* In the [[Manga/TheLegendOfZeldaAkiraHimekawa manga adaptation]] of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOracleGames'', Veran pulls a GrandTheftMe on Nayru and pretends to be a loyal and helpful advisor to Queen Ambi even as she manipulates her into driving her kingdom into the ground.

** Seto Kaiba, in his first appearance in the manga and the first anime, pretends to befriend Yugi, and has Yugi's grandfather's Blue Eyes White Dragon switched with a copy. When Yugi figures this out and calls out Kaiba on the switch, Kaiba loses the facade and whacks Yugi in the face with a briefcase.
** Kaiba does it a second time during Death-T in the manga. He pretends that he has forgiven Yugi and simply wants to let him and Jonouchi have a good time; once Yugi discovers that his grandfather is in the battle arena, Kaiba drops the pretense of being nice. Yugi notices the difference in how he acts around a disgruntled ex-employee and how he acts around him but doesn't suspect enough to see through him until it's too late.

* Light Yagami from ''Manga/DeathNote'' is a cold calculative murderer who presents himself as a simple, charming young man. He will often get close to someone who he can use for his own gain and then [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness kill them if they fulfill their purpose for him]]. The most notable example is him acting supportive of Raye Penber's fiancée so that he could write her real name before she shared her theory on who Kira, a.k.a. Light, might be. Once the note took effect, he coldly reveals himself and mockingly says farewell to her.

** Suzaku is a downplayed version of this. He acts like an extremely nice, too heroic to stand, self-sacrificing guy, but this is an act he puts on because of his own issues. But he's also not secretly evil. He really is a decent guy, just not nearly as much as he pretends to be.

* Xiaxi, the protagonist of ''Manhua/GoddessCreationSystem'', acts sweet, cultured, and demure around the Wang Pu brothers in order to make them fall in love with her. She actually thinks they're a bunch of total assholes so she doesn't mind how her influence destabilizes the family or how hurt the brothers are by her seemingly sweet and benevolent actions. She has her reasons, but even she worries that it's starting to come too naturally to her.

* Doe-Doe Eun of ''Manhwa/PigBride'' is publicly a sweet YamatoNadeshiko maiden who enjoys being demure and needlework. But it's almost entirely an act to snare the main lead, who has made no secret that that's the kind of girl he likes. When there are no boys around, Doe-Doe is a ruthless gangster-type who bullies the other girls so they won't move in on her territory. What makes her a touch more sympathetic is that she is stuck in a YouCantFightFate competition with the title character, rendering all her efforts fruitless from the start.

* Shinghi from ''Manhwa/ZippyZiggy'', especially at first. It's pretty much the entire point of his character. The same with his father.

** Ironically Ueno reveals in Chapter 50 that she perceives ''Shoko'' as this, believing she’s just using her [[DisabledLoveInterest disability and weakness to make Shoya fall for her]]. This is all bull of course, Ueno is just poorly justifying her fierce jealousy and hatred of Shoko due to the latter’s relationship with Shoya, whom Ueno loves.

* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'': Kabuto Yakushi. He usually presents himself as this harmless, bumbling oaf with NerdGlasses who showed up to help Naruto and his teammates on occasion but is, in fact, a sadistic ManipulativeBastard and a subordinate of the BigBad Orochimaru.
** Unsurprisingly, Orochimaru has shades of this as well. He has frequently lured others to his side, with promises of power and fair treatment. But in the end, they were nothing more than test subjects to him. Him and Kabuto learn to value life more the [[HeelFaceTurn hard way...eventually]].
* In ''Manga/NewGame'', Tsubame "Naru" Narumi sometimes comes off as this. After learning that her coworker, Nene, got her job largely due to having connections with her boss Umiko, Naru quickly becomes very harsh with Nene, accusing her of not taking her job seriously. When Umiko gets back and sees the two working in awkward silence, Naru pleasantly says that Nene's having some trouble, and Nene's shocked to see how quickly Naru's attitude changed.

* Sei Arisaka from ''Manga/HimechanNoRibon'' acts like a perfect gentleman towards everybody around him but Daichi seems to be the only one who realises he has an alternative motive.

* In ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'', Asuka puts up a "perfect good girl" act in front of the adults, but when they aren't around, she's a complete pain in the ass to kids of her same age. Asuka soon drops it when Misato encourages her to relax now that she isn't living with her foster family, this is a huge mistake as it only results in Asuka going full-blown Jerk and Bitch towards others.

* In ''Manga/ATimidWomanLongingForHerDeliveryGirl'', Aida is this. As an older woman working for Takase's company, she seems like a kind [[SenpaiKohai sempai]] to Takase, especially when she stands up for Takase when Kazama sexually harasses her. However, after Kazama sexually assaults Takase and gets fired, Aida badmouths Takase, wishing that she'd left instead, and says she only took Takase's side because it would look bad if one of her subordinates quit.

