of them are bear villagers, such as Charlise.
* BullyHunter: These spunky ladies do not tolerate bullies, and tell you to know when to give up and never pick on anyone for no reason. They'll even want to know if you're pestered by anyone in town so they can beat them up.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Perhaps the most out there villagers ever. They seem to think that a "turf war" is literally just people throwing turf at each other. Also they have a stash of... well, everything. Especially humorous if one says they gave you a traffic cone from their stash of construction equipment. Also, they think doppelgänger is spelled "waffle hanger". Also they have bizarre dreams and salute potatoes.
* CoolBigSis: As rough as they can be, they're extremely protective of the PlayerCharacter, and will even give you medicine for free if you talk to them after being stung by a bee. Even if they're sick themselves.
* CuteBruiser: They're all cute but one of the things they like to talk about openly is ''beating other people up''.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Cranky villagers, as both come across as InnocentlyInsensitive, but are caring and empathetic deep down. Both personality types wake up and go to bed at later times than other villagers. Uchi villagers also share many traits with Jock villagers, such as their love of sports.
* ElegantGothicLolita: Muffy the sheep's design resembles this, with black wool, purple horns, makeup, and a pink scarf. Her home also has a bunch of rococo furniture and other fancy items.

* GyaruGirl: Deidre looks like one.
* HotBlooded: It doesn't take much to anger them, and once they do, watch out!

* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: "Uchi". (ウチ) Yes, the Japanese names for the villager types are their personal pronouns. Uchi is a case of TooLongDidntDub on the part of the fanbase.
* TheLadette: Their favorite topics of conversation include getting into fights, playing sports, and getting into more fights.
* LastSecondWordSwap: Place a cool tent at your campsite in ''Pocket Camp'', and they'll note how the motorcycle reminds them of when they were living on the road and running away from the law-I mean, the LOBSTERS.
* MagicalGirl: Mira, with her color motif and English and Japanese names (Mirako) being a ShoutOut to [[{{Franchise/SailorMoon}} Sailor Venus]].
* MamaBear: They're very protective of their friends. Befriend them and they'll tell you that they'll gladly beat up anyone for you that's giving you trouble.
* NeatFreak: When visiting their houses or visiting yours, they often talk about cleaning methods.
* NightmareFetishist: Sorta justified for her being a phoenix, but Phoebe wishes to live in a house surrounded by fire in ''Happy Home Designer'', giving you campfires, torches, [[BreadEggsMilkSquick and]] gas pumps and gas cans... Making her seeming to be an arsonist...
* NotAMorningPerson: They wake up later than any other villager (11 AM by default), and are still a little sleepy when they get up.
* PassionateSportsGirl: May randomly ask the PlayerCharacter how they would rate themselves at some sort of sport, saying that she's going to try to organize a town tournament.
* {{Retcon}}: Like Smug above, some villagers such as Charlise and Sylvia (originally Peppy and Snooty) were changed into this personality in ''New Leaf''.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: They may like beating people up, but they are mainly violently protective of the Player Character because they see them as a younger sibling. They even admit in letters "deep emotional stuff isn't usually their thing". Suuuure.
* {{Tomboy}}: They tend to have more "out there" designs than other female villagers, are interested in sports, and are generally fairly rough-and-tumble. One of the petitions an Uchi villager may ask you to gather signatures for is called "Tomboys Are People Too."
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: They sometimes mention that they absolutely love potatoes and can eat them in any format.

* AwesomeMcCoolname: Kid Cat.
* BigBrotherMentor: They tend to act like this towards the player when befriended.
* BookDumb: Although they aren't ''that'' dumb. Just a little slow-witted. Jay, a Jock bluebird, is surprisingly clever, uses words like "tenacity" and "sublime" while apparently knowing what those words mean, and judging
from his house, is a musician, so he's an aversion; Teddy, a Jock bear, also has a bookshelf in his house.

[[caption-width-right:232:Some examples of Cranky villagers. Clockwise from top left: Wolfgang, Vladimir, Roscoe, Octavian, Knox, Butch, Apollo, Harry, and Gaston]]
Implied to be the oldest of the townsfolk, the Cranky villagers are hard to warm up to, sarcastic, and snarky. However, it might be that they just don't connect with the other townspeople due to being somewhat older. Befriend them, and they reveal their HiddenHeartOfGold. Surprisingly, they get along well with some of the other villagers--but not all.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: Ganon appears thanks to amiibo support.
* DeadpanSnarker: ''Especially'' in ''City.''
* UsefulNotes/JapanesePronouns: "Ore". (オレ)
* RealMenWearPink: Vladimir, who's a pink cub.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A
* TookALevelInKindness: Zigzagged in between installments.

[[caption-width-right:243:Some examples of Smug villagers. Clockwise from top left: Zell, Marshal, Olaf, Julian, Beardo, Shep, Chops, Eugene, and Quillson]]
One of the new personalities in ''New Leaf'', villagers with this personality act gentlemanly and are easy to get along with, but as their name suggests, can get quite insufferable at times.
----
* {{Adorkable}}: Yep, even these guys.
* {{Unicorn}}: Julian, supposedly a horse, has a horn.

* {{Bishonen}}: Despite being a peaCOCK, with his eyeshadow, BareYourMidriff outfit and [[CrossDressingVoices Cross-Dressing Voice]], erm...well...[[note]] His looks actually fit with male peafowl to be fair, as most peahens tend to have notoriously drab feather colors.[[/note]]

'Jerk With A Heart of Gold' tag was misspelled as 'Jerk With A Heart of Hold'.

* JerkWithAHeartOfHold: He comes off as an unpleasant character, but he's actually a well meaning guy. He can't help it if his temper gets in the way. [[spoiler:He also thanks the Mayor after the Reset Center has been re-established in the town.]] If the Reset Center is re-build, he is considerably nicer, calmly asking why the player didn't save and then giving some gentle advice on how to deal with it in the future (such as keeping the battery loaded or saving more often).

to:

* BoxingKangaroo: Rooney.Both Cranky kangaroos (and the only male kangaroos in the series as-of ''New Leaf'') evoke this imagery to some extent - Rooney is a more overt example, having boxing gloves and a house filled with training equipment and a boxing ring, while Walt has no such theme to his design but boasts HandwrapsOfAwesome.

* FaceOfAThug: They give out an intimidating mien that causes other people to get frightened of them, which they lament over. Although it becomes something of an InformedAttribute when someone like [[http://images.wikia.com/animalcrossing/images/f/f0/Tom_NewLeaf_Official.png Tom]] says this.

* CoolOldGuy: A few of them sport facial hair and designs which lend them a certain older gentlemanly flair, most notably Lionel, a lion with a white BadassMustache and mane.

* LargeHam: Some of their dialogue has shades of this, most notably when they describe a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to a Lazy villager in the most unnecessarily drawn out and descriptive way possible.
