* Joe Rincon (Hector's father) becomes a {{Heroic Bystander}} when he takes down an approaching alien using a discarded M16 dropped by one of the protagonists. And he's had no military or firearm experience, he just picks it up and opens fire wildly. He dies, but it was awesome.

** Unfortunately, the fact that he can rattle off all of their serial numbers makes it ring false. There is absolutely no reason for him to even know their serial numbers. It isn’t any part of commanding troops to memorize or even know serial numbers (which are simply that person’s Social Security Number - the military just uses it as a serial number). The numbers are only used administratively. This comment comes from my experience as a Staff Sergeant in the USMC (which coincidentally is the same rank and branch as the character in the film). Of all the things I knew about the Marines serving under me, serial numbers weren’t one of them - there is just no reason to know it. Their name, rank, and MOS (what ‘job’ they have - rifleman, engineer, etc) are the only information you need to know.
** It's possible he took the time to do so anyways dwelling on their loss. Grief can cause some odd behavior.

* The entire final action scene, from Nantz's PreAssKickingOneLiner - "Let's show these bastards who they're fucking with", indeed - right up to the very end when they take down the drone controller and fight off the aliens protecting it]]. Perfect climax for the movie, in my opinion.