* [[spoiler:Saki]] from ''Manga/FamilyCompo''. At first, she seems like a YamatoNadeshiko but we quickly learn that's a cover-up since she's a GoldDigger and a ManipulativeBitch.

** Naoko Ueno is also this frequently as well as a cruel AlphaBitch. First, there’s her reintroduction where it seems like she’s a sweet person who's [[TookALevelInKindness turned over a new leaf from an elementary school days]] like Shoya, this falls flat when Tomohiro mistakes the letter she sent to Shoya as meant for him as Ueno immediately insults and rejects him. Worse still is at the theme park when Ueno acts all nice and apologetic around Shoko whom she cruelly bullied, but as soon Ueno is alone with poor Shoko she makes it clear how much she still despises her, for “splitting up“ her old friendship group and for [[ClingyJealousGirl taking Shoya away from her]].

* Captain Shears in the ''VideoGame/StarFox'' comic "Farewell, Beloved Falco" - Shears, a military officer on Titania, tells Fox that he needs help combating remnants of Andross's army who are planning a counterattack. [[spoiler: In fact, Shears is trying to re-build Andross and is trying to fool Fox into attacking Falco and his group.]]

** The sixth game has ObviouslyEvil {{cult}} leader Saika Kamishiro, a failed stage magician and DirtyOldMan presenting himself as a CoolOldGuy who uses his skills at manipulating people to trick them out of their fortunes and families, before attempting to do the same to ShrinkingViolet Kotorogi.

** [[spoiler:During the seventh game, [[TheDogWasTheMastermind Kotorogi is revealed to have been the real traitor all along]] as well as the one who arranged the death of Tenji's father. As soon as her true nature is revealed, she does a full 180 into a murderous, conniving deviant [[TheDragon working under the true mastermind]] and a {{yandere}} for Yuuichi who arranged all her DamselInDistress scenarios because she got off on watching him rescue her over and over.]]

* ''Anime/{{Trigun}}'' has Knives Millions the EvilTwin of AllLovingHero Vash the Stampede. Like his brother Knives on the surface seems likeable and upbeat but whenever the mask of benevolence drops Knives reveals himself as a sadistic monster who despises humanity and [[KickTheDog shunned and mocked his and Vash’s adoptive mother Rem]] as soon as he was rid of her. Unlike the manga, anime Knives has being acting this way since he was a kid and got three people killed while acting innocent before trying to commit genocide. He also acts friendly to Vash upon meeting him again but as soon Vash defies him becomes cruel and AxCrazy.

* Tomomi in ''Anime/LadiesVersusButlers'' definitely qualifies. While the end result is for the best, she usually grins in an evil way just to make her [[ChildhoodFriendRomance Unlucky Childhood Friend]] Akiharu and UnknownRival Sernia squirm for her satisfaction.

* In ''Manga/ATimidWomanLongingForHerDeliveryGirl'', Aida is this. As an older woman working for Takase's company, she seems like a kind [[SempaiKohai sempai]] to Takase, especially when she stands up for Takase when Kazama sexually harasses her. However, after Kazama sexually assaults Takase and gets fired, Aida badmouths Takase, wishing that she'd left instead, and says she only took Takase's side because it would look bad if one of her subordinates quit.

* In ''Literature/AccomplishmentsOfTheDukesDaughter'', Yuri Neuer was the heroine of the otome game the protagonist Iris played in her past life. At first glance, she is a dumb but kind and well-meaning sweetie with the ability to charm the boys around her. She frequently encourages her fiance Prince Edward to wastefully spend by courting her and gives terrible political advice. [[spoiler:And this is before it’s revealed that she’s a spy.]]

* ''LightNovel/{{Baccano}}'': Lebreau Fermet Viralsque. He appears to be a nice, calm, and loving figure. But his true nature is of a cruel sadist who tortured Czeslaw Meyer for a couple of centuries; he's the mastermind of the tragedies of the 1700 arc, killed [[spoiler:Monica, Huey's wife]], and is responsible for all the bad stuff that happened to the immortals.

* ''LightNovel/ClassroomOfTheElite'' has [[spoiler:Kikyo Kushida, who at first appears as a NiceGirl from the very beginning. However, it is revealed later on she's a resentful, selfish, and insane {{manipulative bitch}} whose friendly GenkiGirl persona is only a facade. When Ayanokouji finds out, she threatens to pull a FalseRapeAccusation on him if he doesn't keep her true personality a [[SecretKeeper secret]]. She's even worse in the original novel, where not only does she [[HateAtFirstSight hate Ayanokouji from the start]], but she tries everything in her power to get Suzune expelled for having some knowledge of her MysteriousPast, to the point where she even [[FaceHeelTurn conspires with]] Ryuuen from Class C to achieve her goal, only to also tell him that she would [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder get rid of him for seeing her dark side]].]]

