* Late in the film we find out that Mason Dixon is the ''undisputed'' champion. Not just a heavyweight champion of one of the big promotions, he's ''the'' heavyweight champion. And ''no boxer in the entire world can hold his own against him''. This also makes Rocky going the distance against him even more awesome.

* After Rocky starts to truly hurt Mason in the first round with a combination of head shots, Mason's trainer Marvin is the only one to give him a reality check: "Yeah, well he came to battle, okay?.. Listen to me! If there's any bone in your body he can break, he's gonna do it. Give the man a little respect!" Props to a corner-man who actually recognizes the gravity of the situation his boxer is in and respects Rocky for the legendary boxer he is.