* Izaya Orihara from ''LightNovel/{{Durarara}}''. Nice friendly guy. Smiles a lot. Says he loves people. Cheerful attitude. Convinces people to kill themselves. One of the main reasons why Izaya hates [[TooDumbToFool Shizuo]] is because Shizuo was able to see right through him the very moment they first met, despite being DumbMuscle. Hence, the HateAtFirstSight meeting. That's why whenever weird stuff starts happening in Ikebukuro, Shizuo immediately blames Izaya, stating that when stuff like that happens, 99.9999% of the time, it's Izaya's fault. Disregarding the shoddy statistics, he's more or less right.

* ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'':
** Ryoko Asakura is the friendly, polite, attractive, class representative who always has a kind word and a smile... until she tries to stab Kyon because she's bored and she thinks killing him will get Haruhi to do something interesting.
** Emiri Kimidori fits this as well, as she [[spoiler:doesn't give a damn when Nagato is made ill by contact with the Heavenly Canopy Domain. This causes Kyon to call her a "monster" like Asakura]]. Basically all the Data Overmind interfaces except Nagato.

* ''LightNovel/TheHeroLaughsWhileWalkingThePathOfVengeanceASecondTime'': Princess Alesia is great at pretending to care about her subjects and her parents, and having a friendly face. In reality, she's an utter monster who promotes brutal slavery throughout the land and is racist towards anything that isn't a "pure-blooded" native human.
** The entire revenge plot basically hinges on the fact that most characters in the series was this trope.

* In ''LightNovel/{{Kampfer}}'', [[spoiler:Kaede Sakura]] would qualify. [[spoiler:[[SarcasmMode Such a sweet girl, handing out stuffed animals to her closest friends and acquaintances]]. Through the early and mid portions of the anime, she's seemingly oblivious to any and all of the strange occurrences happening around her. It's only later that her cold calculating side comes to the forefront.]]

* ''LightNovel/LoveChunibyoAndOtherDelusions'' has Shinka Nibutani, who seems to be a sweet, friendly, responsible YamatoNadeshiko class rep... She's actually a (semi-)reformed Chuunibyou with a violent, selfish temper who's trying desperately to be 'normal'.

* ''LightNovel/TheRisingOfTheShieldHero'':
** Princess Malty Melromarc. Within a day, she accuses Naofumi [[FalseRapeAccusation of trying to rape her]], constantly playing on her good looks and innocent facade to get what she wants, [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder and always betraying her benefactors one after another]], no exceptions. Of course, all of this comes to a point where she's screwed up so many people that [[ZeroPercentApprovalRating nobody trusts her anymore]] [[spoiler: and her mother punishes her by changing her name to ''Bitch'' [[MeaningfulRename to match her real nature]].]]
** Itsuki Kawakami, the Hero of the Bow, pretends to be a HumbleHero when he is really a {{narcissist}}ic SmugSnake AttentionWhore who [[GloryHound is willing to endanger his own teammates]] by deliberately delaying attacking until they are in danger and then swoops in with a perfectly-timed save, invoking a BigDamnHeroes moment.

* ''LightNovel/SwordArtOnline'':
** Sugou Nobuyuki, the ArcVillain of the Fairy Dance arc; Asuna's father Shouzou viewed him as a friendly, bright prodigy, to the extent that he set up an ArrangedMarriage between him and Asuna and intended for him to inherit his company, RECT Inc. In reality, Sugou is a CorruptCorporateExecutive and a StalkerWithACrush towards Asuna who not only trapped 300 [=SAO=] survivors, including Asuna herself, in [=ALO=] in order to conduct inhumane MindControl experiments on them, but also planned to brainwash and rape Asuna and take control of the company. After Kirito defeats him, the sheep's clothing is flung off, and Sugou is arrested and incarcerated.
** Kyouji Shinkawa seems quite friendly and supportive of Shino and attempts to be there for her while she's trying to get over her past. [[spoiler:Then he reveals his motives to her, and attempts to rape her, along with trying to kill her almost entirely out of the blue after seeing how she seems to be more interested in Kirito than him. Not only that, but it turns out he was in on the Death Gun plot.]] This is potentially foreshadowed earlier in the arc. When Shino first starts to become more assertive in the real world thanks to Kirito's influence, he starts acting slightly creepy. Most people would be happy that their best friend is becoming more capable and seemingly better able to take care of themselves. Kyouji instead wraps her into a hug and begs her to stop being assertive and angry and go back to her normal calm self so that he can protect her.

* Ami from ''LightNovel/{{Toradora}}'', although, with CharacterDevelopment, she becomes more of a JerkWithAHeartOfGold in sheep's clothing, and eventually, just a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
